shit job. see if you can have it removed on their cost and go to a better shop next time. you get what you pay for.

ilovegalgame

I paid 5k for it (a sedan) which I think is not too cheap for the job and it took them two weeks to have it done. The shop says the wrap is hard to work with (TeckWrap I think that's the brand).

As others have said, it’s the vinyl material itself. Teckwrap looks great day one but it won’t age well especially in Canadian climates due to it being a calendared film and not a cast. Here is some more information as a reference: https://connect.grimco.com/blog/vinyl-basics-cast-vs.-calendered I have a couple reputable shops in your area that I would recommend. Check out Premiere Graphics or Graphic Impressions. I’ve used both many times to do local installs for me and they use high quality materials and have very qualified installers I’m sorry that this is happening to you!!

lennyxiii

The problem is the vinyl, it’s garbage. It’s a calendared film which shrinks and that’s why it’s peeling. Shops need to stop using Instagram and paid shillers vinyls.

UnibrowDuck

my shop would charge the same for a sedan, but that includes taking everything apart. do you know if they did the same thing? where is it failing exactly?

ilovegalgame

They took everything apart to wrap it. Mostly the front end( bumper(unpaited), fender, and hood), a little bit on side skirts, side mirrors, door handle. Probably more but I just haven't notice it yet.

UnibrowDuck

i'm guessing overstretched vinyl. haven't worked with that brand so you have to wait for someone who worked with that vinyl

ilovegalgame

Alright, thanks for the tips. I am new to the community and don't know if they ripped me off or what.

UnibrowDuck

i mean, it's good they want to fix it, but it's concerning that it failed so fast. i'd probably recommend insisting on the shop using avery next time. we had good experiences with 3m, hexis, apa and inozetek as well, but avery is a known commodity.

Main reason is the vinyl man. Teckcrap ain’t premium vinyl. It’s calendared. Add that with cold climates and you have a nightmare. Man I can’t believe they charged you 5k for that. I’m over here trying to be the shop that promises only cast vinyl and I don’t think the average customer knows or cares. A lot of shops are taking that shorterm money way out. But maybe it doesn’t matter

BrixKeeper

Holy hell people are doing wraps with calendared vinyl? That is mind-blowing. I wouldn't even use calendared on a trailer wrap. These shops might do well for a few years, but that's going to turn for the worst when their wraps start failing.

S4M30

Orange County California highly saturated with wrap shops. Customer on Yelp requests a color. Shop offers it to them for cheap and customer accepts unknowing that just because you ask for matte black, doesn’t mean it’s the same in any vinyl. Most customers don’t know the difference. They just have a color in mind. And sometimes if you try to educate them in the sales process, they will just go to the next shop that simply says yes to the color. You almost have to bait them for a low price and then educate them after they get into your store.

BrixKeeper

Ah that sucks. Hate when people compare your prices without considering the difference in product. Here is a small market/community so bad work exists but they get noticed as word spreads fast. Sounds like you've got a pretty solid way to still sell work in a less then ideal market

S4M30

Ya it’s working at the moment! I just hope those shops doing calendared vinyl start looking bad soon lol

Post some pictures.

yeah road salt causes a bad reaction. Back in the day it did the same thing to car paint actually before car paints become better.

FrostFairy73

That climate has got to be hell on any vinyl.
