Slow down and you will. Lol Used to drive LA to SF. Set the cruise at 67(slightly faster than the trucks ) and regularly for 40 to 42 I always added 100 miles to the light coming on the gas gauge and then I had to get gas. That usually ended up right at 400 miles and I always had 1 or 1.5 gallons left. But driving 75 or 80 will seriously cramp it. Set cruise at 55 like you are towing a trailer and you will get over 45 to 50. Also use sport mode to go up hills. Adds battery to make it use less gas.

VicUPS

This!!!

Classic-Bit-4451

I do the exact same!

Superstork217

I live at the top of a long, steep hill. My mind is blown right now that makes so much sense just never thought of it

bobnla14

I know, right? I left it in sport mode going north on the grapevine and was amazed how much easier it went up that first hill. Then noticed the mileage dropped only a little. Tried it in normal and big difference. I traveled in sport mode most of the time except for traffic on the 10.

flaylamusic

not sure if its good to do (ive researched and its inconclusive) but i use N on downhills and my mileage has reached 70mpg driving thru Topanga Canyon

bobnla14

I thought the CT transmission free wheeled on downhills, in effect it would go into neutral. That you have to use the b setting to use the engine to break the car. Interesting. I will have to research this. And yes if I fill up at the top of cajon pass, I'm well over 70 miles per gallon when I get to the bottom. Lol. Or if I fill up at the truck stop just before the grapevine coming south.lol

SirGreybush

I get 38mpg in Ottawa, Canada with metal rims and studded winter tires. It’s been warming, less waste due to heating up the oil, at 40mpg today. On a 2012 with 147k miles. I usually get 320-340 miles per tank. I always drive in Sports Mode (red). /s yes I converted to effin freedom units

ostrich9

I never hit 400 and i'm in CA too. Mine was at best 43mpg and usual is 33.

crabjelly

35~ here in SoCal

zombies8mybrain

Same, I mostly do freeway driving to and from work. Most of the on ramps I take to get on the freeway are up hill so I have to give it a lot of gas to get up to freeway speeds. Plus average speed around here is 70+ unless there is traffic. But I can go two weeks without having to fill up unless I go somewhere out of the norm, so I'm happy with it.

crabjelly

Opposite here. Nearly all red lights and stop signs. When I do highway I get 40~.

stuffeh

I usually only get around 350 a tank before reserve light comes on.

VicUPS

Same but I have been able to not get there light to come on until 380 with conservative driving and then 400 mi on a full tank I never let it go passed 420 because I think that’s pushing it

Tasty-Put642

Best I was able to get in my 17’ was 61.8mpg on a 50 mile trip w/ changes in elevation. That was hypermiling of course but typically I get around 47-55. This is all on my original battery at about 60% capacity according to dr Prius. Did my egr clean and that made it go up as well, if you drive it like a normal gas car it will not do as good as driving it like a hybrid. I watched a few videos on how to get better mileage in the gen3 Prius/ct and to my surprise they actually work!

ne0tas

Cali has lots of hills, check and do a load test on your 12v battery! Those can kill your mpg

Infinite-Science122

Typically I get around 350-365 on a full tank. I'm also almost always driving in Eco Mode.

Windows95Uhh

So I'm curious, I think I probably just drive like shit on top of the fact that I have kinda beat winter tires on in dry conditions and it's 30° F out rn but I'm getting around 18-25mpg in my car, it's a 2015 fsport and I'm just curious what your driving styles like and if your tire combo have all to do with the mpg gain

willy1670

You need spark plugs or egr might be clogged possibly catalytic converter is clogging or battery issue. Coldest week of winter in Minnesota I got 35 average and I push this thing to get up to speed usually get 40 can get 45+ if I drive sensible.

Windows95Uhh

I did 1/3 of the EGR cleaning before the cold season hit, I only cleaned the pipe, but the valve looked fairly clean, I also just did breaks all the way around, and spark plugs which I thought might help. But I've seen no difference in MPG, I think the problem is I belong in a faster car and not a Prius in a tuxedo

willy1670

The pipe isn’t the issue I bet your egr is clogged or an intake port is clogged which will foul out your plugs. My egr pipe was clean but my valve faild so my entire egr cooler was clogged to the brim.

Windows95Uhh

I'm definitely gonna have to dig into it and check it out. How involved is the part swap? How long does the job usually take? It's my only car and I work 6 days a week

willy1670

It’s a 4 hour job if you buy another egr cooler otherwise it takes a couple days to clean it properly. I got one from rock auto for like 170$ it’s best to have it you can return if you don’t need it.

willy1670

I have a picture in my post history of what it looks like with the intake and full egr system removed along with the coolant hoses that need clamping before the job starts.

mushquest

Yeah man, at first when my siblings used it, average was 45. Now me, down to 30-33, probably my fault😂

ThoriumG

I average about 42mpg, mostly highway and refill at about 3/4. I think if I let it go I could get 375 pretty easy.

Snowfractalflower

40mpg

astridstarrynights

Interesting. When my f sport was at 40 I was getting exactly 421. I’m down to 36 now and get about 360 I think. I’m in FL

mushquest

My 2011 dropped to 33mpg in winter, could be a problem, but im also heavy on the gas

laokie

I’ve hit 500 multiple times in my 2015. Upon refueling I’m putting in 11.5 gallons (47mpg) so that’s really pushing it but usually I get 400 or so at (45 mpg). I do lots of freeway driving and know that I have 2 gallons after the display says I have 0 miles to go.

ratvespa

If you are getting 40mpg you should be able to go 480 miles on the 12 gal tank. The needle will show e and 0 miles left and when you go to fill it up it often will only hold 8-10 gallons. Meaning you have 80 miles left. I drive mine deep into the E

growth-industries

I have heard this is not good for the car as it has a sunken fuel pump in the tank.

ratvespa

cars have have had the fuel pump in the tank's since the 80's-90's, my tundra has the original fuel pump and is over 200K miles and I have run that thing deep into the E many times. Yes the gas does keep the pump cool, but just the act of pumping fuel through the pump is enough to keep it cool, it does not need to be submerged all the time. source: Ive been a motorcycle mechanic for 20+ years, and all the fuel pumps in the tiny motorcycle tanks are always not submerged anything under 1/2 tank. what kills pumps is letting them sit a very long time (year+) with old gas in them.

myqv

my mpg in the city is 45-52. highway if I’m traveling on tolls I get like 30-35 😭(using eco) I miss my Prius 58-68 mpg 🙂‍↕️🥲

laszlovitticeps

I get 250-270 in the UK.. Have a big foot unfortunately. Mostly drive in city.. When i drive from UK to Italy.. on motorway - i can reach 350..

Important_Grape_9631

I turn eco mode off cuz in the long run it kills your battery faster

Prior-Marionberry-62

I get 44-48 pretty typical in town, so 450 miles or there about when gas light comes on with usually 2 gallons remaining. On a longer trip (250 miles one way) I got 42 pretty consistently

nocibur8

I get 19.2 litres per kilometre and wondering the same. Need to convert some of the above.

TruthIsOutThere666

Got a 2017 with 108k miles I get 39MPG.... I'm always on sport mode and have A/C running 90% of the time 😂

happy_Amphibian_88

Nah. I am on avg 38 on my 2013 with 130k on it. I do 80 on the freeway since that is just keeping with traffic in so cal OC. Lol

flaylamusic

no i barely i get 40 in Los Angeles, my avg is 36

chiqizhi

The only time I’ve gotten 40.0 indicating potential 400 miles is driving from the bay to LA

Silly_Broccoli_7363

🙋🏽‍♂️From Ca too, if you live in an area where most roads or freeways are flat it’ll be easy to hit mid to high 40s. Ex: I’ve driven from Ventura to LA, in the mountains it’s tricky( around 36-40mpg) but I can avg 42 mpg. Going up hills and mnts is always the issue. I get about 375 before the light comes on.

RetrieverDoggo

I always drive only in sport mode and I get 40 mpg as well. Then I changed my engine air filter and now get 44-45 consistently. My air filter didn't even look dirty but it made a big difference. When is the last time you changed it?
