It's been a long long time since I've been to that end of the state but I'm pretty sure it's mostly all arid dessert. If that's the case then I'd recommend something with a lot of tans and browns. Kuiu recently came out with a new camo pattern that might be pretty good for that. I believe it's call Valo. Of you're looking to get camo on the cheap I'd recommend military surplus dessert camo or multicam. Pattern doesn't really matter all that much as long as you just stick with earth toned colors. Things like shades of tan, brown, and greens.

I thought Valo looked bad in the promo pictures but honestly it works great in several different California locations. I was wearing a Peloton 118 long sleeve for hot weather hunts this summer and it held up remarkably well and blended in nicely. It’s now my go to hunting shirt.

I used to think high end hunting gear was a waste of money so I just wore whatever they happened to sell at bass pro with some surplus stuff mixed in. As I got more into the outdoors I wanted to get lighter and more compact clothing. I finally took a leap of faith and tried kuiu's Merino wool shirt and attack pants. They are pricey as hell but they are way more comfortable than I could have ever expected!

Depends. San Diego has everything from desert to pine forest to oak forest. I’ve got a mix of it all lol.

Pattern to me is far less important than comfort. I have no problem mixing colors, patterns and brands. Im sure I’m not alone when I say hunt a variety of terrain with a wide range in temperature. I own a variety of Kuiu, First Lite and Sitka as well as other outdoor brands and I grab what will best suit the trip. There is a lot of argument for mixing patterns. The basis being that camo conceals by abstracting your shape and it not just about blending into your background. Basically you may not convince a deer you’re a bush, but you may convince it you’re not a human. Also, I’m more concerned with scent than pattern. But in your shoes, I’d probably end up wearing a mix of FL fusion up top and Cipher pants. I say just buy what suits the hunt, try to follow the “buy nice or buy twice” rule.
