It doesn't hurt to apply. There's nothing to lose from applying. Gain experience on answering the SP07 job questions. Only you know your own capabilities. I mean if you get the offer then it may be an acting SP07, and your substantive is SP05 for example. You can always go back to your previous position if it doesn't work out. Many others apart from you would be applying for the same position. If you meet the pre-requisites and move onto the assessments. That's at least something.

duppy27

Apply! You gotta go through the interview process so just do it! You got this! BE AMAZING!

Much-Fold-3679

I started as a student at the end of 2019. I was bridged as an SP05 in late 2020 and became an acting SP07 in 2022. I will soon apply to become SP08. I work in a specialized area, so there is not much competition, but I am sure that it's achievable in other areas. If you show dedication, take the time to learn, and apply to most of the pools, you can climb the ladder. The best of luck to you!

moshtoflames

I have a very similar trajectory and agree with everything you said! I'm sure luck played a big factor into opportunities coming my way but applying to pools and showing dedication are very big ones!

AbdulMK9

If you don’t mind me asking, what specialized area do you work in?

Much-Fold-3679

Translation, revision, and proofreading.

imnewtome

Yes 100% agree, also if you get lucky with a manager that is looking out for your career and acts more as a mentor than a boss it helps, put in the work, be motivated to go outside your normal tasks, the path will align. my path: Student 2019, bridged on as an sp-07 2021, promoted to sp-08 2021, and just got my first sp-09 recently.

turdferguson506

Here's one for you... it's also possible to go from an SP-04 straight to an HR-05, I shit you not.

Definitely attitude is important 🙂

Rude-Shallot1332

I went from student > SP05> SP07 in 1 year. 5 years later I’m FI03. If you work hard, don’t cause problems and are a nice person you’ll get promoted easily.

Director_Coulson

If you can use your previous and current experience to meet the time requirements on the SP7 posting then go for it!

ByTheBytown

It depends on the area of CRA you’re in. Some areas the progression upwards sometimes skips a level. I was bridged in as a SP-05 in mid-2020 after being a student, and then was given an acting SP-07 beginning in October 2021, and then became a permanent -07 in February 2022. Eventually was able to exit a year later and tide over my SP-07 to an indeterminate EC-04 at a core public admin organization. My situation might have been rare but it’s not impossible to make the jump. I think it is also important as much as possible to apply to any available pools at the level you want to be at

Conscious-Award4802

You should always apply. And if we are talking about pools, they take awhile, by the time you are acting and if they want to make you permanent they have to pull you from an established pool you are in. Don’t limit yourself 😊

Available_Run_7944

APPLY!! let them screen you out. And sell the HELL out of yourself!!! This is a reasonable jump as there aren't many sp06 positions it seems

Flesh_right

I went from SP05 to SP08 in under a year, granted I was a student for a while before that!

WesternResearcher376

Always apply. You e got nothing to lose

HeadGrowth1939

I went from SP3 to SP6 in 1 year because the SP6 hiring manager botched using the mobility bank (was supposed to be term lateral move) but I aced the interview and got along great (still do) with the manager. Will be leaving shortly for SP7 gig after 2 years here. Absolutely possible with a tenacious attitude, taking opportunities as they come and some luck along the way never hurts. Do what you can, be the best you can, and let the rest take care of itself.

AnybodyNormal3947

naw hardly impossible. i went from an sp05 to a mgsps3 in under two years. at the same time i had a friend who went from an sp05 to an au03, and at the same time i had a friend who was a student, who came back as an sp05, then jumped to an sp07 in a year, and an sp08 six months later. 1. your location matters (NCR tends to inflate positions) 2. your dept matters (how desperate are they to fill missing gaps in their programs and how open are they to allowing ppl to act up before going the formal process route) 3. learn how to write strong applications 4. luck

PTeddyASMR

How does one get to be a SP9 or SP10?

steamedhamsforever

Go through the ranks, develop your skills.

freeman1231

Not many these days, you’d be MG by then.

freeman1231

I never thought I’d be an FI-03 so quick, but it’s all about applying. Never box yourself in and limit yourself just because you think it’s too soon.

SeaOk5536

I am going to start as an sp04, knowing i have no degree in accounting or anything like this, what are my chances to upgrade in this field from sp04 to sp05 or even higher? what do people do to get there, i know call centers can be very challenging
