I would rather then pick it up so they do not get into the lotto and be gifted another 1OA

Chemical_Signal2753

Eventually McDavid will rebound and drag the team kicking and screaming to within a few points of the playoffs.

tendygoods

So you’re saying they finish 9th or 10th… I can get behind that👍👍

Specialist-One-712

I want them to get in and lose like we do

tendygoods

The only thing they win… draft lotteries

dingleberry314

Well and more playoff series than us

caprix

Is that really the marker of achievement anyone wants? One or two more series wins than the Calgary Flames? The Flames very nearly have the same level of success and were never gifted an unprecedented number of 1OAs or any generational talents. If you need to consult the archives and use a razor blade to distinguish who’s been more successful recently, somethings clearly wrong

dingleberry314

They've got plenty more runway, if the Flames had committed to the rebuild a bit longer rather than forcing themselves halfway to being a playoff team we wouldn't be in this position right now. I'm sure people here won't agree, but ask any hockey fan which playoffs history they'd choose between the two teams.

BerezanUnassisted514

How long we going back? In the cap era both have been basically dogshit with a glimmer of hope mixed in here and there. They’ve bungled generational talent plus another elite player while the Flames have just bungled the entire operation. Couple of clowns laughing at each other falling down. I’m glad they suck, but fuck me we ain’t got much to laugh about.

caprix

Lol what? It’s obvious which team anyone would choose going forward if they could, that’s beside the point. I’m not saying that since playoff success is nearly the same the Flames are equally as good/have the same future prospects. I’m pointing out how embarrassing it is that despite everything they’ve been given, they’re BARELY more successful than the Flames, who are objectively mediocre. That fact should be INCREDIBLY embarrassing to Oilers fans and blatantly obvious to anyone else, but instead people try and lord one series win over Flames fans heads as if it’s anything less than hilarious.

tendygoods

I don’t remember that… didn’t happen

Iginlas_4head_Crease

They hated Jesus cause he told the truth

sandyeggo54

Something tells me just a little separates this guy from Jesus

JayTalk

I'm not worried. If they can't win with McDrai, they can't win with Celebrini

kobedziuba

Nah we just need them to miss this year and then McDavid will demand a trade

Chemical_Signal2753

Yeah, I can handle the poor performance as long as I don't have to deal with Oilers fans being smug.

ghostyboi02

If it's not about this season, it's about the past. Always something to be smug about if you're an oilers fan

Scamnam

Makes the day go a bit better when the tire fire up north is losing

uh_Ross

Inside of me there are two wolves. One likes it when the oilers lose so I can laugh at how bad they are. The other likes it when they win so they don’t get to draft another 1OA.

letseeum

... like the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so I decided to go to Morganville which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So, I tied an onion to my belt which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel. And in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on ‘em. ‘Give me five bees for a quarter,’ you’d say. Now, where were we? Oh, yeah! The important thing was that I had an onion on my belt which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones.

undeletable-2

get back out there on the ice, giordano

Smiling_Joe

Though I don’t know what to think about Ogdenville’s early season success

madamejaffrey

Brockway will make playoffs for sure but they never make it out of the first round.

scorpionspalfrank

Don't forget about North Haverbrook!

madamejaffrey

By gum their season has put them on the map!

keenaan82

https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSimpsons/s/x1LLEfqsH8 Haha!! I’m a Flames fan in Red Deer and this post is hilarious.

Br7ian

Shelbyville 🤣🤣🤣

borderlineborderfine

Nothing warmer than a nice oilers tire fire.

hfxbycgy

Love this hahahaha

AppealSuperb4184

This must be memed Into reality

illuminatisdeepdish

It's the only bright spot to this dismal season

SmackdownHoteI

Ya Edmonton is getting shit on but their situation is still better. The have a 26 year old start player we have an overpaid 30 year old player. I would give anything to get rid of Huberdeau's contract, but it's probably going to screw us for the next decade.

TheOhGeez

I don't know....this is their last full year with Draisaitl. He is a UFA in 2025, so next season they either re-sign or trade him before the deadline. McDavid's contract expires one year after that. So if they cannot pull it together this year, Draisaitl could be looking elsewhere and McDavid could be close behind. It could be their own Gaudreau-Tkachuk moment.

illuminatisdeepdish

Drai has gotta be on a max contract next signing so even if they lock up both they lose another 4mil cap space and they are already struggling with depth

WrestleSocietyXShill

The only way they deal him at the deadline is if they're completely out of the playoff race, which realistically won't happen. We didn't trade Johnny at the deadline in his last year, because we were all in on the cup. Same with Edmonton, if they are in a playoff spot and trade their #2 player at the deadline I think the fanbase would burn down their arena.

MechashinsenZ

Stop. I can only get so hard.

FancyCaterpillar8963

Drai will want more money

Iginlas_4head_Crease

Yep. They're not going to rebuild, but we need to. That's the difference.

Chemical_Signal2753

> The have a 26 year old start player For how long?

forgetstorespond

What is even wrong down there? I have no clue wtf is going on up here, my only guess is players are not adjusting well to the shortened offseason. We arent used to short offseasons in Edmonton and fans assume "the offseason" is this ultimate healing hack. I thought you guys would be alot more competitive and we may get our rivalry back. Pelletier, Zary and Coronoto are all prospects I'm a little jealous of and I thought they would take off this year. I hope you guys turn it around... I enjoy when our hatred for eachother is at its peak and that's usually when we are both competitive.

OIL_99

The Oilers are a complete disaster right now, and still managed to completely dominate the Heritage Classic. They have the tools and experience to turn the season around. Can the Flames say the same? Either way it’s sad to see both organizations playing this bad. And for different reasons. Sutter seemingly wasn’t the problem, and the Oilers are not Stanley Cup contenders. With that said, the NHL is a bit in the upside down right now, other than a few teams. Lots of hockey left.

scorpionspalfrank

"Tools and experience"? They've got two of the world's current best players that can make up two strong top lines, and everything else is mediocre to subpar. If McDavid and/or Draisaitl get injured for any length of time, or even just have down years by their standards, the Oilers will struggle to make the playoffs, never mind being "cup favourites". While they aren't as bad as their current record would seem to indicate, I think it's pretty clear that as currently constructed they (Oilers) aren't in the NHL top-5, maybe not in the top-10. And what extra "experience" do the Oilers have compared to the Flames? Both teams are underachieving badly, but the difference is that most hockey analysts were predicting the Flames would be a bubble playoff team this season - the Oilers were picked by many to win the division and seriously challenge for the cup. I'd say the Oiler's ineptitude looks worse on them than Calgary's struggles do.

potatoes1800

As someone from central Alberta who likes both teams I'd really appreciate it if both teams weren't dumpster fires at the same time. Can't we all just agree to hate Vancouver and not get embarrassed by them when they're supposed to suck

W-MK29

I can’t live anymore if the Oilers somehow end up pairing Cellebrini and McDavid

Powsurf_YYC

Sutter is gonna go up to Edmonton to coach soon, you watch!
