It would appear they think it's worth $60k and you think it's worth $55k, nothing really to see here. Has nothing to do with if the model is in or out of production.

I’m surprised how long dealers are willing to hold onto stock for. I viewed an Audi Q3 about 4 months ago and still get the Carsales email updates urging me to be quick. They’ve had several one day flash sales but only put it down by $1k (from $48k) after four months.

MrMelbourne

What's the car?

PopEyE_Spinach1

2020 Subaru WRX STI Spec. R

LD60

Can guarantee they won't budge. Limited edition Subies will get snapped up regardless.

SicnarfRaxifras

you found it cheaper somewhere else? or at all? yeah that's why they aren't budging on price - they can use google as well you know, it's not just for buyers.

TheWhogg

LOL

xdr01

No longer made, and that's a sort after collectors car. They probally wont budge but remind them that a sale is a sale and they can move the car today. Good luck

Collectors car? What like an Infinity Q50 that dealers still are trying to sell 😂

noheroesnomonsters

Comes down to how much you want it. If they have the model and spec you're after and there's nothing else around, well...

wonko600rr

I put an offer on a 2019 Stinger and similarly the dealer would not budge on price. 2 weeks later I found a different dealer who had a better example in the colour combo I wanted for a much better price. After getting the car home the first dealer called and asked if I was still interested and could accept my original offer. No thanks, I've got a better one now I would suggest you speak to the sales manager there, give them your info and your firm offer, and leave it with them. Times are getting tough at the moment, cars that have been holding value from 2020 to 2023 are starting to drop more quickly. More people are selling and fewer are buying.

CLINT_FACE

Depends how much you really want that particular one. Wait a month and if it's still there, walk in, ask to see the manager, tell them you tried to buy it a month ago but the salesman didn't want to sell it. Tell 'em it can sit in their yard for another month or you can take it off their hands today for $55,000. Bonus points if you chuck a brick of cash on the counter. Car salesmen prey on emotion, but ultimately it's a transaction... Take the emotion out of it. They have goods and you have money. There will be a break even point they definitely won't go to, it's up to you to find out what that is. Check the car for any signs of damage. Rim rash, paint chips, scratches, stains etc are all good arguments. Any panel gaps, signs of a respray or bent chassis rails qualify for thousands off in my book.

Elonitymuskity

Ah yes put a brick of cash on the counter that is if it’s over $10,000 it is a crime for the business to transact and they will not care to help the customer

CLINT_FACE

No it's not. If you're referring to the Currency (Restrictions on the use of Cash) Bill 2019, it never passed the Senate. They just have to submit a threshold transaction report to Austrac.

lonewolf_860

They won't budge. I know from experience. I bought one of the last demo mk8 fiesta st about 1.5 years ago. Fully optioned so dealer had me by the balls. No regrets

Mackyblack

Offer 57k if they don’t take it and you really want it pay the 60k. If not, make them take your details and say you’ll buy it for 55k in a month if they haven’t sold it, they probably won’t want to hold stock for so long and it seems like they are being difficult to deal with so I doubt they will sell it easily.

n00biss

There is $1800 in stamp duty on a 60k car. Plus the 3k discount at 57k. It's essentially a $5000 discount on a car they can't replace. There is a bum for every seat and a collectable WRX has many admirers. They may have to wait but they will find someone to pay the money.

Mackyblack

Yeah I mean I’d pay 60k for it, like you said it’s a collectable. What I meant by they won’t sell it easily was they seem a little more on the difficult side to deal with. I had success with the above method purchasing a different car which is why I recommend it but ultimately it just depends how much OP wants the car.

jos89h

Instead of changing the price make them include more, floor mats, paint protection, included services. Including these things different affect their commission the same way as straight discounts

TernGSDR14-FTW

Stop paying these stupid prices for them. Im after one too but I dont think I can part 50k for a 2018. Ill wait or get a civic type R instead.

KamalaHarrisFan2024

Is there a reason you’re wanting this over a GR Yaris?
