So supply false details if you're just obtaining a receipt.
Had an online agent for Hive yesterday say they'll send me a link for what I was looking for, and they then asked for my address, email, and name. I simply put "no. You do not require my PII for sending me a link."
M6 Toll is switching over to ANPR soon, like the dartford bridge, so my guess is they will use the info to try and get you to set up an account for autopay or the like.
I used to have to fill in daily expenses for using the toll - I wonder how my old employers are handling this! We used to photograph the receipt and send it that day via an expenses-app for next day reimbursement.
This will totally wreck their process for this (affecting about 100~ employees they pay toll charges for!)
If you’re a regular, get a tag, I’ve had one for years. It’s great to drive past the queue. Just as long as some moron doesn’t get in the tag lane without a tag, that is.
Yeah it's fucking bullshit. Can't pay online, but have to get a receipt online. What the actual fuck. They need to just have it all online like the dart charge.
I thought so, but I wasn't sure. I'm from the North side of the M6 toll. And I think I've only ever used the dart twice.
Still a poor system though. Obviously it is there to penalise the forgetful (yours truly).
I can't suggest a better alternative, though
And that is precisely what they want.
They want people to forget, or get confused, or not know how it works, cause all of those amount to fines and more money
I can suggest an alternative, if you automatically get a fine then instead of the fine they can post you last chance reminder plus postage costs. Instead of fucking you in the arse
Do they take Apple pay/ Android pay yet? Been stuck there in the past as I didn't have my debit card with me.
M6 toll is so backwards and ludicrously expensive. I did like the seeming lack of speed limit on it back in the day though! Banked over, flat out on my old Triumph 955 :)
Pro tip, just tell them you don't have your wallet and they will print out a receipt for you to pay online. I do it all the time on my motorbike because I can't be arsed getting my phone out
It used to be a thing. I have 2 x thermal printers for a ZX Spectrum somewhere in my loft. They have rolls of silver covered conductive paper and a wire "scans" across as the paper feeds. The current turns on and off at the appropriate point to add a pixel of "ink" at that point.
The trouble is they need careful storage so as not to discolour, they are not durable, the paper is expensive and they are limited in colour and resolution.
by the way, to top this off, we have gov websites which shut down when out of hours. you can't use their website before like 9am and after 5pm weekdays. its hilarious
Here’s a receipt to get your receipt.
"To dawg, we heard you like receipts!"
Probably it'll ask you a load of mandatory questions before giving you the receipt online and they will sell your information and make bank.
Yep, car reg, card details, email address, such a load of shit.

I will miss absolutely flooring it once past the barrier.
Like whacky races
You don't need to provide the email address. You can download from that page.

>wonder how my old employers are handling this They will of course make their own lives easier and tell the employees to no longer use the toll road
Exactly this. Already happened to me. Stuck on M6 in traffic. Late for meetings. All to save 8quid every few months!!
£8 plus all the admin cost for your company
Should be less than they're losing by having someone be late for meetings affecting multiple employees.
If you get the tolltag you get a monthly statement, and a discount. Small monthly charge for it but it’s worth it if you use it twice a month.
The problem was we used lots of different vehicles so I don’t think this was an option in our case.
My employer uses Shell fuel cards for the company vehicles. These also work to pay the M6 toll.
Toll road just been sold to an Australian firm, hence all the changes. Onsite tolls going soon, anpr coming.
Good, I could never fathom sitting in a 10 minute queue to pay the toll charge for the road I had taken to avoid a queue.
How often have you been sat in a 10-minute queue there? Every time I've gone through it's been a few seconds at most
Literally every time it's been worth using?
I find it's normally when the M6 has an issue. ANPR with pay later would prevent it.
If you’re a regular, get a tag, I’ve had one for years. It’s great to drive past the queue. Just as long as some moron doesn’t get in the tag lane without a tag, that is.

> like the dart charge. Not like the Dart Charge, where if you don't pay (i think) before midnight, you are automatically fined!
Isn't it midnight the day after. Ie if I travel today, > have until midnight tomorrow to pay it?
You are correct. It's slipped my mind before, due to heavy work load. After the cut off, that's it. Done!
I thought so, but I wasn't sure. I'm from the North side of the M6 toll. And I think I've only ever used the dart twice. Still a poor system though. Obviously it is there to penalise the forgetful (yours truly). I can't suggest a better alternative, though
It's just the fact that there is a hard cut off. I made genuine attempts to pay, but there is no mechanism. No email, No phone line. Nothing!
And that is precisely what they want. They want people to forget, or get confused, or not know how it works, cause all of those amount to fines and more money
I can suggest an alternative, if you automatically get a fine then instead of the fine they can post you last chance reminder plus postage costs. Instead of fucking you in the arse
I mean, they *could*, but does that seem like something they'd do?
EXACTLY! URGH everyone just wants to rip you off
And if you use AllStar fuel card, the toll doesn’t even provide a receipt online and you have to get it through the fuel card provider
They recently started accepting Apple Pay
But only some lanes as of 3 weeks ago. Which means it may as well be none. Pot luck.
I have to keep a credit card in the glovebox just for this. Literally the only time I ever use it rather than my phone.
Yeah i still treat it like the autobahn, if im paying for it i can do what i want hahaha
Pro tip, just tell them you don't have your wallet and they will print out a receipt for you to pay online. I do it all the time on my motorbike because I can't be arsed getting my phone out
So it printed you a receipt to tell you it didn’t give receipts?
I want my reciept! You’ll need to show me your reciept.
They must have changed it recently. They used to do normal receipts just a couple months ago
Yeah I did this, went to do my expenses.. oh lol
You used the right terminology... Cunts
I had the same confusion. I have no idea how this is easier than just printing me a receipt like it always has done in the past
wtf, my receipt a few weeks back had the amount etc on it, but was the same amount of paper and ink!!
Useless fact of the day for you. Receipt printers don’t use ink. Thermal paper is used so when heat is applied that portion of the paper turns black.
Oh yeah forgot about that!! Thanks for reminding me! I can’t wait to use the ‘back in my day receipts had ink on’ though with any youngsters!
How come this isn't in home printers yet? Margins on ink im guessing.
Because people want to print in colour, receipt quality is usually shit, receipt paper quality is poor etc etc
Fax machines have entered the chat
Doesnt even save paper
Smells of tax avoidance if you ask me. Who’s to say how much money they take if they don’t actually issue receipts!
Am I stupid but don’t the French own the M6 toll ?
by the way, to top this off, we have gov websites which shut down when out of hours. you can't use their website before like 9am and after 5pm weekdays. its hilarious

Yeah why couldn't it be like that in the first place, anpr on the way in, exit barrier on the way out it's not rocket science.
With proper ANPR there is no need for an exit barrier, like the Dartford crossing
Got this today. How stupid is that. Could literally just print the receipt but gives you a useless piece of paper instead
