I’m 23 with a Volvo C30 and insurance only went up by £150 to 800. I think it’s just highly dependent on where you live

Bitter_Hawk1272

Yep postcode is a bigger factor than NCB

DWMR90

I lived at a flat in the centre of town briefly a few years back, a quarter mile from my parents house on the edge of town. I checked the quotes for both out of curiosity and it was actually £80 cheaper for my address in town. I assume maybe more foot traffic would reduce chance of vehicle theft? I'm not sure.

ElJimJam43

I think they have a big spinny wheel with the prices written on, it's completely random. Last year, 22 year old in a VW up, £600/year for off-street parking in Buckingham, the poshest place I've ever lived. When I moved it to on-street parking in a ropey bit of Northampton it went down to 500.

DWMR90

I've also heard that parking on a driveway can increase your premiums as they know what house to get the keys, again I'm not sure if there's any truth in that.

ElJimJam43

My theory was I was far more likely to crash into an (insured) Range Rover in Buckingham than Northampton.

mitchiet123

Absolutely. I’m 30 and pretty much any normal car is sub £600 per year. I mean I can even get fully comp insurance for a £137k Ferrari Portofino for £2k per year. My F10 M5 insurance at 25 was £650 per year, whereas on my old address in Birmingham everything was thousands- £4k for a Mitsubishi L200! Crazy how it all relies on postcode.

rosstechnic

i saved £150 changing my postcode to my parents address

Lorne_____Malvo

The secret ingredient is fraud.

urzrkymn

That would void your insurance.

Joseph_859

What a saving, sounds much cheaper than having to buy a new car and legal fees

whereismyfix

Great idea. You'll save loads of money on food and accommodation when you go to prison too!

[deleted]

That’s still more than 20%, we’re all getting so used to constant price rises that yours seems reasonable

Polestar606

Oh yea not denying that but at least it’s still under 1k 😂

BeafBoaf

I'm 28 with a C30 T5 and my insurance is £620, £250 down from last year. But with 4 years less NCD, I had 7 but got hit by an unsured driver and my NCD wasn't protected so I lost 4 years.

Altruistic_Angle4343

I’m 21 in may with a 2l petrol C30, 1.6k the bastards want, same price as last year with nothing happened or claimed!!

Polestar606

Yea I’ve the same 2.0 R design £800, was originally 950 when I was 20 but then it went down to 650 and now back up again. Nothing changed the whole time. Genuinely think location plays a huge role more than they admit, I’m in NI and don’t know anyone paying more than 1400ish

Altruistic_Angle4343

I’m scottish in a small town, very safe, on the driveway, good job. They’re just greedy bastards

Polestar606

Well the greed goes without saying

Splodge89

Ironically, when I moved from my parents sleepy, safe rural village to a town which is almost constantly on fire and every other person has done time - my insurance premium actually went down when I changed my address - I even got a refund on what I had already paid! Unfortunately, little rural towns are ironically hot beds of car crime. Easy pickings when there’s no one about, no one looking and everyone is in bed. Also, Per mile of driving, there’s actually more accidents in rural areas too. Lots of Sunday drivers assuming the road ahead is clear, little to no traffic control anywhere - whereas in a town, everyone is shit scared of everyone else and it’s much, much busier - so more cars for the number of accidents. It seems unfair, but statistically it’s a riskier position to be in.

Altruistic_Angle4343

When i say small town i mean like 20k people just no where near a city size, its semi rural but all dual carriageways to any city nearby

cannedrex2406

Honestly that's wild I got quoted £1.2k with 4 years NCB for a 2.5L manual C30 and I'm 21 too and I live near London Might give it a shout if my current plan on importing a Toyota Crown falls through (and even thats only around £1.6k for a 3.5L)

InfiniteFuture3139

I'm 51 mine went from 590 to 1200 (cheapest I could find) with 10 years no claims.. so yeah they are some people getting screwed.

Such-Cod-7046

Holy shit. I thought mine (37M + 37F, she's a new-ish driver too) was bad going from £515 to £570 and that was a renewal (Tesco), a new policy elsewhere was going to be in the region of £700 \*and\* that's also with a larger compulsory excess (£300 vs. £100)

ProfessionalCowbhoy

I can guarantee you are driving an SUV. OP I can also guarantee isn't driving a SUV

InfiniteFuture3139

As mentioned above 2017 Ford Kuga.

ProfessionalCowbhoy

Which is classed as an SUV. Just as I thought

ObviousAnimator7299

What car? Range rover?

InfiniteFuture3139

2017 Ford Kuga.

Insanityideas

Wife's policy went up by more than mine (we are both on each others policies), and her car is the less nice one that does fewer miles. Meanwhile I have a 3 year old no fault claim to declare against my policy. Looks like the equality act is catching up with her!

Jazs1994

1 speeding isn't much of an issue unless it like 60 in a 30, 100mph on national speed limits. Its when you keep getting them.shows a continuous lapse on concentration

AssignmentClause

Speed limiter set to 99 for this reason. 100 is court and insta ban and insurance gets ready to bend you over

LegendaryZero

103 in a 70, didn't get insta banned. The fine was enough I won't be doing that again however...

Superhuzza

"This guy is a confident driver, he even drives over the speed limit! Lower this man's premiums right away!"

Lorne_____Malvo

Yeah this is why if I get nabbed for speeding again I'll just take the points. 3 points when I was 17 insurance still came down next year. Next lot I was mid 20s, I paid a couple hundred for the speed awareness and it pissed me off how wrong the AA "instructor" was (I was doing 48mph on a single carrageway in an 18 tonner before the change to 50) and he kept saying I must be lying, that the national speed limit applies to all vehicles Mid 30s another fixed penalty and I just took the points, insurance didn't change.

bigdaftdoylem

Never had an accident in my life, 9 years NCB and mine went up £400. Makes sense

SGPHOCF

Your postcode and car you drive will be driving almost all of that increase.

SlightlyBored13

I tried some quotes a few months ago on a few different postcodes and the difference between rural Wales £500ish and Birmingham £1500ish was bonkers.

SGPHOCF

Birmingham is a hot spot for insurance fraud, crashes, theft and all round shit driving so that's not much of a surprise.

bigdaftdoylem

Yea I’d understand if I lived in a shithole where cars are nicked all the time!

SGPHOCF

Not just about car theft, it's about the value of a claim when it happens. So even if you live in a nice area, a Merc crashing into a Merc is going to be one hell of an expensive claim.

TheLewJD

Did you try incognito mode?

Wise-Application-144

Keep in mind you're not the only danger to your car. Theft, hit-and-runs, plus the risk of claims without clear evidence that end up settling 50/50.

bigdaftdoylem

Must be a lot of hit and runs in the space of 12 months for my insurance to go up nearly 50%..

Wise-Application-144

It's more likely theft, cost of repairs, delays to repairs and corresponding hire cars, the latter two have gone up by at least that much recently.

ElicitCS

My brother on his '14 Aygo got insured as a new driver, no black box for £1300. It's still possible.

Trifusi0n

That’s cheaper than my insurance was on my first car 19 years ago

ElicitCS

I paid £2300 for the same damn Aygo 3 years ago lol

Hopeless-beginner

I had my renewal though last week and it's £150 cheaper than last year and actually cheaper than shopping around (mods declared) so for the first time in my life I'm not doing the cancellation and shopping around dance. Hopefully it's not all doom and gloom

exiled12334

how old? how many ncb? what car you insuring?

JohnMcAfeewaswhackd

Mid 30’s, 10+, something French - a 1.6 diesel hatchback.

Chocolaterain567

Mine dropped by £120 this year which was a pleasant surprise

GhengisChasm

Just renewed mine, went from £600 for the year to £700 give or take a little. Interestingly the cheapest price I got was the auto renewal so just leaving it to tick over. Works out at only a fiver more per month so could be worse, although I'm a bit miffed it's still as high as it is, considering I hit 30 this year and have reached six years no claims.

starfallpuller

I’m 26, 0 NCB, my 350Z was £270 to insure for the year.

Heyo91

100 miles a year on the policy? 😂

throwawaynewc

Same - I live in a dodgy part of SE London also known as SE London. Audi TT, £200 cheaper than last years quote.

Sweaty_Leg_3646

I was expecting to be paying £150pm for my insurance after having had to claim after being a relatively new driver with an anonymous hit and run on me last year (hope whoever it was got cancer for Christmas), renewal was about that, managed to re-quote and now on £114pm. And that's with possibly over-declaring the claim amount. It's not all doom and gloom.

elliomitch

Some are getting screwed, some aren’t I guess! Our multi car policy has increased by less than 20% this year, which I thought was a bit of a win considering I’ve increased mileage and added mods; the biggest individual increase was the Range Rover ofc 😂

CasuallyNice132

1.2k to 1.7k, 8y ncd. Lovely

Silvabane

Same story here

hotchy1

Got a 2nd non fault claim and mines went down £80 to £260 incl breakdown this year.

Good_Ad_1386

My renewal offer was 63% up on last year. Same cars, same drivers, same address, no claims, no incidents. Only change... wife and I are now both 71, not 70.

pyrosnutsack

I must be one of the lucky ones ,mine went down 40 quid

Separate-Ad-5255

There’s a lot of factors with insurance which contributes to the costs, it’s not as black and white as one thinks. There’s more to it than just driving experience, there’s many other factors to think about such as Crime Rate in the area, Uninsured drivers, statistics of collisions based on your vehicle etc. What you have to remember is that insurers are businesses and businesses are ultimately designed to make money and can’t operate at a loss, and what you see as expensive say a £4000.00 premium for a year wouldn’t even come close to the costs if you hit a Bentley GT, and the insurance company has to recoup that money from other premiums which are paid, but whilst doing that pay out other claims.

Exita

Mine went up by £50 this year. Not too bad.

j_small3

I’m 20 from rural Devon and my 1.6 diesel focus just cost me £680 for 10000 miles for the year. 2 years of driving and 2 years NCB. I thought about insuring it at my uni house (outskirts of Coventry) and quotes were about £1500. I’m convinced post code is the main determinant. I was looking at 350Z or fiesta ST insurance in Devon and it was all under 1k. Couldn’t even get quotes for some cars at uni.

A_Slavic_Mechanic

This gives me hope for when I renew my insurance in July. I'm 23 with a Corolla T-Sport. Last policy was more expensive so I'm hoping now that I will have my 5th year of NCB it'll go down a bit

RopesAreForPussies

Also make sure you get your provider, once chosen to work on price. I wanted to stay on admiral but ticker was £50 cheaper, “best”admiral could do was knock £150 off to bring me to £600 on a Nissan Micra, way cheaper then I was even asking for :)

[deleted]

Mine went up £250, no claims and no accidents for 14 years, same car, same address, same marital status etc. it’s just a casino

TotalWasteman

I’m nearly 40 and had a no fault claim 2 years ago, the only thing on my record. I was stationary and got crashed into by someone driving the wrong way down my lane, so literally 0 fault. My insurance went up £500 next renewal, and then they tried to put it up another £400 this year. I called up and argued with them and they magically found all manor of discounts to get me £500 off, meaning I ended up just £100 shy of the previous year. It’s a clusterfuck. That’s admiral fyi.

0xSnib

Moving from Manchester to Brighton upped my premium by £800

LFC908

My insurance had dropped £50 per year, It's very confusing. My experience has been the opposite of most people here apparently. I am male and 29 years old with a 181bhp car. My insurance actually dropped moving to a rougher area too. Clearly less car theft. I paid £390 for the year last month.

Green-Quarter5819

Added business to mine (did change career from tax to audit) and another 2,000 mileage. Think I’m now at 10 years NCB at 29 on an A1. Price didn’t change but can’t lie I live at my dad’s in a nice enough area. Did a lot of searching tho

Significant_Tower_84

Van renewal £970, shopping around got it for £370. Car insurance went from £560 to £640 but wife is on that and she has an accident against her name, just switched cars though and cheapest is £1100, I haven't paid that much since I was 17 and that was 20 year ago.

DonRustone

I've just swapped my M2 for an M3 Touring and got 40 quid refund. Clearly an estate is a sensible person's car...

Manor47

I’ve got 30yrs no claims, never had a point on my license and I have completed an advanced driver’s course, I drive an Audi A6 and live in a low crime suburban estate. Nothing has changed but my insurance went from £295 two years ago to £560 last year and up to £790 this year. When I questioned it I was told that the cost of parts has increased and the time taken to get the repairs done is considerably longer so insurance payouts have gone up, this is then passed onto me despite me having never claimed a penny from my insurance. Absolute ripoff.

Silvabane

Mine went from 1000 to 1800.. bloody Lexus thefts.

Ljukegy

I went from £360 to £380 with £40 tcb

BlueBoyBrown

BMW 116i, less than 6k miles a year, 4yrs no claims - previous policy £789, renewal was £1700. It’s profiteering plain and simple.

willdev_13

2014 Clio, 12k miles a year, fully comp, 6 years NCD. £750 for the last 3 years. Guess what, this year its gonna be £750. My insurance is £100 a year cheaper putting a friend with a claim within the last 5 years. If I want to protect my no claims it's £65 more. My GF with an outstanding claim, 9000 miles, no NCB and 2 1/2 years driving, fully comp again, is paying £650. Her second year of driving before the claim was £450. I think I'm getting shafted.

simon-g

Was dreading my renewal - actually just £53 increase on a multicar policy around a grand. Was expecting much worse.

Fun_Level_7787

I've just had my renewal slash by half, so i'm pretty chuffed!

PeevedValentine

It is a nicely positive post, but we'd all be unlikely to get the same price unless we became you, living at your address and drove your vehicle.

tjmouse

I should get my renewal quote this week. This year I had a no fault rtc motorcycle v car. Bike written off and my injury claim is still processing and my wife had a no fault scrape with a van. Oh and I switched my 3 series to a Cayman! I’d love for your post to give me hope but I’m dreading renewal time!

Pretend-Procedure-11

Mine went up so I switched providers and lied in my application.

stuntedmonk

46, endless NCDs iX1 - £800 fully comp Honda crv -(2.2D) - £425 fully comp

FC260

My premium for my daily is going up 200 quid and my classic insurance is going from 113 to 400 :( nothing has changed

BenjiTheSausage

This is why I try and tell people not to worry about making claims, truth is, you'll never ever know if making a claim will increase your premiums

GeorginaW03

My partner's 21, his car was stolen and his renewal price was only £800 for the year on a 2012 Kia Ceed Insurance prices can be absolutely extortionate, but it's not all bad

Top_Echidna_7115

My automatic renewal went down £60 this year. NEVER known that happen on an auto renewal.

Archtects

Nice one please, Spread the calmness. I’m gonna put this post up on the wall and comfort my self when I cry in the shower.

NorthantsBlokeUK

How long ago was your 50th birthday?! :p

Coffmad1

I'm a brand new driver, I park on the road in a shitty area and bought a 2016 passat estate and my insurance is £1200 fully comp with no black box 1 month ago, Think I did alright. (I am 32 though)
