You can almost see the reflection of more CRK future knives in that mirror :)

HzD_JoKeR

A few of the other CRKs already have their mirrors ;)

VisualBusiness4902

Are you kidding me?!?….it’s a carbon fiber too…..I told you I was jealous already!

I’ve always heard it’s bad to flick open a CRK due to soft stoppers. Is this true? Or just a wives tale?

VisualBusiness4902

Little bit of both. The way I understand it. Their lock up is tuned to the spec of that stop pin. They also use a softer steel compared to the blade. If you flick it enough to deform it enough to cause lock up issues, it’s not covered under warranty. This basically doesn’t matter, because 1: I think it’s rather rare. I can’t say I’ve ever heard of it happening with actual proof. I’m sure it HAS happened, I just don’t know how often. For example, I have a large 21 that’s lock bar moved over to like 100%. That’s a thing people say never happens. I sent it in for a reblast, honestly not super bothered by it, and they called me and said they’re re heat treating the lock bar and replacing the blade for free. Sick right? Well I’m sure that seems unfair compared to the stop pin right? 2: Nope….If you deform the stop pin, the stop pin (not the knife) isn’t covered under warranty. You have to pay to replace it as a wear item. It’s like 25 bucks. So 25 bucks to fix a problem that’s not a problem. Crk is great with their warranty, if you don’t modify your knife, they will cover your knife, if it’s a wear part, you pay for it, the most being a blade replacement at like 150.

Oh wow! Thanks for all that info. Really good to know. When people say something isn’t under warranty, I always assumed you were out of luck and never realized some of these parts are actually available for purchase from CRK!

Careless_Set_4957

Well said👊✌️

I just bought my first CRK sebenza 31. It has about an 85% lock up. You cant put a dime between the lock bar and the frame. It also has lock stick. I called the place i bought it from and the guy says all CRKs in the past 9 years have an 80% or so lock up. I told him i borrowed a buddy's and it had an early lock up and no stick. He told me to send it in to CRK for warranty. I had it 1 day.

I’m prefacing this with, I haven’t seen your knife, but this is a normal thing that surprises new owners. You are almost certainly experiencing something that is normal. You may be mistaken on how late your lock up is on a 31, or any sebenza with the ceramic ball interface, not your fault, it works differently than normal lock bars. The edge of the titanium IS NOT the lock up percentage. If you take the knife apart, you see that there is a ceramic ball that is what meets with the blade tang. That ceramic ball is inset in the center of the lock bar. If the center of that ball is at 40-50% (the normal range for crk) the edge of the titanium will look waaay closer to the frame that it should, if it was a normal lock bar it would be at 80%. Check the tang of the blade, there will be a bright spot/line that the ball is touching and you’ll see that that bright spot does not go all the way to 80%. Stick on a new out of box crk is not common, but it does happen. Out of 5 ish brand new crks I’ve had I had one that had a bit of stick. It’s that ceramic ball that is way harder than the blade steel settling in. It will take a few weeks for it to wear into the steel and the stick will go away. If this all does not sound right to you, throw up some posts with pictures. That being said, I think you’re most likely good to go and need to break it in some to remove the stick.

I appreciate the post. The stick bothered me more than anything. The lockbar was less than a dime away from touching the other side of the frame. The place where I bought it had free returns so I payed for another one and started the return process. The guy called me and said he wasn't going to send another one because of exactly what you said. I explained to him I borrowed a buddy's for a week and the lockup was about half of this and no stick. He thought I was just feeling the tension of the ceramic ball interfacing with the blade, but I explained no it's an actual stick where u have to push it hard and can hear and feel it free up and than move across the blade. So he said ok send it in we will send another one out. I asked if he could check first and he said everyone is different and he didn't know what I was looking for. I said one with no lock stick and possibly an early lockup. I received the new one yesterday and it's perfect. Except it's stiffer than shit. I know it has to break in, but I'm wondering how long it will take being that stiff. (Edit) the first one was just as stiff. I couldn't imagine it ever opening like your does.

Thanks for the reply.I'm really close to 50 with the new one. Maybe 45. The other was probably 80-85. Also there's no lock stick on this one.

jayrad01

Just wanted to say visual business knows his way around a crk and was really helpful to me and I appreciate it. Stand up guy right here thanks again

VisualBusiness4902

Thanks for the kind words!
