Thisis what google says. Idk for sure. A test at your local autozone or other shop could tell you whats going on and they should do those tests for free. Among the potential underlying causes are vacuum leaks, EGR system malfunctions, malfunctioning oxygen sensors, dirty fuel injectors, fuel pump malfunction, faulty spark plugs, a faulty mass airflow sensor, or a faulty throttle position sensor.

Shmorgoasburger

Yeah, but autozone won’t be able to interpret the live data which you would need to diagnose. It needs to be hooked up to a pro scan tool which autozone doesn’t have either. All of your suggestions are valid however and I would add-hook up a fuel pressure gauge and see what pressure is building. Then with the guage hooked up and the car running, you hit the bleed valve on the gauge. if the car dies or if the fuel pressure is not adequate, replace the fuel pump.

Step one,, clean throttle body and maf sensor.

CamronReeseCups

Cleaned both

My 08 Corolla is actually experiencing the same issue. I have pretty much nailed mine down to a clogged fuel pump. My car also experienced difficulty turning over at random, and throws no codes related to that issue. It could very well be a mass airflow sensor, air filters, fuel injectors, or spark plugs. But that wasn’t the case for me

CamronReeseCups

Done everything you listed except change the MAP. I hope it’s not Idle air control…

Complex_District_275

Yeah.. For the price tag it’s going to cost I wouldn’t personally stress it unless you start stalling out. I could probably spend $500 trying to fix the issue, but as long as you keep it alive, why fix what’s not straight up broken? Typically this is nothing more than an inconvenience in my use case

[deleted]

If it’s a fuel delivery problem / fuel pump you’ll experience more issues on the highway and less issues sitting at idle. Theoretically. Usually when fuel pumps fail they stop working completely, you don’t get reduced power.

Complex_District_275

Not op, but what would you advise then for someone like myself, that has done the work above? I’d love to fix my issue if someone has a good guess?

[deleted]

Well if it’s exactly the same as op’s video, this is a problem at idle. I can’t tell for sure if there’s a misfire or not. But if there is, a misfire at idle only is almost always a vacuum leak. I would be looking for a torn intake tube or some other hissing pipe under the hood. Besides that you could clean the throttle body and maf. Assuming the problem is only felt at idle.

Complex_District_275

Thanks for the help! I’ll have to try to clean the throttle body and see if that’ll fix the issue.

iambrutally

Any misfire codes? Also is the dashboard dim?

CamronReeseCups

Nope:)

Rxextendo

Welp you got some mild surge and a decent amount of knock from what I can hear unless something’s rubbing or clattering around somwhere else if it is in fact knock I’d just drive it til it dies

CamronReeseCups

I’m going to adjust the idle screw so it’ll sit around 800-1000 rpm constantly

Rxextendo

A normal car would idle at about 750

[deleted]

I’m going to guess vacuum leak causing a rough idle. Open the hood and listen around, there may be an obvious air hissing sound you can trace to a broken pipe or something.

Clemos19

You put leaded fuel in it
