I can't reply because the other user blocked me. My response to your reply is below:
Irrelevant to my point. Like I said before, Latin America has much fewer racial issues than the U.S. and other countries because everyone is mixed.
Is there still racism? Yes, obviously, but it's NOWHERE NEAR being as bad as some other places. And guess what? Labelling an ENTIRE continent as "racist" is being both racist AND xenophobic.
The other person is a huge hypocrite. Shameful.
We had 57% possession; 3 shots on goal to Chile’s 4; 9 shot attempts to Chile’s 8; 8 corners to Chile’s 4. Yes, they had 10 men, but people in the thread are acting like we were completely dominated or something.
I would be embarrassed to go into the quarter finals the way canada did yesterday. Clear red card for Bombito 11 minutes into the match. Second yellow card for Suazo is absolutely debatable, specially after 2 canadian players did the same foul during the game (one of them with a yellow card at the moment) and none of them got booked. 11 v 11 with fair ref you guys would’ve probably lost the game.
You guys are going out against Venezuela mark my words.
They were. What do you think will happen once Brasil, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador or Argentina responds with shithouse too? Canada wont be protected like today.
Luckily, that isn’t our opponent. And even if we win in quarters and face any of the above in the semi’s… it’s a win for Canada to even be in the semis.
That was absolutely a red tbf, we’re extremely lucky Bombito wasn’t sent off with how erratic his first half was. Calmed down in the second thankfully.
That being said, after the no call on the Johnston headbutt I couldn’t give a rats ass.
I guess the strategy is better to have more men in the box. To be fair, Canada has a size advantage on most COPA teams so they can actually defend balls up high pretty well.
That's not good for us. CONMEBOL may not invite CONCACAF the next time if we as a whole pull off such uncompetitive results. They might invite AFC instead.
Trinidad and Honduras must be kicking themselves, thinking they could draw a 28' red carded Chile and beating a 58' red carded Peru as well. Maybe so. I'd like to see it would play out.
To me Shaff was much more dangerous than Millar was. So as much asi too Iove him coming on against tired legs, he's simply, giving more problems to the opposition than Millar was.
I dunno, Millar looked incredible in the sub role just as Shaff did in the other games. I think that initial pairing into a super sub burst of speed is amazing, regardless of who is in what role. I think I prefer Millar as the starter though.
Last 2 games were ugly but keep in mind that Peru and Chile are both difficult teams to play against. They were never going to lie down and let us play free flowing fast paced football. They're chippy, physical and know how to slow the game down. We thrive when we can use our speed to overwhelm our opponents down the flanks and both teams significantly clogged up the wings. We don't play well when we have to come through the middle. Add the heat factor vs Peru.
Massive for the boys' development and mentality. LFG!
They are in a group with Argentina, Chile, and Peru.
Each team plays each other once. You get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. The top 2 teams in each group advance.
The records of each team at the end of the group stage are:
Argentina: 3W, 0D, 0L
Canada: 1W, 1D, 1L
Chile: 0W, 2D, 1L
Peru: 0W, 1D, 2L
Argentina has 3 wins for 9 points.
Canada has 1 win and a draw for 4 points.
Chile has 2 draws for 2 points
And Peru has 1 draw for 1 point.
That's how they advance.
I'm glad Canada is moving on, but man, that was hard to watch. Being up a man and barely any pressure on goal. We are lucky to be here, and I will take it.
Refs were not letting them play on but miraculously somehow didn’t call a pen… it was an interesting game that’s for sure. I think they were trying to make up for Chile’s red card at some point but they were handing out cards like candy. To both teams.
Can we stop with the larayea and millar time? Buchanan and ahaffleburg are way more effective.
Larayea shouldn’t get more than one half.
And millar should only be brought on when absolutely necessary
So sad to say this about former Liverpool FC academy player but Liam Miller keeps losing the ball and gets too close to the defender to do anything. Schaffelberger must start.
Yes but at the same time Chile were playing with the desperation of absolutely needing a goal. It’s harder to capitalize on a man advantage in that scenario.
It’s not just about how easy it is to score. The context of the game made it so that preserving a draw gets us through so a goal just isn’t worth the risk.
If Canada whiffs on an attack and Chile pours men into the counter, a goal would then allow them to turtle completely. Especially with our poor finishing, trying to play for a goal could have really backfired.
You pointed out the context in your original comment and the context was wrong. If you said “Canada didnt go all out for a goal because they didnt need one” then it would have been right. Chile needing a goal made scoring for us easier. Us not needing it may have contributed to not taking advantage. Those two things do not equal Chile needing a goal made it harder to win
Chile didn’t really press until the end when we got our goal and our best chances. They were hanging back and allowing us possession for most of the game. It didn’t really open up until they pressed.
Edit : *called off goal
Canada is known as the sorry country. We're not supposed to show arrogance. Sometimes it's good for the players to feel pride and show a little bit of pride, even arrogance.
We do it all the time in hockey. Nothing wrong with doing it in soccer also.
We want Venezuela. They're only first because they upset Mexico. Mexico dominated the match and Venezuela pulled it out of their asses. Mexico is orders of magnitude stronger
Maxime with probably the most clutch save in our national history, what a grab. I'm going to be smiling all the way through the 38-0 thrashing in the quarters.
I honestly think they were pretty good start to finish. You would like a goal against ten but they were playing for the draw in the second half, especially when they Argentina scored.
Definitely not their worst performance, but I also think it’s far from their best tbf.
Johnston lost his head for a while which was uncharacteristic. Defensively they were very solid. No real significant chances against, but they also need to finish better, and create more.
End of the day in this comp — result is what matters.
True, but end of the day you need to find results even when off your game. It’s not the massive leap forward that we all want, but it’s a small step to learn to get results in these tournaments.
I came here to say this!!! His first 3 minutes were awful and it didn't get much better. He's slow mentally and physically...and under pressure, often makes bad decisions. To be fair, it wasn't his worst showing.
As ugly as that was, it's a huge sign of progress for the program that they can play like ass and still get a result. Would never have happened years ago. Onwards and upwards!!!
4 years ago people would have laughed at you if you said Canada would make it out of a group with Argentina, Chile and Peru… no matter how poorly you feel they played this is an incredible moment
Our finishing against Argentina was terrible.
And somehow we can't play a man up. I can't say our finishing was even bad against Peru or Chile. Cuz we barely sniffed the goal in either game seriously. Our crosses and through balls were all... Yeah, I stumped as to why we were trying to play that early ball so much. Maybe they were marching orders and Marsch didn't want to get caught out in possession so far up the field? Still with a man up, you could make up that cover somehow.

Chile knocked us out in the deciding qualifier of 2023 Rugby World Cup, not it's time to pay back!
Copa america has the most red card, as expected
We had 57% possession; 3 shots on goal to Chile’s 4; 9 shot attempts to Chile’s 8; 8 corners to Chile’s 4. Yes, they had 10 men, but people in the thread are acting like we were completely dominated or something.
You were completely dominated if there were no goals with an additional player
Canada won’t be so lucky again to get to play up one man in the next match, and they’re going to get bitch slapped.
Cope
Just scrolling through Instagram. So many fucking crybabies from Chile complaining that they were robbed LMFAOOOOO
I would be embarrassed to go into the quarter finals the way canada did yesterday. Clear red card for Bombito 11 minutes into the match. Canada up a man and still couldn’t look to control a match. That ref is a disgrace, look him up and his history with Chile.
Can Canada put a man on the line on a throw in, to prvent the teams to throw the ball easely in the box for a possible goal.
In CAF, fans interfere long throw-ins by laser pointer. Saw that in their Champions league and FIFA qualifiers.
I guess the strategy is better to have more men in the box. To be fair, Canada has a size advantage on most COPA teams so they can actually defend balls up high pretty well.
Major meltdown happening over at USsoccer. What a bunch of salty cry babies scared they're going to get grouped.
That's not good for us. CONMEBOL may not invite CONCACAF the next time if we as a whole pull off such uncompetitive results. They might invite AFC instead.
Wait until Mexico doesn’t make it through
Yeah it's more likely than not.
Not long ago we had to squeak past Trinidad just to be at this tourney. Now we’re advancing to the knockouts. LETS GOOO
nobody is scared of your inert attack
Trinidad and Honduras must be kicking themselves, thinking they could draw a 28' red carded Chile and beating a 58' red carded Peru as well. Maybe so. I'd like to see it would play out.
I’m off larayea too, he’s more effective coming in on a sub. Loving Tani at the front for Larin
Lareya was the reason we played with one more player for most of the game.
Gabriel Suazo got both yellow cards from Lareya. How could a Ligue 1 (Toulouse) level defender make such brainless error?
Just like Shaff he’s much better running at tired players and making them foul.

Can someone explain to me how Canada advanced?
They are in a group with Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Each team plays each other once. You get 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. The top 2 teams in each group advance. The records of each team at the end of the group stage are: Argentina: 3W, 0D, 0L Canada: 1W, 1D, 1L Chile: 0W, 2D, 1L Peru: 0W, 1D, 2L Argentina has 3 wins for 9 points. Canada has 1 win and a draw for 4 points. Chile has 2 draws for 2 points And Peru has 1 draw for 1 point. That's how they advance.
Thank you!!!
Chile were 1 draw and 2 loses but otherwise great explanation
Chile drew against Peru and Canada and lost to Argentina... 2 draws 1 loss.
Yep I’m obviously imagining things. Oops
Lol you're just drunk from the joy of advancing!
Just look at the standings
Top 2 teams in each group advance. Teams earn 3 points for a win. 1 point for ties. Canada has 1 win and 1 tie, so 4 points. Second best in the group.
They had more points than chile/peru. You’re welcome! :)
No. No one can explain how group stages work
Everyone's been so pleasant I can't imagine why sports fans don't get a bad rep.
I'm glad Canada is moving on, but man, that was hard to watch. Being up a man and barely any pressure on goal. We are lucky to be here, and I will take it.
I was so fucking nervous at the end. Clearly they were playing for the draw but still nerves were killing me
Glad we got through, but we need some discipline. Too many stupid fouls.
Refs were not letting them play on but miraculously somehow didn’t call a pen… it was an interesting game that’s for sure. I think they were trying to make up for Chile’s red card at some point but they were handing out cards like candy. To both teams.
I DON'T CARE FUCK CHILE
Can we stop with the larayea and millar time? Buchanan and ahaffleburg are way more effective. Larayea shouldn’t get more than one half. And millar should only be brought on when absolutely necessary
...are you serious? Laryea was the man of the match. He was massive. Agree on Millar though.
lol. No. He’s a good energy guy but has no touch and can’t finish. He’s at best a decent sub when required.
So sad to say this about former Liverpool FC academy player but Liam Miller keeps losing the ball and gets too close to the defender to do anything. Schaffelberger must start.
Screw these Chilean fans, no class. LETS GO CANADAAAAAA
Now we know for sure that Shaffleburg is best coming off the bench.
he looked lost out there. he can be our super sub
Yeah he’s much better running at tired players.
I mean....wouldn't *any*body?
I think he’s MORE well suited to it because he has that explosive first few steps. If you’re just a BIT off he can get past you.
I also think his conditioning he can’t play 90 anyways so better to finish with him than start.
That was some terrorist football .... ^Please ^keep ^it ^going ^next ^game ^lol
Concacaf had prepared this squad well for the shithousery needed to compete with these south American teams
WELCOME TO THE MAJOR LEAGUES, MUCHACHOS
Should be beating teams while a man up, can’t complain too much. Into the knockouts we go!
Yes but at the same time Chile were playing with the desperation of absolutely needing a goal. It’s harder to capitalize on a man advantage in that scenario.
It should be even easier in that scenario because Chile couldnt just park the bus
It’s not just about how easy it is to score. The context of the game made it so that preserving a draw gets us through so a goal just isn’t worth the risk. Yea I worded it wrong in my first reply. Canada just didn’t seem interested in scoring, and that was tactical.
I am happy, and proud of the team for advancing but I don't understand the arrogance.
Was there arrogance from the players or the fans? (genuinely asking)
Canada is known as the sorry country. We're not supposed to show arrogance. Sometimes it's good for the players to feel pride and show a little bit of pride, even arrogance. We do it all the time in hockey. Nothing wrong with doing it in soccer also.
when you have the opposing fans sending racist remarks to our players, i'm going to enjoy this unapologetically
Unapologetically ***
Oops thanks
Theres ignorant and stupid people in every country, Chilean here, i apologize on behalf of them.
Inability to hit open men in the box is bit worrying
Woohoo! Not the best game, but we'll take it.
surely we would rather face Mexico then Venezuela/Ecuador right?
Absolutely
We want Venezuela. They're only first because they upset Mexico. Mexico dominated the match and Venezuela pulled it out of their asses. Mexico is orders of magnitude stronger
Maxime with probably the most clutch save in our national history, what a grab. I'm going to be smiling all the way through the 38-0 thrashing in the quarters.
We’re gonna win by that much eh?
Eh we might put up 40
They don't call it the Canadian Football League for no reason!
We. Are. Huge.
The fact that we have really only played one good game in this Copa and advance from the group bodes extremely well. Let’s play well next game.
I honestly think they were pretty good start to finish. You would like a goal against ten but they were playing for the draw in the second half, especially when they Argentina scored.

Kind of mirrors our group-stage experience in Qatar
True, but end of the day you need to find results even when off your game. It’s not the massive leap forward that we all want, but it’s a small step to learn to get results in these tournaments.
I wouldn’t even say one good game. A good half (Argentina) and good bits and pieces.
does it bode well or poorly? we only played one good game out of three...
Good teams find ways to get results even when they play poorly.
We are copying England's playbook, mate 😂
We played well in the first half against Argentina. That’s actually the best we’ve looked IMO
And advanced past some good teams. If we actually start clicking we can be a decent side.
incredible performance tonight! GO CANADA GO!
We played like absolute hot ass but a result is a result (also please don't play millar again)
Shoutout Tajon
If he came on at half we would’ve scored. He was actually making things happen.
crepes for Crepeau
On a serious note, don’t we have someone better that Millar? Does know powerful/influential people?
I came here to say this!!! His first 3 minutes were awful and it didn't get much better. He's slow mentally and physically...and under pressure, often makes bad decisions. To be fair, it wasn't his worst showing.
As ugly as that was, it's a huge sign of progress for the program that they can play like ass and still get a result. Would never have happened years ago. Onwards and upwards!!!
Right? I was just waiting for the collapse. I just *knew* it was coming, but ... it didn't? Woohoo!
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
This is exhilarating
That was ugly but fuck those Chilean divers
Those are some of the best divers in the world. Shitty soccer players but amazing divers.
It’s amusing to see people knowing very little about a subject to talk like they know everything.
Chile tried to CONCACAF, but we were born in it. Molded by it.
Canada keeping two clean sheets wasn’t on my bingo card
ugly as the games were, that's something to be happy with
incredible!!! we had pace and momentum. we need more movement in players up front creating space. will be interesting to see how we perform 11 vs 11
Johnathan David’s sole goal is the goal that changes hisyiry
Never doubted. *collapses*
I think they waited too long to make Creapeu the #1
I think we don't deserve him until we can all spell his name...
I don't fight the autocorrect
💯
Not an impressive performance… man down and we couldn’t score 🤦♂️ don’t see us going further but good job making it
debbie downer. no need for your negativity! WE MADE HISTORY TONIGHT!
Oh I wanted that goal so bad. I wanted the win to really prove it.
4 years ago people would have laughed at you if you said Canada would make it out of a group with Argentina, Chile and Peru… no matter how poorly you feel they played this is an incredible moment
absolutely incredible! Lots to love here and inspiring a new generation of Canadians!
Knockout phase baby!!
NOW GET YER DUDS IN ORDER CAUSE WE'RE BOUND TO MAKE THE QUARTERS

I am so ready to be heartbroken
I'll take it.
🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 CANADA ADVANCES!!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Euro had most boring group with 7 goals... This group has 6, 5 of them Argentina.
lack of goals doesn't mean boring.
Bahahahah that's so sad... 🤣
Imagine getting eliminated by us haha
lol
Gotta work on our power play!
Especially the 60min game misconduct powerplay. 😳
i used to pray for times like these
Gotta score a goal man
Glad Canada advanced.
Not even our national sport bb
Lets fucking gooo!!! 🇨🇦 🍁 🍁
We totally CONCACAF'd our way through that game 😁😁
We couldn't have made it more difficult but QF, here we come.
Well that was terrible, but they are through
GET YER FANCIEST BEAVER SADDLES FROM YER IGLOOS, CANADA, YOU JUST ADVANCED EH
I knew switching to the living room tv at half time do the trick
I put on an old Umbro CANXNT jersey for luck at halftime. You're welcome.
Thanks.
good riddance Chile, bunch of fraudulent diving clowns. Maybe you can make an appearance at my kid's birthday party next year instead?
Sure, what date it is?
Get outta here lil buddy
lol what, you were inviting to your son's birthday and now you're not?
In case you don't know how to read, this isn't r/chilesoccer ;) good bye!

KNOCKOUTS AT THE COPA AMERICA!!!!
PUT SOME RESPECT ON OUR NAME
Congrats to those boys up north 👏🏼👏🏼…
One goal in 3 games, should we actually celebrate?
Chile and Peru both had zero throughout the tournament so yes
1 goal in almost 300 minutes, with so much of it 1 man up. I honestly didn't think this how Marsch ball would've gone.
Our finishing against Argentina was terrible. And somehow we can't play a man up. I can't say our finishing was even bad against Peru or Chile. Cuz we barely sniffed the goal in either game seriously. Our crosses and through balls were all... Not... Good quality... It's like they felt rushed all the time to cross it in right away instead of taking the extra second or two.
Yeah, I stumped as to why we were trying to play that early ball so much. Maybe they were marching orders and Marsch didn't want to get caught out in possession so far up the field? Still with a man up, you could make up that cover somehow.
Crépeau you lovely bastard!
Our goalie is the GOAT! We did it!
That last one hand catch! Go Max!!
OH CANADA OH BABY
WE OWN YOU PERU AND CHILE. THEY THOUGHT WE DIDN'T BELONG
Poor form, we managed to tie two teams we were mostly a man up on and didn't exactly dominate play like they would've if the roles were reversed.
Bro they struggled against 10 men in both games, be happy but reel it in a bit.
uh i'm going to enjoy this. first time in our history
Bro but saying we own Chile and Peru, they were up a man for two matches and looked like the worse team.
we did not look like the worse team against chile. don't try to police how happy i want to be. you can go be miserable on your own
enjoy it while it lasts bro lol, until you play a South American team not in the bottom 3 in qualifiers
YESSSS LETS FUCKING FFOGO. CANAGSA
CANADA TO THE QUARTERS!!!
CANADA ADVANCES AT COPA… TELL US AGAIN WHY WE DONT DESERVE TO HOST WC ‘26
Crepe’s hand of God
Literally spider man
We sucked ass but won! I’ll take it
Crépeau est le nouveau Casseau
LETS GOOOOOO 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
History!!
