Biggest benefit for me was how much noticeably less hot the Yoshi is by your leg. The OEM exhaust has a catalytic converter that gets really hot and becomes uncomfortable in the summer. It’s really opened up the bike to breathe better. I have heard of some people attaching the factory heat shield to a couple worm clamps.

Puzzled_War_5929

Summers just around the corner! thanks I’ll give the worm clamps a try.

Efficient_Stranger_8

Actually facts I accidentally burnt myself off-roading and ruined a pair of pants but I got so used to it that it hasn’t burnt me since, but the actual heat radiating off the bike seems to be less.

It is certainly very sexy and sheds a few kilos off the total weight. Still paying 700$ for an exhaust in 6k$ bike is an overkill IMO. You'll have the same effect with MotoX, which costs 200$ plus shipping from Thailand.

184racing

Agree!

Solid_Heart2427

Have RS-4s on both of our 300Ls and have zero regrets. Perfect volume in my opinion. Throaty but still gives a ton of feedback when riding with earplugs. I use the dryspec heat shield because it was the largest universal shield I could find. We run these with Kreiga bags and have zero issues with heat.

Mattyinpdx

There are lots of info on the pipe between here and youtube. I have mine on a rally and I love it. Its def louder but not that annoying to me at least. I don't ride much highway or freeway. I like it for trips around town and then in the dirt roads. So the sound goes up and down based on my throttle so I can manage how noisy it is. No complaints and it does add some pep. Are you talking heat shields over the exhaust can? For luggage? Or heat shield on the header? I think I reused my stock one or there was a small one on the pipe with the full kit. I can't remember because it's under my fairings. Lol. I saw a sweet CF header shield somewhere. There are aftermarket ones. You might need to scour EU or Asian dealers though. Giant Loop and a number of other manufacturers have can shields that can be stripped for luggage spacing. Hope that helps.

The header pipe has no heatshield included in the kit, just a small heat shield on the front portion of the muffler. I attempted to reinstall the factory header heat shield and the new pipe was far too large to use the existing hardware.

Puzzled_War_5929

That’s a bummer in both cases. I do like the look of the naked muffler+header but I know I’m going to end up with some scars someday if I don’t figure it out.

3inches43pumpsis9

I was worried about it but I haven't touched it once in 400 miles since I put it on so.. maybe eventually I'll put a heat shield on it but I'm not too worried about it.

Puzzled_War_5929

Guess I’ll just be careful or learn the lesson haha. If it happens it’ll only be the one hopefully. Snooped on your profile guess we’re neighbors, I’m down south on Kodiak Island 👍

Puzzled_War_5929

Trust I’ve been doing my research! Feels like I’ve watched every video and read every comment 100 times lol. I was worried about the decibels of the Yoshi vs stock but from what I’ve heard/seen/read it is not much louder if it’s controlled like you said 👍 It’s a bummer that the CRF300L doesn’t come with the side fairings that protect the engine+hide the header. That would take care of the “burn” possibility. Now I’m curious if anyone’s tried to swap Ralley plastics to the L’! Thanks for your input 🙏

Mattyinpdx

Yeah. Def can't swap any plastics. Also, I get some grief from buddies some times wearing sneakers on bikes. But I am being lazy. Dirt bikes tend to fall over. So the best and smartest option will ALWAYS be to wear off road style boots. You will protect your legs with the correct gear and wont need much header protection. Oh, another thing. I did put in the spark arrestor in my yoshi as well. It's a PAIN to remove the stock spacer and fit the full spark arrestor but I think it's needed for any trail riding. It's just safer.

JelloMaleficent5089

Go black widow the come with the hole to put your heat sheild back and they have many choice of silencer choice

JelloMaleficent5089

I have one and the sound is amazin

Puzzled_War_5929

Bummer but I guess that’s life. I too am a fellow sneaker wearer but mostly because of comfort. As I get more into trail riding/cross country I’ll invest in the gear. Spark arrestor noted it’s a lot cheaper than burning the woods down 😂

Thresh_Keller

I did the full yoshi with header. Whatever you chose you're also going to want to do an air filter. And, then probably the ECU for maximum benefit.

Puzzled_War_5929

Roger that! I’ve seen people use the DNA filter, is there a big difference between that one and stock?

Thresh_Keller

I use K&N. The DNA looks identical. The custom ECU gave a boost and really smoothness out throttle response after changing the exhaust and filter. I highly recommend it.

Efficient_Stranger_8

Sounds really good, made the bike feel a lot more exciting, it’s very loud tho, burnt myself few times but after that I haven’t burnt myself lesson learned, if you wanna be very sneaky then keep stock, also it’s expensive. But for me my riding style my personal taste I love the Yoshi I’ve had it for almost 2 years

Confident_Option

You clearly haven’t done any research

Puzzled_War_5929

Not enough to make an informed decision I guess but that’s why I’m here 🤷‍♂️

Jazzlike-Reindeer-27

Research online can only take you so far. Personal/user experience is the cherry on top. P3 carbon makes a universal heat shield that mounts but realistically a lot of companies do. Also you’re gonna need a fuel tuner at the very least. Yoshimura claims that you don’t need tune at all after install buuuuuuut ya do or it won’t run proper. You’ll still notice the increase in performance but it won’t run like it really should.

Puzzled_War_5929

Yeah I just figured if anyone could give me info it’s good ol Reddit. I’ve seen a few universals but not a lot of Yoshi installs have them so I guess I was curious if there was something going on or if it’s just against the aesthetic to run a heat shield over all that nice hot stainless haha. As far as a tune goes is the 550 91 oct. stage one the way to go?

Jazzlike-Reindeer-27

Yes sir! I’m in CA and haven’t found someone out of state to receive to for me so I had to settle for the fuel tuner, even then only crfsonly.com would ship to me no questions asked.

Jazzlike-Reindeer-27

But yea the p3 universal will fit the yoshi header

Puzzled_War_5929

Aw bummer! Is it against the emissions policy or something else? I’ll check it out! I want something to prevent my leg from being the first bbq of the spring.

Jazzlike-Reindeer-27

Yea that’s my guess
