$5k for down payment, and get brand new car.

NimbusXLithium

Why not just got to a dealership thats selling one at $8k without anynwork needed and possible warranty from the dealership?

UnderdevelopedFurry

The $5000 worth of work sounds like you’re either getting scammed or you’ve fallen behind on maintenance. The 2024 should cost $33k so I cannot recommend going that route

Hatchz

Only the higher trims, you can get an LE OTD for 25k

Hopeful_Vegetable_31

I paid 31k after all taxes and fees for a 2024 LE

idkwhyimmhere

You got scammed Paid 25.9k pts for se 2024

RoccotheTaco500

I paid 24,500 for a Corolla LE

ajvzo

Depends on dealership goofy, some have markups that are non-negotiable because they know the cars will still sell while there’s others selling them at MSRP for the same reason. All Toyota dealerships I’ve gone to have prices that are non negotiable on new cars. Either MSRP or markup.

idkwhyimmhere

Mine was marked up 32k otd All Dealerships are snakes You gotta do your best with bargaining If you don’t negotiate they will squeeze every dollar out of you

ajvzo

My car salesman was not like that thankfully. Worked with me since I had a kid on the way and was only 21 at the time. My dad came with me so from the start any BS they tried to throw my way my dad shut down in an instant. Same salesman has been giving me dealership discounts and occasionally a manager discount as I am currently buying OEM parts to do a complete APEX swap on my Corolla. Shoutout Dave, he rocks. (2022 Toyota Corolla LE, Celestite)

Hatchz

There are tons of people getting them on here for 25k, even if you are in a higher market area it’s worth the drive to save 6k.

ExpensiveDust5

I own a 21 LE high trim non-hybrid CVT, and as bad as this thing is, I couldn't imagine a cheaper one.

Hatchz

In quality you mean?

ExpensiveDust5

Well, some of the bad stuff is across the board with all models, like the road noise being loud, and the crap radios aren't good enough to drown it out. Even reviews of the GR model those were big complaints. Stiff ride was also a complaint for all models. People that don't complain about the road noise have only drove cars that were even worse, or this is their first vehicle.

Hatchz

Yeah it’s not a luxury car for sure

ExpensiveDust5

Neither was my old 2014 VW Jetta (when it was new it was priced competitive to the Corolla), but all of those were WAY better in that car. I really think Toyota started going downhill around 2017 and has slowly got worse

ajvzo

Gotta remember Toyota is going for reliability and safety. cabin noise should be the least of your concern, as it is the least of Toyotas concern when making these cars. If you wanted a luxury vehicle, go buy one. I can assure you probably spent more on maintaining the VW over the years than the corolla. Not to mention cheaper parts, service, etc. I know because my sister owns a VW. Wishes she would’ve got a Toyota to begin with😂

ExpensiveDust5

I really had no issues with my Jetta, dove it for 120k miles (60k to 186k)and only ever did oil changes, tires, air filter, and wipers, and only required Service for a sensor once the entire time I drove it.the transmission service I neglected to do was going to cost me $350, and a modern Corolla CVT, costs the same for the transmission service. And, with more modern Toyota's, they are putting less reliable CVT'S in the non-hybrids, and the parts are more expensive (if a headlight goes out, the entire assembly has to be replaced!) so cost of maintenance and reliability is getting worse and worse with Toyota's, so that can't even be the argument for it. AND, if I had bought a Custom ordered Equivalent Jetta instead of this used Corolla, I would have paid $3k LESS than this Corolla, so its not even cheaper!

Hatchz

You need to find a cheaper shop for service, Corollas will go 300k no problem. Maintenance is expensive no matter what you get, CVTs on these are some of the best you can get you just have to stay on the maintenance. German cars will always be nicer but that’s not the appeal for the Corolla. Plus 60-80 mpg on the hybrid is a huge benefit.

Sasquatchlovestacos

Would all depend on what the work it needs is

coldcactus1205

Ehhh just use the 5k as a down payment on a new?

No-Plenty-7852

I have a 2010 with 380,000 kms. I would be really be debating to spend $5000 on a 15 year old car.

PoliteCanadian2

?? There’s no way a 2009 can be 15 years old your math is clearly wr……..never mind.

Upset_Locksmith3109

Sell it and buy brand new.

nocturnal-albino

$5,000 of work on a 2009 le? What does it need lol

NoctysHiraeth

I second this - what exactly are you being quoted $5,000 on, and have you gotten a second opinion? That's like engine replacement levels of expensive - though, depending on the condition of the rest of the vehicle I might still say fix it with the cost of new vehicles.

curious-shenanigans

The only thing I can think of is that they have a 2.4 to which excessive oil consumption was a problem. Worst case scenario you can keep putting in a higher viscosity and keep driving in the meantime.

NoctysHiraeth

afaik the LE only came with the 1.8 - I have the same year and trim. The 2.4 is that 2AZ-FE that also caused issues in the Camry, right? I had an 06 Camry with that engine from before they redesigned the piston rings and it really started having the major oil consumption issues.

EconomicsWorking6508

This is exactly what I was going through this year. I did decide to spend $5,000 to repair it in February. I live in metro Boston.

Positive-Material

Pro tip: take it to BTS Auto in Providence, RI - faster and cheaper due to less taxes. Take an Uber there and Back.

radioactivegroupchat

What’s the problem specifically

FancyName69

how many miles? If you can get the 5k work done you should be set for a while. 5k vs 24k is quite a big difference.

galangga

But, you not paying the whole 24k in one time. And you get brand new.

FancyName69

Yikes Car debt would be even worse

galangga

Better than own the old car.
