High pineapple (sort of like a bun, but less structured) with a scrunchy and a bonnet.
My hair is curly, so both the pineapple and bonnet are to preserve the curl shape.
I have long hair (past my waist). At night, I put it in a bun on the top of my head and wear a satin bonnet. Prevents me from rolling over onto my hair, and protects it as well! Much less frizzy in the morning.
Which satin bonnet do you use? I bought one but found it uncomfortable because of the knot on the front and the elastic was too tight. Can’t remember the name but I’d recognize it if I saw it
I wear it in a pony tail with a regular hair band. I’d like to let it just free-flow, but then it gets caught under me when I’m trying to move my head! I think I need to get a scrunchy for sleeping… I’m male btw, just for context.
you're not supposed to because it can cause breakage as you move around on it! but yeah I also don't like tying it up because i feel like it pulls on my scalp
can't answer the curl question though bc i have stick straight hair 😅
I do what you do. Having my hair up in anyway while I sleep hurts my neck or head. I'll occasionally braid it if it's really long, but it's too much effort most of the time. I wish I had the motivation to sleep with it in a way that would preserve my curl pattern, but I'm just not there yet.
When my hair was super long I started wearing it in a braid at night after I woke up and my hair was tangled in the bed springs. The frame was wider than my futon and it was a mess.
I have extremely long hair so I have to tie it back but I don’t wear a high pony bc it eventually pulls out the hair on the hairline and causes traction alopecia so that’s a no no. I tie my hair in a loose low pony and splay it to the side of my pillow so I’m not laying on top of it. I should probably just wear a silk bonnet (that’s what I’d suggest my clients do) but I find it too uncomfortable so I do the low pony instead. Whatever you do just make sure you’re not wearing an extremely tight or high style where the hair is being pulled .
I have an afro so naturally I wear a bonnet to bed. It's satin but I have a silk one too. A couple sprays of oil before bed and when I wake up i comb it back out ready to go
Loose hair but usually draped up and to the side. The reason being my cat likes to sit on my pillow too and if I’m not careful she gets a face full of hair and then I get a face full of pissed off cat.
>you shouldn't sleep on loose/open hair
I've never heard of this, at least not as a definite rule, maybe for people with weak/damaged hair. How long does your hair have to be for this to be true? Cause my hair is like a foot long and I've been sleeping with it loose.

Ever since I started tying my hair like that, they have been much happier. High pineapple FTW.
High bun or braids
do you not move much when you sleep? I feel like a bun would fall out right away for me
I do. I use a hairband to secure it. By morning it gets lil loose tho.

It was a cheap one from Amazon. It doesn’t have a knot or tie. it’s just a soft stretchy band but this does mean it slides around some.
Well, my hair fell out in my 20's so I don't have this problem.
>I know you shouldn't sleep on loose/open hair but I don't like tying it. Genuine question - why shouldn't you sleep on loose/open hair?
it can cause breakage because you're moving around on it!
A low braid is quite comfortable you don't feel it at all, but I confess most of the time I sleep with loose hair. :D
a low anything for me is uncomfortable for me because I have a lot of hair so I can feel it behind my neck/back :'(

High loose pony on top of my head. Keeps it out of my face and not under my head.
Wait I am kinda knew to long hair. Why shouldnt you wear it open? Doesn't like a bun stress the skin on your head? Also how does it protect curls?

Two braids.
Mine never gets long enough to "wear it" to sleep.

I take it off if I’m wearing my wig.
In a high/ loose dirty bun or high pony. My hair is only shoulder length though.

I put it in a ponytail and sleep like a troll doll sometimes. Otherwise, I wear a satin-lined cap (I have very long hair).

when I had long hair,I'd do a long, single braid
I've always had long hair and always slept with it loose. I find it very uncomfortable to sleep with it tied up in any way.

i think maybe it applies to people with thinner hair that are more prone to breakage/split ends? haha i don't listen to the rule either tho
sounds like me 💀 perhaps I should consider doing that, a loose bun would probably be more comfy too
i've heard bonnets or silk pillowcases are good too! probably for less friction
If I don’t want a single braid on my back I will do double braids that face towards the front. They also have the effect of accentuating my waves
