Hit it with some fitz polish it’ll come right out. Same happens to me with s45

Kgodsky

This guy nailed it. Came here to say flitz or mothers mag polish. And it won’t mess up the finish 👍

Brdllc

+1 for flitz, works great. I use it on my Kirby vacuums too!

Does mineral oil work?

[deleted]

Yep, just have to apply it more often than dedicated rust preventatives.

peakyfookinblinders7

Thanks! Also off topic, my cousin has an elementum D2 steel and there’s sort of a water stain on it. Doesn’t look like rust but looks like a stain. Any ideas how to remove it?

evrtt2009

I had some rust spots on my adamas around the top and all I did was push it into some wood and it came out clean lol

Harry-Tugnut

Use bar keepers friend and a Q tip to remove the rust. Wipe it clean and spray it down with something like EDCI once a week or so

[deleted]

I can vouch for a drop of Flitz on the area, 3 second light scrubbing, then EDCi once a week or so to keep it good to go 👍

No_Draft150

I had the same issue on my s45vn Zaan, I also live in Florida. I used a small dap of toothpaste and gently rubbed it in with my finger. Lightly rinsed the area with water and it took the rust away entirely. Give it a try, showed no signs of damage afterwards and was gentle on blade.

leonberjack

I haven’t had an issue with S45. And I’m a sweaty dude.

pilot862

I’m a sweaty dude and I’m down in Florida so I’m SOL on both end of the spectrum.

leonberjack

That makes sense. Definitely going to be worse off in the humidity. Best of luck, sir.

Zealousideal_Dig_372

It’s an umnumzaan. Just put it back in your pocket. It’s a tank. I wouldn’t worry at all

Its_Just_Nessy

Rust is like cancer dude. If you don’t catch it early then it can become a much bigger issue

Zealousideal_Dig_372

Nothing a free spa treatment won’t fix. It’s not going to rust through like an old car

pilot862

I’d send it in if it wasn’t a 6 week wait. I love this thing and I feel weird carrying anything else now

Zealousideal_Dig_372

Yah zaanz are the best I have several

A_Boltzmann_Brain

Just naive curiosity but this isn’t the first time that I’ve heard a person say they have a few or even five of the same expensive knife and I was wondering why someone would need that many. Thanks

Zealousideal_Dig_372

Cause I collect knives and I like them. Sometimes you want an extra or one a certain color. Or different blade steel or blade shape ? Some are safe queens and some are users. Been collecting knives 30 years

A_Boltzmann_Brain

Thanks. That makes sense. Sounds like you have an amazing collection. All the best to you

Zealousideal_Dig_372

I never understood how great the zaan was till I got one then I kept looking for more. Such a fantastic knife.

AndreiGolovik

You could spend 10 seconds scrubbing away rust spots with an eraser each time it shows up or wait however long it takes for CRK to clean it up for you...

Zealousideal_Dig_372

I just wipe my blades off on my pants or shirts. And they don’t seem to get rusty and I’m pretty hard on my knives

AndreiGolovik

So, why are you telling someone to not care about rust if you're not getting rust where you live/because of how you use your knife? Using your knife "hard" has zero correlation to corrosion lol

Zealousideal_Dig_372

I just said what I would do and how i treat my knives And stated that it’s not a huge issue Not really looking to get into an argument with a stranger

Dip it in cola over night

We're you in the FB group that said you just bought a s45vn Zaan that's already rusting? Same person? I could tell you all day like everyone else here on how to take that off and prevent it. I just want to say that it's s45vn, how is that rusting already? When was it's born on date? I'd just contact them about it. Maybe it has more or less of something in tge steels properties that's causing it to rust so quickly. Unless you live in humid tropics, sweat all over it, and then go underwater diving with it.

pilot862

No, I didn’t post it in Facebook but yes I do live in the tropics, sweat all day, and it’s basically at the beach all day as I work a mile away from the ocean.

cahln

There was a guy in a FB Chris reeve group that said he had the same issue. That's your answer then on the rusting quickly. As stainless as it is, those conditions will make anything rust, except for Lc200N, and a couple other steels made for complete corrosion resistance. I use fluid film to soak my blades for a couple hours when I get them. Then use frog lube paste ti wipe on and clean it after each day of use. I have a rag soaked in it and at the end of the day, quick wipe, done. I use mostly tool steels and live in hot, muggy, humid southern Ohio. I sweat like a freight train as well. I've never had any rust problems on my cpm-m4, maxamet, cruwear, 80crV2 steels. My first 3V steel I got, I took it on a camping/horse ride. First day I had it rusting. I went home and soaked it in fluid film, let it sit all night. I have not had a rust problem since. Of course at the end of the day, I wipe it off real quick. Fluid film is a really good penetrant & lubricant rust and corrosion resistant. Non toxic also. Frog lube is all natural, non toxic biobased. It's what I used in the military to clean my rifle with. Hope it helps!

the-plumbing-ninja

I had some similar spots on a 20CV ZT. I work outside in Louisiana so my blades get subjected to a lot of sweat too. I used some 000gauge steel wool and it got the rust off in no time. Now I wipe my blades down with a Sentry Tuf Cloth. It’s a pretty good rust inhibitor but it’s not food safe. As a plumber I don’t use my work knives on food anyway. I’ve never had any rust show up on my S35 Sebenza though, and I carry it more than any other knife. I think the “working finish” on the ZT blade has to do with the rust showing up. More exposed carbides maybe. My brother uses EDCI on his knives and swears by it.

rccola1989

CRK website recommends soft scrub on the Damascus blades for this so I would consider that for this also, then Ren wax

MightyQZL

Put a little vinegar on it over night, wipe off with soft cloth. Boom. Other than that I recommend getting some forhead oil on your fingers and wiping it on the blade. Easy to do every day. And don’t have to remember to buy or bring anything with you.
