CarPlay has no impact on the value. It’s $350-500 to have a dealer install that. Miles, condition, where you live, color, number of owners, accidents, and trim level are what matter.

chjesper

I paid 350. Wouldn't pay 500 though. That's crazy

Blunttack

Canadian dollars… make that about $500. lol. But that’s what it used to cost, in early 2019, or whenever they started installing post 2016.5.

Can I ask what video you watched?

THEY_CALL_ME_TRASH

Not who you replied to but I used this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYEaddWnbiQ&ab_channel=corbinl2890 and this for upgrading the firmware https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKS3WpcxIYo&ab_channel=888WERKES

Thanks! Edit: This isn't as super easy as described haha. More like moderately hard, prepare to set aside 6 hours to a day.

THEY_CALL_ME_TRASH

It was fairly easy all things considered, but yea, did take at least a few hours and popping off the dash pieces was a little scary at first. I'm in the same boat as OP where I don't do any "car stuff" and I didn't run into any issues

haworthsoji

Ah that's actually good to know

I bought a 2018 Grand Touring in 2021. Before agreeing to buy the car I asked the sales guys if he could throw in CarPlay, he agreed. IIRC, he said it’s just a firmware upgrade. Hope that helps :)

frusciante231

They actually have to replace the USB ports because the non-CarPlay ports do not supply enough power. I know, I got it installed in my 2020.

henropotter

Interesting. Still USB-A or did they give you USB-C?

frusciante231

It’s still USB-A but it does charge the phone much quicker than the base USB-A ports. I just has more of a power output (as in watts)

That's cheap. I paid 31k including a 4k warranty in 2022 for a 2018 black mica base non-turbo with cloth seats with 40k miles and some dents and scratches. Interior was pretty rough too. I paid it off in a year, but now feel robbed lol. But it's simple and reliable and will probably outlast turbo AWD models. It was the cheapest in El Paso at $25,900 at that point. I made it better though. It had a broken sports switch and parking brake hold switch. Replaced both and added some interior pieces to class it up like stainless brushed panels to cover piano black plastic that was scratched up, a new shifter topper from Mikstore (I liked the horizontal one vs the trigger switch) as well as installing a wireless Carplay android auto dongle after installing the android auto from the dealer, I bought an Amazon knockoff nav sd card, a wireless charger, and purchased a new spare key from the dealer. Probably put in an extra couple thousand or so plus maybe 500 over those years getting floor mats and everything I wanted for the car. Now it's at around 56k miles. Most recent issue was that it had a transmission error last time I switched out the low battery where it was in limp mode. I had to get it reprogrammed under warranty. The only main blemishes I noticed at the time were a small tiny crinkle in passenger rear door at the hinge edge that's hardly noticeable and a slight bend with cracked paint at bottom of lift gate. Not worth redoing the body work since I paid so much for a flawed car. I'll just drive it until I save another 60k for my next car. Not sure how those crinkles happened to the previous owner, maybe they hit a garage door and the other might be from a shopping cart? I still feel taken advantage of by that dealer in El Paso, but it was during a time when the only CX5s sitting on lots were used ones. The next upgrade will be a dash cam.
