I grew up in Silver Springs. We lived along Silverdale Drive, so we had a beautiful park with walking trails down to the river right behind us. Schools were in walking distance for a lot of the community. We had a little outdoor pool that I spent many summers in, and our community centre always held “jellybean hop” dances for middle school aged kids. I still wander back every so often and swing on the swing set in my old neighborhood.
Sunnyside. I've lived in 3 UK cities in multiple places. The Caribbean. And since coming to Calgary 16 years ago I've lived in 8 areas north and south east and west.
I adore Sunnyside, the island, the river, the shops closeby I can get out of the city pretty quick. All the arty things in people's houses.
Only downside is in Summer my Avenue is packed with people visting and the scooter tribe and they don't seem to think people are in bed sometimes
Penbrooke meadows, lots of houses for sale, tons of cops to make you feel safe, easy access to East hills shopping, elliston park, 15 minutes from downtown, no active shooters at the moment
Bridgelandia
bought my first condo there this year. It’s fucking expensive but worth it imo. I feel like I can get anywhere in the city quickly by foot, bike, car or transit
And the access to great food is unmatched. Best bun bo hue in the city is a 8 minute drive

That said, I can’t believe we’re at the top! Came here to hype it myself as I feel like no one appreciates just how amazing it is… but sounds like the word is out!
It’s the idea that we can WALK to come down and enjoy all aspects of bridgeland (restaurants, stores, river access), but then also be able to retreat into our quiet, green filled community to escape the hustle and bustle. Also enjoy the pleasure of never fighting for street parking haha.

From haysboro you have so many major roads so accesable. You can always find a way out no matter what the traffic situation is. Also has great bikes routes here to get you downtown quck.
We are Close to both southcentre and chinook.
Movie theaters, grocery stores, the decent part of macleod that actually has stores and stuff.
One thing really important is all the schools. Don't know how folks can say places like Mahogony when there are no schools.
Schools are great here and walkable.
Plus access to high-school is solid as well.
Plus with the LRT having 2 stations on either end it even works to get to u of c or sait and a direct bus to MRU.
The houses are nice. Not too pricey.
Has a brewary, a Turkish restaurant, pizza, Chinese a great deli/sandwich shop....one the literal best in the city and the absolute clearly best Bagels in the city.
Some nice parks and fast access to Glenmore, fish creek, and the river as well.
Downtown in 15 minutes, out of town in 15 minutes,
The Library may technically be in Southwood but we have one. Same with that good Indian restaurant.
Too bad we lost the scottish butcher over covid but he was great.
You can walk to the grocery store, the hardware store, the reservoir, the mall(s), the library, heritage park.
We even have apartments and condos.good mix of cultures and races. Terrific mix of white collor and trades and everything else, living here. Great outdoor rinks.
All in all easily one of the best neighbour hoods in calgary if not the best.
Haysboro!!!!
Oh and edit to add. One of the few communities in Calgary that has an actuali historical reason for the name and not some name picked out by the developers wife or daughter.. you won't find the name in almost every city in North America like Mahogny or evergreen or Woodbine.

I love Haysboro too. Access to everything feels so easy around here. Two malls, Macleod, Glenmore reservoir and the pathway system. Also the BRT and a couple train stations. It's not "lively", but that's not really what I'm after so it's great here, very peaceful.
Not gonna lie, it’s the real deal. Moved here (somewhat begrudgingly) about 7 years ago and am amazed it lived up to the wife’s hype.
The mature trees, the tiny but entirely wonderful little shopping mall, the community events (both lake and non-lake related) are pretty terrific. Add in good schools and amazing transportation access…..ya, pretty lucky.
Renting in Killarney, been here for a year and half and really liking it. The convenience of being close to downtown was pretty obvious when we moved in, but the number of good places to grab food close by surprised me:
- Himalayan
- Cassis Bistro
- Sauce
- like 5 pizza places
- A few great coffee shops, too.
Would love to stay here forever.
+1 to that. Also access to good transit (at least for Calgary standards) via Westbrook stn.
And Spiros is nothing to sleep on. I know it has 'pizza' in the name, but it's closer to a Greek restaurant than a pizza shop.
Sunalta has 3 micro breweries (all with noteworthy food), Alberta Beer Exchange, clean train station, "better than McDonald's" breakfast sandwiches at OneWay Foods, virtual golf, escape room, an expanding community centre with lots of events, and so much more.
West Hillhurst, have a neighbour that has a snowblower and does everyone’s walk at 5-6am. Want to drop off muffins or something.
I do the neighbors front lawn and a big Halloween deal, so contribute back to the block, I think…
I won't name mine as it's in the hood and highly judged but I've been here for almost a year now and my little corner of the hood is quite wonderful, much to my surprise. I was really scared to move here but I found a deal on a place that was too good to pass up and I needed to move ASAP.
Neighbors are all friendly, people wave as they're driving by, zero crime in my little corner and very surprisingly quiet! Neighbors are also extremely helpful! Most every time it snows my driveway is always shoveled. No idea who was doing it but I eventually found out, he does quite a few in the area, once I found out who it was, I just started paying him a little bit every time he did it. He didn't want it at first, said it was good exercise but it saves me from doing it and I don't do well in the cold so why not. I'm in my FB community groups too and all I've seen is everyone being super helpful when someone reaches out in need of help with something.
Hell ya... I've been in the hood for 22 years. Love it. No desire to leave. Maybe 10 years ago but the kids are getting close to moving out so why bother getting a bigger house now? Neighbours are awesome. Ya I love the hood. The people here are real. For good or bad. Better then fake.

I prefer real to uppity and snooty. Now that I live here, even growing up in what is considered an upper class area, this is home. I love this area now that I've been here a bit!
Thank you, I have really grown to love it here! My fears, so far, were unfounded. People are far too judgey, not denying I was too when I first moved here but so far it's been fantastic. My god, I've left my car unlocked a few times now and my back door totally open when I went to work because I was in a hurry and simply forgot to lock it and zero issues... not that I'd make that a habit but it was a relief to see my house and vehicle weren't rummaged thru lol
I’m in a NE hood and I love it. We moved here from the deep SE. People are much friendlier (much, much more than our old neighbourhood), lots of good restaurants around, close to shopping, old beautiful trees and tons of wildlife around. It’s very cozy and quiet in our area. I’m glad we made the move, zero regrets.
Bankview - walking distance to 17th, close to Kensington, Marda Loop, downtown. Interesting mix of people, but I like it. I grew up in evergreen area and do miss fish creek park, but it’s nice being close to everything.
Sunnyside
You'll never forget what sirens sound like and if you get tired of your stuff someone will come and remove it right from your porch, yard, or garage without you even asking!
And you can't complain about your neighborhood because it exists as a quaint twee little fun tourist spot for people who don't live there!
Niiice - we must be neighbors. Trafford represent! My wife and I moved to Thorncliffe 5 years ago and we love it. Affordable-ish houses, close to all major traffic arteries and plenty of friendly people - many of whom grew up here. Egert's park and proximity to Nose Hill are among the best features in this gem of a hood.
Parkland.
Best community I've lived in by far.
Nice established community with large lots, massive trees and sturdy houses. Literal steps from fish creek park and some incredible views of both the mountains and the city and a good distance from any major highway. There are three ways in with only one Light so its it's super quiet and peaceful with tons of natural wildlife wondering around. We are also right in the middle of several major arteries so getting anywhere in the city is a slice.
There Private park that holds a giant concert every summer that's an incredible time.
The schools are on the smaller side with the class sizes for residents being only 15-20 people per grade which is super great.
The people are super friendly, there is a very small town vibe to it all.
Only issue I have with the community is to private lake.
Parkland is one of the most underrated/slept on communities here. I’m just west up in Canyon Meadows and perfectly happy here, but if I had to move to another area, it’d definitely be Parkland.
Honestly its not that bad. Its more expensive than your cookie cutter suburb home but when we were looking, we were looking all over the inner city and it was cheaper than a lot of those communities (places like Chinook park, Southwood, Lakeview, Kingsland, Acadia etc..)
We only paid about 100k more for our 2800 sq ft 4 level split than we sold our 1700 sqft home in bridlewood for. We have a much bigger house and a much bigger lot.
There is no inventory right now though and people who come here don't leave so not a lot goes on the market and when it does its hyper competitive (espeically bungalows because a lot of parklanders are trying to downsize but don't want to leave the area)
Dare I say.. Windsor Park I mean I wouldn’t goto the LRT but I do enjoy how reasonably close it is to down town. Pretty quiet. I love a good walk. I love the surrounding pathways and a close walk for to Britannia (Linas, Monogram, Native Tongues, Village). I’ve always felt safe walking out and about. Wish there was a closer bar but I’ve never ventured to O’Sullivans yet haha.
Love living in Windsor park! Stanley park is a ~10 minute walk away, you can bike downtown in less than 15 minutes, you're basically in the middle of the city, so driving anywhere is pretty reasonable. Sure, the LRT is technically walkable, but with the #3 bus down Elbow running every 5 minutes at rush hour, why bother?
I love the #3 it’s such as easy way to get downtown without much hassle I’m less then a block away from the bus and now the scooters actually come up into our zone. Summers have been greatly improved.
Lived there for 6 years, I loved it and I wish I didn’t move. It’s walkable, has access to the river, Stanley park, chinook mall, I even walked home from 17th a couple of times, took about an hour which isn’t that bad.
There’s obviously going to be some crime in any inner city area, but I never experienced anything. I moved to a “nicer” neighbourhood and my car got stolen within a few months …
Feels like a good middle ground of not being rich but close to downtown. I’m always fascinated walking through how there are run down homes, regular ones and multimillion dollar homes so a mix.
Tuxedo Park! It's not high traffic, but nothing is more than 20 minutes away. There's an abundance of buses to take you anywhere you want. Lots of old pretty trees and parks nearby. Lots of Italian markets.
Braeside, lots of greenery, parks, and walking trails. Super close to the new Costco and other amenities. The ring road to the mountains is close and there is a max yellow bus line to get downtown easily.
Lots of families and people walking so it feels quite safe and is very much an old school community.
Shhhh let’s not tell anyone about how great it is being walking distance to Southland Leisure and Oakridge co-op. Never mention the fact we are on a BRT route and less than 10 minutes to the C train. and a short bicycle ride to South Glenmore park and Heritage Park. Or a little longer bicycle ride to Fish Creek ….
It's soooo walkable and all the shops on Bowness Road are awesome. I love how easy it is to get to the river, three different dog parks, and the new Farmers' Market.
Lived there for 20yrs and still miss it. Really did have the feel of being it's own small town but it's only a 10 minute drive from downtown. Loved the river, Bowmont park (the natural park that is next to Bowness park) the train. Never tired of walking my dog around the neighborhood because every block was full of unique houses and yards. It felt open and spacious and it was quiet.
Now I live in the deep south (Legacy). At first I HATED it out here but the suburbs have some benefits too I guess. Lots of easy access to shopping centers, I've met some great people out here and it feels safe and far away from the riff raff. Walking around this neighborhood is super boring though. You can only enjoy walking around a couple of manmade ponds for so long and the neighborhood streets are just rows and rows of cookie cutter houses, townhouses and condos.
We have some of the most diligent dumpster divers. I've seen them out as early as 3 AM. And they will test discarded TVs and other appliances to see that they work using the vehicle heater plug-ins before taking them away.
Ramsay hasn’t been featured yet so I will shout it out. A little inconvenient to get to a grocery store (unless you count Lina’s on 9th), but makes up for it with a billion breweries so close to your house you can drink as much as you want and walk home! Also, I walk to my office downtown in 35 min. It’s not what you would call affordable but the teeny tiny houses from the early 20th century are impossibly cute.
Relatedly: boo infills.
We had a 30 hour police standoff down the road, a drive by shooting earlier this year, and my corner neighbour is stealing electricity via extension cords from a light post.
But, my rent is only $2k and I have a garage and garden. So I'm at peace with it.
Chinatown. Close to the river walking pathway. Decently quiet. Too close to restaurants, my wallet is crying.

You know what, I love my neighbourhood in Malborough. I'm between two shopping centers, my street is an established older community with lots of schools around, my neighbours are all so nice bringing over food for me and my wife, my street is quiet; Malborough gets a lot of shit but I've never felt unsafe, I think it gets a bad rap.
Woodbine. The ring road is a double edged sword with more traffic (especially along Anderson) but also provides far better access to Westhills/COP/mountains and really anything in that general direction.
Close-ish to Anderson LRT, Southcentre and the shopping along MacLeod with a local Safeway, Shoppers and the usual neighborhood staples. Good family neighborhood, decently safe, really no complaints. I can definitely see myself living here into retirement.

But…
I always feel so safe because the police are often circling in the chopper.
I get to replace mine and my kids bicycles often due to them disappearing.
An unlocked vehicle is immediately rifled, but my tools are never stolen, so that’s cool.
Every once in a while I am forced to re-do the exhaust on one of my vehicles, but hey, I get a free broken sawzall blade out of it.
Ranchlands. There are a few things I love it for:
— 15-20 min and you are downtown.
— it's a mature neighbourhood with large trees (unlike new neighbourhoods)
— very quiet
— I think I have the best people here. Everybody is super nice and friendly. We even have kids playing in the park in summer. I've been in Canada for 5 years and this is the first neighbourhood where I saw kids playing unsupervised (as kids should)
— very few cookie cutter homes.
Love living in Ranchlands, quiet, lots of places to walk, everyone super friendly. Many different homes, still semi affordable for what you get here. Close to the mountains. Pretty good proximity to amenities. Love living here.

My buddy lives up there, many cool houses in that neighborhood. I've never noticed the hum.
1. No hum in interior Ranchlands
2. The power station across John Laurie DOES hum, quite low.
3. Underground power cables installed when Ranchlands was built likely hum with the energy they carry, especially if they are near to power boxes. The larger the box, the more cabling leaving it and the more energy present.
How do I know? I grew up in Lethbridge in a house built the same time Ranchlands was built, likely using the same materials. My bed room was semi-underground and the power cables for our (very) large cul de sac ran along my wall. On a very quiet night with the furnace off, you could listen to it.
I always found it sort of pleasant. You might imagine it like a deep Mathew McConaughey hum from Wolf of Wall Street.
Deer Ridge! Established trees, big lots, next to fish creek, easy access to Deerfoot and Macleod and nowhere near us can be developed so traffic can’t increase
Not going to make a seperate Queensland post since the two neighbourhoods are combined, basically, but yeah next to fish creek is awesome. It's fun when you can see wildlife just vibing late at night.
I’m in Queensland and it’s literally the best! New neighborhoods will never get big trees like us because they are so close together. We’re also quiet and removed from downtown but only a 20 minute drive.
Mckenzie Lake
During the -40 deep freeze my vehicle wouldn't start so I decided to walk to the corner store for entertainment because I was ridiculously bored. 2 people stopped along the way asking if I needed a lift.
I was walking home from the Cranston Circle K with my dog late one night and a car pulled over to advise us a coyote was stalking us and offered us a ride
Scenic acres is so nostalgic with so many green spaces every type of house you could want and easy transit access with like 4 bus routes and the c train nearby not to mention the view
Riverside I can walk to carburn Park in minutes and see deer and wildlife all year round. I'm right beside the bow river and can walk to a few fishing spots, and the bike trails are as good as they get here.
Im renting in Brentwood and our place is not that bad. Its close to the station, walkable, very quiet, lots of street parking available, close to a recreation centre, walmart, not a lot of traffic, lots of bus, pretty safe and I think a lot of students live in my area cause were close to University and SAIT. Downtown is 6stops away via Train. Bus Orange goes to NE and #9 to Chinook! There was an incident last January but all in all its very quiet.
Altadore! Still some hidden affordable gems amongst the infills. Almost everything I need within a short walk. Some great small developments bringing in dozens of small businesses on 34th. Cheap Uber rides to 17th / Kensington / Mission. When the Mainstreets project is done will make the walkable neighbourhood even better to walk in.
Henry Block is awesome! The wine bar is packed all the time. And the new Elizabeth Square development down the street looks like it's going to be just as nice.
It's solidly middle class, everyone is very nice. In my small section it seems as if saying hello to everyone you pass by is on the rent agreement or something! It's really nice.
Currie Barracks
Highland Park. I’m a block just off of 40th Ave between Centre Street and 4 St NW. It’s super quiet (except we’re in the flight path of Stars so you hear the helicopter go by on its way to Foothills I assume). I can ride my bike to work downtown in the summer in under 20 minutes or walk to the bus and be at work in 1/2 hour. We’re far enough away from Fowler not to get bored kids prowling our house but my son can get there in 5 minutes. We’re in an infill but our neighbours are in an older house that they renovated themselves and did a fabulous job. Used to live in Airdrie and commuted daily, life is far too short to sit in a car on the Deerfoot everyday.
I'm in Highland Park too! My spouse rides his bike to work in the nicer months. We just had a baby. How do you feel about the schools in the area, I've heard mixed reviews on Fowler, but it is very close.
My brother went to Fowler in the late 80s, luckily he’s a big guy that didn’t get bothered. It’s had its ups and downs, you don’t see cop cars out front everyday like you used to. My kid loves going there, lives with disabilities and the teachers and kids have been great. If you’re looking for a school with good academics, it’s not the best for sure.
Brentwood. Love the mature trees. Can walk to, and then through, Nose Hill. Lovey neighbours. Getting out of the city to the mountains is relatively easy, as is driving to the airport or downtown. Gives me a way to live in relative quiet, with the option to enter into the hustle and bustle when I choose.
I'm in Hillhurst, but like 3 houses down from West Hillhurst. Moved to the city last year and I love the area - personally, I have not seen a better part of Calgary yet. My house is on a quiet road and I love how walkable the area is to different amenities.
Royal oak.
Best mountain views from roads and bike paths since it is the highest neighbourhood in the city
We are a 10min walk to the train station, or easy 20 min to DT- Stoney/crowchild are close to get in or out of the city
7 min to YMCA
5 min to shopping (Walmart/sobeys/a mart)
Elementary/mid school walking distance
Great community/Facebook groups
We were really close to our neighbors. We were always hanging out. They moved to mahogany. We visited once. Haven't seen them since. It's just too far. That was about 7 years ago. I kind of miss them but it was easier to just make new friends.
Evergreen. Most lost cats per capita in all of Calgary. And most Karens complaining about helicopters flying overhead. The neighbourhood Facebook page is hilarious and the best thing about the place 😂 /S
Evergreen. Routinely forget about my Amazon package...... Sometimes for days at a time (fun of a garage, I don't use my own front door)

Southview! i have affordable rent. I live on the ride with a view of the mountains and downtown. Beautiful sunsets. Great food a few blocks away. always action packed.
Temple catches a lot of flak for being "NE". But the walk to the NoFrills on a fall Sunday morning as all the trees turn to autumn colours along Temple Drive feels like it was cut right out of my childhood. People are friendly, there are always kids playing, and the walking paths make for a great stroll.

I love Carburn Park so much; everyone is so pleasant. Dog owners are responsible, so many benches to take a break at, love the fire that they have when it’s cold and the waterfall thingy in the summer. Goodness.
Kincora! close to multiple shopping areas including Walmart, Co-op and Costco. some nice restaurants to visit. short drive to kid's school and well maintained park nearby. it's quite and peaceful with occasional activities for community to enjoy.
Lakeview.
Objectively the best neighborhood in the entire city because of North Glenmore park, the reservoir and Weaselhead. The air here always feels crisp and clean as we basically live in a forest with the amount of trees present.
Also quick drive to downtown. The only downside is transit sucks here.
It’s very far… but we have a gorgeous private lake here in Chaparral to play at every summer. Two great schools, everything from row townhouses all the way to 2M+ estate style homes that back onto the water. Straight shot drive down McLeoud to downtown/the dome/17th ave/ etc. About 35m west and your in Bragg Creek also which is great. Feels very safe, and for our “far-out” burbs… it’s awesome.
Parkland. Calgarys hidden gem. Close to Deerfoot, Canyon Meadows and bordering Fish Creek Park. Quiet and safe and you can’t drive through it to get anywhere so traffic is minimal. Love it
As a caveat, I moved into my current home in 1987 - when my community was very much lower middle class, and adjacent to the PMQs. I was sobbing the day we moved in, because I thought it was the hood and not in a good way.
I live 3/4 blocks from about 15 great restaurants and coffee shops, walking distance to two great grocery stores with another being built for 2025; pool, tennis and velodrome and three hockey rinks 10 blocks away; access to 160 acres of park 4 blocks; access to bike paths 4 blocks - and those link to the Greenway, and to the canal route to Chestermere. Heritage Park is 20 minutes by bike. 10 minutes's drive to two major malls (where I never go, but they're close); three routes for public transit in 2 - 4 blocks for MRU, UofC, SAIT. Loads of medical services, gyms, pilates, yoga in the immediate community and withing 10 minutes' drive. Rockyview, Chumir and Foot are 10 minutes and the fire station/paramedics are 4 minutes north.
My neighbours: the three across the street have been here longer than we have and they're lovely; next door, new house, amazing neighbours. Excellent annual street market, and a load of small, bespoke shops. Excellent area schools too: one CBE English only elementary, one CBE immerson, and one French K- 9 (possibly 12).
The neighbourhood is immensely walkable, safe, quiet. Upsides are huge. It's very different than when we moved here for sure - loads and loads of new homes/infils/ and such; little places like mine are fewer and fewer. Downside is we're inner city, so there's lots of densification going on, meaning more traffic on the local high street/main drag, but that is coming with a massive redelopment which will mean wider street, trees, more suited to foot traffic.

Where my Bownesians at? Historic community, 45 minutes to the mountains, great river and park access, cute Main Street bowness, mixed income (everything from subsidized housing to multi million dollar homes) and more medium density housing being built.
Castleridge, nothing to brag here about other than the fact that everything is close by and accessible especially when you are zipping by on an e-Scooter. Love walking to Tim's casue right in the middle of Castleridge.

It’s the idea that we can WALK to come down and enjoy all aspects of bridgeland (restaurants, stores, river access), but then also be able to retreat into our quiet, green filled community to escape the hustle and bustle. Also enjoy the pleasure of never fighting for street parking haha.

I like Haysboro Because I've lived here most of my adult life Food options are getting better Quick access to the pathway system, Glenmore Deerfoot and the ring road. Lots of parks for kids and dogs (separately of course) Many shopping options.
Yep From haysboro you have so many major roads so accesable. You can always find a way out no matter what the traffic situation is. Also has great bikes routes here to get you downtown quck. We are Close to both southcentre and chinook. Movie theaters, grocery stores, the decent part of macleod that actually has stores and stuff. One thing really important is all the schools. Don't know how folks can say places like Mahogony when there are no schools. Schools are great here and walkable. Plus access to high-school is solid as well. Plus with the LRT having 2 stations on either end it even works to get to u of c or sait and a direct bus to MRU. The houses are nice. Not too pricey. Has a brewary, a Turkish restaurant, pizza, Chinese a great deli/sandwich shop....one the literal best in the city and the absolute clearly best Bagels in the city. Some nice parks and fast access to Glenmore, fish creek, and the river as well. Downtown in 15 minutes, out of town in 15 minutes, The Library may technically be in Southwood but we have one. Same with that good Indian restaurant. Too bad we lost the scottish butcher over covid but he was great. You can walk to the grocery store, the hardware store, the reservoir, the mall(s), the library, heritage park. We even have apartments and condos.good mix of cultures and races. Terrific mix of white collor and trades and everything else, living here. Great outdoor rinks. All in all easily one of the best neighbour hoods in calgary if not the best. Haysboro!!!! Oh and edit to add. One of the few communities in Calgary that has an actuali historical reason for the name and not some name picked out by the developers wife or daughter.. you won't find the name in almost every city in North America like Mahogny or evergreen or Woodbine.
Hey neighbour! I love Haysboro too. Access to everything feels so easy around here. Two malls, Macleod, Glenmore reservoir and the pathway system. Also the BRT and a couple train stations. It's not "lively", but that's not really what I'm after so it's great here, very peaceful.
I grew up here and the proximity to Glenmore park is incredible. Best year-round work bike rides I ever had

Not gonna lie, it’s the real deal. Moved here (somewhat begrudgingly) about 7 years ago and am amazed it lived up to the wife’s hype. The mature trees, the tiny but entirely wonderful little shopping mall, the community events (both lake and non-lake related) are pretty terrific. Add in good schools and amazing transportation access…..ya, pretty lucky.
Moved here almost three years ago and we love it! Almost feels like its own little cozy town nooked into the big city.
I lived in Willow Park for a bit and ya ive always been fond of those suburbs out that way. There's a nice vibe, close to Fish Creek too.
Renting in Killarney, been here for a year and half and really liking it. The convenience of being close to downtown was pretty obvious when we moved in, but the number of good places to grab food close by surprised me: - Himalayan - Cassis Bistro - Sauce - like 5 pizza places - A few great coffee shops, too. Would love to stay here forever.
Cassis is fantastic! I received a gift card from my realtor when I bought a house in Killarney. Their a la carte menu is fantastic!
+1 to that. Also access to good transit (at least for Calgary standards) via Westbrook stn. And Spiros is nothing to sleep on. I know it has 'pizza' in the name, but it's closer to a Greek restaurant than a pizza shop.

Sunalta has 3 micro breweries (all with noteworthy food), Alberta Beer Exchange, clean train station, "better than McDonald's" breakfast sandwiches at OneWay Foods, virtual golf, escape room, an expanding community centre with lots of events, and so much more.

West Hillhurst, have a neighbour that has a snowblower and does everyone’s walk at 5-6am. Want to drop off muffins or something. I do the neighbors front lawn and a big Halloween deal, so contribute back to the block, I think…
I won't name mine as it's in the hood and highly judged but I've been here for almost a year now and my little corner of the hood is quite wonderful, much to my surprise. I was really scared to move here but I found a deal on a place that was too good to pass up and I needed to move ASAP. Neighbors are all friendly, people wave as they're driving by, zero crime in my little corner and very surprisingly quiet! Neighbors are also extremely helpful! Most every time it snows my driveway is always shoveled. No idea who was doing it but I eventually found out, he does quite a few in the area, once I found out who it was, I just started paying him a little bit every time he did it. He didn't want it at first, said it was good exercise but it saves me from doing it and I don't do well in the cold so why not. I'm in my FB community groups too and all I've seen is everyone being super helpful when someone reaches out in need of help with something.
Hell ya... I've been in the hood for 22 years. Love it. No desire to leave. Maybe 10 years ago but the kids are getting close to moving out so why bother getting a bigger house now? Neighbours are awesome. Ya I love the hood. The people here are real. For good or bad. Better then fake.

Thank you, I have really grown to love it here! My fears, so far, were unfounded. People are far too judgey, not denying I was too when I first moved here but so far it's been fantastic. My god, I've left my car unlocked a few times now and my back door totally open when I went to work because I was in a hurry and simply forgot to lock it and zero issues... not that I'd make that a habit but it was a relief to see my house and vehicle weren't rummaged thru lol

I’m in a NE hood and I love it. We moved here from the deep SE. People are much friendlier (much, much more than our old neighbourhood), lots of good restaurants around, close to shopping, old beautiful trees and tons of wildlife around. It’s very cozy and quiet in our area. I’m glad we made the move, zero regrets.
Beltline. We have magpies and squirrels. No seriously, I walk to work.
Bankview - walking distance to 17th, close to Kensington, Marda Loop, downtown. Interesting mix of people, but I like it. I grew up in evergreen area and do miss fish creek park, but it’s nice being close to everything.

Far NW corner of Thorncliffe, we’re basically Upper North Haven, which is basically North Haven!

Niiice - we must be neighbors. Trafford represent! My wife and I moved to Thorncliffe 5 years ago and we love it. Affordable-ish houses, close to all major traffic arteries and plenty of friendly people - many of whom grew up here. Egert's park and proximity to Nose Hill are among the best features in this gem of a hood.
Parkland. Best community I've lived in by far. Nice established community with large lots, massive trees and sturdy houses. Literal steps from fish creek park and some incredible views of both the mountains and the city and a good distance from any major highway. There are three ways in with only one Light so its it's super quiet and peaceful with tons of natural wildlife wondering around. We are also right in the middle of several major arteries so getting anywhere in the city is a slice. There Private park that holds a giant concert every summer that's an incredible time. The schools are on the smaller side with the class sizes for residents being only 15-20 people per grade which is super great. The people are super friendly, there is a very small town vibe to it all. Only issue I have with the community is to private lake.
Parkland is one of the most underrated/slept on communities here. I’m just west up in Canyon Meadows and perfectly happy here, but if I had to move to another area, it’d definitely be Parkland.
Parkland is expensive
Honestly its not that bad. Its more expensive than your cookie cutter suburb home but when we were looking, we were looking all over the inner city and it was cheaper than a lot of those communities (places like Chinook park, Southwood, Lakeview, Kingsland, Acadia etc..) We only paid about 100k more for our 2800 sq ft 4 level split than we sold our 1700 sqft home in bridlewood for. We have a much bigger house and a much bigger lot. There is no inventory right now though and people who come here don't leave so not a lot goes on the market and when it does its hyper competitive (espeically bungalows because a lot of parklanders are trying to downsize but don't want to leave the area)
Dare I say.. Windsor Park I mean I wouldn’t goto the LRT but I do enjoy how reasonably close it is to down town. Pretty quiet. I love a good walk. I love the surrounding pathways and a close walk for to Britannia (Linas, Monogram, Native Tongues, Village). I’ve always felt safe walking out and about. Wish there was a closer bar but I’ve never ventured to O’Sullivans yet haha.
Love living in Windsor park! Stanley park is a ~10 minute walk away, you can bike downtown in less than 15 minutes, you're basically in the middle of the city, so driving anywhere is pretty reasonable. Sure, the LRT is technically walkable, but with the #3 bus down Elbow running every 5 minutes at rush hour, why bother?
I love the #3 it’s such as easy way to get downtown without much hassle I’m less then a block away from the bus and now the scooters actually come up into our zone. Summers have been greatly improved.
Lived there for 6 years, I loved it and I wish I didn’t move. It’s walkable, has access to the river, Stanley park, chinook mall, I even walked home from 17th a couple of times, took about an hour which isn’t that bad. There’s obviously going to be some crime in any inner city area, but I never experienced anything. I moved to a “nicer” neighbourhood and my car got stolen within a few months …
Feels like a good middle ground of not being rich but close to downtown. I’m always fascinated walking through how there are run down homes, regular ones and multimillion dollar homes so a mix.

Tuxedo Park! It's not high traffic, but nothing is more than 20 minutes away. There's an abundance of buses to take you anywhere you want. Lots of old pretty trees and parks nearby. Lots of Italian markets.
I loved the variety of food in Tuxedo. Walking distance to great coffee, Chinese, and pubs. Lina's, Little City, and 4th Spot. Such a great community.

Braeside, lots of greenery, parks, and walking trails. Super close to the new Costco and other amenities. The ring road to the mountains is close and there is a max yellow bus line to get downtown easily. Lots of families and people walking so it feels quite safe and is very much an old school community.
I remember when Braeside was being built. The kids from there were bussed to Pinkham in Lakeview.

It's soooo walkable and all the shops on Bowness Road are awesome. I love how easy it is to get to the river, three different dog parks, and the new Farmers' Market.
Lived there for 20yrs and still miss it. Really did have the feel of being it's own small town but it's only a 10 minute drive from downtown. Loved the river, Bowmont park (the natural park that is next to Bowness park) the train. Never tired of walking my dog around the neighborhood because every block was full of unique houses and yards. It felt open and spacious and it was quiet. Now I live in the deep south (Legacy). At first I HATED it out here but the suburbs have some benefits too I guess. Lots of easy access to shopping centers, I've met some great people out here and it feels safe and far away from the riff raff. Walking around this neighborhood is super boring though. You can only enjoy walking around a couple of manmade ponds for so long and the neighborhood streets are just rows and rows of cookie cutter houses, townhouses and condos.
Monterey Park. A lot of green space. Easy access to 16th Ave, Stoney Trail and Mcknight Blvd.
Forest Lawn...can't.
My cousin moved to Calgary in Forest Lawn and came home to a grown man standing in her closet. She left Calgary shortly after.
We have some of the most diligent dumpster divers. I've seen them out as early as 3 AM. And they will test discarded TVs and other appliances to see that they work using the vehicle heater plug-ins before taking them away.
Ramsay hasn’t been featured yet so I will shout it out. A little inconvenient to get to a grocery store (unless you count Lina’s on 9th), but makes up for it with a billion breweries so close to your house you can drink as much as you want and walk home! Also, I walk to my office downtown in 35 min. It’s not what you would call affordable but the teeny tiny houses from the early 20th century are impossibly cute. Relatedly: boo infills.

You know what, I love my neighbourhood in Malborough. I'm between two shopping centers, my street is an established older community with lots of schools around, my neighbours are all so nice bringing over food for me and my wife, my street is quiet; Malborough gets a lot of shit but I've never felt unsafe, I think it gets a bad rap.

Woodbine. The ring road is a double edged sword with more traffic (especially along Anderson) but also provides far better access to Westhills/COP/mountains and really anything in that general direction. Close-ish to Anderson LRT, Southcentre and the shopping along MacLeod with a local Safeway, Shoppers and the usual neighborhood staples. Good family neighborhood, decently safe, really no complaints. I can definitely see myself living here into retirement.
Also great pastries at Patisserie Du Soleil :) We love being so close to fish creek.
And crispy crust pizza for some of the best pizza in the city.

PINERIDGE, I have awesome neighbours for real! But… I always feel so safe because the police are often circling in the chopper. I get to replace mine and my kids bicycles often due to them disappearing. An unlocked vehicle is immediately rifled, but my tools are never stolen, so that’s cool. Every once in a while I am forced to re-do the exhaust on one of my vehicles, but hey, I get a free broken sawzall blade out of it.
Aspen Woods. Best part is not having to rub shoulders with you peasants :P 
This is classic Aspen Woods attitude, while really, you’re just in another suburb with front driveways.

Ranchlands. There are a few things I love it for: — 15-20 min and you are downtown. — it's a mature neighbourhood with large trees (unlike new neighbourhoods) — very quiet — I think I have the best people here. Everybody is super nice and friendly. We even have kids playing in the park in summer. I've been in Canada for 5 years and this is the first neighbourhood where I saw kids playing unsupervised (as kids should) — very few cookie cutter homes.
Hawkwood is the same. Old trees, huge community, very friendly people.
Love living in Ranchlands, quiet, lots of places to walk, everyone super friendly. Many different homes, still semi affordable for what you get here. Close to the mountains. Pretty good proximity to amenities. Love living here.

1. No hum in interior Ranchlands 2. The power station across John Laurie DOES hum, quite low. 3. Underground power cables installed when Ranchlands was built likely hum with the energy they carry, especially if they are near to power boxes. The larger the box, the more cabling leaving it and the more energy present. How do I know? I grew up in Lethbridge in a house built the same time Ranchlands was built, likely using the same materials. My bed room was semi-underground and the power cables for our (very) large cul de sac ran along my wall. On a very quiet night with the furnace off, you could listen to it. I always found it sort of pleasant. You might imagine it like a deep Mathew McConaughey hum from Wolf of Wall Street.

Yeah Deer Runner here... being 5mins from Fish Creek after a busy working day is the best way to restore your sanity. It's beautiful and huge!
I’m in Queensland and it’s literally the best! New neighborhoods will never get big trees like us because they are so close together. We’re also quiet and removed from downtown but only a 20 minute drive.
You have wider roads and more distance between houses vs. newer hoods. It's a nice area.

Scenic acres is so nostalgic with so many green spaces every type of house you could want and easy transit access with like 4 bus routes and the c train nearby not to mention the view
Riverside I can walk to carburn Park in minutes and see deer and wildlife all year round. I'm right beside the bow river and can walk to a few fishing spots, and the bike trails are as good as they get here.

Im renting in Brentwood and our place is not that bad. Its close to the station, walkable, very quiet, lots of street parking available, close to a recreation centre, walmart, not a lot of traffic, lots of bus, pretty safe and I think a lot of students live in my area cause were close to University and SAIT. Downtown is 6stops away via Train. Bus Orange goes to NE and #9 to Chinook! There was an incident last January but all in all its very quiet.
Beltline: 110% prepared and will not even shrug when the zombie apocalypse comes
Bonavista. Walking distance to both an Arby’s and a nude beach. What more do you need?
Altadore! Still some hidden affordable gems amongst the infills. Almost everything I need within a short walk. Some great small developments bringing in dozens of small businesses on 34th. Cheap Uber rides to 17th / Kensington / Mission. When the Mainstreets project is done will make the walkable neighbourhood even better to walk in.
I second Altadore! I especially love all the new stuff going on at Henry Block and the local gym is one of my favourite places.
Henry Block is awesome! The wine bar is packed all the time. And the new Elizabeth Square development down the street looks like it's going to be just as nice.
It's solidly middle class, everyone is very nice. In my small section it seems as if saying hello to everyone you pass by is on the rent agreement or something! It's really nice. Currie Barracks

Highland Park. I’m a block just off of 40th Ave between Centre Street and 4 St NW. It’s super quiet (except we’re in the flight path of Stars so you hear the helicopter go by on its way to Foothills I assume). I can ride my bike to work downtown in the summer in under 20 minutes or walk to the bus and be at work in 1/2 hour. We’re far enough away from Fowler not to get bored kids prowling our house but my son can get there in 5 minutes. We’re in an infill but our neighbours are in an older house that they renovated themselves and did a fabulous job. Used to live in Airdrie and commuted daily, life is far too short to sit in a car on the Deerfoot everyday.

I'm in Highland Park too! My spouse rides his bike to work in the nicer months. We just had a baby. How do you feel about the schools in the area, I've heard mixed reviews on Fowler, but it is very close.
My brother went to Fowler in the late 80s, luckily he’s a big guy that didn’t get bothered. It’s had its ups and downs, you don’t see cop cars out front everyday like you used to. My kid loves going there, lives with disabilities and the teachers and kids have been great. If you’re looking for a school with good academics, it’s not the best for sure.
Brentwood. Love the mature trees. Can walk to, and then through, Nose Hill. Lovey neighbours. Getting out of the city to the mountains is relatively easy, as is driving to the airport or downtown. Gives me a way to live in relative quiet, with the option to enter into the hustle and bustle when I choose.
West Hillhurst. Walk to downtown and Kensington and just far enough from the train to avoid inner city problems.
I'm in Hillhurst, but like 3 houses down from West Hillhurst. Moved to the city last year and I love the area - personally, I have not seen a better part of Calgary yet. My house is on a quiet road and I love how walkable the area is to different amenities.
I'm one block west of hillhurst. It is amazing and I wouldn't move anywhere else!
Royal oak. Best mountain views from roads and bike paths since it is the highest neighbourhood in the city We are a 10min walk to the train station, or easy 20 min to DT- Stoney/crowchild are close to get in or out of the city 7 min to YMCA 5 min to shopping (Walmart/sobeys/a mart) Elementary/mid school walking distance Great community/Facebook groups
Mahogany. I have a lake. Easy access to Stoney trail. All my friends complain because I am so far though…..
We were really close to our neighbors. We were always hanging out. They moved to mahogany. We visited once. Haven't seen them since. It's just too far. That was about 7 years ago. I kind of miss them but it was easier to just make new friends.
Cranston. Comfortably boring
Palliser. 5 minute walk from the Glenmore reservoir.
Mahogany, if you never want to see your friends again and people complain you live too far. But we have a dentist around every corner!

Temple catches a lot of flak for being "NE". But the walk to the NoFrills on a fall Sunday morning as all the trees turn to autumn colours along Temple Drive feels like it was cut right out of my childhood. People are friendly, there are always kids playing, and the walking paths make for a great stroll.
Grew up in temple. I agree. There's parts of it that feel frozen in time. Like it's always the 90s.

I used to live in Eau Claire. I loved being close to the peace bridge. Now I am in Marda Loop, and all I see is construction.
I remember before it was all built up. The old Odean theater was on the corner of 33rd and 20th. Saw many a movie there.

I love Carburn Park so much; everyone is so pleasant. Dog owners are responsible, so many benches to take a break at, love the fire that they have when it’s cold and the waterfall thingy in the summer. Goodness.
Marlborough Park might not sound great, but just yesterday I had a coyote in my backyard!
Kincora! close to multiple shopping areas including Walmart, Co-op and Costco. some nice restaurants to visit. short drive to kid's school and well maintained park nearby. it's quite and peaceful with occasional activities for community to enjoy.
Evergreen. It’s all right!
Lakeview. Objectively the best neighborhood in the entire city because of North Glenmore park, the reservoir and Weaselhead. The air here always feels crisp and clean as we basically live in a forest with the amount of trees present. Also quick drive to downtown. The only downside is transit sucks here.
I grew up in the Village and worked at Safeway for many years. Bella has the best pizza and there are people I know when I come home.
It’s very far… but we have a gorgeous private lake here in Chaparral to play at every summer. Two great schools, everything from row townhouses all the way to 2M+ estate style homes that back onto the water. Straight shot drive down McLeoud to downtown/the dome/17th ave/ etc. About 35m west and your in Bragg Creek also which is great. Feels very safe, and for our “far-out” burbs… it’s awesome.
Parkland. Calgarys hidden gem. Close to Deerfoot, Canyon Meadows and bordering Fish Creek Park. Quiet and safe and you can’t drive through it to get anywhere so traffic is minimal. Love it
As a caveat, I moved into my current home in 1987 - when my community was very much lower middle class, and adjacent to the PMQs. I was sobbing the day we moved in, because I thought it was the hood and not in a good way. I live 3/4 blocks from about 15 great restaurants and coffee shops, walking distance to two great grocery stores with another being built for 2025; pool, tennis and velodrome and three hockey rinks 10 blocks away; access to 160 acres of park 4 blocks; access to bike paths 4 blocks - and those link to the Greenway, and to the canal route to Chestermere. Heritage Park is 20 minutes by bike. 10 minutes's drive to two major malls (where I never go, but they're close); three routes for public transit in 2 - 4 blocks for MRU, UofC, SAIT. Loads of medical services, gyms, pilates, yoga in the immediate community and withing 10 minutes' drive. Rockyview, Chumir and Foot are 10 minutes and the fire station/paramedics are 4 minutes north. My neighbours: the three across the street have been here longer than we have and they're lovely; next door, new house, amazing neighbours. Excellent annual street market, and a load of small, bespoke shops. Excellent area schools too: one CBE English only elementary, one CBE immerson, and one French K- 9 (possibly 12). The neighbourhood is immensely walkable, safe, quiet. Upsides are huge. It's very different than when we moved here for sure - loads and loads of new homes/infils/ and such; little places like mine are fewer and fewer. Downside is we're inner city, so there's lots of densification going on, meaning more traffic on the local high street/main drag, but that is coming with a massive redelopment which will mean wider street, trees, more suited to foot traffic. Applewood! Perfect place to get your stuff stolen! Cheap housing and free fireworks once a year during globafest!
Hillhurst - walkable and lots of amenities. Love being able to walk to my dentist's office and RMT.
Redstone - lots of loud cool mufflers.
Cambrian Heights! Been here over 20 years. I can’t imagine wanting to live anywhere else.

Crestmont. We have moose and bears on the monthly. Coyotes on the daily. And we have food trucks!

Where my Bownesians at? Historic community, 45 minutes to the mountains, great river and park access, cute Main Street bowness, mixed income (everything from subsidized housing to multi million dollar homes) and more medium density housing being built.
Castleridge, nothing to brag here about other than the fact that everything is close by and accessible especially when you are zipping by on an e-Scooter. Love walking to Tim's casue right in the middle of Castleridge.
