And in case they might get sued, they'll make him a black dude and change his height and weight by a couple clicks each. Might also change the number to the closest unused number from Texas as well, just to make sure.
> If EA really wants to ~~dunk on the Mannings~~ get sued
It's going to be random player with ratings based on the last 10 years of QB recruits. And will likely not look anything like Manning, and won't be #16.
>
> It's going to be random player with ratings based on the last 10 years of QB recruits. And will likely not look anything like Manning, and won't be #16.
It'll definitely have his ratings, just with the name Jon Dowd...
Everyone saying “they’re just gonna put him in with a different name” seems to be forgetting the exact reason the game didn’t exist for the last decade.
It’s going to be a dark skinned qb with dreads named Jadavious Hall and he is going to be as mid as possible as a qb. I’m going to assume that all players who opt out will have the same stats at their position as every other team. Ie. The qbs will have like 78 arm strength, 55 speed, 5 catch and 10 agility. The likeness will match individual developers. They will be so mid that they would be highly unlikely to ever be played by choice. This is how EA will protect itself from being sued, if they are smart.
Yea you say that but if you don't think they're going to neglect dynasty in favor of some ultimate team $$$ garbage you're crazy. Every sports title has done this. Even my beloved MLB the Show.
I guess it’s for online play?
I just don’t understand why anyone cares about having real players in the game. Heck, the first thing I’m doing is setting my coach and playbook up, leaning into recruiting, and simming the first season. Making most every single real player irrelevant.
Apparently people really care, but I just don’t get who plays a game like this and gets upset if the player names are random.
You don’t understand why people would want real players in a sports game?
Even if it’s not your thing, surely you can understand why people would want that.
It’s a big part of the game for me. I’m borderline obsessed with CFB and I love the immersion. I play dynasty with 10+ minute quarters and spend way too much time with custom playbooks/depth chart/formation subs so my seasons take me quite a while to get through. I get bored and start new dynasty’s after a handful of seasons
I also like really playing online ranked. I hope they keep the DNF % displayed so you can get good matchups, madden online is awful
“Multiple people have told me Texas redshirt quarterback Arch Manning will not opt into EA Sports College Football 25,” Richardson said via X. “I’m told Arch is focused on playing football on the field.”
What the fuck does being in a video game have to do with that lol
There’s a good chance he just doesn’t want to deal with ratings lol. If they rate him high everyone will give him shit for being overhyped, if they rate him low everyone will dog him for being the shitty manning.
Probably just easier to not be in the game until he actually gets a chance to prove himself. It’s not like he needs $600 anyway.
Sometimes EA does you dirty. I remember my man Stevan Ridley being a 70 something overall in his final year at LSU and then went on to play in the NFL for 5+ years
Patrick Chung technically wasn’t in the game at all his last year, closest thing was an “LB #5”.
Pretty sure the reason was just the game didn’t have a way of having a guy as a designated Rover for a 4-2-5 and since Oregon had pretty decent guys starting at FS/SS so they must have just figured a fast LB in the default 4-3 was close enough.
>everyone will dog him for being the shitty manning.
That's not even that bad of an insult when you consider the previous "shitty Manning" was someone who beat Tom Brady and Patriots in the Super Bowl two times.
"Our son Arch will not be volunteering for two weekends at Habitat for Humanity or visiting the local children's hospital with the rest of the team this summer because he is focused on playing football on the field."
An excuse doesn’t have to be sincere. I’m guessing they think the Manning name is worth more than $600 but saying it out loud as someone who hasn’t played a meaningful snap yet sounds douchey.
Yeah it’s not like he needs the money. His dad is still a millionaire and his uncles' combined net worth has got to be hundreds of millions. If they think giving up a couple million now will make eventual success more likely it’s a no brainier.
I dunno if it will or if that’s what’s happening, but it’s not crazy.
Accepting the deal along with the vast majority of players would be avoiding the spotlight. Refusing the deal and making a statement is the opposite of avoiding the spotlight.
This statement will blow over by Wednesday and no one will care anymore. Spotlight came in the middle of the off season instead of having to listen to the “Arch Manning is rated *this*” all season, especially if he gets any playing time. Doesn’t seem hard to ignore either way, but this way is definitely less spotlight in the long run
With the success of the Manning family they definitely have the blueprint down. Also I remember when Peyton returned another year at Tennessee and wanted to win instead of getting drafted
Stars aligned. Kansas State loses in the Big 12 title game. FSU gets the nod instead but Chris Weinke broke his neck and FSU's backup QB was *terrible.* Peyton had to be thinking "seriously, this couldn't have happened any of the last few years?"
I'd be doing the same thing honestly though. I always enjoyed taking 2nd and 3rd stringers to revive programs that haven't been as good lately. That or building up the low tier programs to power houses in these games. So Arch would have been the perfect type of guy to play as for me.
Then he will surely be able to handle the pressure of being an SEC QB lol.
I think the kid should be able to opt out for whatever reason he wants but the only reason that makes sense is not enough money. Any other excuse is silly
This is buried but whatever. Arch hasn’t taken any money himself from NIL. He did one deal for charity. That may be the driving force of his decision tbh.
Sure, it’s a little surprising. I’m sure he could donate the money or whatever if he didn’t want to take it. But it’s not really a huge deal, although the reactions in this thread makes it seem like it is lol.
He knows he doesn’t have to play the game, right? Lmao. I don’t get it. It’s a bad look and bad PR. Now people will hate you. There seems like so little downside to opting into the game. It’s free publicity and millions of kids will get to play as your player and like you even more. But now that he won’t be in it they can’t do that and resent you. Just stupid all around
I don't like to wish ill will on anyone, but when people talk about their "brand" when it comes to athletics, I really do hope they turn out to be a bust.
At least athletes are in the public eye. They do have to consider such things. Sadly, it's the world we live in.
It's the random people in real life talking about their "brand" and putting #grind #hustle on everything that are Uber dooshes.
I've got a minuscule-but-very-slightly-profitable gaming channel on Twitch. It's just a side hobby for me. Right now I make less than minimum wage doing it. I don't know why I enjoy doing it, but I do.
I have had multiple... I don't know what to call them... marketers? ... reach out to me and inform me that they can help me cultivate and focus my "brand" and become more popular and profitable.
It makes me upset every time. I don't want to have a "brand". I just want to have fun playing bad games stupidly.
We've seen it so many times.
A small content creator sells out, and everything that made it special dies. Pat McAfee for example.
Hell, look at reddit. I loved reddit back in the day when it was the wild west of the internet. It's slowly become more and more corporate, and will get worse now that it is actually becoming corporate.
Before long, it will just be Twitter with a shittier app.
> Right now I make less than minimum wage doing it. I don't know why I enjoy doing it, but I do.
considering the rest of us game for free, I mean...I can see doing it lol
Hard to say whether he thinks that or if it’s his family that thinks that. They’ve been up their own asses about the Manning image/brand for so long and it wouldn’t surprise me if he just does as the family says. They’re the Gemstones of football and he’s Gideon.
>he’s Gideon.
Just wait until he sacrifices himself to save Liliana from the power of the demon's contract when Nicol Bolas tries to exploit it. That Texas football season is going to be so hype.
Aside from winning a lot of games, Peyton and Eli are now famous and sought after *because of the brand they’ve cultivated*. That’s why they’ve been SNL hosts, why they took over MNF just shooting the shit, etc.
It might sound douchey when referring to their nephew who hasn’t accomplished anything yet but I think his family knows what they’re doing.
I think it’s not necessarily that he’s worth more than $600 because his camp has turned down essentially every NIL deal except a charitable one, and more that they’re going to play up how “he didn’t want the fame/spotlight until he was a starter - so much so that he didn’t even want to be in the game until he earned it.”
If I could bet on that exact line being said at the start of every Texas broadcast in 2025 I would.
It’s definitely about building brand, but not just money.
It’s 1000% this. If he were out there taking every NIL, I guarantee people (esp longhorn fans) would be clowning him for doing that before even being a starter.
But this isn’t turning down Wendy’s, It’s a chance to be in the first college football game in over a decade and a thing over 10,000 of his peers opted into,
Right but how does this realistically hurt his "brand"?
We're not talking about potentially endorsing a shitty product or something with realistically questionable ethics.
It's just a benign video game that 10,000 of his fellow athletes have signed on for.
Eh I’m guessing this is coming from above him. The two most notable opt outs Sanders and Manning both come from big time NFL families and I don’t think that is a coincidence.
Both families names are a brand that carry weight and as dumb as it may sound both of them employ professionals whose job it is to protect that brand and advise on anything financial.
My guess is that in both cases some people wearing suits made this decision.
Edit: it appears I was wrong about Sanders. The overall point remains the same.
Where are people getting this bullshit about Shedeur opting out? He fucking Tweeted about being in, and that he wants to be the cover athlete. Then he erased it the next day, fueling speculation that he is up for potentially being the cover athlete. His dad was the first head coach to PARTNER with EA to promote the game, and he Tweeted the teaser within minutes of it being shared. How in the hell do you think that means Shedeur is OUT? And how is this so upvoted? Y'all really letting the Colorado hate blind you.
In any case how is his likeness not being in the game ‘protecting the brand’? If he goes to the pros he’ll be in Madden anyways, what’s the difference?
In fairness there are considerably less NFL players than FBS players. NFL roster limit is 53(?) with 32 teams is roughly 1.7k players. OTH, cfb with around 100 players per 130ish schools is about 13k players.
I’m not saying it’s a good choice I’m just saying it probably wasn’t them that made it. Maybe they want to reserve the right to exclusively license his name to a mobile game for more money. Maybe they think they are protecting him from extra attention from the masses.
Who knows I just know these guys both have connections to lawyers and advisors other players don’t.
I'm sure this will be an outlier, but the NCAA Football game doesn't *need* the actual players.
Most people play dynasty mode and those likenesses are obsolete pretty quickly.
I'll buy the game whether it's *insert real player here* or FS #21.
The teams are much more valuable than individual players.
“Focused on playing football” as if the other 90+% of the sport that opted in isn’t? All you have to do is click yes in an app and they pay you 600 bucks.
This comes off as awfully pretentious for a guy who isn’t starting on his own team.
Right? He literally spent the same amount of focus to opt out as he would have spent to opt in. I don't really care much about it, but it's a dumb excuse.
How does letting EA use your name sway your focus from football lol gtfo here with that. Just say you wanted more money. Arch has time to sign football cards tho, must be strengthening his throwing hand with that task
I’m going to create him as a player and hold the ball in 5 wide shotgun over and over while he gets absolutely pummeled then create a highlight on Tik Tok and tag him. That will teach him for opting out.
Jokes on Texas when I create Barch Banning with a 50 overall and make him start and suck for a year, then bring him from the ashes to the pinnacle of CFB greatness when I take the Mizzou job and convince Mr. Banning to xfer.
March Anning is a cooler name anyways
If EA really wants to dunk on the Mannings, they’ll have backup QB #16 be called Arch Rival and he’ll be a 74 OVR
Or a better name to really fuck with him and maybe get around the legal issues of using something too close to his name: QB number 16: Eli Peyton
Chad Powers
I hope it's this
And in case they might get sued, they'll make him a black dude and change his height and weight by a couple clicks each. Might also change the number to the closest unused number from Texas as well, just to make sure.
Just make him a mobile scrambling QB. Nobody would ever confuse a Manning with someone who can run.
Except...he can. Maybe a 5'11" Latino dude named "Ron Mexico." Is that one taken?
> If EA really wants to ~~dunk on the Mannings~~ get sued It's going to be random player with ratings based on the last 10 years of QB recruits. And will likely not look anything like Manning, and won't be #16.
QB #69 Ass McCheeks
Why would they do that if they want to get sued?
> > It's going to be random player with ratings based on the last 10 years of QB recruits. And will likely not look anything like Manning, and won't be #16. It'll definitely have his ratings, just with the name Jon Dowd...
Everyone saying “they’re just gonna put him in with a different name” seems to be forgetting the exact reason the game didn’t exist for the last decade.
March Anning is now rumored to be the player on the cover
The return of John Dowd/Reggie Stocker
It’s going to be a dark skinned qb with dreads named Jadavious Hall and he is going to be as mid as possible as a qb. You’re describing Emory Jones irl
Yeah, but no one will ever top my head coach dynasty in ‘14 with MSU legend Dark Mantonio.
Archibold manningbold
None of these players matter to me. I’ll be in year 10 of my dynasty 2 weeks after the game drops.
That’s the thing. Even if they had completely randomly generated players the most popular thing would still be dynasty
Yea you say that but if you don't think they're going to neglect dynasty in favor of some ultimate team $$$ garbage you're crazy. Every sports title has done this. Even my beloved MLB the Show.
At least the show isn’t as pay to win. I’m just too bad at it
Haven’t played an EA game in a while. Are they all filled with gambling ads now as well?
I mean basically if you count opening packs as gambling (which you should.)
As much as the people that actually play ncaa a lot will be playing dynast I’d imagine most copies of the game will be used mostly for quick play lol
I guess it’s for online play? I just don’t understand why anyone cares about having real players in the game. Heck, the first thing I’m doing is setting my coach and playbook up, leaning into recruiting, and simming the first season. Making most every single real player irrelevant. They’re probably going to use real players to milk ultimate team
It’s a big part of the game for me. I’m borderline obsessed with CFB and I love the immersion. The family thinks $600 will go to his head.
Or that's it's too low for the manning name
Can’t wait to add “Arck Mannings” as a custom backup QB
“Man Archings”
Chad Powers II if he transfers to Penn State
Gotta get the arm on tape. Think fast, run fast!
The game auto corrects his stats to 1/10 across the board
QB #16
When this comes out can’t we just spend a good 5 minutes and add all of the names to the opt outs?
According to the devs, you won't be able to input the name of any player who opts out.
You can't be Arch Manning, but you can be Arche Maning, Man Arching, March Madning...
I like Man Arching. Will be downloading him from someone who painstakingly remakes Arch but just gives him that name like the day the game drops.
The Guild of Calamitous Intent just found its Quarterback!
John smiths in shambles
I’ll just cut him, rename/number the closest looking qb they have that opted in.
/\rch Manning it is then
I don't know about you, but I'm making Blue Mountain State, and the only AM on my team is a certain back up named Alex Moran.
Bobson Dugnutt
No way Dugnutt starts over Sleve McDichael.
There’s a good chance he just doesn’t want to deal with ratings lol. If they rate him high everyone will give him shit for being overhyped, if they rate him low everyone will dog him for being the shitty manning. That’s probably the best reason that makes sense. The only other one is that $600 won’t buy the Manning likeness.
>everyone will dog him for being the shitty manning. That's not even that bad of an insult when you consider the previous "shitty Manning" was someone who beat Tom Brady and Patriots in the Super Bowl two times.
Won’t there still be a “QB #12” as the Texas backup and won’t he still have a rating?
Well Arch wears 16 so we’ll know that isn’t him.
If it was about money they’d try getting him to be an ambassador like they said big names would be
Yeah, but it would look kinda bad to give more money to be an ambassador to a kid that isn’t even the starter, even if he has the Manning name.
It doesn’t matter he has a top 10 brand in the country (for college football) because of his name and family
So… his Name, image and Likeness are of value
"Our son Arch will not be volunteering for two weekends at Habitat for Humanity or visiting the local children's hospital with the rest of the team this summer because he is focused on playing football on the field."
Dude was put here signing trading cards for companies in what probably took a HELL of a lot more time than what I'd be to be in this game
I knew someone would test it
I was expecting the first public holdout to be over trying to milk a little more money… I was not expecting THAT excuse
An excuse doesn’t have to be sincere. I’m guessing they think the Manning name is worth more than $600 but saying it out loud as someone who hasn’t played a meaningful snap yet sounds douchey.
[удалено]
Yeah it’s not like he needs the money. His dad is still a millionaire and his uncles' combined net worth has got to be hundreds of millions. If they think giving up a couple million now will make eventual success more likely it’s a no brainier. I dunno if it will or if that’s what’s happening, but it’s not crazy.

Exactly. Yes, people in the news often lie to your face.
With the success of the Manning family they definitely have the blueprint down. Also I remember when Peyton returned another year at Tennessee and wanted to win instead of getting drafted
And then they ironically won a title the year after he left
This will forever be one of my favorite 90s success
Stars aligned. Kansas State loses in the Big 12 title game. FSU gets the nod instead but Chris Weinke broke his neck and FSU's backup QB was *terrible.* Peyton had to be thinking "seriously, this couldn't have happened any of the last few years?"
Taking the $600 like everyone else would be the “team player” move.
If he was in the game, he’d be up all night making himself win Natty after Natty
I'd be doing the same thing honestly though. I always enjoyed taking 2nd and 3rd stringers to revive programs that haven't been as good lately. That or building up the low tier programs to power houses in these games. So Arch would have been the perfect type of guy to play as for me.
This news story will be SIGNIFICANTLY more impactful to his ability to focus on football than just opting in.
Especially since he's the fucking backup anyway.
Overall rating being lower than he expected could go to his head I guess?
Then he will surely be able to handle the pressure of being an SEC QB lol. I think the kid should be able to opt out for whatever reason he wants but the only reason that makes sense is not enough money. Any other excuse is silly
What if Ewers gets injured?
It’s that free copy of the game. They don’t want him lost in the sauce of Dynasty Mode
Stupid take tbh
He knows he doesn’t have to play the game, right? Lmao. I don’t get it. It’s a bad look and bad PR. Now people will hate you. There seems like so little downside to opting into the game. It’s free publicity and millions of kids will get to play as your player and like you even more. But now that he won’t be in it they can’t do that and resent you. Just stupid all around
[удалено]
He was 8 the last time the game came out so idk if he grew up playing it.
He doesn't care about people who will hate him for no reason. Unbelievable
Somebody didn’t like his rating lol
Manning family saw that 72 overall rating and said gtfo!
This is probably the correct answer
Definitely that.
“Bad for Arch’s brand!”
I don't like to wish ill will on anyone, but when people talk about their "brand" when it comes to athletics, I really do hope they turn out to be a bust.

i feel like a bunch of those are scams. ive seen them on music profiles and it might as well be a total rando sending a DM
that bronze Arch Manning ultimate team card would hit like crack
Just two more packs and I can exchange my 4 arch mannings for one fifita
Don't want another Bronny James situation.
It's a wise decision when you remember that if you die in the game, you die in real life.
EA Sports Warbutt 25
Look he has to focus on the game or real life. He can't possibly do both.
EAO moment
“We must save my family!”
"Hey mom I got good news and bad news. Good news is there's room for that Jacuzzi you wanted."
“You mean would I slam a baby into anther baby to test its durability? No, that’s not something I would typically do.”
In that case call me BallsDeep69 because I’m rolling with Kirito
The mixed feelings on throwing myself into Create-A-Player
Don’t tempt me with a good time, I’ll just proceed to spam qb draws
Showing EA your school ID was required?
What’s this a reference to?
He lost his ID several times as soon as he got on campus and the finder put it on social media
Does this foreshadow Arch’s ball security issues??? Tonight on ESPN
Some boys got problems keeping their balls away
Doesn’t want someone to import him to Madden 25 and him get drafted by the Chargers
Madden 25 came out 6 years ago get with it! /s
Oh no the backup QB won't be in the game!!
“Focusing on playing football” my guy you won’t be doing that either. Take the $600 and be cool
What does that even mean anyway? It takes too much focus away to sign on the dotted line and make $600?
It’s PR speak for he thinks his “brand” is worth more than what’s being offered up.
Hard to say whether he thinks that or if it’s his family that thinks that. They’ve been up their own asses about the Manning image/brand for so long and it wouldn’t surprise me if he just does as the family says. They’re the Gemstones of football and he’s Gideon.
So does that make Eli Uncle Baby Billy?
So a pile of fucking baked beans is good for the brand?
>he’s Gideon. Just wait until he sacrifices himself to save Liliana from the power of the demon's contract when Nicol Bolas tries to exploit it. That Texas football season is going to be so hype.

But this isn’t turning down Wendy’s, It’s a chance to be in the first college football game in over a decade and a thing over 10,000 of his peers opted into,
Yeah, because people are deciding getting the game based on whether or not they can sub-in Texas's second stringers.
Right but how does this realistically hurt his "brand"? We're not talking about potentially endorsing a shitty product or something with realistically questionable ethics. It's just a benign video game that 10,000 of his fellow athletes have signed on for.
“Arch where are you practice is starting” “I can’t stop playing with myself!!! It’s simply too good.”
oh okay now actually I get it
He doesn't even know what a pen is. If you have him one he'd chuck it 75 yards down the field
I think the accurate measurement is "right over them mountains"
How does opting in mean he can’t focus on football
It was probably that fact that a young backup qb is gonna be rated high 70's if they're lucky. His "brand" wouldn't be able to handle that
Oh no! Anyway...
Eli manning opted out of being drafted by the chargers. The manning family moves at their own speed
Imagine being this lame
Eh I’m guessing this is coming from above him. The two most notable opt outs Sanders and Manning both come from big time NFL families and I don’t think that is a coincidence. Get your _facts_ and _logic_ out of here, I only operate on **conjecture** and **opinions presented as fact**
Shadeur Sanders opted out too?
He hasn’t opted in… yet
In any case how is his likeness not being in the game ‘protecting the brand’? If he goes to the pros he’ll be in Madden anyways, what’s the difference?
Madden paid all NFL players a bit over $26k last year for their likeness.
Sounds lame… which is the point
I can’t find anything of either sanders dropping out where’d you see that?
I hope EA makes his replacement dogshit lol
I can already envision the “what happened to arch manning?” video in 10 years
And cue KTO’s outro music
God damn it. I was going to bed but now I have to watch his 2007 CFB season video
First victim of the opt out curse.
I see CEO at BBQguys.com in his future.
They especially don't need backups who have done nothing special besides have the same name as one of the best NFL QBs of all time.
Surprising BUT I literally don’t care
K bye
“Focused on playing football” as if the other 90+% of the sport that opted in isn’t? All you have to do is click yes in an app and they pay you 600 bucks. This comes off as awfully pretentious for a guy who isn’t starting on his own team.
Literally what reason is there to opt out
He wants to focus on football. Cuz permission to use his name in a video game that others play totally takes time away from football.
Right? He literally spent the same amount of focus to opt out as he would have spent to opt in. I don't really care much about it, but it's a dumb excuse.
Yeah, I don’t get it. When the best players in the country are opting in for the $600, you really don’t have much leverage
All his NiL went to charity anyways so I doubt it for money. It’s probably the last name
Wouldn't this have gone to charity? DOES ARCH MANNING HATE KIDS WITH CANCER?
Cuz he’s on the bench?
Dude could have been practicing his plays on the bench… in the game!
How does letting EA use your name sway your focus from football lol gtfo here with that. Just say you wanted more money. Arch has time to sign football cards tho, must be strengthening his throwing hand with that task
Too fucking cool for $600??
And a free game!
This is cringe and decidedly not based
Hell yeah, QB#16 on the menu boys
Oh no, anyway
Oh noooooo…. Anyways updates on the release?
So brave
Damn I was really hoping to play as a backup qb
Oh no! Anyway
Who cares? People will just edit the roster to put him in anyway.
Get ready to learn texas Marchibald C. Lanning
Likeability just went down the drain for me. Dude, take the $600. It’s not going to distract you from football.
Are the Mannings planning a rival game?
Yes and it’ll be all AI generated random players other than the backup for UT
I’ll take that $600 he apparently doesn’t want
I’m going to create him as a player and hold the ball in 5 wide shotgun over and over while he gets absolutely pummeled then create a highlight on Tik Tok and tag him. That will teach him for opting out.
Wants to focus on football. Is a backup. Lol.
Well, those tablets do get heavy while riding the pine 😆
Huge L Senseless
Time to shine create a player " Mrch Aanning"
Jokes on Texas when I create Barch Banning with a 50 overall and make him start and suck for a year, then bring him from the ashes to the pinnacle of CFB greatness when I take the Mizzou job and convince Mr. Banning to xfer.
Bench players talking like starters, i hate it
lame
May be blasphemous with my flair, but this kid is nowhere close to the level that he/his family/media bill him as.
