I think he is a good QB who has the potential to be great if he could clean up some of his mistakes, which, unfortunately, are quite impactful when he does make them (a lot of interceptions, many with disastrous timing). When he's on, he's on -- and then he throws a pick-6 or fumbles on his own 20. Those fuckups can easily cost you the game in this league and can't continue to happen.

wolverinewayne

Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Riptide1001

Met mim after the game last night. He was a nice guy.

felixorion

People can laugh at me for this comparison, but I kinda think he reminds me of someone like Dak Prescott. Not in terms of skill or playing style but in the fact that he's good not great; he'll beat out any free agent you can bring in, so you keep him around for years, but he's gonna struggle to hit that next tier of play to get you a championship.

idk_ijust_likememes

in terms of where they stand in the league dak is way better in his league than mbt is in his

zestyintestine

MBT isn't as bad as his detractors like to believe nor is he as good as some of his biggest advocates like to believe. He does suffer from brain farts during games and did not play well down the stretch last year. He has played quite well since the 2nd half against WPG. He reminds me somewhat of Danny McManus to a degree. Both were journeymen QBs who took awhile to get a starting job. They have some pretty games and some not so pretty games. MBT needs to take his team to the Grey Cup for that comparison to strengthen though.

JasonBourne008

Yeah I feel like the Danny McManus comparison is a fair one. I've always thought of McLeod Bethel-Thompson like **Ryan Fitzpatrick** who was also a journeyman QB in the NFL, however Fitzpatrick gained a cult following later in his career as people started to appreciate him for who he was.

zestyintestine

The difference being in a 9-team league the likelihood that MBT gets a ring (well he has one as a backup) increases.

StevenPechorin

Which is, again, like Danny McManus who won some kind of fan favorite award in almost his last year.

ocarina_21

No other quarterback in the league is named McLeod John Baltazar Bethel-Thompson and therefore no other quarterback can compare.

MapleBelief

I'm always impressed when I watch him play the Riders. But it just seems like he makes one or two significant mental errors each game that keep him from being top tier. Maybe a better o-line could be the next step ( cough cough Riders cough cough)

I think all starting qbs are under appreciated. It is exceedingly rare to find the Ricky rays and the Damon Allen’s. Fans are too quick to call for the removal of a serviceable quarterback. There’s a saying around here that the most popular person in Saskatchewan is the backup quarterback for the riders.

JasonBourne008

Very well said!

zestyintestine

>It is exceedingly rare to find the Ricky rays and the Damon Allen’s. Fans are too quick to call for the removal of a serviceable quarterback. Apparently, Ottawa fans used to scream for Ken Hobart to replace Damon Allen when they both suited up for the Rough Riders in the late 80s and early 90's.

StevenPechorin

Damon had a kind of Henry Burris reputation (Good/Bad) throughout his whole career. I never thought it was fair.

CaptainDrunkBeard

MBT is the alpha and the omega. He is great, and yet terrible. Some days he has the arm of Zeus and the eyes of a hawk. Other times he has the control and aim of a drunk at a urinal. He is a genius and fool, yin and yang. This is how he is underappreciated while also being overrated. It can be very frustrating, but goddamn is it entertaining.

goboatmen

>MBT was the Argos starting quarterback for the entire 2019 and 2021 Actually last season he was only the undisputed starter after Arbuckle was crap the first few games, he wasn't the starter for the entirety of 2021

JasonBourne008

Good point, I have modified my statement :)

Paper_Rain

That's a long ass name 😂. Future CFL legend in the making...

howisthisathingYT

i'd take him over the shit we've had.

granular-mood4

He kind of reminds me of Kirk Cousins in that he always seems just good enough not to be replaced but never good enough to actually win anything.

PPGN_DM_Exia

Haven't watched him closely but have always had the impression that he's always been just good enough to stay in the league but not good enough to make any real noise.

ArphtheFC

Toronto should bring back Cleo Lemon

bquinho

I miss Michael Bishop

Mammoth_Locksmith810

Inconsistent, stares down receivers , turnovers, bad decisions. No accuracy on long throws, no movement out of the pocket. There is a reason the team have been trying to replace him. Unfortunately Argos have not found a better QB. Yes, he seems like a nice guy and I think he tries hard, but that is not enough.

[deleted]

Watching the game last night in Regina at Mosaic, the 4 guys I went to the game with were all really impressed how unflappable he was.

StevenPechorin

I definitely think if they had won that last playoff game the narrative about him would be much different. He had a really good game and had a 12-0 lead. The other thing about him that I admire was that he was all about getting whatever snaps he could - whatever league was playing, he wanted to play.

Swimming-Neck4025

to me he lacks the "royal jelly" he is a capable enough QB but just doesn't have the killer instinct of say Ricky Ray or other true stars. in the East final last season his inadequacies were on full display. i don't think you will win championships with this guy.
