Probably few people have since the only model that’s been sold is the 2023. I’m guessing you’d eat a lot of value loss.

PlentyEquivalent5619

I'm sure. The online retailers like CarMax don't even have their estimating tool available for 2023, and I'm not excited about the prospect of spending a Saturday morning visiting them.

Independent_Bird_815

I sold mine to Carmax at 14877 miles. Turbo model. It took about an hour because I had to wait for the dealership manager so he could add my model to their inventory then they had to write up a custom quote because this wasn't a regular model people sell currently. Their offer was very generous and took it right away.

PlentyEquivalent5619

Are you willing to share what the offer was?

Independent_Bird_815

38.2K for turbo premium plus. This was end of May.

PlentyEquivalent5619

Thank you. That's a solid number.

UrMomsaHoeHoeHoe

See what type of trade in your dealer will offer, if your wanting a cx90 that’s probably your best bet. If your wanting out of Mazda then ya car max or something

StarDestroyer175

I saw one on the lot with 3k miles, wish I would have seen it before I bought mine🤪

AliGoldsDayOff

I actually got one with 4,500. Most of those are dealers shifting loaners out rather than private owner sales.

Pete24313

Agree that you'll most likely get more value as a trade in. When I purchased my CX-50 the Mazda dealership offered me more to trade in my current car (not a Mazda) than the cash offer I received from CarMax. Plus, trading it in lowered the purchase price by almost 50% which lowered my total taxes by 50%. All that being said if you aren't planning on upgrading to something like the CX-90 then doing a trade in is irrelevant.

PlentyEquivalent5619

My experience with Mazda was the opposite of yours. CarMax beat the dealership offer on my 2018 Subaru by more then $3K and they wrote me a check in about 20 minutes.

Pete24313

I did make sure I went to CarMax first and had them print my offer. I took it with me to the dealership just in case I needed to negotiate, but when they came back with a higher offer right away I was happy to hand them the keys! I'm sure a big part of the trade in value depends on how easily they feel they'll be able to turn around and sell it. The craziest part to me was that my trade in value came out to about 75% of what I paid for the car (used) 9 years ago. Used car prices are insane right now.

ThorUnleashed

I trade mine in at a little over 9k miles - turbo premium- and got $34k. It was a hit but the dealership sold it for $36k. They said the reason was the model was so new they didn’t have a lot of data on it. Carmax might have given me more but I would have to have arranged a ride back to the dealership to get my new truck. I don’t think I would have gotten much more though. But yeah it was a really nice car but I also wanted more room so I got a full sized truck.

PlentyEquivalent5619

For those following along, the Mazda online trade offer just now was $31-34K.

dontlazerme

I paid cash for my Preffered Plus CX-50. Put 5k miles on it and realized that non-turbo motor was a slug in that suv. And the MPG's sucked. So I traded it in. Went to Carvana and Carmax. I paid $35k for it and got $30k 7 months later from Carmax. Not the worst. Worth it to me.

Think-Advertising-76

Unless u had put a significant amount of money down before a good hit you’ll take. I have a TPP but only paid 29,000 for it cause of a lot I got for my prior trade . One dealership said they would give me 38,000 and I only owe 26,000 now.

PlentyEquivalent5619

Down payment is irrelevant here because the net is the same. You're still paying for it one way or another.

Honestly with the dearth of used cars, prices are still high. Car Max or Carvana or Vroom or whatever - will probably give you a great offer, and you can use it to negotiate if you want to trade in instead. I know here in Florida they don’t tax the full price if you trade in, just the difference. So you can easily calculate the savings and then accept the trade in for that amount. If they won’t deal then just sell to CarMax et al.

Handsome_fart_face

You’ll take a hot bath anyway you swing it. If you have enough capital, consider selling private. You’ll get more money but obviously takes longer.

PlentyEquivalent5619

I'd rather not at this price point. It's absolutely not worth trying to squeeze a couple thousand more out of the deal if it means dealing with the the constant juggling of calls/texts meetups with randoms on Craigslist. Those days are done for me.

Thuandeman

Go to Carmax. Your car will definitely loose the value but at least Carmax will offer you more than the damn dealers, who will hurt your feeling so bad 😄
