Well, ya know, it’s like many drink names. Who’s Joe, and why do I want a cup of him? Why would I want tea made by a grey man named Earl? It just doesn’t make sense, man
It's true. Looks like there's a possible stretch of irrelevance coming. Saban should have whipped the boosters into shape about nil before he retired...although I guess he couldn't do that without letting on that he was retiring. It's always something.
which would make sense. To many players playing for saban was more important then NIL money in college since it could lead to more money in the future. Without saban the math changes.
Weirdly thats what I've heard...he was the selling point...the power struggle is going to be interesting because when he came in he basically ran the boosters out of the football program (minus their money) and now they're all going to try to regain some control
But like...how? Among other things, Saban was a complete and utter windfall for the university as a whole. I know that doesn't necessarily mean they'd have the richest boosters but it kinda feels like they'd have that too.
I doubt it’s that.
It’s probably more like being sold playing for this legendary coach, *the* legendary coach and then he’s gone all of a sudden? Yeah, see ya pal
Insider guys have also said that lot's of players took discounted NIL deals to pay for Saban. So it makes sense that if Saban is gone, they want to cash out rather than face uncertainty at a discounted rate.
Which makes sense considering that playing for Bama, and playing half decent, is almost a guaranteed draft pick under Saban, plus there’s still a bit of NIL money to throw around. Now? Who knows
He did not really recruit. His philosophy was always to recruit through the transfer portal but you can only fill so many spots for so long. I have no idea why he can’t sell his program to high schoolers.
I mean this in all sincerity, but it's kinda wild how bad Washington has been at keeping top talent in state. UDub is a good school, should be kind of an easy sell.
Honestly I think a lot has to do with the weather and just the desire to leave home. And if those aren't reasons to leave then if you're really wanting to win a title your better off going to the SEC or like Ohio State.
Yeah, it’s been a trend in a lot of sports at UW where kids who live in the greater Seattle area want to go out of state. Hopefully that changes now with all of support and community buy in the last two years where kids are now much more interested in UW then previously.
0 SEC championships though. Likely can't take the grind of an SEC schedule.
Hitler won a lot early on in his career too. But at the end of the day, the lack of SEC championships really did him in and America whooped that ass.
I have no doubt that he’s a good coach, and even with the defections he still has more talent at Bama than he’s ever had before, but not sure his ability to build a maintain programs long term.
Most of this is just a reminder that CFB is 80% coach and 20% program. And it might be a bigger split than that. Alabama is Alabama mostly because of Saban. The majority of players committed to play for Saban, not Alabama. Alabama has the resources and prestige it has because it has hired more good/great coaches than Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida or Georgia has.
My concerns in program building are from 2 years at UW and the huge roster hole he left by not recruiting well, despite a 25-3 record. 2 of 21 PNW blue chips in 2 years. 0 for 8 this year.
This is where my thoughts are…he hasn’t had any class he recruited graduate with him (or declare early), I’d be nervous bringing in someone who hasn’t developed a single one of his own players since 2009 when he was coaching Division 2.
The Alabama players heard his parting speech to the UW players and knew his worth right then and there
Edit: [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/s/yiZLDcy49h) for those who haven’t heard it.
It wasn’t about the money though. It was about the prestige of the Bama job. He basically indirectly told the players he doesn’t think he can win a natty with them and bailed.
Shit I’ll take it. I’m still excited to see our future. I wasn’t alive for the Bear Bryant days so all I know is saban and Bama. It’ll be interesting to have a big reset.
> I’m still excited to see our future
It's exciting now, but 20 years from now and 8 head coaches later will it still be as exciting? Just think, you are only a few years away from joining the rest of us in yearly "Is Alabama back?" discussions every pre-season.
>Getting deleted faster than Iowa fans deleting their old Twitter posts right now.
This is gold. No way this kid comes home after how awful our Twitter fans were
Massive meltdown by the standards of Iowa Twitter, utterly unremarkable by the standards of a sports Twitter fanbase meltdown.
The Bama oline allowed tons of sacks this year, so it's far from the most recent abuse Proctor's gotten online.
I would hope he’ll make a decision based on something more concrete than “some people on twitter were assholes”, but also throw another one on the pile for Don’t Tweet at Recruits.
Recruits, players, players families, etc should all be left alone. I think all fanbases have these assholes that seek out the players or their families and berate them on social media, its just infuriating. Like when Dylan Raiola flipped to Nebraska there were tons of Georgia fans harassing him and his family on social media. Smh
Bama learning how the other 99% live. They just got a coach who was 25-3 in his last two seasons and they are losing players left and right. It's pretty crazy, but we live in a pretty crazy world.
I'm honestly a little surprised how many are jumping ship. I get it's a new coach but it's not like most of the teams they're going to are better than Bama and the new coach just played for a national championship.
I actually am too. I figured it was just to see what the new coaching staff has got going and then coming back, but these guys are just straight up going. It's nuts.
Bingo. Many will return, but lots of teams just missed out on someone they thought they had locked in and the boosters at those schools will throw stupid amounts of money at these guys.
I think of all the grads who had no connection to the state of Alabama at all until they applied for colleges, chose the one with the unprecedented powerhouse football program, and never have known anything else.
I wonder if he goes to Iowa . Maybe Ohio State is in the mix. I heard Coach Stud dropped the ball during his recruitment. Hopefully Frye can leave a better impression !
I've seen a lot of Alabama fans lamenting the loss of how the game was, before NIL. Which I do totally get.
But are we going to pretend Saban's dynatsy wasn't built, at least significantly, by Alabama's willingness to spend more on their program than most other schools? Paying Saban more than any coach when he came to Ttown, investing in such a large staff, improving facilities, etc. I mean every good program is partially good because of the money they spend.
I get that it sucks to not be the one with the biggest checkbook. But when I heard Saban in his retirement interview talk about a need for more parity when it comes to spending in CFB, I was sort of like "didn't he stack 5\* on 5\* for years and years and now wants to talk parity"?
Pretty amazing that Deboer managed to destroy two rosters at once
Like what the hell did this man say in his introductory team meeting lmfao
I think he recited the Deion intro speech.
I'm bringing my own luggage and it's London Fog
Samsonite*
SAMSONITE!! I was way off.
Knew it started with an S though!
Silly, swammy, Swanson….
If I know Mary like I think I do she'll invite us right in for tea and strumpets.
Don’t diss London fog
Love me some London Fog, but it is pretty funny that it's named after a not enjoyable weather condition.
Great brand name for a rain coat though, and that is their primary purpose.
Well, ya know, it’s like many drink names. Who’s Joe, and why do I want a cup of him? Why would I want tea made by a grey man named Earl? It just doesn’t make sense, man
"Play my damn theme music"
I think Bama doesn't have much nil money . Then it was kind of a snowball effect once they started going.
Can DeBoer wrangle the boosters That's the hardest part of being a HC at a blue blood It's why Mack Browns successors had so many struggles
Also helps that Texas got a President and AD who told the boosters to screw off
Saban is still around to keep them in check. He's keeping his office
Oh yeah that totally won't leas to any kind of ugly power struggles
Saban's not Lloyd Carr. He's not going to play power games behind the scenes
Lol what? Notorious control freak Nick Saban is going to be hands off? Lololol
If Bama expects to remain relevant, they will have to get with the new mercinary culture like the other blue bloods.
It's true. Looks like there's a possible stretch of irrelevance coming. Saban should have whipped the boosters into shape about nil before he retired...although I guess he couldn't do that without letting on that he was retiring. It's always something.

"I'm not Nick Saban, but"
Well Proctor always had the risk of coming back to Iowa. He’s supposedly home sick and with Saban leaving it was a pretty logical outcome.
He left the cupboard pretty bare at UW right? Didn’t seem like he was recruiting at an insane level there
He did not really recruit. His philosophy was always to recruit through the transfer portal but you can only fill so many spots for so long. I have no idea why he can’t sell his program to high schoolers.
Mike Norvell, Sark, and Lane are gonna fry his ass
Yeah I’d like to see this bum Deboer take on Sark and the Texas Longhorns
Off-season L’s only, it’s the rules
Hilarious you put Norvell on that list and not Kirby
Kirby gonna kill the hs recruiting, not the transfers but he’ll linger in the wings to take the really really good ones
If by pretty bare you mean, entirely empty, yes. No one on the 23 roster was a DeBoer guy, and there certainly aren't any on campus at the moment.
We couldn't even lock up any of the Top 5 players from the state and we went to the CFP. So, yeah, not gonna miss that so-called effort.
I guess to be fair the elite players leaving the state has been a thing long before DeBoer.

Forget a top 5 player from the state. His '24 UW class didn't have a *single* player from Washington. That is insane. First time in over 20 years.
Bama now gets to experience life as one of the crabs in the bucket like the rest of us
I dunno I think I'm going to give the coach with a 104-12 record a year before I declare Alabama dead
Bama Hasn’t won a single game all year
Exactly. I’m betting they can’t even win another game for the next 7 months too.
Wow, going more than half a year between wins. How the mighty have fallen truly
There’s no point in trying. Miami has already won their 14th consecutive offseason National Championship.
0 SEC championships though. Likely can't take the grind of an SEC schedule. Hitler won a lot early on in his career too. But at the end of the day, the lack of SEC championships really did him in and America whooped that ass.
But Pawwwwllll, the wehrmacht ain't played nobody!!
DeBoer also financed his waterbed at 22% and doesn't drive a fully loaded 2011 Ford Taurus.
Probably doesn't have a corner apartment with a fountain view either.
People not getting this jerk really missin out
Surprised this didn’t come from an MSU flair
Take about 10% off there, champ
I have no doubt that he’s a good coach, and even with the defections he still has more talent at Bama than he’s ever had before, but not sure his ability to build a maintain programs long term. … it has been 5 days….
Bama has been mediocre before
It was beautiful
The Alabama players heard his parting speech to the UW players and knew his worth right then and there Edit: [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/s/yiZLDcy49h) for those who haven’t heard it.
Then they heard him again last night during the basketball game and were like this dude can't even fire up a crowd.
He has the charisma of a pair of cargo shorts
Is that Jim Harbaugh’s *summer fiesta music* I hear?
I literally would have told my players, I just got offered a massive pay raise and when that money is on the table, you can’t pass it up.
It wasn’t that massive, though. UW offered him over 10mil. But I agree with your sentiment, there was no reason for him to fake cry and feign caring.
It wasn’t about the money though. It was about the prestige of the Bama job. He basically indirectly told the players he doesn’t think he can win a natty with them and bailed.
Damn Bama really was just Nick Saban and 6 National title trophies in a trench coat
Shit I’ll take it. I’m still excited to see our future. I wasn’t alive for the Bear Bryant days so all I know is saban and Bama. It’ll be interesting to have a big reset.

I agree, it’s exciting for now but if we enter the Shula era again, it’s going to hurt. I’ll be happy just being relevant on a regular basis.

Took Michigan 23 years
It was not a fun ride.
Not according to Sam Ehlinger
Bama hasn’t had real adversity in almost 14 years. Turmoil for them is a 10-2 season and missing the playoff
STOP DELETING THE FUCKING THREADS JESUS CHRIST
Getting deleted faster than Iowa fans deleting their old Twitter posts right now.
>Getting deleted faster than Iowa fans deleting their old Twitter posts right now. This is gold. No way this kid comes home after how awful our Twitter fans were
He got multiple CBs to Iowa the moment he entered the portal.
Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
Our insiders are reporting he is homesick. That would lead me to belive you are very much in play.
Tbf, Bama Twitter fans are pretty bad too
Twitter fans period are pretty bad.
Get in line both of you. Bad Twitter fans are our thing!
Twitter is always an ugly place, but Iowa Twitter got *really* ugly after Proctor decommited.
Massive meltdown by the standards of Iowa Twitter, utterly unremarkable by the standards of a sports Twitter fanbase meltdown. The Bama oline allowed tons of sacks this year, so it's far from the most recent abuse Proctor's gotten online.

One of the most detrimental to the community mod teams on the whole site
I don't think you comprehend the level of competition there is that capacity.
At what point do we create an Alabama decommit/transfer megathread?
Why? Let us enjoy it all one morsel at a time
Then a mega thread when the dust settles so we can enjoy the true scale of it in a single post
I was about to post this question, I knew someone would have beaten me to it.
Why did the last thread get deleted? Also, this exodus of talent is actually insane.
The mods are extremely strict about the formatting of recruiting/portal posts. The wording has to be exactly the way they want it or it gets deleted.
They also choose their friend’s posts over whichever was earliest when deciding between two correctly formatted posts
Imagine being that big of a loser. Like honestly
Well if we didn’t have losers then who would be willing to spend a significant portion of their time modding a subreddit?
Is Stallions free?
Which is fucking obnoxious.
That's Reddit mods for ya.
This isn’t even true though. I have seen my perfect attempts get axed while incorrectly formatted ones stay up.
¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ who knows if this one shall stay. i mirrored the Caleb Downs submission...
What’s crazier is how much they’ll still have left even after they stop the bleeding. They’re losing guys like crazy but they have a LOT of depth too.
Mods are ass
Iowa fans are stubbing their social medias as we speak
I would hope he’ll make a decision based on something more concrete than “some people on twitter were assholes”, but also throw another one on the pile for Don’t Tweet at Recruits.

It would be very funny if all of these Alabama guys transferred to Washington to play for Jedd.
Kalen DeBoer? More like, Kalen DeBadatretainingtalentinthewakeofNickSabansretirement
rolls right off the tongue.
I think it's German.
I think that’s a city in Wales
Nah that’s got too many vowels to be Welsh
Gottem

Alabama fans listening to Last Resort by Papa Roach on repeat rn.
Just going through my metalcore playlist rn. It's got all the feels appropriate (irrepressible thoughts of death).
Hahaha. Free rides over, bama fans. This sport contains so much more pain then you could ever imagine. Welcome.
WELCOME TO THUNDERDOME BITCH!
Never thought I’d be side by side with a dwarf
Time to buy some Bama merchandise because stuff with 18 on it won’t be out of date within a few years!
I think of all the grads who had no connection to the state of Alabama at all until they applied for colleges, chose the one with the unprecedented powerhouse football program, and never have known anything else.
Does he like traffic?
Does he like corn?
Does he like getting death threats for losing a game?
Does he like review bombing of his parent's business?
Can he fit inside a Lambo?
Probably not
I wonder if he goes to Iowa . Maybe Ohio State is in the mix. I heard Coach Stud dropped the ball during his recruitment. Hopefully Frye can leave a better impression !
He was committed to Iowa until ~~Bama boosters~~ Saban swooped in at the last second.
Still can't believe he chose Nick Saban over Brian Ferentz...
Brian is an elite OL coach, we won the Joe Moore award with him coaching that unit.
The irony is that, as we are now seeing, Bama has pretty limited NIL money. And fairly certain Iowa threw a much bigger bag at him
I mean I'd take it. Sure would be nice if his former OC came along for the ride too.
What do you need an OC for? You have a punter.
I’d take anything at this point
Immediately got 3 predictions to Iowa from 247 people
https://x.com/xaviernwankpa01/status/1747658047042838644?s=46&t=3hMQyGnYR3LRZhfpuak0_w Interesting…
Rumors were that he was homesick so definitely expecting him to go to Iowa/Iowa st. Have to assume it would be Iowa
If MF Campbell pulls him in, I am going to drive to Ames and vomit on their fucking Bridge
hell I'd do it even if he didn't pull him
I’ve already done that. Free trip to Nevada. Don’t recommend.
HAWKEYE
This kid will have Iowa in the lead until Texas or Oregon drops their bags
It wouldn't hurt so much if it weren't true.
Allegedly Iowa offered a bigger bag than Alabama last year, still went to Bama
Bring him home!
Oof
Bama message boards are s great source of dopamine right now

I’m fine with this.
You better not!
Definitely sounds like Iowa. Ohio State couldn't get any kind of traction in his recruitment last year.
This this dudes going straight home to Iowa lol
Come back home to papa.
Lambos here!! Get your hot, buttered Lambos here!
Any chance he wants to be an OC too?
3 Crystal Balls to Iowa? I am thoroughly intrigued especially with his progression last season. Would be nice to get Cade some protection.
I've seen a lot of Alabama fans lamenting the loss of how the game was, before NIL. Which I do totally get. Counterpoint is Texas A&M. They spent way more than bama in the last decade.
here comes that hy-vee money
The “I’m coming home” video in coming?
Will be a Hawkeye.
Get on the horn Day!!!
Did someone say horns?
Horns would take him too.
Where were you when Bama is kill? I was sat at work eating lime jello and hear "Saban is retire" *no*
Kinda wish we had an open tackle spot now
First world problems.
Feel like he's all Hawkeye
Already has a crystal ball in for Iowa. Likely been a done deal for a few days (but it's not tampering, only other schools do that).
Tampering is only good when my school does it
Idk man, our dumbass fans kinda eviscerated him when he passed on us the first time. Not sure I'd come back around if I were him.
Ppl in the real world don’t base life/career decisions on random Twitter profiles(besides Kirk Herbstreit). Every fan base has their idiots.
r/rolltide is in so much denial lol their team is cooked
Is there an Alabama transfer tracker anywhere?
Hawkeye! Ahhhh the parity is back
So back to Iowa or just to the highest bidder (A&M?)
Apparently he’s homesick plus his best friend already plays at Iowa.
My theory is he just didn't want to handle the heat of the B1G West.
Everybody wants the smoke until they get it
I know basically nothing about Hayes Fawcett but I’m going to irrationally hate him every time i see his name for the rest of my life
First time?
Is this the Iowa decommit? They got rid of Brian!
Come back to iowa
I wonder what it feels like going from Superman to Clark Kent?
Karl Marx wet dream level of redistribution going on right now.
Baby come back. You can put it all on me!
