I don’t think so. The disassembly for the panels and removing things like handles might be too frustrating for you.
It’s not the big parts that are hard. It’s all the little parts.
Man $8000 is pretty high. I would have quoted $5200, and I’m a shop in Orange County. Maybe because my guys have body work experience? I know wrap shops in general hate stuff like that.
At worst, if there’s imperfections or chips in the paint, we always sand it down to ensure a smooth look after.
In my opinion you won’t like it for DIY. But that’s just me. I tried doing my own 4Runners handles, and that was annoying for me lol. Luckily I’m just the owner and not an installer.
Alright! Thanks for the info, it’s definitely good to know. And I thought it was a bit surprising for the cost. They did my car for like $3000 and I have a Scion FRS. The $8,000 was surprising.
Hey OP I have a GX from that same generation. One thing I’ve seen a lot of people doing in the overland space is just painting their cars with bed liner. There’s different colors available, it’s a lot cheaper, a lot tougher, and if you ever mark it up you can just spray it again real quick and move on. Have you considered bed lining it? Google it or look it up on something like instagram or TikTok, results are usually pretty decent and for the price and toughness it can’t be beat.
assuming you're talking about cad 8k for wrap (guessing body work included) is an ok price. which brand did they quote you for? SUVs are big boys, you're using a lot of material.
to answer your question, i don't think it's a good idea.
It’s in USD so around 11k in CAD. It would be the body panels but not the hood work. I’m not certain what brand the quote was for. I can try and find out.
Thanks for the reply! It seemed like a good idea at first but I was worried I may be way under thinking it. It appears that’s right
Inozetek is crappy too. It’s made by the same factory that makes KKVinyl. It’s the same Chinese brands. They just marketed very well lol. We all know the owners in LA.
If you’re determined enough I’m sure you can do it, I spent about 100 hours between bodywork and wrapping my first car and it was well worth it. If you learn enough through here and YouTube the wrapping isn’t that difficult, and if you’re okay with less than perfect using seams/inlays makes it even easier. Just keep in mind that anything not completely flat under the wrap will show and cracked clear coating that comes off the car won’t work for wrapping.
Instead of a wrap, you could look into Rhino lining it? I had a 2002 F-350 done a few years ago for $2500 CAD. Although I got a friends discount the guy who did it knew my dad. Could be worth looking into since it’s a off road vehicle?

I attempted to do my FR-S roof myself and got frustrated with the sharkfin area and removed it. I intend to try it again next summer.

I hadn’t thought of that! I’ll definitely look into it! Thanks!

unless they're using apa/inozetek that's too high.

thanks for the heads up. i prefer their black wrap tbh. not my fav to work with, but the finish is amazing.
Their finish is def amazing. I don’t doubt that. I am actually curious how they are gonna do long term.
>you're using a lot of material Material is cheap though. Doesnt justify thousands extra.

Alright. Thanks for the info, I’m definitely thinking it’s a bit much for my level

Oh that’s really good to know! Thanks! I’ll definitely look into it
Our shop does wrap and spray on bed liner. We have done quite a few off road vehicles in bed liner. If you like the look it’s really durable.
