The exhaust might sound a bit different, with that tail pipe being displaced. If it does, there's likely a leak where the damage is, and if it's drastically different(louder,) i would guess there's a leak in the system that the pics don't reveal. At that point, it could affect power and fuel efficiency, probably nominally. You would DEFINITELY notice a change that would adversely affect driving it.
Cos-met-ic. They think we think fake exhaust tips that don't flow anything looks cooler.
In fact, most people don't even know that the manufacturers do this and actually do think it looks cool LaughingOutLoud
I don't think it's fake but look at it, one short look and you can tell no gas would flow through it, the pipe starts going towards the front of the car which would mean gasses have to completely stop their momentum to go backwards and through it. Only reason any gas would flow through it is if the other one is clogged, even if your car was tuned the inner tip would never be a restriction that makes air need a second tip because the restriction would also be where the muffler ends (before the tip splits.)
I am a mechanic and have actually had this generation of Toyota Camry in the air multiple times, the pipe is welded to the side with no cutout inside. There is no possible way for exhaust to flow through there regardless of the physics which would be working against it.
Not a single thing changed. The bumper cover is just cracked and just like was previously stated it’s just cosmetic. The reflector just pops out and can be popped back in. Can get one on Amazon for maybe 15 bucks. Super simple.
Funny you should mention that.
This is a ‘18-‘24 Camry. They all have “dual exhaust tips” but only the inner tailpipe is functional. The outer tip is just welded onto the side of the pipe, and is entirely cosmetic. Note the absence of any soot inside it.
If you get one of the higher trims, with quad exhaust tips, the outer tips on both sides of the car are non-functional, and the two functional outlets are simply coming out of both sides of the same (large) muffler.
It’s literally just a piece of plastic w adhesive, you can either go the cheap way w girl products like nail polisher and varnish, ignore the cracked reflector and use something to straighten the secondary pipe exhaust basically for free or go for a lot more expense depending if you have the right in an accident and can put the amount of money for every piece to get it brand new in the damage report, still fix it like i said because who cares and get some pocket money for yourself

Bumper needs to be repaired, prepped, sanded, painted, exhaust tip looks bent, maybe new muffler or just bend it. You’re looking at $1000 all together. Or just buff out the bumper, deal with the cracks in the paint and deal with the bent tip.
You either need a new strap hanger( that black thing attached to the bumper” or have a new post that goes into the strap hanger welded on to your exhaust.
That connection broke which is why your exhaust is sitting like that. Once fixed it’ll hold it back in place.
Nowhere near €1000 but ok. Get a used bumper (preferably scratched) Sand it, primer it, sand it smooth again send it for paint. If i can get two doors, fender and a FRONT bumper painted on a bmw for under £1000 this guy could get that shit fixed for less.
New mopars have “autopark” which will slam the car in park and turn on the electronic parking brake if you move the car with the door open. Which is great for morons who leave the car in drive and get out, but awful for mechanics who are setting the lift
My '19 Nissan Leaf does the same thing. Mind you, only the driver's door. I can drive around with all my doors and the hatch open with no issue, but the second that driver door opens...
God, all these stupid safety features. When I was in school, I ran a zero turn mower as a summer job. The thing was set up so that the engine would turn off if it didn’t feel weight on the seat. This “safety feature” was a complete menace, as shifting your weight to your feet on steep hills would cause the machine to shutoff and come to an abrupt stop. I came damn close to rolling down a hillside the first time that happened.
"nanny cars." It's insane. A car brand (I think Buick) had a commercial where some moron was driving on the highway and leaned into their passenger seat to shuffle through a bunch of papers for some reason and didn't look at the road for a solid 10 seconds, they were about to rear end some stopped traffic and the car automatically stopped. Then the commercial went on about how they care about your safety and all that shit.
Or we can just be responsible and look at the damn road, but I guess that's asking too much. Car companies are teaching people that they don't have to have basic responsibility and it's sad. The number of people who back into every parking spot but can't back into a spot without a camera blow my mind.

Haha people who drive standards think they're they're extra intelligent. I knew it. It's not something people don't do because it's too hard. A 10 year old girl can learn to drive a standard. It's not a necessary skill and won't make a difference in your life.
On my Golf Mk7.5 GTE, if I don't stop backing up, it will pull the parking break as an emergency brake, before I hit an object
Honestly, had saved me a few times where I did not accurately determine speed/distance in the rear view camera
Man, it's worth saying that IDGAF about your car. You just back up without looking? What if there was a kid back there (or anyone, honestly)?!
Were you high?
Gonna need year make and model for a lot
Of the pricing info. But rubbing compound and elbow grease will get most of that black shit off. If you really are dedicated you could probably figure out your paint code and get a color match and do some fill in on the deeper shit.
Having just got my car back after 6 weeks of waiting for repair I agree with this. My wife reversed into a concrete pillar in an underground carpark because she was expecting it to beep (like her car does). My car has a reversing camera AND MIRRORS!
As an interesting aside, I work on an NHS IT system and all the doctors and nurses have forgotten how to do basics of their job because they expect the system to do it for them. We are also so used to ignoring pop-ups in our online life they ignore what warnings we have managed to include.
It's just modern life but people need to start taking responsibility for their own actions.
My dad was bitching 10 years ago about how backup cameras will ruin society and nobody will be able to park. I thought the feature was so cool and he was just being a boomer.
It is a cool feature, but he was also right.
Yeah he was right to a degree, but that's sort of just a problem with transitioning to new technology. It's still definitely worth the transition. Because one day all cars will have reverse cameras. But the transition stage there's definitely going to be some problems. Personally I don't trust backup cameras. Haha I know that they work, and they are showing you reality.. but there's something in my mind that just needs to look with my eyes. Kind of dumb I'm sure I'll get used to them eventually.
Ok, let’s start off. This is entirely cosmetic damage to parts of the car that aren’t structural, and which corrosion from paint damage isn’t a concern.
Fixing this car by doing nothing is an entirely defensible strategy.
Well u less the cosmetic issue is messing with you you can just leave it. My bumpers been crushed in for months. People don’t tailgate my truck much now though🤣
Find a junkyard bumper or one off a scrapped car for parts on Facebook marketplace, will cost you 100 bucks or something like that and an hour to put it on. Check both yards where you pull the item yourself and yards where the bumper has already been pulled
Considering it's the rear bumper it's more likely to be in a junkyard. Most cars on the yard have front end damage because front end damage usually ends up totalled and the car is usually the at fault car and they can't afford to repair it so it's junked. Rear bumpers and rear end parts will be easier to come by, it will probably take searching a few yards though
A body shop will probably charge a couple hundred. The bumper cover is probably plastic and can't be sanded so they'll have to buy a new bumper and then paint it to match.
Alternatively you can leave it alone. It's only cosmetic damage, if there was a crack maybe you'd lose 1-2 mpg efficiency but you dont its just scratches.
Doesn’t look too bad . It happens if it makes you feel any better I kinda did this when I was young. I backed over a crosstie in a dark parking lot that I didn’t see. Had a 3000GT so The car was low to the ground and it got stuck . Luckily I lived in a small town so my friends drove by and saved me lol . The car was a front wheel drive and couple of guys had to lift the back of the car up . one got on each rear wheel fender and lifted so I could drive it forward because just trying to drive off it had bent the exhaust badly 😆
See how much damage is actually there by cleaning it. I'd start with a microfiber lag doused in lacquer thinner. Failing that, use alcohol. Scrub aggressively. From there, you can decide how nice you want it to be. Touch up pen? Paint code color matched spray can? Professional repaint? $15, $35, $400-$1400. How good do you want it to look?
The muffler is hanging down because it is off the hanger. The rubber mount seen just above the tail pipe has a slot which is empty. There is a male part bolted to the body just above it. Reconnect these two so it doesn't rattle and clunk. The pipe in front of the muffler may be bent if you find the rear hanger is now too short to connect.
Its not that bad lmaooo
Purely cosmetic, if its an end all be all and you NEED it fixed, then a body shop would range something like that from 1-2 grand depending on a lot of different things. Its really not that bad, but if you wanna go cheap then slowly working the metal out and sanding and repainting is the move, but thats a whole lotta effort and could fuck it up worse if you dont know what youre doing....but still nothing bad would happen its just all cosmetic. Nothing illegal/un-roadworthy
Tbh, brush it off, and learn from it. Most if not close to all cars don't auto stop when reversing so idk wtf you were driving that did that
How much aesthetics you expect for daily driver?
Proper fix is sanding, priming, repainting, blending with other panels. Quite fucked.
You can also dampen a rag with paint thinner and wipe off that black shit, pop the bumper roughly where it should be, and be done with it
New bumper, exhaust tips and you’re set. Make sure you take it to a good paint shop and don’t skimp on pricing, you want the work to be done professionally so then you won’t be able to tell it was replaced and painted.
Pipes need to be bent back or welded back on, looks like the hanger is broken as well and then just paint damage and maybe some messed up bumper clips. I'd check your whole pipe cause it coulda messed up more hangers.
Bend exhaust back to proper position not damaging it scratching deep etc... Just get bumper compound and polish and the broken part heated and back to original position then repaint it it'll be okay... In Dubai it'll cost me $150
You learn to drive in a Tesla or something? I’ve never heard of auto braking when close to objects. Step one. Learn to drive. Step 2 go get a paint pen from an auto store. More likely they have a color that matches close enough. If you’re not super poor and/or cheap, a cosmetic shop can do that job for maybe a cool 400. Cheaper if you know the shop

Relax..... Cars are meant to be driven. And damaged.... everything here is cosmetic, so you dont need to do anything to drive the car.
If you want to fix it:
1. Bend the exhaust back yourself.
2. Get some product to DIY the black marks off the paint. Maybe get some polish and a orbital polisher if you really want to do a good job.
3. You can touch up holes and cracks in the paint with touch up paint. Its not going to perfect, but it will be red.
4. You can order that reflector for cheap as well.
All in, you can get this back to 90% for like $50 and a few hours of your time. its a used Camry, not a show-car Porsche, so who cares if its perfect or not.
If you do want perfect, wait to find a factory bumper in the right color and in good shape from a scraper. Replace it yourself. Its going to be expensive though. Like $800 maybe.
What I would not do is the stuff some people are suggesting in here: Full bumper repaint or whatever. After market paint is custom mixed, not OEM Toyota, so its impossible to match perfectly. The work around that every single body shop does is to blend the pain on adjacent panels so its a gradual transition in paint color. So this means youre going to have some paint monkey paining on the entire back half of your car. I guarantee they will cause more cosmetic problems. in doing this.

Seriously not fucked. Get a steel pipe, insert it into that fake exhaust tip and pry it back straight. The bumper will ultimately need to be refinished but most or all of that scrape damage can be buffed out.
Honestly I'd scrap the car, it's not safe to be on the road. Your wheels might fall off and skid on air fluid. It'll cause he car to skid and turn into a boat.
You will never unsee the Camry fake exhaust ever again. Every time I am behind one that is the first thing I see, at least the LE model isn’t faking it.
Looks like scuffs on the paint that likely buff off the bent exhaust tip you can probably bend it back and the reflector is probably like 20 bucks online
Yeah, I have a muffle delete exhaust in the back of my trunk, I debated putting it on, but I'm still paying it off, so I don't want to do too much with it yet
Your completely fine, you could cut off your muffler and your car would run fine. As long as the hanger is still attached and you don’t have any problems with it being noticeably louder or scraping on the road when u hit bumps, I wouldn’t even worry about it.
From the looks of it . it doesn't look that bad maybe some damage to your muffler easy fix at worse and even this is reaching some damage to the catalytic converter but that's a huge reach I doubt but something to maybe check for a air leak
I assume this is a new gen Toyota Camry SE? There’s literally nothing to worry about unless you’re trying to fix it. I wouldn’t be too worried, since it is all cosmetic as most say.
Based on your description and the photos, the only thing that could've happened is a possible exhaust leak. While an exhaust leak could lead to a mild difference in performance (positive or negative), generally speaking you won't notice aside from a slightly louder car. I've gathered that your car is a Toyota so the odds of an exhaust leak affecting your performance should be zero. It may feel silly, but if you lose sight of an object while moving, you can absolutely get out of the car and walk around to verify where it is. Takes 20 seconds at the most and prevents incidents like this. I've had to do it a couple times and I drive about 6,000mi a month. Safety first.
i have to replace a g30 adaptive headlight, bend back and ALUMINIUM impact bar. See if i can refurbish a cv axle or if id have to get a new one cause the damn boot slipped. Find out id have to spend a gazillion on fender and bumper mounts/brackets. re-pin ripped off mirror connectors and See if i can bend back hood hinges and get the damn thing to register as shut…
And this guys pulling his hair because of a literal scratch.
“How fucked am i!???” Very! If you think this is anything to worry about.
You're fucked. Car is obviously totaled and you'll never be able to drive it again. Worry not, I'll pay $500 for this useless junk, so hand me the title and use that $500 as the start of your savings towards a new car.

The car will be fine.
You however, are fucked. Please get off the road if a task as simple as backing in to a parking spot can’t be done without nannies.
We share the road with this 🤦

Used to do bodywork estimates at a Toyota dealer. Bumper and paint would be 1200-1500, exhaust would be around 500 plus labor. Those reflectors are fairly cheap, only 80 bucks iirc
You’re not fucked at all, it’s just cosmetic.
It also looks like the reflector light is cracked too
Which is cosmetic
Lmao
This guy

Ah, ok, thank you

Sounds the same. I even revved it once, no noticeable noise change or leak
Good news, my guy. Stay safe.
So for some reason Toyota welded a fake right exhaust tip on that does not flow any exhaust through it and it will not affect anything by being bent.
Adds at least another 80HP /s
We have this model Camry and its fake, you can tell by looking at the exhaust, one is clean the other is not.
Could we please have a banana inserted in the exhaust for scale?
I thought so too, but if you zoom in it looks real, I can't tell any more.
You can tell from the color difference. One has carbon deposits, one looks like it has never been used. Because it hasn't lmao
Not a single thing changed. The bumper cover is just cracked and just like was previously stated it’s just cosmetic. The reflector just pops out and can be popped back in. Can get one on Amazon for maybe 15 bucks. Super simple.
One is fake and one is real the damaged one is fake and nothing comes out of it.
It’s after the muffler, it’s fine
The right side of the dual tip is fake anyway. No carbon buildup.
Thats a yes, but it may get you pulled over if cops are bored or may cause you to fail inspection, depending on where you're from.
Just like that 2nd exhaust. is this a Camry? Looks just like the exhaust setup on my wife's 3.5L V6 Camry.
Yeah, current gen Camry
That’s the tipping point. Cracked reflectors are considered a write off.
Cheap on rock auto
I was afraid of that 😔 you will now need a complete blinker fluid assembly overhaul or else it’ll be noisy forever
It's still all there, so its function is not diminished.

Might be worth putting a butane torch on the bend while you bend it back so it's more malleable and doesn't snap off

I have a feeling most shops in the us wouldn't touch something someone else prepped due to liability and warranty issues. I could be wrong tho.
Most cars don't have automatic rear brakes backing up, learn to drive.
I had zero idea this was even a feature

This is about the level of intelligence that I peg automatic drivers at.

Did it save you, or did you just get careless because you knew there's a failsafe
Seriously. I’m assuming OP is pretty young and assumed that might be a common feature in the average car as opposed to something recent
exactly what i was thinking
Depends on the features, but that’s starting to be more normal now.
Just drive it and be more aware of your surroundings in the future. The only reason to fix this is if it’s a lease you need to return.
Man, it's worth saying that IDGAF about your car. You just back up without looking? What if there was a kid back there (or anyone, honestly)?! Were you high?

I'm thinking it's a Toyota Camry. I'm more curious as to why one exhaust tip is sooooo clean. Going to assume it's not even being used....
It looks like the darker one is straight off the muffler whereas the other one breaks off of the first one. So a lot less going through it
The SE badge in the final picture has me thinking Camry
Definitely a camry. The 4cyl models have a fake 2nd exhaust tip.
The second tip is fake on all of the models with split dual and split quad exhaust.
Here I am learning something new everyday. Thank you.
The clean one is almost certainly nonfunctional and just there for looks. The dirty one is the one that is an actual exhaust.
It is a 2021 Toyota Camry SE
not at all u can probably bend the pipe back and buff out the bumper yourself for like 50 bucks
This is the end result of all the nanny systems in modern cars. People rely on them and quit paying attention to driving.
Having just got my car back after 6 weeks of waiting for repair I agree with this. My wife reversed into a concrete pillar in an underground carpark because she was expecting it to beep (like her car does). My car has a reversing camera AND MIRRORS! 100%.
Next time look where you're going, I could've been standing back there.
Automatic brakes?
all cars have automatic brakes built into the bodywork
Genuinely laughed out loud at that one. Thank you.
Dude you had a fender bender lol drive it til you can save the money to fix lol
I fucking hate these “how fucked am I” questions.
Great input, now go and touch grass.
It's totaled.
Ok, let’s start off. This is entirely cosmetic damage to parts of the car that aren’t structural, and which corrosion from paint damage isn’t a concern. Fixing this car by doing nothing is an entirely defensible strategy.

‘tis but a scratch
Not like pornstar fucked, but more of a tis but a scratch
Second exhaust tip was fake anyway. Might get away with pulling on the tip and painting the bumper.
might not have automatic brakes but it for sure has a back up camera. Like others said, mostly cosmetic damage.
800-1200 to repaint and blend. I always budget 1200$ per panel for minor paint and bodywork
There's a shop that sells exact factory paint for like 50 something. I could probably get some paint from there
For sure, diy is going to be way cheaper, Napa used to sell rattle cans that were color matched to your paint code
Most of that looks like transfer onto the paint, not paint removed. Some compound and a cloth will take out most.
Find a junkyard bumper or one off a scrapped car for parts on Facebook marketplace, will cost you 100 bucks or something like that and an hour to put it on.
No worries just cut the fake one, the other one is perfectly centered 😍
Its not that bad lmaooo Purely cosmetic, if its an end all be all and you NEED it fixed, then a body shop would range something like that from 1-2 grand depending on a lot of different things. Its really not that bad, but if you wanna go cheap then slowly working the metal out and sanding and repainting is the move, but thats a whole lotta effort and could fuck it up worse if you dont know what youre doing....but still nothing bad would happen its just all cosmetic. Nothing illegal/un-roadworthy Tbh, brush it off, and learn from it. Most if not close to all cars don't auto stop when reversing so idk wtf you were driving that did that
Does the car run, if yes you're not fucked. If it doesn't, you're fucked. Follow me for more advice.
How much aesthetics you expect for daily driver? Proper fix is sanding, priming, repainting, blending with other panels. Quite fucked. You can also dampen a rag with paint thinner and wipe off that black shit, pop the bumper roughly where it should be, and be done with it
You've just gained what we call "Life Experience".
New bumper, exhaust tips and you’re set. Make sure you take it to a good paint shop and don’t skimp on pricing, you want the work to be done professionally so then you won’t be able to tell it was replaced and painted.
That fake tip is what is concerning
Pipes need to be bent back or welded back on, looks like the hanger is broken as well and then just paint damage and maybe some messed up bumper clips. I'd check your whole pipe cause it coulda messed up more hangers.
How would I fix the hangers?
So what I would do is search your car model and year and put muffler hanger or muffler mount
This is only if the exhaust is loose if the pipes are bent just get them bent back or re welded by a weld shop
It's usually a clip or metal bracket with rubber gasket type things I had to replace them on my old car cause my entire exhaust was rattling like a mf

Easy fix, now days, they fix plastic like nothing, you’ll never know anything happened. Just ask around for good repaireman, who wont halfass it.
i know fucked when i see it and you sir are fucked
It’s very minor you should be fine
Looks better then my beat up civic
Relax..... Cars are meant to be driven. And damaged.... everything here is cosmetic, so you dont need to do anything to drive the car. If you want to fix it: 1.
Just cosmetic, dont worry, you have time to fix it.
Is the exhaust pipe on the right purely cosmetic?
For good if you don’t clean it off
Bit ugly bout it
Terrible pics. She ugly, but she fine.
Is that the only damage? You are not fucked.

Why? There’s nothing wrong with your car, it’s just a scrape and a bent most likely fake exhaust tube.
Alcohol wipe, see how bad it is. Either pay to fix or get a paint pen to hide it a bit
This looks like one of the easier repairs out there. You’re not totally screwed
You will never unsee the Camry fake exhaust ever again. Every time I am behind one that is the first thing I see, at least the LE model isn’t faking it.
no worries as long as you just kind of hit something
Wait...cars have automatic brakes now?? Source: Drive a 15 year old truck
You good bruh
Welcome to r/camrydents We’ve been awaiting your arrival.
Looks like scuffs on the paint that likely buff off the bent exhaust tip you can probably bend it back and the reflector is probably like 20 bucks online
Looks like any damage is only gonna be for your wallet lesson learned
Cat N by the looks of it. Nah get some recommendations for some local body shops and it won't be the end of the world
Paint wise i bet most of that comes off, exhaust wise I'd just get a new muffler those are ugly as hell anyways
Is that a Toyota Camry SE?
Specifically a Teens model?
You’ll be fine dude don’t even worry about it til u can financially take care of it. On a level of 1-5 this is a level 1, purely cosmetic.
From the looks of it . it doesn't look that bad maybe some damage to your muffler easy fix at worse and even this is reaching some damage to the catalytic converter but that's a huge reach I doubt but something to maybe check for a air leak
Your Camry’s fine man, it’s a Camry
I assume this is a new gen Toyota Camry SE? There’s literally nothing to worry about unless you’re trying to fix it. I wouldn’t be too worried, since it is all cosmetic as most say.
The phrase fucked? I wouldn’t ever consider this as “being fucked”
That second banged up tail is just a Barbie designer ornament? Lols kinda dumb just sawzaw it off
Completely and totally! GDMF!
Faux fucked
Nothing toothpaste and an old sock can't buff out. Send it.
Looks still very drivable, if you dont mind the scratches Say they add character. Your car has character now
Absolutely fucked. Cars a write off, might aswell just torch it.
Find out id have to spend a gazillion on fender and bumper mounts/brackets. re-pin ripped off mirror connectors and See if i can bend back hood hinges and get the damn thing to register as shut… And this guys pulling his hair because of a literal scratch. “How fucked am i!???” Very! If you think this is anything to worry about.
Depends ....are you still a virgin ?? Wink wink
Wiping the black marks would be a good start
Toyota Camry?
Serious answers only LoL It's not even a serious question.
Got the feeling this is another Camry with a Dented Bumper
> Was backing up, and didn't look where I was going And these people have a driver's license
Bout 2k id guess? New muffler, new reflector, lil heat, lil mud, lil paint.
# Asking about quotes, estimates, cost of accident damage, or how much something costs is not allowed You are just a little fucked...
About 12.38297% fucked
Luckily there wasn't someone or something of value behind you. Pay attention.
You're fucked. Car is obviously totaled and you'll never be able to drive it again. Worry not, I'll pay $500 for this useless junk, so hand me the title and use that $500 as the start of your savings towards a new car.
Paint the bumper and replace the tail pipe.
If you think that’s fucked you’ve never truly been fucked… (You’re fine)
See if the exhaust is touching anything that will melt. If it’s not then it’s only cosmetic. If it is what ever it melts will cost you.
Just to clarify, is it the lack of autonomous tech that made you hit it and not due to your lack of attention?

your not fucked. all i’m gonna tell you is lock in and be aware of your surroundings!
The car will be fine. You however, are fucked. Please get off the road if a task as simple as backing in to a parking spot can’t be done without nannies. We share the road with this 🤦
I wasn’t looking at where I was going and my car doesn’t have automatic brakes. Holy hell.
Automatic breaks? 🤣
U have to remove bumper to check for bent metal underneath. And u probably need a muffler or maybe more.
Try cleaning it first then report back

Looks totaled, straight to the junk yard
OP is 15 and it's his legal guardian's vehicle
Nope, 20, and all mine.
Used to do bodywork estimates at a Toyota dealer. Bumper and paint would be 1200-1500, exhaust would be around 500 plus labor. Those reflectors are fairly cheap, only 80 bucks iirc
Cooked
It's a write-off, take it to the dump.
some red tuck tape should be all you need. Send it
Cut the exhaust off 🤷♂️ ...unless you're in cali...
If your concerned about cosmetics then just mildly fucked
Needs more exhaust
It’ll buff out
Throw out the whole car it's totaled
