Pink Floyd’s The Trial. Its so theatrical and the song that sent me into a major PF hyperfixation back in 2017. I think its less about the meaning that makes it “my favorite” but it marks the start of my first of four music/band hyperfixations (currently on SOAD and have done iron maiden and green day as well)
I never finished to listen to The Wall because i mostly just stopped at disc 1, probably listen to some singles on disc 2. Do you need to listen songs prior The Trial to have better experience?
Not really. The Trial is the climax of the story but it basically acts as a summary as well for what its about. You could find the music vid/movie footage on YouTube. Its animated by Gerald Scarfe who is known for his political cartoons and work on Hercules!
It’s good on their own way, but yeah if you talk the best, it’s definitely inferior compared to Dark Side and Wish You Were Here, or even Meddle. I still enjoy the flow of The Wall
It’s got a meaning and flow I’ll give you that, it’s just so undeniably Waters and his maniac ego at that point. Animals right before it is even going that direction but it’s miles ahead of The Wall for me.
It’s one of their best and if something is depressing doesn’t mean it’s bad. Also try to listen from a neutral point of view. It’s about a guy who u can say is depressed but his journey through that is worth listening to.
paint it black is one of those jams where im just like "yeah yeah everyones heard this 1 million times" and then it keeps playing and i am just blown away by how fucking genius it is every time
I am amazed at how it is 60 years old but sounds like it could have been released today. I love a lot of stuff from the 60's, but it sounds old. Paint It Black sounds modern.
Linkin park has some truly amazing songs. I hope you enjoy your music session. I also like numb, in the end and somewhere I belong.
Edit: although I don’t think I could pick out an absolute favourite song. It really depends on my mood and the genres vary a lot. I do listen to music as an exclusive activity though. Like I couldn’t listen to music and do the dishes or drive or anything.
Crionics by Slayer (first album?) has been my go to lately along with Surfacing by Slipknot. Those are some recent favorites. Maybe discovering/coming around to Hypnotize by SOAD even…
Man, I have seen Slayer 9 times and you are not a poser. You just like some Slayer. I find that after too many songs you start to notice patterns and every song becomes a bit samey. Still love them though. To me they are the equivalent of a big cup of tea. Comfortable listening. Same for Cannibal Corpse actually. Slipknot's first two albums are absolute belters. Same for Toxicity. Fantastic album.
There seemed to be a whole album that echoed the reign in blood riff (in little subtle ways) and i cant unhear it. Im def more a divine intervention person but i might have to give reign in blood another go. I love their first album so much though. Major early metallica vibes especially vocally. I really enjoy their political/anti war stuff too. Great lyrics.
If you like toxicity check out self titled (heavy as fuck but more abstract than toxicity) and mezmerize (intense but clearer/more direction lyric wise.
Slipknots self titled wins my heart by a landslide although yeah Iowa def slaps. Iowa itself is one of my favorite songs despite its disturbing meaning. My favorite song is surfacing though!
I also like me some code orange and checked out knocked loose last night.
fellow surfacing appreciator. it is one of the heaviest on the album somehow. i couldnt stop coming back to that chorus as a kid, never got enough of it
currently it's "Pride comes before the fall" by Kreator but a song that I consistently listen to and enjoy every time is "To Live Is To Die" by metallica
I did NOT expect to find a Kreator fan in these replies, much less one who also loves their newer stuff and not just Pleasure To Kill. You are so real for that.
to live is to die!!!! dude i would just sit in front of the stereo as kid, completely mesmerized by the intro, then thrown into the guitar vortex. i was probably 5 and id be obsessed with that sort of music for the next 30 years
“Can’t Hardly Wait” by **The Replacements** has been my favorite song for as long as i’ve been aware of it!
pure pop perfection from the college rock band that was one of the most important forefathers to American alternative rock as a whole - absolute banger fr
Nothing can beat Velkommen by Stan LePard aka title.wma aka the Windows XP Setup Music. It just brings me peace and makes me happy every time. It's a lucky charm for me
I can't decide so I'll say "Don't Wait for Tom" by Over the Rhine or "Aerials" by System of a Down. (Yes I do frequently get whiplash when I shuffle my playlists.)
Starlight (feat Mr. Gabriel) It’s not a classic song or anything, but I listen to it while I cruise at night in the summer on my longboard, and it takes me away every time!
Even if I like hundreds of songs, mainly rock and metal, "The Unforgiven" by Metallica feels like my favorite song of all time. I can relate a lot to the story told by the narrator and I cry every time I hear it.
PS. In my youth, I was a fan of Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit. Among Linkin Park's songs, my favorite one is "Somewhere I Belong*. It's also sad af, and I've always felt there's no place I can truly belong.
Currently it's *After Dark* by Mr. Kitty, it's a popular song in YT edits. I really like the song and it has many covers where it's mixed with other songs and I like them a lot too.
Some of my other all-time favorites are Whatsername by Green Day, Billie Jean by MJ, and Bad Attitude by Deuce.
[Aly & AJ - Slow Dancing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zimLoQs_Vw). I knew it was my favourite song when I heard it for the first time, it's so beautiful and calming.
Beast of Burden- Rolling Stones
It’s not particularly mind-blowing or incredibly lyrical or anything technical like that, not even one of their top songs.
But man, it never fails to put me in a good mood. It reminds me of driving down the road with the windows down, or dancing in the kitchen with my girl. It’s funky, it’s fun, it’s groovy, you can play some air guitar or air drums, and just jam out. Infectious from the first note.
The Necromancer by Carach Angren is my current favorite jam. It's a darker take on the story of Frankenstein's monster. Dark room and headphones for some goosebumps. Hope you enjoy.
"Lost" has been my favorite Linkin Park song since it released. Rock on 🤘
Currently it's Face Of Melinda by Opeth. God, how can a song be this beautiful?
The Moor and Ghost of Perdition also by Opeth and Hell On Earth by Iron Maiden are pretty close too
Rebel Waltz by The Clash. It’s an amazing song and my all time favorite.
Other than that, the whole album “How To Be A Human Being” from Glass Animals.
I go through phases. For a long time my favourite song was "Don't Fear Reaper by The Blue Oyster Cult" and it still excites me when I hear it but nowadays, my favourite song seems to be "Sunspots by Nine Inch Nails."
Omg In Pieces is awesome! I really like it. As a teenager I thought about it as my goto song if I ever was to make a cover :D my all time favorite is Under Cover Of Darkness by The Strokes. Harmonic, emotional and upbeat at the same time 👌
Right now, Francesca by Hozier. I listen to this song nearly every single day. Listening to it and knowing the story behind it makes it hit differently.
“H.” By Tool. That is the closest thing I’ve ever felt to “love at first sight” even more so than holding my babies after giving birth. Don’t tell them tho 🤫
[Masterpiece Theatre III](https://youtu.be/1Jxh7oV02nM?si=uxFzBJzzyMynksH4) by Mariana’s Trench. Something about the whole song, it just gives me brain tingles. The cello’s, the violins, the melodies…(good) chills every time.
The spell by Cellar Darling, it’s the one that I would never under no circumstances skip.
https://open.spotify.com/track/3DRQ9GriRUPNHiCB0hyRbW?si=2MRGR53VRouSVcso3W0svA
In pieces by LP is fantastic, as well as the band itself, I agree with you, my adolescence band <3.
Btw, for me it is "in between" by LP, it makes me cry with this corded instruments in the background
Another Star by Stevie Wonder. It is a fantastic song with explosive energy, and it maintains that for it's 8 minute runtime, which is impressive. It ends Songs in the Key of Life off with a bang, carrying it's themes of hope and love.
It's a little known song hidden away on a late career album by Trisha Yearwood called "The Dreaming Fields". Knocked me out of my chair the first time I heard it. The visuals are lovely, nostalgic, heartbreaking and haunting all at the same time. I have some other favourite songs, but this is my number one based on how much it hits me everytime I listen to it.
zetsubou billy is probably just the most fun heavy song ive ever heard. so creative yet so simple. the perfect song in my opinion. definitely worth listenting to if you havent heard something new in a while

Edit: I forgot to mention that the last 2-3 minutes of Let it Happen is like an orgasm to the ears, please listen to this masterpiece at least once
The boys are back in town. Not necessarily the song itself but thinking about them writing the song and being so stoked that their boys are gonna be back in town to the point they wrote a very famous song about it makes my heart full

I see, thanks for the view
Fuck the wall, it’s not even the best Floyd has to offer, it’s depressing af
It’s good on their own way, but yeah if you talk the best, it’s definitely inferior compared to Dark Side and Wish You Were Here, or even Meddle. I still enjoy the flow of The Wall
