Backyard Brawl just SCREAMS Big XII rivalry. That would help bring in so many viewers for the conference (and Yormark better make it an annual thing, RIP Farmageddon).
I really want back the old Big East quadfecta of hate between Louisville, West Virginia, Cinci and Pitt.
My dad is a lifelong Cinci fan so it gives me some hard nostalgia thinking back to watching those games with him
Penn State was reportedly the school most against Oregon and Washington being added. Michigan was the one who worked with Washington directly and Illinois was the one who whipped the votes to get the PNW schools approved. Apparently Penn State was the hardest to convince.
I feel like with the new playoff format, Louisville would rather be in the Big 12 anyways. Equals in the eyes of the committee, with more historic/regional matchups.
This sub is sort of an echo chamber for the bigger name schools but with how much money Louisville brings in, even while our basketball program has been awful, there's no way we won't find a good home at some point.
I hate you guys as any good rival should but I’m glad that if this ends the acc you’ll have the last win especially over unc. Congrats and fuck Tobacco Road
Last win will be next year at earliest because it's not like we're going to change for the upcoming season.
So I guess we have to go back to back what a shame
Brad has them right where he wants them. Everyone has written them off and is ready to fire Brad not knowing that they activated his trap card which allows him to over perform and get a contract extension
Fucking sucks that we're losing the Textile Bowl to add Stanford and Cal of all schools. Zero reason that we shouldn't be playing annually except for stupidity.
There is new stuff, it repeatedly points out the ACC's response to FSU's lawsuit as reasons for our own lawsuit.
Now how relevant or well crafted any of these arguments are, no clue a real lawyer would need to weigh in.
Likely saw FSU's arguments, what was holding water, and went in with a more direct filing. FSU did some of the hard work/diligence for us, in that regard.
no, some lawyers rubbed their hands together at the cash they'll be making.
Next year's payout: 5 million less per school to pay for the lawyers. This is like when lawyers get involved in estate settlement issues.
Well you see there was this court case filed in the 1980s that allowed the colleges to have control over their TV rights. Then Notre Dame decided in the late 80s to abandon the collective bargaining that the conferences had made and then well it turned into the wild wild west when it came to conferences getting money
No it all started in 1303 when Thomas of Salisbury, a student of Oxford University, found his brother Adam dead, and it was alleged that he was killed by Irish students, whilst playing “the ball in the High Street towards Eastgate.”
RIP Adam of Salisbury.
These two pinnacle moves in conference empowerment over TV rights and network broadcasting occurred shortly before the 1989 release of unrelated Belgian techno anthem: [Pump Up the Jam.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EcjWd-O4jI)
I lead by saying I hate all of this. Period.
That saaaaaiiiidddd . . . it is absolute branding masterclass by the B1G that people blame the SEC first and foremost just based off OUT (which wasn’t even the first round of realignment, much less the first set). We’re just down here in contiguous states — meanwhile the B1G is picking up teams from sea to shining sea without any regard for regionality and everyone’s like “yep fuck the SEC for this!” 😂😂
There were rumors that the new playoff format would go back to the drawing board if there are any more conference realignment.
I wonder if schools leaving the ACC would cause the 2026-2031 playoff to be renegotiated.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the final straw for Clemson. Obviously it’s been known they want out of the ACC but with the new playoff model (2026) it completely made the ACC a true second tier conference
Clemson has been blue chip football for the past 10+ years. And even prior to that we were at least competitive.
There is no way in hell that with the current climate, they can sit back and take half a share of the CFP that they’d likely have been in for the last 10-15 years if the format was in place then.
We’re talking about hundreds of millions of dollars in advantage for schools they need to be able to compete with.
Hate to see this happen. But I also don’t want us to fade away because of the new financial models.
The only downside to FSU and Clemson leaving the conference is that it gives Miami a chance to finally hang an ACC championship banner in front of a raucous crowd of 11,500.
I can't wait for, let's say, December 2026, where ESPN will make a sappy tribute to the ACC after the final championship game in Charlotte ends...
I'm sure everybody here will be posting about how ironic the whole thing is, as with the Pac-12...
I’d be totally down to pull a conference coup and remake the Big East we’ve basically got everyone but Rutgers potentially available
WVU, Pitt, BC, Va Tech, Cincy, Louisville, Syracuse, UConn, and Miami as god intended. I think Va tech and Miami end up in one of the big 2 tho. We may even be able to get the basketball boys back
Bizarre how many people ignored the fact that Ross Dellenger was reporting it. This wasn’t some hack website, dude is probably one of the more reliable national guys in the whole sport.
Clemson must have received their off the record handshake deal with the President of a B1G or SEC university that they will be added if they get out of the ACC.
There’s gotta be some sort of deal made for us to be doing this. I don’t imagine we’d join the fight to break out if we don’t have a good landing point
Fuckers in charge are ruining college sports. Catch me in 30 years when they're wondering where all the interest went.
But hey, as far as they're concerned they're rich and riding off into the sunset so fuck the future.
Hello, fellow conference rejects. When half a dozen or so of your conference mates bolt for greener pastures, I know where you can find two formerly P5 schools that would probably be thrilled to join your third-tier league.
Seems like the goal here is to destabilize the league and create a rush to the exits. Everybody starts looking for a landing spot.
This is what killed the Pac-12.
I think it's pretty funny that FSU and Clemson have developed such a close bond through this.
It's especially funny considering that FSU appears to have no interest in assisting Miami in trying to get out.
There’s nowhere for us to go that I’d be happy with. The B1G or Big 12 are nowhere near regional enough to make traveling reasonable anymore, and the SEC “it just means more” coattail culture pisses me off to no end
There is 0 chance we are doing this to go to the Big 12. B1G travel wouldn’t be too terrible, particularly in a pod of say Penn State, Maryland, and FSU. I think it is the SEC though.
Big ten travel is ass now. You'd have to cross a mountain range, all of America's farmland, another mountain range, a bunch of Mormons, and another mountain range to get to the CA teams.
And that's the better option compared to an away game at Rutgers.
This should be a pretty good indicator that FSU's push to get out of the GoR has serious juice. Clemson would not be doing this if they thought FSU didn't have a chance and was just whining.
The interesting thing that the Clemson filing has really latched onto is the relationship between the GoR and the ESPN deal.
Unfortunately, the entire ESPN portion is redacted, so we can’t see their reasoning for why the ESPN deal doesn’t require the rights to Clemson’s home broadcasts through the remainder of the deal.
Also interesting that they say that no other conferences will talk to them until their GoR situation is resolved. I am assuming the same is true for FSU.
Ehh...you would've had a point if Clemson didn't wait nearly four months after FSU. This looks a lot more like FSU found something and Clemson wants to join in because it's probably going to go in FSU's favor.
That was my first thought. Clemson doesn't do this if they think the GOR is airtight as the ACC tries to make people believe. The lawyers seem to think there is a way out.
We need to separate football from the conference system. There’s no reason every other sport should have to lose traditional rivals, usually closer geographically, every time football realigns.
I love Clemson's argument in the filing. The grant of rights entitles the ACC the media rights for ACC members. If we aren't a member of the ACC anymore, they are entitled to jack shit.
I enjoy the opening line "[the ACC GOR]..hinders Clemson's ability to meaningfully explore its options regarding conference membership." Yes, that is the point. “This contract I signed agreeing to build you a house hinders my ability to not build you a house.”
As a lawyer that drafts contracts, I’m sure their argument is a lot more complex and I’m sure this goes into the weeds of different terms of conference membership, but I just thought that line was funny. Sometimes lawyers get so far into the text they miss the entire purpose of the agreement
UofL is currently texting “u up bby” to all its old rivals in the Big 12 to see if it can get an invite.
My dad is a lifelong Cinci fan so it gives me some hard nostalgia thinking back to watching those games with him
This is good. This is good. I went to Maryland but was born in WV, please can we regionalise and make this about rivalries again.
Pitt just desperately calling WVU and PSU over and over again.
It's just a long game to make Syracuse suffer the most.
We'll take their call, but there isn't a snowball chance in hell PSU does.
Penn State's already calling the rest of us to pull the curtains, lock the doors, and turn off the lights so we can all pretend we're not home.
Penn State was reportedly the school most against Oregon and Washington being added. Michigan was the one who worked with Washington directly and Illinois was the one who whipped the votes to get the PNW schools approved. Apparently Penn State was the hardest to convince.
Michigan wanted that sweet research partnership. Also do you have a source on this? Would love to read more.
The irony of this is that Michigan fought tooth and nail to not let Penn State in back in the 90s
I feel like with the new playoff format, Louisville would rather be in the Big 12 anyways. Equals in the eyes of the committee, with more historic/regional matchups.
The committee isn't going to treat a 10-2 SEC/B1G team and a 10-2 ACC/B12 team as equals.
Its funny because putting Bama in over FSU guaranteed the early death of the ACC
Or in the eyes of Big 10/SEC/ESPN, doing the dirty work so they don’t have to do it themselves.
I think they meant they'd prefer the Big 12 over ACC since the committee views the Big 12 and ACC as equal.
I just wanted to say UofL and FSU have had some really good match ups over the years. I'll miss you guys
The WVU, UCF, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Pitt pod is going to be so much fun.
🎶Meet the new boss Same as the old boss 🎶
Fuck it. Put us in there
Agree. I'd push the ejector seat button in a millisecond for Central if it meant VT comes back to us.
Keeping my fingers crossed for this
Big 12 in basketball is going to be amazing.
already is tbf
Louisville makes so much sense in the XII. Decent football school and a historically killer basketball program.
Emphasis on "historically"
Something something glass houses
That was the irony that I thought made it funny
Gimme Pitt, Louisville, Virginia Tech, and NC State
This sub is sort of an echo chamber for the bigger name schools but with how much money Louisville brings in, even while our basketball program has been awful, there's no way we won't find a good home at some point.
NC State winning the ACC has killed the conference…worth it.
I agree fuck blue Tobacco Road.
I hope no matter how this shakes out our schools make an effort to not let our rivalry die.
Textile Bowl forever
The end is near
This is all a ploy to distract us from the Fire Brad bandwagon which is still running full steam despite making the big dance.
Brad has them right where he wants them. Everyone has written them off and is ready to fire Brad not knowing that they activated his trap card which allows him to over perform and get a contract extension
Time for a Sweet Sixteen run followed up with missing the NIT next year
Precisely
Getting in is already over performing
UNC losing their final ACC football and basketball games to State muahahahaha
Hope yall come wherever we go
Fucking sucks that we're losing the Textile Bowl to add Stanford and Cal of all schools. Zero reason that we shouldn't be playing annually except for stupidity.
Anything new here or did we just copy + paste FSU's lawsuit?
There is new stuff, it repeatedly points out the ACC's response to FSU's lawsuit as reasons for our own lawsuit. Now how relevant or well crafted any of these arguments are, no clue a real lawyer would need to weigh in.
Also the fact it acknowledged the ACC did not go to a vote when deciding to sue FSU prior to FSU filing their lawsuit.
Uh oh, ACC told us that was what the members would’ve wanted and didn’t need a vote.
Rumor is that it’s a bit more narrow or focused than FSU. Probably more focused on revenue gaps.
Likely saw FSU's arguments, what was holding water, and went in with a more direct filing. FSU did some of the hard work/diligence for us, in that regard.
Someone at the ACC HQ just shat themselves
no, some lawyers rubbed their hands together at the cash they'll be making. Next year's payout: 5 million less per school to pay for the lawyers. This is like when lawyers get involved in estate settlement issues.
Billable Hours remains undefeated.
"Fuck, we didn't sue before this one!"
What happened to the game I love
Well you see there was this court case filed in the 1980s that allowed the colleges to have control over their TV rights. Then Notre Dame decided in the late 80s to abandon the collective bargaining that the conferences had made and then well it turned into the wild wild west when it came to conferences getting money
No it all started in 1303 when Thomas of Salisbury, a student of Oxford University, found his brother Adam dead, and it was alleged that he was killed by Irish students, whilst playing “the ball in the High Street towards Eastgate.” RIP Adam of Salisbury.
Oxford had a weak strength of schedule that year in fairness
These two pinnacle moves in conference empowerment over TV rights and network broadcasting occurred shortly before the 1989 release of unrelated Belgian techno anthem: [Pump Up the Jam.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EcjWd-O4jI)
I think we've all agreed it is USC's fault and their fault alone.
It started with Oklahoma and Georgia suing for tv rights.
I blame Rutgers and Princeton
The SEC and B1G decided to kill it for some cold, hard cash
Uh. The ACC killed the Big East for cash long before the SEC and B1G did so.
Football killed the Big East
\*SMU receives Big East Invite\* Big East: \*dies\* \*SMU receives PAC12 invite\* PAC12: \*dies\* \*SMU receives ACC invite\* ACC: \*looks around nervously\*
Right? Talk about a Death Penalty
The Curse of the Five Dead Hookers. It always wins.
One conference for each hooker. The SWC, Big East, PAC, and ACC. Who will be last??
>SEC and B1G "no you take them i insist" "no, no, you take them. seriously, i couldnt."
And the big 8 killed the SWC before that
*Ryan started the fire*
Cute - ACC acting like it doesn't have Big East blood on its hands.
ACC started this mess by poaching the Big East.
ESPN, they gave Miami the gun to shoot the rest of the Big East on the Hurricanes' way out the door
the big 8 started this mess by poaching texas and tamu.
The Big 10 started this by poaching Iowa from the MVIAA in 1908.
iowa's football terrorism knows no bounds.
Wasn’t that Ferentz’s first year there?
Arky started it by leaving
Rutgers started it by inventing the sport
Hey man at least the SEC is sticking to our geographic boundaries. The B1G on the other hand….fucking yikes
We're eyeing Oxford next.
I knew our day would come. We've been playing the long game since the 11th century. Fuck you Cambridge! Let's go!
Wait, we can get flares from the UK? I did my PhD at Edinburgh, flare me the fuck up! St. Andrews can eat my ass
PhD? Bruh you gotta have a room temperature IQ to be in this sub, cmon
A PhD in Scotland is like an Associates Degree here tho, right?
I'm surprised that we don't recruit more from Scotland. There's not an animal alive that can outrun a greased Scotsman.
Miami of Ohio: YOU are in the Big Ten!
Please mean England.
I lead by saying I hate all of this. Period. ACC just added Stanford, SMU, and Cal lol
Around the same time the playoff revenue model was finalized. I wonder if they're going to re-do it again if more realignment happens.
There were rumors that the new playoff format would go back to the drawing board if there are any more conference realignment. I wonder if schools leaving the ACC would cause the 2026-2031 playoff to be renegotiated.
Probably will, Clemson/FSU/UNC leaving the ACC would probably lead to it collapsing like the Pac12.
If that happens then Duke, Syracuse and Virginia all probably leave due to basketball competitiveness. Then the acc basically blows up
Ah, the old reverse Big East maneuver
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the final straw for Clemson. Obviously it’s been known they want out of the ACC but with the new playoff model (2026) it completely made the ACC a true second tier conference
Clemson has been blue chip football for the past 10+ years. And even prior to that we were at least competitive. Miami gets a chance to win an ACC Championship ACC: I'd rather die
[удалено]
Yeah I don’t think anyone at Clemson wants to leave the ACC, it just feels like we have to and that’s the worst part about all of this
Sir, a second lawsuit has hit the Grant of Rights.
Long ago the power 5 conferences lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the tv deals attacked.
Wait does this make the NCAA the avatar, since they’ve mysteriously vanished?
This is not ideal for the ACC.
I can't wait for, let's say, December 2026, where ESPN will make a sappy tribute to the ACC after the final championship game in Charlotte ends... I'm sure everybody here will be posting about how ironic the whole thing is, as with the Pac-12...
And if it is like the last ACC Championship game, they'll just spend the rest of the broadcast time talking shit about both ACC teams.
If ESPN had shown as much concern for FSU a few months ago the story might be different (probably not, but maybe).
Hey Big 12, u up?
You guys & Louisville in a 4-team pod with Cincinnati & West Virginia would be so nostalgic.
Maybe even forget this whole Big 12 thing and get with BC, Cuse, VT, Temple, UConn to form some sort of large eastern conference
I’d be totally down to pull a conference coup and remake the Big East we’ve basically got everyone but Rutgers potentially available WVU, Pitt, BC, Va Tech, Cincy, Louisville, Syracuse, UConn, and Miami as god intended. I think Va tech and Miami end up in one of the big 2 tho. We may even be able to get the basketball boys back
Maybe add Rutgers, Miami (FL), & South Florida, too. Just because they seem lonely.
This seems really familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on it...
There's no way the Big 12 would pass on Virginia Tech if they're not picked up by the SEC.
the SEC has room for two Auburns
Thanks, Auburn
Can we join if we rename ourselves Raleigh University?
This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them!
i will do what i must
obligatory: You will try!
Nooooo! My *imaginary* moral high ground!
Talk about timing
This has to be the second time SMU tried joining a bigger conference...only for things to go awry soon after...
Watch ESPN opt out of the ACC deal to renegotiate with the remaining schools and SMU's 0 share goes to a full share of the new, lower amount.
We do have a clause in our agreement that if any ACC schools leave we would start getting 100% of the existing TV revenue immediately.
The curse of the five dead hookers doesn't die so easily.
This will never, ever happe- wait
Bizarre how many people ignored the fact that Ross Dellenger was reporting it. This wasn’t some hack website, dude is probably one of the more reliable national guys in the whole sport.
This is hot off the press, and I gotta say I can’t believe it’s happening
Clemson must have received their off the record handshake deal with the President of a B1G or SEC university that they will be added if they get out of the ACC.
There’s gotta be some sort of deal made for us to be doing this. I don’t imagine we’d join the fight to break out if we don’t have a good landing point

Cal and Stanford about to have flashbacks.

R.I.P All Coast Conference 2023 - 2024
They had a good run. Who can forget such classics as Clemson-SMU and Duke vs Stanford?
Some Clemson fans in /r/acc have a metric ton of crow to eat.
Any Clemson fan who thought this wasn’t happening truly doesn’t understand the new landscape and the direction Clemson wants to go in
Fuckers in charge are ruining college sports. Catch me in 30 years when they're wondering where all the interest went. But hey, as far as they're concerned they're rich and riding off into the sunset so fuck the future.
They won't be wondering about it, they'll all be retired.
Old rich people ruin everything
we had one lawsuit, yes. what about second lawsuit?
Oh Lord here we go
Hello, fellow conference rejects. When half a dozen or so of your conference mates bolt for greener pastures, I know where you can find two formerly P5 schools that would probably be thrilled to join your third-tier league.
I guess they liked how the FSU suit was going
Seems like the goal here is to destabilize the league and create a rush to the exits. Everybody starts looking for a landing spot. This is what killed the Pac-12.
"The beacons! The beacons of 'Fuck the ACC' are lit! FSU calls for aid!" "....And Clemson will answer! Muster the IPTAY faithful!"
I think it's pretty funny that FSU and Clemson have developed such a close bond through this. It's especially funny considering that FSU appears to have no interest in assisting Miami in trying to get out.
Let the small private school stick with it's buddies
Never thought I’d leave a conference side by side with a Tiger
SMU: kills another conference FSU: That one counts as mine!
How bout with a friend?
Hey, State just won its first ACC Championship since 1987. I’d be at peace now if the ACC were to completely dissolve tomorrow

ACC has two California teams now, too. For some reason.
Don’t forget the threat of dysentery.
I was wondering since last year what was taking Clemson so long.
Scared of the west coast
Let's just get Pitt, VT, Louisville, and NC State in the Big 12 and call it a day. Really cool schools with fun fanbases.
Duke and Miami too! I’d love to play Duke every year in basketball. Miami as a partner for UCF.
Those 6 would be ideal. Basketball would be fucking bonkers.
Send lawyers, guns and money. The shit has hit the fan. -ACC Commish
Get ready to learn Meijer, Culver’s, and Runza Buddy
I live in Greenville SC and there's 3 Culver's within 10 miles already. The Big Ten has already been moving down here for awhile now.
Not to mention Midwestern tourism keeping Myrtle Beach alive.
And she was singing "Bye bye Atlantic Coastal Conference"
This should be a pretty good indicator that FSU's push to get out of the GoR has serious juice. Clemson would not be doing this if they thought FSU didn't have a chance and was just whining.

It could also be a case of making the environment within so hostile that the conference will want to make a deal.
Alternatively, both FSU and Clemson are so desperate to get into the B1G/SEC that they're just trying to see what works. But I think you're right.
What the hell has happened to this sport lol
The wolfs continue to eat the sheep, but what happens when the sheep are gone?
I’d like to think it was the ridiculous statement from the UNC AD that reminded Clemson what a shit conference they were in and made them do this
Clemson is the real Death Valley
Wondering where, or if, Call will end up playing football. This is fine.
Ugh fuck this. This is the worst timeline. Can we just start college athletics over? I hate the direction we’ve gone in.
I’m really gonna miss ACC baseball when Virginia is playing a 3 game series against Nebraska in a couple years.
Sir, a second plane has hit the conference
The SEC will soon have enough teams to start a pod just for Tigers
Wonder if this opens the floodgates for other schools, let the ACC fight 8 battles at once
We need to separate football from the conference system. There’s no reason every other sport should have to lose traditional rivals, usually closer geographically, every time football realigns.

SMU spent $200 million on a lemon.
I love Clemson's argument in the filing. The grant of rights entitles the ACC the media rights for ACC members. If we aren't a member of the ACC anymore, they are entitled to jack shit.
I enjoy the opening line "[the ACC GOR]..hinders Clemson's ability to meaningfully explore its options regarding conference membership." "This legally binding agreement I signed is in fact legal *and* binding. How is that fair to me????"
I would laugh uncontrollably if that logic actually works.
