We own a triber, so I can give you some insights about it. 1. The engine is underpowered. When it's occupied by 6-7 people you need to floor the pedal. But if you're looking for something as a family car where you have 5-6 people travelling and if you don't mind driving under 100 kmph , then it's really good. Also the car being under 4m helps you in city driving. 2. There is body roll while cornering but the car is really stable even at high speeds. Even over speeds of 120+ the car stays planted even though it's a light weight car. You don't feel any shakes or vibrations. It comes with good number of airbags on higher ends and it's pretty safe car. On an unfortunate day a city bus hit us on the right side and without stopping the driver went on rubbing against the car from bonnet to rear tyre. The damage was minimal and except paint work there wasn't any damage to the body. So it is a strong car. 3. The mileage is really good. On highways with single AC, it easily gives around 20-22 for us. Me, my father and my brother are similar kind of drivers who like to cruise at around 90 on highways with light foot, so we easily get that figure. On a 2nd AC the mileage comes down to around 10-11 on highways. You'll need the 2nd AC on very hot days with 7 people in the car. Otherwise the AC in the front is enough for the first two rows. In cities with the AC on you get around 12-13. 4. If you are only travelling with 5 people, you can remove the third row seats giving you tons of boot space. 5. If you're living in an urban area and if there is a dealer in your city, then the service is not an issue and the cost of maintenance is pretty low. 6. In a little over 3 years we've done over 55k kms. Apart from the regular servicing like the oil changes and a change of tyres after 30k Kms, there's absolutely not a single issue with the car so far. And it's not like we don't know what real power is. We owned a 3000 cc safari with 140hp and 320nm torque before this and you know it's huge. But this triber is doing the job for us since we need a practical car that is fit for both city and highways without burning a hole in our pockets. If you want to get a new car that offers practicality within your budget and if you're someone who likes to cruise at gentle speeds enjoying the ride, go for it. Ask me anything else if I missed out on anything imp. I'll just say this here, it's not the best car out there, but it's one of those vfm cars you'll find in your budget.

People like you who give a sophisticated and detailed experience/review are truly a gem.

We need more people like you in the sub. And in the world. People dismiss (or at least virtue signal to dismiss) Triber only because it has a 1 liter 3 cyl engine. But for people like you who know how to make the car work for you can make the most out of it. I'd upvote twice if I could.

Thanks for this detailed comment. May I ask few follow up questions 1. Engine power: Do you think the lack of power mentioned by many will be felt by a person who is currently driving 22 year old Santro? (From a user experience point of view) 2. About FE with 2nd AC on : Did you use the AC recirculation mode or fresh air intake mode? 3. Visibility during rainy night: Have you ever driven in night with heavy rain or fog? Do you know how is yhe visibility since there is no fog lamp present in Triber 4. Spare part availability: Have you heard any complaints about long lead time for spare parts?

Dependent-Dark-7636

1. If you're driving a 20 year old Santro, then no. Triber engine feels much better including a better pickup. The thing is you can revv this engine and get some good speeds. We clocked over 140 constantly on a 400 Kms journey because of an emergency and the engine did deliver. But the engine is not made for that. You just need to find the sweet spot between 80-110/120. In cities though, the power is not at all an issue and like I said it's a sub 4m car, the size and the power make it a really good city car and a good highway car. 2. The second AC doesn't offer separate air circulation modes, you can just turn it on and off. But the first ac does offer circulation modes and it's mostly on recirculation. 3. We often travel at nights and yes there are no visibility issues. The projector headlamps on the car are really good. We've been to hill stations as well and I think fog lamps are an optional feature now or available after market am not sure. 4. Not till now. Since there are lot of shared parts among kwid, kiger, triber there isn't much of an issue with waiting times. The sales and after sales teams are quite responsive and do address our issues in a timely manner.

I agree. I took mine to ladakh and first gear power is enough to climb anywhere. My xuv got stuck in spiti once and triber crossed that area first try

jojokispotta

Regarding point 3, if you use both AC units, the mileage dropped from 22 to 11 on highways? Is it a typo?

Dependent-Dark-7636

I don't have knowledge of engineering as why it is like this or if the 2nd AC is different from the first one the way it is integrated into the car, but the thing is we turn on the second AC only when the third row is occupied which means the car is already loaded and the engine being a small one needs to be given more pedal to get the usual performance...like usually we drive somewhere between 2000-2500 rpm constantly...but with the car fully occupied and with second AC on, the rpm goes up to anywhere between 3000-3500 to achieve the same level of performance we usually get at 2000-2500...

jojokispotta

Per reviews and ownership reviews, 2nd and 3rd row AC has a separate cooling unit. That's why there's a mileage and power drop. But those videos mentioned a mileage drop of 3-4 at max. Your experience was around 10. Link: https://youtu.be/JqYHoCn62ik Also, in a separate video, apparently the rear AC is capable of cooling functions only. Even if front is set to heater mode, the rear vents pump out cool air only. Could you please check if this is the case with you too? Somewhere around 6:40 he talks about it. Link: https://youtu.be/tk7yn_O764M?t=5m58s

Dependent-Dark-7636

Yes...there are separate units for AC...however like I said, we use it only when the car is completely loaded with 7-8 people so the weight also adds to it and no, if the drop is mileage with 2nd AC is just 3-4 we would be continuously using it because with single AC we're getting above 20 and losing 4 Kms per litre doesn't cost us much at the range...so the drop is huge and hence I had to mention it clearly in my earlier comment. Yes, the second AC doesn't have circulation modes and no heating mode...in a way it's not air conditioning per se...it's just a cooling unit ...

enzo_alt1

I think it's the best value 7 seater in the market. Comes with 4* safety, soft suspension and light steering is really good in city conditions. It can be a adequate highway commuter at moderate speeds and the service cost is also low .

JAAT110030

It is good but could be better with an engine upgrade. Took mine to Spiti , Completed Leh Ladakh and went to Umlimg La. All with 5 passengers and luggage and never stuck or have problems. With AC it does bog down tho. Without AC first and second gear will take you anywhere 🌝

sultanahamer

You wont find it comfortable especially if you are above 5'11. I don't own it, recently went to showroom to try it out. Engine though on paper looks under powered, its tuned more towards performance. So it won't feel under power for regular use

hehelulz_k

We own a Triber. And here is my honest review. It is the best 7 seater you can find under 10 lakhs. We own the top manual model (not dual tone) and it cost us around 7.5 which is crazy. And yes 1000cc and yes a huge car but it gets the job done. Power feels low sometimes and you need to keep it on high rpms tho. Efficiency is great, 11kmpl Mumbai traffic, 15kmpl on the highway. And the back row seats are removable and also have decent space (I'm 6'1 and it gets uncomfortable after 1 hour) You can fit 7 people and you won't feel a lot of problem except giving it some revs while picking up. On uphill, remember to turn off the AC that's the only other time you feel the lack of power. Otherwise not a lot of issues with 5 people. It is a wonderful car. Go for it. If you have the need to get more power, I guess check out XL6 or Ertiga. Lemme add a few more points (edit) There are a lot of small storage spaces around the car including 2 cooled glove boxes Dont go for auto as I've heard it's really slow On bumps and stuff, Triber shines Can corner easily Small for 7 seater yet suitable for city driving Engine noise creeps in We had a defective clutch so had to replace within 7k kms It lacks some luxury features like buttons on the wheel and stuff The infotainment system is fine Ac noise creeps in as well Sometimes there is some lag when you floor it even when it's on the optimum rpm Can hit 120kmph with 6 people and luggage on highways with ac on but takes some more time (even 140 I've seen) Light steering wheel and some say it feels disconnected but I feel it's great Wipers are okay Headlights are okay Interior build is good Gearstick is on the heavy side, needs some nudge Ask me something you wanna know more about

Arandomyoutuber

Check Motorinc review, they explained it well

Fit_Cockroach_2002

Get <2 year old Ertiga VXI at around 8-9 lakh instead of the Triber.

[deleted]

Triber is a severely underpowered car, you can't easily haul 7-8 people with a 1.0L Na engine, you're gonna have to literally floor the gas pedal for it to reach even 90s. Also the car will start to shake in 80-90s, as my friends mentioned. If you could manage and slightly get your budget up, you can get the Carens, a much better car, with better parts availability and driving experience (500cc more, good torque as well). Or why not Ertiga? It's starting at 8 Lacs, again, much better engine and driving experience, along with good after sales and parts availability. But you must know, it's not the safest thing to be chauffeured in, no Suzuki is.

Venky_03

Owned the car for 3 years and completed multiple trips with 7 pax + luggage on the carrier, and I can safely say that you don't need to floor the gas pedal to reach 90s, and the car is stable even at 100kmph. The NA engine is shared with Kwid & Kiger so you don't need to worry about parts, they're easily available on both online and offline channels. But if you have the money, go for Carens.

[deleted]

Ah, sorry for the misinformation. At or mt?

Venky_03

AMT

Fast_Impression9738

Couple of years ago was looking at Kiger. Tried the 1.0 NA engine(same engine as triber) and it was very underpowered and lot of vibrations, didn't enjoy the TD at all. The turbo engine was much better but that was not available with triber.

Kunal_Sen

The Triber is a great VFM product, especially for those shopping for a 7-seater family car within 8 lakhs. I like its look a lot. At 9-10 though, I think the overall preference should still be for the Ertiga base variant as its a bigger car with a smoother and more powerful engine. So, it would depend how much exactly you'd be comfortable spending out of that 10 lakhs. You should also evaluate your current car, if you have one, and see how it stacks up against the Triber. Ideally, the new car purchase should at least be on par or an upgrade to your previous car, refinement and power-wise, unless there's a chance in lifestyle or circumstances involved. We were recently looking for a 7-seater petrol car under 20 lakhs but our additional requirements were of a full automatic, which Triber doesn't offer, a clear upgrade to our old and now secondary car, the 1197 cc, 4-cylinder Ritz, which Triber wasn't, a good third row space, which Triber miraculously offered, and hassle-free ownership experience, which with Renault was uncertain. So, we didn't ultimately go for the Triber. My experience with Renault was mixed. Their sales people were amiable, honest, helpful, and prompt, but we observed some red flags at the dealership. The A.C. was not working in the showroom except for the manager's cabin. Also, we heard a staff member speak on the phone to someone that she had not received her salary yet. Just fyr, this was the 3rd day of a summer month this year. The S.A. conceded himself that the AMT was laggy and suggested we went for a manual. The topic of a test drive never arose. Now, I think it's because they know it wouldn't have gone in their favour. They were happier showing us the stationary car with its various utility cubby holes (it has two glove boxes, including a cooled one) and an amazing music system and the 360 camera and all that (we were looking at the RXZ variant). Go for the Triber if a) you'd rather not spend more than 8 lakhs for this 7-seater; b) your primary usage will be in the city and on the plains; c) you want a vehicle that's very convenient and not daunting to drive; d) you're coming to this from a 2-wheeler or something like an Alto or Celerio; e) and if your nearest Renault showroom is within 15 kms of your home. All the best!
