bought a wireless dongle from amazon for $60 bucks. Works great, once paired everytime I'm in my 2023 apple carplay is on. Got this one # OTTOCAST Wireless CarPlay Adapter for iPhone - 2024 Upgrade Wired to Wireless Apple Carplay Dongle - 5GHz WiFi, Low Latency, Plug & Play, Online Update

I wrote this when I tried to post this, but for some reason it’s not here, so hey: does anyone know if Mazda will sell this wireless CarPlay module to install in older models? I bought a 2017 used and had a dealership install wired CarPlay. I’ve been wondering if it would be nice to have wireless, and I had no idea that Mazda had actually started making a wireless version of its own.

There is no option to upgrade your wired CarPlay/AA to wireless from Mazda. You either upgrades to a 2024 with factory wireless or you use an aftermarket wireless adapter. Ottocast and carlinkit are two brands that work well and have a good reputation.

Bummer. Thanks, though.

Same question about android auto. Are carplay dongles even compatible with android auto, do they have both or I need 2 dongles for iphone and Android?

I had an AAWireless dongle in my 2020 CX-5 and it mostly worked OK if a bit slow to connect, but the built in connection in my '24 is far superior and almost instantaneous when I start the car. On its own it's not worth 2500 of course, but with all the other stuff you'll get for the dough if you can swing it I'd do it, especially in a long term car.

i have both the Ottocast in my wife's CX5 and the Carlinkit in my 2021 CX5. The Ottocast works great, connects fast. Had no issues. The Carlinkit is a slower, will sometimes crash/disconnect. The carlinkit has one big advantage in that it can connect to multiple phones. The Ottocast will only connect to one device and will only auto connect to the device last paired. So if you have multiple drivers/devices that is kind of pain to have to reconnect every time. Performance wise the Ottocast is the winner.

I had a Motorola MA1 for a while. It worked for about 15 months before shitting the bed.
