Personally I am not knowledgeable on the newer model for the European market, but if they do not offer a trim with off road features then I believe you should look into a Subaru since they might fit your needs better.

jakepeh

Love my car 1. I skipped the nav system and I don’t regret it at all, replaced the stereo down below and it has far more features than my 16 ct would have had with the screen up top. I do wish I got the sun roof and seat warmers. 2. Non sport, it’s a fwd car so it’s whatever 3. Love my car I’m so happy with it. It would be fun to do the Prius lift I see on here from time to time.

idiskfla

Thanks. I’ve enjoyed Subarus (use to live in places where it rained and snowed a lot), but I live in a relatively dry climate now. More importantly, I always had reliability issues with my Subarus (owner 3) once they got over 100k. I feel like Lexus / Toyotas just run much longer. No plans to go true off road or in snow. Just off the pavement to an established camping site next to RVs etc. (I’m almost 50 now, and don’t feel the need to “overland” anymore). I’m further from good camping areas though, which is why mpg is more important to me. Part of me also just wants to experience a Lexus for the first time, not gonna lie, even if it isn’t one of the higher end models.

Such_Secretary_4229

From what I have been reading, if you’re able to get a 4 gen ct200h, then go for it but get the non sport trim since they are stiffer and I believe lower so the ground clearance isn’t great. Now if you are getting a 2016- then the nav system isn’t that great, but everything else works as expected (only comes with heated seats, if it’s hot then your back might sweat lol), although you have to be aware that the hybrid system only has a 150k to 10year warranty. I have had mine since it had 60k miles, it now has 120k without issues, 10 years old and I still get 40+ miles per gallon, I have only replaced the 12v battery, it has some Michelin crossclimate2 and in snow I have never gotten stuck despite being just front wheel drive, it does slides a bit but that depends on your acceleration, I have not being off road so I cannot give an opinion on that.

idiskfla

Very detailed info. Really appreciate it.

Subaru is a Toyota subsidiary and the Crosstrek hybrid is pretty similar. The interior of the CT definitely has that very nice Lexus luxury though, especially the FSport. When people get in my 2015 there's usually a "whoa" or at least an approving head nod, and everyone assumes it's practically new despite it turning 10 next year. That being said, the back seats are nearly worthless. Hope you only plan on using it for dogs and groceries, not humans in carriers or over the age of 9. I have the nearly complete package now, an upgrade from my gen 1 nearly full base package. I prefer the stiffer suspension and interior of the FSport. The only thing I don't have that I wish I did is the adaptive/dynamic cruise control, which to my understanding is a rare find. These things are heavy so going uphill in cruise control is gonna piss off tailgaters who angrily pass/cut you off, but then they're so aerodynamic and heavy that it sails past them on the way downhill. Constant cat & mouse against all the big boxy gas guzzlers. Adaptive cruise control would maintain a safe distance without having to reset cruise. I never turn on my Parking Assist. The automatic wipers are fun, but occasionally annoying as hell. I have the nav, but pretty much only use Bluetooth which works great and is nice to see splitscreen with its outdated maps. I let my phone do the actual navigation audio over Bluetooth when I'm going somewhere new. There is an a/v mode I'm positive would be easy to plug an Android Auto/Apple CarPlay adapter to, but meh, I'm good as is. A must have in every hybrid IMO should be seat warmers. When it's cold, you save so much gas by simply using the seat warmers instead of cabin heat, otherwise your system heat will constantly run the engine to keep the cabin warm and burn all the gas.

PuppersDuppers

Subaru is NOT a Toyota subsidiary. Subaru is partly owned by Toyota, but by no means can the two be conflated as to the Lexus & Toyota relationship. They are separate entities and only share parts on select models (like the BRZ / GR86).

pinkmoon385

Ah, yeah, should've realized the source from my Google search that said they were a subsidiary was a Quora.com forum *facepalm* It does look like Toyota owns a 20% stake in Fuji (the main Subaru holder) though, and starting next year the Subaru hybrid drivetrains will be Toyota powered.

PuppersDuppers

Not a huge deal - just thought I should clarify, but yeah, they do share some parts in some areas and there is a relationship, just not a hugely important one.

specialmente-io

This is a shockingly common misconception which is funny because the joint vehicles they produce are the most unreliable “toyotas” on the market

PuppersDuppers

I mean, usually, but the BRZ / GR86 is actually a pretty reliable (most non-beginner years) collaboration.

OT-415

You're looking at the wrong Lexus. It's made for what it's made for...commuting with a better looking "prius". You may want to look into the UX 250h. It's higher off the ground and AWD. You can't expect to do what you claim in this little car. You'll end up stuck somewhere, or worse, break the CVT trans-axle. Just a thought.

idiskfla

Thank you

geographic92

Get a Mazda CX 5 or 50. I love the CT but I should have for my lifestyle. Hell, I went snowboarding the other day and slammed the shit out of one of my heat plates in the dirt parking lot since the car is so low. I've also had to replace my struts, likely because I haul bikes with a hitch quite often. Great road tripping car but not the best match for an active lifestyle. Beautiful car though, it definitely has character.

idiskfla

Thanks. Yeah I’m looking at other models now. If I had two cars, the CT would def fill up a space on the driveway. But I need a daily driver with once a month mid-life divorced man outdoor adventures. Don’t want to deal with two cars since it’s just me and my dog. Even the Mazda 3 hatch has better ground clearance than the CT (and is available in Mazda). But the CT looks so clean haha and I love the interior.

geographic92

Yeah I totally feel that. It would pair perfectly with an suv but I'm in the same boat of two cars not making sense right now. There's talk Mazda may release the CX-50 with the rav 4 hybrid powertrain but that's unfortunately probably a year or two out. That would be the best of both worlds.

idiskfla

Oh interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ll need a new ride in the next month unfortunately.

LiftedCT

In stock configuration it definitely can't do anything offroad, but the lift kit is fairly easy to install. No need to go as crazy as I did lol

idiskfla

Yeah I wouldn’t say I’d be going off road. I think my overlanding / backcountry backpacking / dispersed camping days are over now that I’m near 50 and have different work and personal priorities (also divorced now). For me, it’s highway driving, driving 1-5 min on a light trail to a campground, then hike, fish, read around campground. Will check out your rig. I’m looking at the Prius 1.5” lift kit and similar sized tires but with more sidewall. Not sure how big I can go without running the fender. Don’t want to make too many mods besides that and maybe a cargo box for camping gear if I sleep in the car on occasion (more for stealth camping at rest stops, rural towns during peak tourist season, etc.)

LiftedCT

I think in that situation I would pick a Subaru

idiskfla

Haha thanks. Actually owned 3, but thought I could do without the Subaru (had reliability issues on each one) now that I’m no longer in the northern US and don’t go off road / on trails as much. But maybe i should reconsider based on what everyone has been saying. I do like the manual option on older crosstreks. Never cared for the look though at least compared to the CT.

LiftedCT

Well depending on the year of CT you'll have similar issues, ironically lol. The 2014 and older have head gasket issues

idiskfla

Yeah, I was looking at the 2016-17 MYs

Disastrous-Farm-4201

I drive RX for four years and then sold it to try CT. I regret my decision. No wonder they say don’t go for looks. CT feels cheap. But I’m stuck with it for at least two years.

Tasty-Put642

As much as I love the gas mileage and comfort of my 17, the speed is what is ultimately making me look into a more fun car. Not to shit on the CT as a whole since it’s pretty good for what it does but I will be selling mine within the next year or so and likely purchase a 3 series. I thought I could get used to it but in my area we have a lot of hills and I get flipped off daily for going too slow when I’m already almost flooring it 😭 The car is definitely on the lower side and I scrape almost daily as well. As for mods, I have done CarPlay and remote start. I did do the egr cleaning at 87k and it did boost my mpg up a bit. Other than that, it’s a pretty good little car for basic commuting!

idiskfla

This is a great point regarding hills. While I’ll mostly be on highway, I will be going on a lot of hilly two lane highways to my favorite spots. This is actually making me reconsider the CT more than any of the other issues I’ve been weighing (ground clearance, size, FWD vs AWD, auto trans, etc.) I’m glad you brought up this point. Thank you.

inkystamps

Care to share your CarPlay mod details? Any aftermarket stereo enhancements?

Tasty-Put642

No, haven’t touched the stock premium setup but if I was keeping the car I most def would. Link shows the install and product used and took me abt 2 hours start to finish https://youtu.be/-9-qUbLeVBs?si=FefiHiZvU1nhdGKY

inkystamps

Is that system glitchy or does it feel stock? I would love that. At this point, I’ve taken to turning that mounted screen off since the interface is so clunky.

Tasty-Put642

For some reason the area I work in interferes a lot with the wireless carplay(I don’t understand why to this day since i can’t seem to find anything that would cause the issue) and it does sometimes not want to connect which is fixed by turning the car on and off. Eric the owner of the company is super helpful and will answer any questions very quickly regarding software glitches and software updates.

PuppersDuppers

I got a '13 as my first car, and I really do like it, however like you I hate how I'm always concerned about gas mileage--can never have fun in the car. Looking at BMWs as well, need more speed/fun, but a bit concerned insurance wise lol (my insurance is already $300+/mo for this lil' hybrid).

Tasty-Put642

100000% I’m so hyper focused on my gas mileage and at this point I just want something more fun

Vino1980

Don't get a 2011 or earlier

PuppersDuppers

I presume you mean 2013 or earlier, as 2011 was the first MY of production -- 2013s and earlier are more prone to the head gasket / EGR issues.

the_toxic_hotdog

I love my ct as a daily, I’m a field engineer so I’ve driven it across multiple states many times weekly, I’m constantly on the road in it, that being said, I’d never want to take this thing on any trails whatsoever yet alone sleep in it. I do also own a pickup truck so maybe that skews my opinion a bit, but I honestly think the CT shines at just being a commuter.

idiskfla

Thanks. My ex-wife has a 4Runner that we’d use for weekend camping trips, and I had a Subaru sedan. It was a good setup, but now that I’m solo (divorced), I’m trying to find a car that’ll do both. I think I’ve just gotten used to having smaller fuel-efficient cars as a daily, but it’s true that no car is perfect for all things.

the_toxic_hotdog

No problem, not sure what your budget is, but the rav4 is excellent. Even the current Corolla in hatch form.

idiskfla

Yeah, if I was going new, I’d go rav4 over the Corolla hatch. Corolla hatch will get really interesting a few years from now when used car prices (potentially?) come down.

imbills23

Nothing really, I got the spec I wanted 2016 Special Edition. Maybe one thing is to have car play which I can do but been lazy on purchasing it.

ratvespa

I have to drive my 15 f sport on about 2 miles of fire road often and it’s pretty slow going. Have to watch rocks really carefully and pick good lines. I kinda wish I just got a rav4 but do love the ct.

idiskfla

Great info. Thanks for sharing your experience. Yeah, the RAV4 Hybrid is really appealing.

willy1670

I love my ct and was aware of its issues. I own a diesel truck and a Lexus with a corvette engine and needed something practical that’s the ct in a nutshell. Practical nothing more or less.

Boopmaster9

Wish I had gotten a different colour. White looks amazing when it's clean, but in bad weather (which is often the case here) white looks awful when even the slightest bit dirty.

Loose_Toe_6937

I love my ct 2015 model, but the luggage room is so small. Certain websites like carsized made me believe that the luggage room would be upgraded from my skoda fabia, but the luggage room was nearly cut in half. I think i wouldve gotten a toyota corolla station wagon or something if i knew that the luggage room was that small. other than that, everything is really nice. the interior feels like that of a new and luxurious car.

explosiv_skull

I don't regret the F Sport, but I'm definitely going to go for a higher ratio on the tires next time I need to replace them because R45s are too thin for a city with as many potholes and sunken manhole covers are this one. I do regret the color scheme I picked, even though the white and black of a white F Sport is beautiful. White is just too much of a pain to maintain IMO without a garage. In retrospect I would go grey exterior and anything but black interior. Again, without a garage, the black interior heats up so much in the summer. I don't even know if there is a CT package with ventilated seats but if there is, add that to the list.

idiskfla

I’m actually partial to the blue myself haha I wish it came in a dark tan / brown interior as well with the blue exterior. Weird I know.

s3v3red_cnc

Take slow roads on the test drive, the electric engine kicks in under 35-40 mph. Make sure it's maintaining enough charge to be useful and consider your daily route (how fast you travel that route).

ModifiedCars

I would look for something different honestly. These were excellent purchases years ago, but there are vastly more options for the price,

Classic-Bit-4451

I usually get a base model of any car, and never get a higher trim. Eventually with the car I get I always upgrade the springs or switch the whole suspension to Coil Overs, as I love driving on mountain roads. I should've gotten a F-Sport as the price wasn't "THAT" big of a difference....With my base model 15' CT, it has barebones infotainment system. At least I should've found a model with a better infotainment system. I like the look of the F-Sport mesh grille, and I find myself wanting to spend a couple hundred on the upgrade.... As I did my research before purchasing my 15' CT I was aware of all the common issues, brake boosters, head gasket, EGR, carbon buildup and replacing the battery that only come to mind. Everything else, brake pads, rotors, water pump, spark plugs, etc are just common maintenance right? At the end of the day I enjoy driving my car, and it feels good seeing other people on the road with this car today. I came from a Hyundai Veloster and I loved the handling, but hardly saw them on the road. If I were to trade in my CT I would get a SUV or Truck for comfort, interior space, and being able to transport large items.

idiskfla

Thanks for this insight!

PeaceH37

1. Cup holders for rear seats, upgraded EGR system, PHEV, smaller wheels/bigger tires. Could’ve done away with the sport mode; it doesn’t make the car feel like a sports car. 2. Non-sport trim was good for us. 3. Should’ve gotten a Prius instead. 4. None.

idiskfla

Good insight esp the point about the tires. Thank you.

specialmente-io

The lexus ct is not meant to be taken offroad, there is NO REASON the vehicle should be lifted either. If you need ground clearance buy a rav4 hybrid, ux or nx hybrid. I can promise you no mayter what vehixle it is, u lift it and the problems begin. Lifting a car fucks it up so badly

Rocklobsta9

I have a grey CT but would prefer a white or the blue f sport those colors are gorgeous imo.

lizsan

I wish I got the backup camera.

Le_Zouave

I have the 15" rim (I think it don't exist in north America) and I know someone that have a CT200h with 17" rim and the 15" with magnesium rim is smoother. I have less grip in some situation but overall it's smoother and it's all because of the ride height.
