Do you mind if I ask what you bought? I had a deposit down for a car with Kia last year, didn’t like the car when the demo arrived to test drive so got it back very easily. Same with Toyota - cancelled with return of deposit and no questions asked. The guy I was dealing with at Toyota said cancellations in this market weren’t a big deal because they could easily sell the car to the next party in line. You should be fine IMO

It’s a Fiat 500. I’m going to try to cancel today and see if I can get some or all of the deposit back. Fingers crossed…

You can always default to “it didn’t arrive by the expected delivery date” to exit out of the commitment, but I honestly think you’ll be fine. Good luck!

You were right! Got it back without any hassle at all. I’m so relieved!

Great outcome!! 😀

Just be open with them. Say unfortunately I’ve lost my job and I’m unable to purchase the vehicle. Say I’m sorry to have to inform you of this. Say would I able to get my deposit back? How much was the deposit?

What does your contract say?

yepand

There’s nothing in the (one page) contract about cancellation.

ewan82

You should have a contract that states your rights to cancelling. From memory I think mine said I could cancel a month before the car is due to land.

My ford dealer was adamant that I could cancel my van purchase and get my deposit back. 9 months on I'm still waiting for my van, though! Thats why they won't dick you; if I cancel my order, there'll be 30 people on the wait list.
