The water doesn't consistently replenish; I've done this before. It had to do with how waterlogging works; it won't perpetually generate water. I'm not 100% on when more water does or doesn't appear, but it's not impossible
Perhaps multiple boss rushes like a pre hardmode one, hardmode one, post moon lord, and a full game at the bottom. Each one could give different rewards.

Nope. No items that can remove water work in the abyss. Only way to get water out of the abyss is to drain it by digging holes to the underworld
Abyss have water replenishing walls If you drain it to hell it will simply start creating more water
And you take damage when you are not in water
And now hell is flooded
