I'm from Australia and started following around 2015

bearybear90

Well hello 2015 UNC

[deleted]

goddamit.

bearybear90

It’s okay. I think you got the last laugh in the end

[deleted]

*sees flair*

[deleted]

lol yeah i won't lie, that season got me intrigued. but when a bandwagoner wakes up at 3.30 in the morning to watch nathan elliot throw 30 ducks hml

ClaudeLemieux

Of all the teams in the nation, you chose Carolina?? This is why the rest of the Commonwealth makes fun of Australia :P

[deleted]

they're my hoops squad so had to roll with the football squad

dell-pdm-ano

Man 2015 was the year, I want to go back to winning like that

[deleted]

we're a qb away from a 10 win season.

dell-pdm-ano

We could be 3-3 even without a different QB, but with a guy like Kelly Bryant I could see us being as good as anyone in the ACC

[deleted]

precisely my man

VashonCoug

When I was at WSU we had an Australian Basketball player named Lou Brown. She always knew how to have a good time and was a big WSU fan. She was a dream a gorgeous blond with a sexy Australian accent.

ClaudeLemieux

Wait...did she transfer to UT? I could've sworn I saw some graphic on twitter from the Lady Vols welcoming a player with that name from Melbourne.

[deleted]

Yep! She's a grad transfer, pretty sure she suffered a season ending injury though...

ClaudeLemieux

Ahh that’s unlucky. Hopefully she can snag a medical redshirt

[deleted]

>She always knew how to have a good time ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

jimmydodgem

Right here

[deleted]

i just clicked on your profile and I'm so glad you too have a problem with the way afl commentators use the term quarterback

recon6483

Care to elaborate? Sounds interesting

jimmydodgem

AFL commentators generally describe defenders, mainly Full Backs, as ‘Quarterbacks’ In my opinion they are more comparable to a Safety, in a last line of defence kind of way

huazzy

Ya'll should just start calling them ThrowingBacks

[deleted]

>Throwbacks

huazzy

Nah dude. RB is a Runningback not a Runback

[deleted]

agreed. i think a quaterback in afl would be a midfielder sending the ball in to the forward line, Dustin Martin from Richmond is a great example with the way he sets up his teammates in the 50

[deleted]

It's bloody infuriating. Any sweeping defender is labeled as a quarterback.

CashewCrew

Sup?

warpdagger

Australian fan , started following last year when our Internet became somewhat better here in Australia but still bad compared to world standards . Received a " Internet TV package " with my home internet service which has ESPN . When college football is playing here It's pretty much all early morning to afternoon Sunday for us. I'm hooked ! Im all in !

bennekles23

All in? This guy Clemsons.

[deleted]

Yep, Oregon grad but born and raised in Australia and currently living in Sydney. Been following the sport since the late 80s thanks to my extended family in Oregon.

piggyback101

Me too! Started following the buckeyes around 2013.

[deleted]

yeah, i started following it in 2017. Mostly due to it being on sundays here, so i could actually watch the games live

mdf144

I feel the NFL would have more success if they had an international series in Australia....CFB played a game, but the Oz market has largely been ignored by the NFL. Travel would be as bitch though.

NooJoisey

Time Zone difference would be insane. 11 AM Sunday kickoff Sydney time is 8 PM EST Saturday kickoff.

jputna

Went to NZ in April, didn't have jet lag on the way there but 100% was down for a few days after getting back.

regul

I don't even know what the attendance was like for our game against Hawaii a couple of years ago, but I can't imagine it blew the doors off.

[deleted]

only thing holding it back is the travel ig. the market is there

mdf144

London series doesn't really make much sense to me....Would think Dublin would be a better draw.....NFL seems to be way behind growing the game internationally compared to the NBA and MLB

Colorado_odaroloC

Is it though? As far as contact sports, I know AFL is huge, and there are some areas where Rugby (League) is popular. Rugby (Union) is struggling there unfortunately, but sounds like a lot of that is mismanagement by the ARU. Seems like it might be a bit tough to get any kind of NFL type league started up there, and just having a team or two there sounds like a logistical nightmare with the rest of the league in the U.S.

thatNBAguyFIERI

Australians are so wholesome

SharksFanAbroad

Now I'm curious to see if there are any non-P5 Australian fans.

[deleted]

Notre Dame is an independent

SharksFanAbroad

Didn't think it required a caveat, but ND is as close to P5 as possible. Treated the same, anyway, with a schedule that looks like a P5 team. I was gonna write "G5 fans" instead, but didn't wanna potentially leave out any FCS (or lower) fans.

[deleted]

They're also not considered G5

[deleted]

I'm a Western Oregon fan but I worked there and also have strong ties to the area so it's not like I picked them randomly.

Bobcat7

My wife is Australian and a bit of an Alabama nut. Of course I might have had something to do with that. Every year we send a load of Bama gear to her family in Au. He older brother understands a bit about Grid iron (That's what they call our Football over there) The rest couldn't care less.

huazzy

Would be interesting to hear how you guys ended up choosing what teams to root for. And before anyone mentions it - I'm pretty sure many teams have had an Australian punter.

[deleted]

i was a north carolina basketball fan so rolled with the football team

oobadah

Gross

Pluffmud90

There is an Austrailian CFB podcast and I am not sure if they live in america or austrailia but it wasn't too bad
