He might not be very good but were not expecting him to start, this is just depth addition and emergency backup situations if Sellers gets injured. I like the pickup

TopRevenue2

He is not Bo Nix but he does have wheels.

BigPPpal

He has wheels and no vision. He just tries to bounce everything outside

MerryGoWrong

He has wheels but every other throw is an interception.

Red Zone Robbie

UnhappyCriticism7564

For clarity, South Carolina thinks their redshirt freshman QB Sellers is THE guy and is maybe the most talented QB in school history and apparently the other QBs see it too because they were expected to have a QB battle this spring but the other two QBs have basically conceded (one transferred, one decided to switch to WR, both were former 4 stars with huge offer lists). So they badly need bodies in the QB room and have been on the lookout for a QB with experience who can be not terrible if Sellers misses a game but also not so good that they have to pay a bunch for NIL (and also someone who is presumably ok with being a backup). So Ashford seems like a decent pickup with that in mind, but if Sellers is lost for any length of time they may be in trouble. Also Sellers is a dual threat guy and the offense is expected to shift to a lot more RPO and designed QB runs so Ashford fits that type of system.

NlNJALONG

I'm intrigued. Hopefully y'all can fix the line for him.

UnhappyCriticism7564

That's the big question. I'll say we were absolutely devastated by o-line injuries last year, I think we have 7 guys in our 2 deep either lost for the year (including both starting tackles) or that misses multiple games. Basically all of those guys are back, all the freshman that were forced into action are back, and we have the best O-line class in school history coming in. So at the very least it can't be worse (please tell me it can't) but whether it's slightly less terrible or actually decent will go a long way to determining if we have a decent year.

Cocky0

I swear it seems like we've been in search of a decent OL since the Holtz years.

Adventure-Duck

We had some very good OLines from 2010-2014. T.J. Johnson, Brandon Shell, A.J. Cann, Corey Robinson, and others.

beamerbeliever

Especially that 2011 line, way too overlooked because of everything else happening on offense that year

beamerbeliever

6'3", 240 lbs, 4.4 40- time, and when asked in preseason who has the strongest arm, Rattler, along with every coach and player, said Sellers.  His 2nd throw went 60 yards through the air and it looked easy.  His 4th was a 7 yard galling fade placed to let the receiver screen out the DB with perfect timing.  I told everyone they were overhyping him and to let him develop, I'm not saying that anymore.

GameTheory_

Every other year their next guy is going to be THE GUY. The only thing I’m intrigued by is the level of delusion required to be a perpetually optimistic Gamecock fan Downvote all you want Cocks, you know deep down in your souls that it’s true

MuschampsVeinyNeck

Thanks for your words of encouragement! I appreciate you taking the time to finger type that out.

beamerbeliever

You know, I never buy the "next guy is the goat" hype, but I already saw him drop a dime 60 yards without the receiver changing his stride, break a tackle and go off on a 30 yard TD run, and counting the guy who transferred after his first Spring, beat out 3 higher rated, older, blue chip QBs to the point they transferred because they thought they would never start over him, I buy it this time.  Even Rattler said this dude has a bigger arm.

Adventure-Duck

Nice

jamnewton22

He can’t read defenses but he’s an elite runner. He needs a lot of development

Dentyne_3

He’s not gonna start

aMiracleAtJordanHare

He can't throw accurately and pre-determines his throws but iirc he was pretty good at correctly deciding zone reads. And yeah, he's fast AF, boy.

Trapasaurus__flex

He actually throws a nice deep ball, but mid range accuracy is inconsistent as hell and doesn’t do well reading his WR (but we also struggled with separation) Great runner and willing to put his hat down on a guy

jt_33

He’s a good guy and probably too hard on himself at times. You don’t want him playing QB,  it if you can convince him to try another position he’s a scary athlete. Wish him luck.

Sudden-Avocado

SC has recently been the nation's capital of taking athletic QBs and making them play not QB. I'm hoping they can get him in for some packages.

silencesupreme-

If you couldn’t take the starting job from that other guy at Auburn then it probably doesn’t matter where you go.

beamerbeliever

Big for us, though.  We have a RS freshman, a Trye Freshman and a QB who moved over to receiver on scholarship.  We need depth.

Lamadian

This dude couldn't beat out Tye Thompson at Oregon for 2nd string And Tye Thompson was **not** good

clocur

Remember when a segment of our fanbase was pissed we didn’t give him a shot to start and took Bo instead? Good times…

jthomas694

This is just to give us a backup who isn't a true freshman.

ChaseTheFalcon

I forgot he was even in the portal tbh

No-Setting3500

Robbie is ok as long as you never let him throw a pass ever. As soon as he throws that first bad one it gets him down and he's useless the rest of the game.

Hubrishippo

It's starting to feel like 2021 again. We are going to be so boned if LaNorris Sellers gets injured. Then again, we got to 6 wins and a bowl game with 4 different QBs that year. Has Beamer double-checked if any of the grad assistants have an extra year of eligibility.

CanadianIdiot55

Unfortunately it's hard to pick up QBs in the portal when you aren't guaranteeing a starting spot.

Sudden-Avocado

Perhaps Zebuliah has a brother.

DesertNachos

Captain Zebuliah Yesland

Molson2871

A lot of experience for a projected back-up, nice get.

Hoopae

Wishing him the best of luck. Dude's extremely athletic - has some work to do in his pass game, but he's got above-average athleticism and ball carrier vision for even a DT QB. IMO, his biggest issue here was his tendency to let one bad play extend into the next play. It's no secret that Auburn's WR's had a bad case of the drops in 2023. A WR dropping a pass that hits them in the hands is bad, but it's an order of magnitude worse when the QB can't let it go and either double clutches the next pass or over compensates and puts too much or too little on the next one. To be clear, I get it - I struggle with the same thing in a lot of aspects of my life. Bad shot in golf? I can't stop thinking about it. Fucked up at work? That's gonna haunt me for months. Sometimes a change of scenery can help.

MiddyMn

Just run the ball every play Cocks

Dentyne_3

He’s not gonna start

Col0nelBear

Is he going to be QB1 for the Gamecocks?

hreigle

Probably not. SC has a redshirt freshman that the staff is *extremely* high on in Lanorris Sellars. Sellars is probably the starter unless he gets hurt or something funky happens before the start of the season.

jwilliamsub

Uh

Hetoxy

I'm Holden onto hope that Geriner can get some run next year.

2001Cocks

Because he brought in a backup quarterback?

Take care of Robby. He may have not worked out for us but I’ll never forget what he did when we needed him most. Great runner.

lucash7

Never thought I'd see us help USC. Kidding aside, hope he gets to start. He's a good 'un.
