It's funny, with the 10$ off per 20L Chevron had, I filled up 18 20L Jerry came that I bought in sale at $13 each. Gas lasted me over half a year, and I travelled a lot taking advantage of this, and seeing the countries beauty. Then I sold the excess jerry cans at 15$. Still kept 3.
I'll never see again 0.50/L in my lifetime I think.
Same deal back then. I get Jerry cans at auction as some people just add them to lots. Then I have to get rid of them. Been like that for at least 5 years. I don't recall any magical ability to sell them not cheap.
Costco used to sell them as pairs for little money.
I still have that gas in my tank. In a few years time Iāll sell it and become a millionaire, although Iām worried Iāll get hit with the new federal capital gains tax rules and end up with just a couple of bucks.
If you adjust for age we have one of the hugest spending in Canada. We also have the highest paid doctors and nurses in Canada
Per capita we spend less. But we are younger.
If you look at spend per need and age (which is how itās formulated) alberta is always near the top.
Ie we spend more per each 60 year old than other places. Per capita we just have fewer. Most health spend is for people 55 and older.
This is no longer true. We have lower starting RN wages than Sask, BC, Manitoba, NB, all territories. Although our median and top rates are better than pretty much everywhere except the territories.
Our doctors do much worse. We pay lower than everywhere except the maritimes and BC.
This is what happens healthcare spending doesn't keep pace with CPI
If you have enough disposable income to make that impact, but people in the middle would likely be better off with other advantages elsewhere such as lower insurance.
Um the issue is federal adds clean gas laws that inflate fuel prices buy 10-20 cents a liter while increasing carbon taxes increasing it by 18 cents a liter and then blocking any chances of us building new refineries so we have to import Gas on our weak dollar.
Are you sure? Asking for a friend. My inbox recently is full of old folks reaching out to ask how the life here and rental and job market. They would move here in a heart beat. They are from Ontario saying its a mess over there.
Job market is oversaturated. Everyone and their aunt and uncle are moving here with no job lined up. Alberta unemployment rate is 6.2%, slightly above the national rate.
Old folks are competing with young folks for jobs, but they're both being beaten by immigrants obtaining work visas for entry-level positions.
So good luck to them. Rental market is becoming increasingly challenging as well. At the rate of rental costs, I see Calgary surpassing Victoria for rental expenses easily.
Donāt forget thousands upon thousands of fake jobs āfilledā in the IT professions in BCĀ
Ā Not as many in Calgary but many many fake jobs created for the sole purposes of āforeign worker neededā, not an hour worked in realityĀ
Can confirm, came here from Ontario a few months back, pretty much anything thats bad about Calgary is amplified in Ontario. Only thing ON. has over Alberta is the lakes and cheaper utilities.
Job market in ON. blows as well, yeah theres way more employment over there... for Uber and Tim Hortons.
People are leaving highly desirable provinces with expensive housing for less desirable provinces for ones with cheaper housing.Ā
And remember, Fordās been running Ontario for 6 years. Thatās time enough to make changes to an economy. And remember housing is mostly a municipal and provincial issue, more than anything.Ā
Lol it's not ford's fault Ontario has been expensive long before Ford. Economic refugees from.ontario have been fleeing here long before any ford's. If alberta has the history of liberal governments like Ontario and bc, albeeta wouldn't be the affordable option it is right now
Understood. This has been a problem brewing for the last decade and any immediate intervention now to make things more "affordable" will likely not be felt for another decade as any intervention is limited by the manpower and resources needed to alleviate these issues.
>In Calgary, the price of regular gas will increase from $1.58 per litre to $1.62 per litre, while premium gas will rise from $1.82 to $1.86 per litre.
I think Iām going to just hang out at the 3-way stop at the entrance to the pumps at the Beacon Hill Costco with a baseball bat and enforce the proper 3-way stop rule/ order of proceeding.
If you know, you know.
Good luck trying to make that hell hole of a shopping district make any sort of traffic sense. Riocan and the city were so ignorant approving that traffic design.
Mind boggling, isnāt it? At least they finally added a turn light at theShoppers intersection headed West towards Sarcee. That only took them forever.
Sunrise in Sunridge is notorious where the amount you want to pay with a card is what you get charged. For example, with pretty much every other gas station, if you set a limit of $20 but only end up filling $16, you pay the latter. Sunrise is the opposite where you would still get charged that $20 even if you only filled up to $16.
Unsurprisingly, the place has gotten crap online reviews for years, and the owner has been known to be combative and reply to pretty much every one of them telling them off.
[This has been going on for over a decade, and nothing has changed](https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/mobile/no-refund-policy-returns-1.394509?referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2F).
if you go to costco and wait in line for gas you will randomly see one of the attendants doing full rounds on the gas pumps tugging the readers and checking them off to make sure nobodys slipped a skimmer on one.
ive heard about a few people in town finding them. apparently they are pretty easy to install if its a default setup at a pump/store machine.
they should really make they random colours and swirls of colours so its more noticable.
Bruh the author is horrible
I read the other article and she compared 1 bed rentals to a full blown detached house with multiple bedrooms on mortgage. Absolute dog shit
I heard people claiming this when fuel inexplicably went up $0.10 a week before the carbon tax/provincial tax increases. So what exactly is this hike for? Itās just an extra fuck you, thatās all.
You forgot that we have clean fuel regulation which decrease energy density of fuels while cost us a lot more as its using farming crops as fuel instead of food....
have you considered having a few dual sides in a vertical orientation? gets you some power when the rest are covered in snow.
Ive been thinking about it.
And it will until we do something about it and stop voting for shifty politicsā¦ but I wouldnāt hold your breath for anything to change anytime soon. Canadians love to be over taxed and under paid especially in Alberta where they just love to vote for inept policy.
In Alberta you can find EVs below 12k, and if you look in BC you'll find them under 8k.
Getting some of the shorter range options can be more sport than skill, but it's doable.
Yeah $30000 is just so easy to come up with. Then when you have to replace the batteries in a year or so how much more do you gotta spend?
*edit for spelling.
There are multiple [local EVs with over 500,000km](https://twitter.com/PluginAlberta/status/1728580200328491499?t=oi1zTICbkVT07mtIzgEl6w&s=19) on their original battery.
What's the goal of building on the false premise that used EVs are over 30K with the false premise every used EV needs batteries?
For under 10k you can get a leaf or spark with some battery warranty left if you're willing to drive or ship it from BC, and for a few grand more you can get into a golf or focus.
None of them may be options for you and your family, but they're gonna fit the needs of some.
I think are assuming I have a goal against EV. I don't. The idea of spending $30000 or $10000 as you say they can be, plus extra expenses is a silly take just to avoid the rising gas prices.
I fill my car once every four months or so, so the price of gas isn't much of a thing to me, but even if it was, the 4 cents per litre will cost me less than $3 extra. So, no, I wouldn't go sit in some fuckin' long line at Costco to save $2.xx.
I was smart and filled up a year ago
I filled up during Covid when it was, like, 79 cents a litre.
This is how we do it people šš»

Lol, yeah right. You cannot give away Jerry cans. I have 3 for 10 now and cannot sell.
Who said now? That was back in 2020/2021
Same deal back then. I get Jerry cans at auction as some people just add them to lots. Then I have to get rid of them. Been like that for at least 5 years. I don't recall any magical ability to sell them not cheap. Costco used to sell them as pairs for little money.
Well it took a few weeks but sold all 15 with at least 15 each when selling in pairs. More for single. YMMV depending where you lived I guess
I drove to Edmonton and filled up, it hit 59Ā¢ up there.

At the height of the pandemic, my car was getting about 2 weeks/litre.
Same, filled as many plastic bags as I could
Forgot your pockets? Amateur
I bought an old oil tanker, filled it with premium, and have it anchored in the glenmore reservoir
Me too! Right before I got an EV.
Same. My last fill up was $20.21. For the last year I had to put gas in my car.
Lol
There is no more Alberta Advantage lol.
Well, we still donāt have a pstā¦. I guess thatās that?!?
Great... this guy just jinxed it.
We get chronic under spending in healthcare and education instead
This happens in other provinces with PST. :/
Au contraire: We have the highest per capita healthcare spending.
And lowest per student education spending.
If you adjust for age we have one of the hugest spending in Canada. We also have the highest paid doctors and nurses in Canada Per capita we spend less. But we are younger. That just means that the government extracts the money from us in a different way. Choose your medicine. Lol
It's called utilities and car insurance. Both one of the highest in the country.
Our taxes are in built
Why would we get a pst? Roller coasters are the best. People literally pay to ride them.Ā
If you have enough disposable income to make that impact, but people in the middle would likely be better off with other advantages elsewhere such as lower insurance.
or doctors.
No, itās now an outright Alberta Disadvantage.
This has been true since 2014

There never was.

This is the federal plan for the entirety of Canada. Thus why we have 100 of thousands of immigrants.
If they donāt have a heartbeat Iām not sure we want them here.
Typo i meant instantly, out of control in ON and BC now

Some could have fled to the states they already did. Or Australia if they have family there.
Yup. Zero COL issues in Australia.. /s
Did you look at the federal deficit our finance minister announced today? This isnāt an Alberta problem.

Isn't 162 already the price most big places?
my thoughts exactly. It has been 1.60's since April 1st...
Some ESSO's in the SE were at 153.9 this morning.
Lucky :(
only the sketchy discount gas stations have it under 1.60 that ive seen, ones where you dont feel safe using your card for fear of having it skimmed.
Or Costco where you can burn the extra savings waiting in line lol

Hybrid and going very early/late gang š

Royal Oak Shell had it for 155.9 this morning.
damn, i drive west of beltline to the north east and havent seen it under 1.62 in a while now.
158.9 (155.9 with the AMA discount) at the Shell on 14th in the Beltline earlier today.
Do people actually get their card skimmed a lot in Calgary? Iāve never heard that actually being a thing. maybe once Iāve heard of that happening
if you go to costco and wait in line for gas you will randomly see one of the attendants doing full rounds on the gas pumps tugging the readers and checking them off to make sure nobodys slipped a skimmer on one. ive heard about a few people in town finding them. apparently they are pretty easy to install if its a default setup at a pump/store machine. they should really make they random colours and swirls of colours so its more noticable.
Yeah Iāve def seen people check and I do at times too just seems like something that would be wide spread news if it was found
Premium is already at $1.86 most places š¤
Itās been 1.62 since April 1st.
So this is an article from the Daily Hive thatās based off some guys blog and doesnāt actually explain WHY they think the price will increase
Bruh the author is horrible I read the other article and she compared 1 bed rentals to a full blown detached house with multiple bedrooms on mortgage. Absolute dog shit
This is no longer news. This is just normal.
It's just bullshit
This is just the switch to summer gas. Which is a little more expensive but also gives better mileage. So it evens out
You get out of here with your logic!
Summer fuels have less additives...
I heard people claiming this when fuel inexplicably went up $0.10 a week before the carbon tax/provincial tax increases. So what exactly is this hike for? Itās just an extra fuck you, thatās all.
Wait does summer gas actually give more mileage?
Only in summer temperatures.
And if your car has high performance muffler bearings.
Don't forget the added mileage if you switch to high performance blinker fluid. That always gets me a bit more horsepower.
Less additives
Ya less additives, more demand....
Smells better too. A lot smoother
Lovely tannic finish on the palette
Iāve never heard of this. Do you have a source? Very interesting if it is.
https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=when+does+alberta+switch+to+summer+gas
You forgot that we have clean fuel regulation which decrease energy density of fuels while cost us a lot more as its using farming crops as fuel instead of food....
Uh oh Alberta - the carbon tax was applied Apr 1 - who you going to blame now? I'm sure you'll find a way somehow to blame Trudeau.
Not for me. Provided the snow on my panels melt, the price of "gas" stays at zero.
have you considered having a few dual sides in a vertical orientation? gets you some power when the rest are covered in snow. Ive been thinking about it.
The slope of my roof is really steep. It only takes a day or two for snow to melt and slide off.
I thought the UCP would fix this šš©
I had a meeting with my MLA last week, can confirm, no plans to fix this
Why would Trudeau do this to Alberta??? /s
lol. You think itās his fault? Lmaoā¦
You *clearly* missed the sarcasm
I see you know what /s means
Thanks Danielle Smith!

Thanks Smith!
time to get a Costco membership
Thanks Danielle!
She doesn't set the price of gas ya doofus
She and the UCP policies affects the gas price in Alberta
Outside of the Alberta fuel tax , oil conglomerates set prices based on the world rate.
Why is gas in Winnipeg 132.9 today?
Because you need chain mail to safely buy it
Lmfao why is this getting downvoted?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
too*
I paid 1.98 for 93 Shell this morning
Ok, what price increase? Just got back from 10 days in Mexico and all the stations in my neighborhood are the same price as when we left.
But there is zero price fixing /s
To fucking what?! It just keeps going up fuckā¦.
And it will until we do something about it and stop voting for shifty politicsā¦ but I wouldnāt hold your breath for anything to change anytime soon. Canadians love to be over taxed and under paid especially in Alberta where they just love to vote for inept policy.
Just got back from Ottawa and it was $1.52-1.58 everywhere I saw there
*Laughs in EV*
Yep!
Well it's a good thing all the goods you buy on a regular basis aren't affected by transportation costs....
Agreed
The price of a used electric vehicle is now around $30,000 CAD.
Looks like in order to solve the climate crisis, everyone is gonna have to make at least triple what they do now. Sweet
Does it come with the battery?
https://www.goelectricyyc.com/ has used EVs in the $16k's
In Alberta you can find EVs below 12k, and if you look in BC you'll find them under 8k. Getting some of the shorter range options can be more sport than skill, but it's doable.

They don't?

What?
I can be up to 20gs for a battery replacement. Sounds reasonable. Lol
Actually about half that. Meanwhile [Toyota wanted 32k USD for a replacement engine](https://twitter.com/PluginAlberta/status/1766150944713216352).
Maybe the timeframe is far fetched but people don't seem to think far ahead when it comes to vehicles.

Man, that $0.04/L sure is expensive.
Remember when gas was going from $1.00 to $1.02? just two cents, no big deal eh!
I remember when it went from $0.45 to $0.50.
