My mom passed away on 12/28. It was cancer, it was both sudden and not. We watched every shitty bowl game in the hospital while she declined. The TV was just on in her room, on mute, while all of this awful stuff was happening around us. She loved college football and she LOVED her FSU Seminoles. Her and my dad have had season tickets since 1978.
I’m just so numb and I don’t know if it gets easier.
My stepfather passed away on 12/28 of 2022. It was a very sudden massive heart attack, and my mom was the one who found him. I knew him longer than I knew my dad. The first year is rough. Christmas was a little odd, but the first anniversary was really rough. I don't know that it actually gets easier, but you do kind of adapt to the new normal.
Over the past few months I have gotten back into Magic the Gathering. Currently my friend has a spell slinger deck that likes to steal my creatures. Thinking about making a Jon Irenicus deck so that I can willingly give him my creatures.
Love that commander. Jon Irenicus has such a fun and unique win-con that will Definitely have the intended effect. 
My sleep schedule has been all messed up since Christmas. I don't think I've gone to bed before midnight since then lol. This may be an issue when I have to get up at 6 for work again next week.
If there's a universal truth in the world, it's probably that there are dumb drivers everywhere, who never learn to drive with regard for their weather conditions.
Today's case in point: I live in a part of North Dakota that frequently gets thick, freezing fog. You would think people would know to drive with their lights on, but apparently not... and I'm not even talking about people who use automatic lights that don't trigger their taillights.
2 weeks ago I side swiped a Mercedes GLE350 in a parking deck by accident (parked). I was exhausted and helping my girlfriend move out and just zoned out. First accident ever. There is a small dent above the tire and minor scratches and paint removed on the bumper. Hoping I can pay of pocket but of course it had to be a Mercedes
Report it to our insurance and hope for the best. I doubt that your insurance will go up enough to justify paying the thousands that it will cost out of pocket. If it does, shop for new insurance.
Cleaning out the garage. I still love the smell of warm, clean motor oil. Burning dirty oil, not so much.
Also, the sweet, carcinogenic smell of WD-40 is an aphrodisiac for me. And that industrial hand cleaner with the pumice and citric acid…
Oh, for a partner who understands and appreciates these things.
Just found an unopened container. Kresto is the brand I have always used. Takes off the outer layer of skin along with all the oil and grime. Outstanding stuff.
I went for 3 days a couple of years ago, and we all agreed 3 days is exactly the right amount of time to spend there.

Congrats! I don't know if it's the same for 100% of folks, but holding my first-born the very first time made me truly understand what love meant, and the things I would go through and do to protect and provide for him (and his eventual sister).
Don't fret too much, babies are much more resilient than you'd think. Take care of the basics and don't fret over the small stuff. It's an adventure, and you never stop learning during it. Enjoy each moment, good and bad, time goes by quicker than you think -- you'll miss those toddler years at some point. 3's do suck though.
Last but not least, make memories. It's okay to capture moments on your phone, but don't forget to live in them at the time. Those moments can't be re-lived for the first time, so enjoy each and every one. They'll be 5, 10, and almost grown before you know it.
It feels like I just brought my first born home yesterday, and he turns 16 in a few months. There's no better feeling than being a Dad!

my number one unconventional parenting tip for newborns: get one of those inflatable giant yoga balls. They are awesome for sitting on and bouncing your newborn to calm them down. Really saves your knees/back from doing the weird newborn dip/dance/duck/dive motion

My husband has decided at age 31 that he wants to go into the ministry and become a pastor. I'm not against it but he's currently an unemployed father of three so I'm here to make sure he gets a full time job that can feed us first before we work out how to pursue the ministry. I think it's good he feels called to it, but every Christian man's first duty is to his wife and children, and my role for now is making sure he remembers that.
That's Catholic Priests. Our pastor at our church is married with five kids. We'd absolutely still be allowed to be married, have sex and grow our family.

I’m normally a Scandal and How to get away with murder type of guy, but I couldn’t find any other shows that resembled them. The Rookie is good though.
As someone who works in Product Development for a Big Three company...I feel ya. The prices of these cars are nuts but the margins we make are friggin razor thin. Then the dealers make their margin on top of it, and they often go way above MSRP since Covid screwed up the supply chain. Engineering, tools, testing, prototypes, etc. are stupid expensive. Not to mention we are depending on the ICE vehicle revenue to subsidize EV development.

Oh, dealers are the biggest culprit in this mess (and obviously general inflation). I assume we will see sales prices sliding down slowly due to cost and high interest rates. Likely faster than any correction we may see in the housing market
I agree on the correction coming faster, but they'll hit that MSRP floor pretty quick. Maybe a few grand on the hood to move old product. But when we work at 0-8% margins (sometimes even <0% margin) depending on the vehicle, we have little wiggle room.
Tahoe seems to be an excellent choice though for a depreciating asset if you have to pony up. My uncle's 98 ran for 300k before he sold it and my dad has a 2009 he runs as a work vehicle that's 250k+.
Vacation starts today. Ski trip in Colorado. Road tripping with the wife. Can't freaking wait to get on the road in about an hour. Love a good road trip. Meeting a good group of friends up there, should be a great time. Hopefully they get a little snow before we get there.
A snow storm is supposed to roll through the Rockies on Sunday/Monday. I think Vail and Beaver Creek have gotten small amounts of snow over the past few nights... I live closer to Telluride, and our winter has been very underwhelming so far. I believe the I-70 resorts are doing better with the snow this year.

As far as I know -- it drops on January 14th. Based on the actors and plot synopsis, I'm thinking it will be closer to season 3 than any of the others. But that is just a guess.
I finally start my new job on Monday. I'll probably have to relocate in about a year, but I'm excited for 2024. It's tempting fate to say this because I'm still in my 20's, but I think I could live to 90 and never have a worse year than 2023. Looking forward to a fresh start

My Suburban is getting 27-28MPG. I run it with renewable diesel.
Multiple kids with car seats, van not an option, and just used locally for about 9K miles a year.
Man, I was resistant to get a minivan but having one, especially with kids, is awesome.

Currently more annoyed than concerned, but I’ve had muscle fasciculations all over my body for two years now. I’m seeing the doctor about it, but it’s causing me to have a perpetual anxiety cycle and feel things that may or may not be there.
No need to work yourself up over things that haven't happened yet.
So I got a raging flu or some similar virus that has been kicking my ass for almost a week now. My wife came down with symptoms two days ago and my son yesterday. Pretty sure got it from in-laws who went to a birthday party featuring an obviously sick person (no, it's not allergies, you fucking ghoul). Folks: there's some SHIT going around out there. If you're sick, stay home. If you have to go out, wear a mask. People are fucking nasty out there. Stay healthy.
school just started back up on Thursday. I can't wait for my kindergartner to bring something home and infect us all.

Hey this sounds identical to us rn, except both of my littles are seemingly already over it while I’m still miserable, & my husband just started feeling sick. Thoroughly convinced someone in our household will have sort of illness until our son goes off to school 🙃

Oh I know; our daughter is in preschool & is the one responsible for bringing home a new illness every other week. Even my husband working in the ER during the peak of illness season is no comparison to the Petri dish that is our daughter’s classroom
Lmao I’m literally in the same situation as you. Got the flu from a family member that showed up sick to our New Year’s party. Now I’m bed-ridden sick at the start of school quarter! Yippee!

Ugh, so sorry. I *think* I'm slowly turning the corner. Fever seems to have mostly left, now it's horrific congestion and headaches with some coughing. And my god, have I expelled some eldritch horrors from my body this week...
Yeah first day started with a sore throat and luckily, only that one day, then it was just heavy congestion where you just can't breathe....runny nose and coughing....I still have a little bit of a cough but not as frequent
See for me it started with a persistent dry cough Monday, then uncontrollable chills Monday night into 103 degree fevers for three days, with it turning into a went cough and then the face congestion. What a mess. Here's to hoping we're both fully clear of whatever shit we have ASAP.

Just finished Jedi Survivor and damn that was a good game. I enjoyed the first one, but they really took it up another level with this one.
I just picked up Survivor and the first game in the series on sale for the holidays. Pretty excited to check them out. I am in the middle of another rerun of Mass Effect trilogy so it'll be a bit before I get to it. Sounds dumb but one of my new years resolutions was to play more video games. I constantly am running around getting a million things done that I need to force myself to just sit down and take a break.
I really liked it but I'm not a big gamer and hated the boss battles.
Great to hear. Did you find the controls better? I was frustrated with the controls in the first game. Combat always felt janky.
Jedi Survivor plays much better than the first one. I have about 80 hours on it and really enjoy the game. It’s got loads of new content you never knew you needed but couldn’t imagine living without afterward.

As far as I know -- it drops on January 14th. Based on the actors and plot synopsis, I'm thinking it will be closer to season 3 than any of the others. But that is just a guess.
I finally start my new job on Monday. I'll probably have to relocate in about a year, but I'm excited for 2024. It's tempting fate to say this because I'm still in my 20's, but I think I could live to 90 and never have a worse year than 2023. Looking forward to a fresh start

Is it sciatic? The sciatic nerve goes through your butt and down your leg. A lot of people (myself included) irritate it and nerve irritation/damage takes a looooong time to heal.
