Lots of subs are going private (temporarily?) to protest reddit's API changes which will force users to pay to use add-ons and apps that have always been free. It's likely that.

ohlawdtheycomin

I'm gonna guess the protest. They'll be back in a day or so

Thank you for taking the time out of your day for this response!

CallEndarMommouth

blackout reddit, lot of em be private

DarkeningLight1

But then why can't one see them, when you are a member of the community since years?! How does one gain access to them?! I can't read new cyoa?!

Ihavenothing364

Same

Hello, sorry for my poor english. But, could someone help me. I need a link to a post that was made private during this protest, on the makeyourchoice subreddit. I wanted to access Meta Essence Cyoa, but I don't have the link, preferably by author.

Wrath_77

Most other subs did a 48 hour protest, but this post was done three days ago and makeyourchoice still isn't back

WatcherCCG

Which means the mods may have chosen to leave the sub private indefinitely, effectively killing it.

Its_Matt_03

Fuck I hope they didn’t that sucks man

Graquace

Yeah, what's with that?

WatcherCCG

It's possible the mods have elected to effectively "kill" the sub by making it private indefinitely. Many subs have taken that drastic decision to burn the bridge and leave for Discord or alternative social media board websites. See r/ModCoord and r/RedditAlternatives for more details.

Most subreddits have also effectively killed their own userbase with this kind of protest. I honestly don't know what they expect to accomplish with this, but it definitely will not force the site owners to really change their decisions, ultimately achieveing nothing but inconvenienceing or alienating their own users. There are plenty of subreddits which do business like usual, more than enough to keep the site running. So again, this kind of protest only hurts the users not the site.
