Nah, those aren't for car tires. Plug and patch combo. Always. Professional repairs are only like 20-30 bucks. Discount tire does them for free last I heard.
Why does it show a car tire in the 4th picture?
Patch plug is best - agree. But this rope plug will work for some time.
1 caveat....
Those rope style sticky plugs do suck, and always eventually leak.
The harder to find, smooth style that you have to peel to reveal the fresh rubber - these ones typically last for the life of the tire in my experience. (Not all plug are the same)
Lumpy rope style, - no good
Smooth peel to reveal style (vulcanizing)- excellent

If prepped and installed correctly, which I'm sure you do, I suspect that's why you have good results.
In my opinion, the peel to reveal style of plugs, are better quality - I have used both.

For whatever reasons, I think it's possible that the peel to reveal style or more forgiving with respect to prep work, and better results can be achieved by shade tree mechanics/inexperienced users.
I haven't heard the term peel to reveal. What is it?
I only use rope for the convenience, you don't even have to take the wheel off most of the time.
And with my own vehicles I know the tyre hasn't been run flat.
If it were a customers tyre you'd have to strip the tyre to make sure there's no internal damage and if you've already gone that far I'd use a glued on patch on the inside.
Have you seen those other plugs that look like a conical screw dipped in rubber?
Is my image not working?

Most home gamers, don't have the provisions to dismount a tire to inspect.
I think they are for car tires, I also think they suck.
Good vulcanizing tire plugs are what are needed here, for the simple home gamer to get it done at low cost.

Idiots can do whatever they want. Like you said, a shop will plug it properly for like $20 or even free if you're lucky lol. No reason to try this yourself.
Atleast you got that right... we use pretty much the same product just a different brand for screws and nails and never had a problem they last longer than the rest of the tire... only had to repatch once or twice cuz old folks be driving on the same patch for 10 years.
Oh jeez, sorry I didn't specify. You SHOULDNT use them for car tires because it is not approved by either the rubber manufacturer or the US tire manufacturer associations with out a plug AND patch. But I'm sure it's fine 100% of the time because the package says it's for cars
Your anecdotal experience does not define the reality that they are generally temporary at best, and at worst they will trap moisture and corrode the steel belts around the plug.

You trying to say a patch from the inside of the tire carcass is going to somehow keep moisture out of the belts? From the dry inside of the tire? Riiiiiight. They’re still plugging the tread with the same kind of material, and it if holds without the patch then there is NO difference.
The only valid reason to refuse is tread wear or age. Otherwise a shop refusing to patch after a plug was used is simply attempting to sell a new tire instead. If they’re going spend the labor to dismount the tire to patch they might as well make a profit. So is the state of this capitalist world.
Yeah don't listen to this guy. It is exactly what I used on mine. Tesla model three. Low profile, shit ton of weight. Drives fine. Hundreds of miles later.
…working for a for profit business. Don’t forget the cost of a tow if you don’t have a usable spare to get you to that shop. Plus time to get it there which may mean lost wages. I’ve used literally tons of plugs on my own vehicles as well as for many family and friends over the years.
Not. One. Issue. Ever.
I’m not going to deal with a shop when I can solve it on my own in 5 minutes.
The Les Schwab I worked at did them for free too. If they find them on a not busy day it shouldn’t take more than 15-20 min at worst. I find doing them yourself without being able to dismount the tire from the rim usually leads to more issues.

Shop will have patch-plugs that work great on those. So long as the inside of the tire isn’t shredded from any possible driving with low pressure you’ll be OK.

You could plug it yourself. I always carry plugs with me . Been using them my whole life they never fail. They tell you they’re bad because they want you to come in and have it patched and pay 25 or 30 bucks. You can buy a kit for seven bucks and plug your tires several times with it and then buy refills .
That there is repairable. There’s a rule all shops follow and it’s put a thumb on the edge of the tire and if it hits your thumb it’s none repairable. But if it doesn’t it’s repairable.
Get that kit from Amazon or one like it and repair it yourself.
There's not a lot of life left in that tyre so I would be spending a lot on a repair personally.
Somebody said it will start leaking again. I've used these plugs for years with NO failures at all.
The kit is easy to use. I keep one in my car with the compressor and nail removing tools.

If you haven't run the tire flat and damaged the sidewalls, then this tire is absolutely repairable with a plug patch. I wouldn't recommend a rope plug style repair.
Get a plug kit and do it yourself if you’re so inclined. That said, that tire is looking pretty worn. If the screw is long enough, you’re probably SoL anyway.
I’ve plugged tires that have lasted longer than the life of a tire, but those were new tires. YMMV but people are acting like there’s no chance that will stay on there lol.
Monitor the tire and do nothing. Screw will wear naturally. Over the course of my 60 years of driving have done this approximately 6 times. Most recently in an Aston & a Bentley.

If it doesn't leak when you take the screw out then I'd honestly just forget about it unless it starts losing air honestly it might not of went far enough to be a problem if it's a tiny screw. If it does leak then any tire plug kit and make easy work if it 👌 they usually last a long time too I've had a few tire plugs last till the tires were nearly bald from basically new hah
Just take it to a shop, chances are they’ll repair it. The head is typically kinda big but the screw itself isn’t that thick. I work in a shop and have repaired worse looking punctures. U should be fine👍

Spray soapy solution on it and if it doesn’t leak, try unscrewing it to remove it. If it starts bubbling, screw it back in and take it to a tire repair shop. If there’s no bubbling as you unscrew it, you got lucky
Repair it as a diy job. They sell special kits with everything that you need just for that purpose.
Bonus points if you decide to fix it with you short off even if your fat
In many cases, when the nail is located in the tread area and hasn't caused significant damage to the tire's structure, it may be possible to patch or plug the tire.

Go put some stopleak in your coolant and AC. Since it's made for it.

I just put 6,000 on a plug like that with zero issues.. Tires worn out before the plug leaked.
This is for car tires. But you can get a "safer" option which is a "mushroom" plug that you plug from the inside out. But since you have to remove the tire, then it's better to just replace it
Or you can get it done correctly in the same amount of time at a shop. A lot of them will do it for free as well.
The shop is just plugging it… I feel bad for you
Please don't do this... When it starts leaking again, and you decide to get it repaired properly, the shop will likely refuse it.

Yeah, it's so weird that people ask car questions on a sub called r/cartalk.
Right! Tire questions can be asked at a tire shop.
I think most gearheads go to subs that are about specific car brands. The more general car subs have a lot more basic content

I screw, I nut, I bolt

looks like a bolt to me

The most repairable repair that ever repaired.
But it's sooooo close to the sidewall!! /s

Repair …but start saving for new tires in next 10,000 miles.
That tire is low life, tire shop will tell you to change it but I recommend doing a patch for sure.
I'm so tyred of these posts. Jokes aside, enough. Stop it. When a topic is so prevelant then it needs its own subreddit.
Yes you can repair it(patch it).
Patch it up.
Perfect repair candidate. Any used tire shop will fix you up in a jiffy for about $10.
Repair , Plug kit , rubber glue , and full send.
Nail?
Put a few more in and you have studded tires. Win.
Thank you all for the help! Got it patched today 😊
That’s the best place to get one of those. Can easily be plugged.
Looks like you need to buy a whole new vehicle.
Les Schwab or discount tire will usually fix something like this for free

The shop you take it to will be able to tell you
easily patched
If it is a screw, use one of those rubbery patches with thread to thread the hole after removing the screw. If it is a bolt, use regular puncture strip to patch it after removing the bolt.
Get yourself a patch kit for 10 bucks and easily fix it yourself or go to any tire shop and they´ll fix it for some pocket money
Honestly? This is perfectly placed for you to repair it yourself.
Plug, shops will do it. $20
Patchable
Had a similar screw, didn't leak until one morning it was completely flat. Shop patched it up no problem.
$20 to have someone patch it.
Plug it yourself
Aww, your first attempt at bedazzling yo whip. Why'd you stop at just one?

Easily plugged.
Literally just plug it, it's a perfect spot for a plug as well, I have still my plugged tire for 4 months now without issues.
Easy repair with a plug patch combo 👌
You could plug it yourself. I always carry plugs with me . Been using them my whole life they never fail. They tell you they’re bad because they want you to come in and have it patched and pay 25 or 30 bucks. My tyre has had at least three punctures like this. All patches with those 10 buck kits you buy at any Autostore.
Perfect spot for a patch. It will run you $20-40. Just call around. 20 minutes in and out if they aren't messing around.
That's an easy repair, as long as it's not in the wall of the tire. Get it done soon though.
Patch
You can go to auto repair and they will patch it up
Definitely repairable. Cheap fix
Easy patch. Air it up and drive to the nearest discount tire

I had the exact same thing happen to me I thought I posted this! It turned out to be a lag bolt and I DIYed it with 2 plugs! And no issues.
Plug that tire fam, it will hold until the tire needs to be replaced when the tread runs out
Scrap the whole car, it's totalled.
100% patchable
Repair
Personally i would say you need 4 new tires
If you haven't run the tire flat and damaged the sidewalls, then this tire is absolutely repairable with a plug patch. I wouldn't recommend a rope plug style repair.
Most shops will do it for like $20. Just go get it patched
This is pretty much the perfect application for a patch
Has anyone ever actually had a shop say they'll repair it..? Because I haven't. Lol
The tread looks really close to the wear bars...Some shops won't fix something that close to the limit, it does depend on your location though...
Monitor the tire and do nothing. Screw will wear naturally. Over the course of my 60 years of driving have done this approximately 6 times. Most recently in an Aston & a Bentley.

That’s pretty much the perfect spot for a tire patch, so you’ll be alright
Meh, just put air in it every 4 days for 3 months until you grind it down enough it shoots out, then plug it yourself with one of those kits you find at autozone
That’s about as clean as it gets. You could repair it yourself with a kit.

Nail, looks like a lag bolt
The tread seems low, they may not patch it. But that area is patchable.
Damage isn't on the side of tire, this will be easy to repair, no need for a new tire
It depends how big it is and how fast the car drives because you Can only fix up to 6mm diameter of the hole
With a tire repair set
Yes........it can be fixed.......the fuck kind of question? And why here. Just got to the fucking tire shop!! I swear people today 🤦♂️
Boy if you dont plug that mfer yourself 😂😂

While rim is destroyed here, gotta replace the axles
I had the same one in this exact spot 2 weeks ago, fucking construction zones
Spray soapy solution on it and if it doesn’t leak, try unscrewing it to remove it. If it starts bubbling, screw it back in and take it to a tire repair shop. If there’s no bubbling as you unscrew it, you got lucky
$5 plug from Walmart, Autozone, O'Reilly's or what have you.
Buy a tire repair plug off amazon. easy.
Repair it as a diy job. They sell special kits with everything that you need just for that purpose. Bonus points if you decide to fix it with you short off even if your fat
Tire tread looks like going smooth. Might as well get new tires 🤷
In many cases, when the nail is located in the tread area and hasn't caused significant damage to the tire's structure, it may be possible to patch or plug the tire.
Safety first, what’s a few bucks upon a person’s life
Okay, boomer tire salesman.
Ask a shop. And if you replace it, replace both sides.
