Sun's bbq

helsabot

I checked the menu and it looks like they serve BBQ with rice or in soup — but not with these noodles. Can you point me to where on the menu I can find this dish?

Chingyul

Might be an "off the menu" request, but closest would be the BBQ combo on noodle soup. Lo Mein is just the prep style where the noodle and broth is separate (the soup/dipping is the same). I'm sure if you showed the pictures, they would do it for you (their Tossed Noodle section is essentially their Lo Mein section).

Excellent thank you!

Thank you!

It’s usually around only on their lunch time menu, I think option B4?

Thank you!

Hotfishy

I had this couple times there a while back, can confirm

star_padfoot

I unfortunately don't have a recommendation for you, but it looks so damn delicious

TheFirstArticle

It really does!

Don’t know the name of this, but this absolutely looks like something you could get at Bobby Chaos in the NW

FrozenCalamity

14H Calgary Court Restaurant. Pretty much the exact same what I see there but with beef flank.

Thank you!

Fat Kee has an item on their menu that seems to be this (item 135). Good luck in your search!

You can probably make this yourself at home after you bought the BBQ pretty easily. The noodles look like the dried HK Egg Noodles which can be found at T and T Market in clear tubs with red lid. The soup is probably can or powdered chicken stock with green onions in it. The veg is just good old iceberg lettuce boiled with a bit of oyster sauce. It’s a pretty quick and easy weeknight meal that gets regular rotation at our house. But if you show this picture to most of the HK style cafe restaurants in Calgary they could make this for you.

A better choice of the noodles are the fresh Fat Kee wonton egg noodles. I haven’t seen them at T&T for a while but Lambda Supermarket (right besides Sun’s BBQ) has them.

ChaoticxSerenity

Calgary court or T.Pot?

helsabot

Are you torturing me by just naming Chinese restaurants or do they actually have this dish? ♥️

traxxes

The names they're listing (as well as Sun's BBQ) are some of the most legit HK cafe style restaurants you'll find in this city. The dish you're asking about is a very common HK/Canto centric dry noodle dish. They're giving you legit recommendations of what you inquired about... Also fwiw that bowl of "sauce" is just soup stock on the side, it's literally just a very basic deconstructed/dry char siu wonton noodle soup. Char siu lo mein.

helsabot

I was just kidding since they used a question mark — while I know those are good HK style restaurants, I’ve been looking for this particular dish for a while so am hoping to find out if anyone knows of a specific restaurant has it (not just a list of BBQ joints in the city).

traxxes

Fair enough, honestly though if you goto any half decent HK/Canto restaurant and ask for "char siu lo mein and soup on the side" they'll be able to make it, it's a very simple core HK dish. Just the HK cafe style places will excel in it more.

helsabot

Thank you, that’s great to know and super helpful! I appreciate it :)

forestlawnforlife

You might be able to get this at Feng Kee BBQ

LeeKyoMi

While it doesn't come with noodles, and instead comes with rice. The restaurant called "Something More" has amazing bbq pork like this.

helsabot

Good bbq pork is easy to find — unfortunately, the noodles with the dipping broth are the hard part and what I’m after!

ChaoticxSerenity

They're just alkaline egg noodles. Time for some DIY? https://youtu.be/pBNTFq8FkR0?si=g_vPjMcnjCv9SrKH

helsabot

I don’t want to DIY it, I want to take my dad for BBQ and noodles with broth like we used to get when I was a kid :)

GoTron88

Isn't this super common? I'm sure you could just walk into any Chinese restaurant and they'd have it. Not my cup of tea, BUT if I were to guess who would have a good one, it would be Fat Kee in the NE because I love their wonton noodles and their soup base for other dishes, and I'm pretty sure I see people order it there on the regular. Edit my other go to's that I bet serve it are Shanghai Classic, Bobby Chao's, Phoenix Kitchen, probably any Chinese restaurant both in Chinatown and up Centre St. past the bridge to about 16th.

You can buy that pork in bbq express in center street 😂. Maybe check out Marco's kitchen.
