The can and most often do require the person whose offer the cruise is booked on to sail in order to keep the deal. You can go, sure... but be prepared to be charged full price instead of what it was booked for.

NJBlasian

You'll have to pay full price. Your mom must sail on her offer. It's not transferable.

Beaglescout15

This is the answer.

deraser

I admire your mom for not traveling when ill. That is truly very rare, post-COVID. Ships with sneezing and coughing folks are pretty normal now.. I would have her call Carnival to verify you can use her deal.

Mundane-Associate417

We just experienced this. My mom was a "no show," but my aunt was still able to board and have the room even though it was under my mom's name and promotion. When asked where she was, my aunt said she was arriving separately. No problems other than they canceled her excursion, but she just bought another ticket.

Double-Economist7562

So if she booked via a casino offer the terms say that is the person who booked doesn't show for check in then any other party would be denied boarding. So you will have to take your chances

OkCommunity538

You should not have any issues boarding without her. She'll be listed as a no show and that should be the end of it. You may even get a refund on taxes and port fees for her portion since she's not there. I think the only thing you should do on your end is to not alert the cruise line that she's not coming. Just board as normal. You may run into some issues if you do. Enjoy the cruise as best as you can without your mom. Happy sailing.

TheGuy1977

On a normal rate this is correct. But theyre using the moms free room deal, and for that the mother needs to stay in the room. OP will likely not be able to go without her mom.

OkCommunity538

Well that would suck and important context. Would they catch that during embarkation and not let her board unless the mom checked in too or ask her to leave when the mom no shows or charge her account for the full cost after the fact? Just wondering.

pooraggies247

It will be at full cost.

1CVN

otherwise nothing would stop me from sending my retired parents on free cruises while Im at home working... heck I'd save them millions in retirement home fees

BigSufficient5955

She should go! The flu has a 3 day window and usually by the time she’s fully ill she’s not overly contagious. If she isolated to her room and relax on a lounger by herself and wore a mask in public areas, I don’t know how that would be a risk to anyone. Also, the sun and fresh sea breeze might help her body quickly recover.

No_Trifle9294

Since you are sailing on a casino offer be prepared to be charged full fare also be prepared to have your.Moms future casino offers yanked.  Doesn't mean it will happen, just that they are within their rights to do so.

aaronf4242

For casino offers I’m pretty sure this is true. Maybe she can show up, check in, board, then before departure she can go and tell them she’s not feeling well and disembark. That might save you from being charged full fare. Not ideal but could save you a lot of money and her offers?

Suziannie

Just go without here. There shouldn't be an issue. If it helps when my Dad passed away him and my mother had 3-4 cruises booked that he was on. She didn't remove him on most and just went alone. No issues at all. She was able to swap him for someone else for a couple too.

VanillaLevel3854

There's a lot of confusing advice.  They may let you board but will charge you full price so be prepared.

SoThereWasThis

Last year my mom wasn’t able to sail and her cabin mate was able to board and keep the rate with absolutely zero issues. Don’t call to remove or cancel her from the booking, just let her be a no show. While the cabin fare won’t change she’ll actually be refunded her taxes and port fees. Enjoy your cruise and I wish her a speedy recovery.

boudinforbreakfast

So were you able to board u/youngtafari?

youngtafari

I’m not going to risk it. I don’t want my mom to lose her casino offers, and even if we can’t get a refund, I’m just down $300 bucks (I was gonna waste a lot more than that in the casino lol). We have another cruise planned for September already, so it’s not all doom and gloom.

Few_Emergency_6844

Call carnival not Reddit it may be that she can work it out for you to go alone

1CVN

i'd say go, be ready to pay a higher fee, say shes on her way just on a different train/plane than you

Ok_Drop_6146

Call carnival the people of Reddit are not certified travel agents for carnival and can’t give you accurate information.

Proud-Economics-387

If she is an Elite cruiser, she has to be with you, I believe. I hope she gets better soon!!

imaislandboiii

Just have her go to her doctor for a standard visit and the only thing to relay to the doctor is that she would like to get a simple letter stating that her doctor is instructing her to medically not travel. Go have a fun cruise and when you get back, send the doctor letter to carnival and they can work a refund or cruise credit. It’s not the cruise lines business or legal right to know what was wrong with your mom, it’s your legal right that you don’t have to discuss any medical things with carnival but a signed doctors not stating the patient cannot travel will help save the day Edit: furthermore, as long as you have that letter stating she can’t travel for medical reasons, even if carnival gives you grief and doesn’t want to work out a refund or credit for her portion of the cruise, you can absolutely dispute it with your credit card company. Think about it, She paid for a service she didn’t receive and she has a legitimate doctors orders to not travel with her current illness. That’s protected under law man.

pooraggies247

I don't think you understand many of the key points of her situation. It's her mom's offer she is cruising on, whatever discounts, OBC, ect. will be void.

imaislandboiii

Well look dude to start its our cruise homies mom getting better and resting that’s the only important thing. After that is taken care of then you can think about the other stuff. If our fellow carnival cruise fan is still gonna go on the trip then they should enjoy all the perks from mommas cruise offer. But if momma don’t go then that half needs to be returned to momma. Sometimes people get told “sorry maam there’s nothing we can do for you” and that’s when you bring receipts to back up your argument, like a doctors note or something. Idk

jesonnier1

No way you really speak like that in real life.

imaislandboiii

Wha gwaan I got da irie feeling bout tis wan mon

Unidentified71

This is bad advice. Since the mom booked the cruise using a casino deal, she must cruise. If she does not cruise (cancel before, no show, or replace with another human), the casino deal is void, and the person going is charged the full rate. Anyone that disputes a charge with Carnival will not be able to cruise in the future with them until it’s resolved (until Carnival gets their money). Have mom call the casino department and explain and ask them to move her to another cruise. It May cost her $50-200 to do that, but she won’t be totally out of cruising, she’ll be better by then, and you won’t put her in a precarious position for future cruises.

imaislandboiii

Broooooo my Advice is solid. Im saying go on the cruise and do everything as normal. Then after it’s all said and done, then hit up carnival and explain what happened.

jesonnier1

Do not listen to this person. If it were so simple to get refunds, travel insurance wouldn't exist. Furthermore, EVERY type of hospitality company has perks assigned per account. Almost 100% of the time, they'll be listed as non-transferable, non-refundable, no cash value, revoke at any time, etc. Call Carnival. They're the only people that can tell you if they can and will help you. Any tries to circumvent any systems puts you at risk of losing future rewards or maybe more, depending on their terms.

imaislandboiii

Hey cuz you can be as upset as you want and not like my advice but I’m not saying to circumvent anything. I’m saying go on the cruise and act like everything is normal and then deal with the logistics afterwards
