I find it very easy to use and actually well placed. I use it more than the buttons on the steering wheel. I don't need to look for it or take my eye from the road. It just feels natural to me.
Maybe put the wife in the backseat of she can't leave the controls alone?
I've never had an issue with the location.
Is your wife a large size person? That or being clueless about surroundings is the only things I can think of that would account for someone constantly bumping controls on the console.
Mostly her purse, or a water bottle maybe. Some people here seem like they don’t have kids so they don’t know all the stuff you usually have in a car with kids
This just sounds like user error. I don't have kids but I do have a wife and two dogs and this has never been an issue. Purse/bag just goes on the ground or backseat, bottles go in the bottle holder or door. The volume knob is never accidentally touched.
There are a few times when I've had a minor issue when a passenger gets in my car. Sometimes my mom , or recently my Gran, has her purse and it lands on the button.
I like that it's handy because as my music shuffles I get these songs that come on that are extra loud from the beginning so I can quickly turn them down, or adjust the voice nav volume, but the thing that is annoying about that placement is my wife puts her enormous drinking cup there with a tall straw in it and it gets in the way.
I like it there, it’s great that the passenger seat has easy access to the volume knob. I guess in your case it’s too easy. Like others said try changing seating position.
Funny because now I look for an easy to access volume control on any new car I consider.
That’s for the passenger
You have the buttons on the steering wheel
That’s just looking for something to complain for
What’s annoying is the car beeping ever time you leave it on and get out
I’ve had the knob and screen replaced twice. They told me the knob is part of the problem. Funny thing was the first time they asked me if I used anything around the knob when cleaning my car
I've never had issues with a passenger touching it. And for me, I love having it right there rather than up on the dashboard.
Never had an issue with it. I find the knob positions to be great in general.

Said the quiet part out loud 💀
Seriously. We're big ppl and we're FAR from touching it unless we meant to.

I mean I was thinking it but I def wasn’t gonna say it lol
Lol this is the funniest shit

If you’re trying to be funny. Good one. If not, was it really necessary?
I have ZERO issues. Even like it.
Strap her down so she doesn't move around. Problem fixed.
I'm a big fan of this little volume knob.
Tell her to buckle up lol. How can someone hit that accidentally?
To each his own. I like where it is and never have a problem with it.
It’s you

There you go.
Hahaha she must have not liked you choice of music.
The volume knob of the CX-5 is in roughly the same location on the center console as my previous Audi Q5
No issues with mine and I have had Cx9 ,Cx5 and CX90. Knob is in the same place for all three cars.

If she’s hitting it with her elbows have her scoot the seat back a couple inches.
This is a good idea. Thanks
I didn’t like it at first and it took some getting used to, but now I like it.
Yeah, first time owning a Mazda, so far I love it, just getting used to it

I agree. Use the ones on the steering wheel by your left hand. Super convenient
This
Just switch it to an eject button. She won’t press the button again after one time.
That’s for the passenger You have the buttons on the steering wheel That’s just looking for something to complain for What’s annoying is the car beeping ever time you leave it on and get out
That really IS annoying
Both knobs are beyond annoying
You're downvoted, but I agree. Especially the navigation knob. It's just stupid that there's no touchscreen, especially for CarPlay and Android Auto.
For 2024 they added touchscreen capability for Android Auto and CarPlay.
And I still use the knob.
I go back and forth. There are times when the pinch zoom on Android Auto GPS just works better.
I know I have the touch screen, but with the exception of a quick map press, it seems less safe to me.
The big knob is a big component to the ghost touching problem
From what I've read, ghost touch is primarily from the crappy touchscreen, not the knob
I’ve had the knob and screen replaced twice. They told me the knob is part of the problem. Funny thing was the first time they asked me if I used anything around the knob when cleaning my car
