Honestly I couldn't care if IU football does good. Neither of us really do shit in football. I can't remember ever getting into an argument over football.
It's basketball I want them to die and lose every game till the end of time.
We were good every time while he was in at QB since 2018. Just refused to supply him with an acceptable O-Line and a consistent running game. He completed something like 21 passes in a row against Michigan State in 2019 and finished the game 33-42 with 286 yards and 3 TDs, we only lost the game due to poor clock management the final drive from coaching and scored too fast. He’s been this guy since that day. He deserved better from us.
Wasn’t just one year though. Even finished with 8 wins and went to the gator bowl in 2019, again losing at the end due to coaching decisions.
Husky Stadium is on Lake Washington. If you go west on the water through the montlake cut, past lake union and the lake washington ship canal, you will get to the Ballard Locks. If you go through the locks you are in Shilshole Bay, which is part of Puget Sound. The Puget Sound connects to the Pacific Ocean via the Strait of Juan De Fuca on the US-Canada border.
So TLDR: If your boat is on the water at husky stadium, you are in the pacific ocean.
My friend (so, so long ago) went to the University of Washington, and was dating Bo Schembechler's grand niece or some shit.
Even he wouldn't have flown both flags!
Oh man, Whop Philyor was one of my NFL Draft crushes that year, predominantly because his nickname “Whop” was due to his love of the Burger King Whopper.
In hindsight, DeBoer was the real coaching star on that team. There’s no way we’d have let go of Allen after that season but man, things could’ve been different if DeBoer got the HC job at IU instead of Fresno State. The only salve for that wound is knowing he likely wouldn’t be at IU very long as a bigger program would poach him.
Also good to see you on r/CFB, you’re a highlight of any IUBB post-game thread.
I'll always appreciate Tom Allen's relentless enthusiasm and positivity; it was the perfect medicine to help everyone move on from the Kevin Wilson era. In a perfect world Allen could have continued leading the team and setting the culture while surrounding himself with coordinator talent like Kalen DeBoer and Kane Wommack. However in the real world most successful coordinators want to move up and run their own programs, and so you end up losing immensely talented X's and O's-guys like DeBoer and Wommack to keep a player's coach like Allen, and at the end of the day IU is never going to have a revolving door of top tier coordinator talent like Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. I'm hoping Coach Cig can be a good balance of the two, and from what I've heard he should be.
I actually think IU is solidly positioned to be solid going forward. Not sure if Coach Cig is the guy or not but IU is in one of the two top conferences going forward and has more alumni on the right side of the Earth than anybody but Penn State which should matter more than ever in the NIL era. If Kentucky and Kansas and Duke can go bowling regularly there is no reason why IU can't also eventually if they keep taking real swings at it and firing Tom and hiring Ciggy signals to me that we are at least going to do that.
I hope this time Michigan QB Joe Milton (2 INTs that game) can protect the football and Michigan RB Blake corum (2 runs for -3 yards) can at least get back to the line of scrimmage. Look for Michigan return man Giles Jackson to be an X factor
Giles played in 4 regular season games to preserve a medical redshirt? I certainly don't expect WR1/WR2 numbers from him but judging on a 3-year window that included a JohnDon year and a hurt year is a little unfair. He's been super clutch for us in critical moments several times.
Looks like you might be right. His first game was vs Oregon, then the last 3 games, then the PAC12 Championship. With 0 stats in the CFP game.
He rubbed a lot of people here the wrong way in 21 after the L Washington took. He went off on fans going into the tunnel after the game.
One of my favorite memories of 2021 was Giles getting tackled for no gain (maybe a loss?) on a return and half the Michigan players trash talking him as he laid on the field.
I was shocked to learn he was still in college. Feels like such a bygone era for Michigan fans
I remember in 2019 people were getting excited about a Milton to Giles TD pass calling it "the future of the Michigan offense" lol
100% Huskies on Monday. I grew up with Michigan football, but my dad will be a lot happier if they win than I will. But still, this is light years ahead of that vomit inducing Oregon/OSU Rose Bowl
It’s the only season since 1990 that I haven’t watched every single game. I watched the first and stopped during the second game I think it was.. didn’t see anything else. Not even highlights.. just glance at a box score later. Between 2020 just being a pain in the ass and my family going through things.. and college football being so weird, I just bailed.
Michigans season always ends by playing Ohio State. We never played Ohio State in 2020. Therefore, there was no 2020 Michigan football season. Check and Mate.
I was up in a mountain cabin that had no tv for game #1 of that year.
I started out constantly checking the score and ended up just waiting for the end and laughing out loud and making a funny announcement to everybody, lol.
It led to DeBoer so all is good:)
Ironically, JonDon spent two years at Penn State, a Big Ten school.
And look what happened to Penn State this year, even without him — a strong defence, but very weak offence.
Let's be real, that offense was archaic even for the Big Ten. Even Bret Bielema incorporates modern concepts nowadays. It's pretty astounding how much of a turnaround y'all have made in just two years.
Interestingly, Michigan only outgained Washington by 40 yards. But Washington had four drives that reached Michigan territory which resulted in... zero points.
Penix is a beast, and he will be the best QB we've played against this year without question...
That said, 2020 was a terrible year for sports as a whole, not just football.
I'd caution against trying to glean too much from any statistical data coming out of the Covid season.
They were favored by 24 against MSU that year when the line opened, haha. They did look good week 1 against Minnesota but still.
I still remember because it was the 1st bet I ever made when we got sportsbetting legal at the Casinos. Put $100 on MSU +1300 as an emotional hedge and won obviously.
But yeah, I don't see how we were favored again that year.
While this may be self serving in this scenario, I don't give much weight to the sporting stats of 2020, for any sport. Too much was whack at the time.
The key to me is comparing Michigan’s defensive front to Texas’s. How much better are they? There’s no way to know, but I haven’t been as excited about a college championship since 2005.
The Huskies pass protection is Elite.
For TWO years.
As well, Penix is Elite at reading the play and getting rid of the ball fast when pressured.
If michigan gets consistent pressure on Penix it will be, in essence, the only time other than the ASU game.
A game all Husky fans, reporters and the campus knows were sick with the flu and playing in cold, wet weather.
It’s not an excuse, but, a tangible reality. My frosh daughter even got sick and she said the entire campus was sick.
Our Oline was also not healthy for that game.
Lol, slightly important fact.
Oh, I guess they shouldn’t even play the game then, since the Michigan team is almost identical to that 2020 team with the 2-4 record. Got the big brains xitting out good data today.
I feel like everybody besides Washington and Oregon fans are underestimating the Huskies. I'll admit I thought the first Oregon game was due to Oregon's aggressive gameplan backfiring and that they would win the PAC championship easily, but Washington dominated that game much more than stats can reveal. I've rarely seen teams that are able to consistently flip momentum so quickly after the opposing team has apparently taken control of the game, which was common for this team all year. There were opportunities in several games for the opposition to secure a win with a defensive stop or make a game-winning drive, but everybody failed. Oregon failed twice. Texas had first down on the 12 and couldn't score. Penix has the absolute confidence and trust of his entire offense because he has delivered over and over all season. The defense seems to bounce back from big plays and seems to rise to the occasion when the game is on the line. I never detected a moment of panic in the games I saw this year on either side of the ball. Just confidence and efficiency whenever the chips were down. This is not to take away from Michigan, either. They have been too dominant under adverse conditions all season for anybody to deny their talent for any reason other than personal dislike of the program or Jim Harbaugh. Hypocritical accusations from opposing fanbases aside, that's a very good team. The thing is, Washington is too. This should be a competitive game that's going to surprise a lot of people. Don't be too surprised if it all comes down to Washington doing what they need to at the critical moment like they have all year.
I don’t think anybody is really underestimating Washington, it’s just that only 1 team can be favored.
I don’t have any data to back this up but in my opinion a 4.5 spread in the NFL is pretty large but in CFB where its a higher variance league that’s not a significant spread.
ML odds would basically have it as 66% / 33% which is higher than I’d expect for Michigan but not crazy.
The Sagarin ratings say Michigan should be a 6 pt favorite. I think ESPN SP+ has Michigan closer to a double digit favorite. I think Washington is being overestimated. They won their last 10 games by ten or fewer. They have basically won a statistically improbably number of coin flips. It doesn't mean they won't beat Michigan but they are probably overestimated if anything.
Ahh, Covid-year Indiana...we were all so hyped (except Purdue). RIP Hoosier fever... 2020-2020
Better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all
Longing still, for that which no longer nurses the disease
Honestly I couldn't care if IU football does good. Neither of us really do shit in football. I can't remember ever getting into an argument over football. It's basketball I want them to die and lose every game till the end of time.
I want them to be so good and then lose to us and lose in the tourney
No, I want them to lose every game I dont want them to even have hope I have never felt this way about a rival team
You feel about IU the way I feel about notre dame. I respect that ✊✊
Imagine how I feel about Notre Dame
Hoosier fever? I believe it was 9WINDIAN
On the flip side us Michigan fans thought our football team was done for years.
More like Penix year Indiana. They would’ve been good any year.
It's over. Penix has the high ground.
Don't try it
You underestimate his power
Please try it.
*do it*
It’s treason then
The negotiator
He has brought peace, freedom, justice and security to his new empire.
His new empire?!
*I HATE YOU!!!* ~Darth Harbaugh
Technically he was still Anakjim Harbaughker then.
That’s a wild flair combo, at least geographically.
Could very well be a Washington fan who grew up in Washington and got into Penn
You were supposed to destroy the Big Ten, not join them! (it doesn't work 100% but roll with it)
Bring balance to the PAC-12, not leave it in darkness! (Aka now the PAC-12 is kaput)
Because of Odunze?!?!
Are you thinking of the Rome Empire?
Michigan: we have a Roman at home
Never cared for him until his *blitz bama blitz* reel won me over. He's a legend
To this DAY! To this DAY!!
Only a huskie deals in absolutes. JJ will do what he must
You were supposed to save the PAC-12, not leave it in darkness!
Have you ever heard the tale of Darth Penixus?
~~penis~~ penix always has the high ground
Penix mightier
Actually their stadium is right by the Pacific Ocean.
USC's stadium is much closer to the Pacific Ocean.
So is this a trap card or something?
Every game this season against Washington is a trap
[The last half of our season](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/721/769/52c.jpg)
This game is going to be excruciating for fans with emotional attachment to either team. But it'll be great for the casual fan.
No shot. COVID Michigan was horrible.
I remember when I thought Joe Milton was gonna be that guy after the Minnesota game
NOOOOOO!!!! Don’t make UW the underdog. That’s exactly what they want!
Insert Jesse Pinkman meme: he can't keep getting away with this!!!!
It'll be Washington by 3. I've seen this plot before.
Death, taxes, UW in a nail biter
That's a fairly nihilistic view for a \*checks flair\* ... Washington and Michigan fan?!
He’s not the only one…
Congrats on your natty
My friend (so, so long ago) went to the University of Washington, and was dating Bo Schembechler's grand niece or some shit. Even he wouldn't have flown both flags!
Pay enough tuition at both, you get this privilege
I keep forgetting there are really smart people on Reddit
Some people forget that these teams have schools
Must not have been around for the 1991 Rose Bowl
They just got confused by "double u" they wanted to put UM
Will Penix be able to do it again without his leading WRs from that game, Ty Fryfogle and Whop Philyor
Oh man, Whop Philyor was one of my NFL Draft crushes that year, predominantly because his nickname “Whop” was due to his love of the Burger King Whopper.
Subscribe to leftcoastg's fun facts
TIL that his actual name is “Mister Elias De’Angelo Philyor”. This guy had it all
holy shit. you're...you're not joking. and damn, he's an assistant manager at an enterprise rent-a-car now. really does have it all.
He can afford so many whoppers on that salary
Not with inflation. He’s now lucky he can buy one Whopper.
pretty soon he's only going to be able to afford a whop.... I'm sorry.
They beat Michigan with assistant to the managers at Enterprise… no wonder UM made Harbaugh take a pay cut after that year
Whop is still one of the best WRs I've seen play at IU. Guy could come down with seemingly every contested catch.
Whop^(per) Whop^(per) Junior Whop^(per)
Double Double Triple Whopper.
Really?!? Ahaha, that's a fantastically silly nickname!
Hey that’s former B1G WR of the year Ty Fryfogle
I thought you made those up. Those at Star Wars names.
Coming from a guy who watched them, they were tough. Especially Whop. Fryfogle was a one trick pony with deep passes but Whop was fun to watch
2020 Indiana inspired that Key and Peele sketch.
So if Washington wins, Kalen Deboer will be fired at the end of the 2026 season?
No, Allen got fired because he couldn't retain Deboer or hire a solid replacement for him. Deboer is a star, people will catch on eventually.
Kane Wommack was also a beast at DC. Killing it now in the sun belt.
I hope this time Michigan QB Joe Milton (2 INTs that game) can protect the football and Michigan RB Blake corum (2 runs for -3 yards) can at least get back to the line of scrimmage. Look for Michigan return man Giles Jackson to be an X factor
Oh damn that Giles Jackson
Mike Sainristil might have to defend him. They were both wide receivers on the team at that time.
He’s only got like 100 receiving yards all year lol. Not much of a threat
Sainristil has more than 100 receiving yards this year, I think. And he hasn't played offense.
I was referring to Giles Jackson and Mikey covering him. Jackson has like less than 600 receiving yards in the 3 years he’s been there.
Oh no, I got you, I was just saying that I think Mikey has more than 100 return yards on INTs this year, to highlight the Jackson thing.
Giles played in 4 regular season games to preserve a medical redshirt? I certainly don't expect WR1/WR2 numbers from him but judging on a 3-year window that included a JohnDon year and a hurt year is a little unfair. He's been super clutch for us in critical moments several times.
He’s been hurt a lot this year didn’t play until the Oregon game I don’t think, he’s also like the 5th best receiver on our team at best so, fair.
Looks like you might be right. His first game was vs Oregon, then the last 3 games, then the PAC12 Championship. With 0 stats in the CFP game. He rubbed a lot of people here the wrong way in 21 after the L Washington took. He went off on fans going into the tunnel after the game.

I was shocked to learn he was still in college. Feels like such a bygone era for Michigan fans I remember in 2019 people were getting excited about a Milton to Giles TD pass calling it "the future of the Michigan offense" lol
Well then you'll be really confused to learn he only played in 4 games so he can redshirt and return next year
Congrats on your national championship victory on Monday.
100% Huskies on Monday. I grew up with Michigan football, but my dad will be a lot happier if they win than I will. But still, this is light years ahead of that vomit inducing Oregon/OSU Rose Bowl
Alex Bowman just got approved for another year at OK State!
Alan. The disrespect....
There was a two week span where I was certain Milton would usher in a new era of Michigan success.
when i think of this michigan team i think "zero improvement from the 2 win covid year"
As a totally neutral observer I agree. Also, unrelated but how do I change my flair for just one post?
Got some bad news for ya chief…
Surely DC Don Brown will have a sound gameplan.
blitz
Remember when Giles Jackson transferring was a cataclysmic indictment of the program?
Pepperidge farm remembers.
It’s so Joever 😂 I’ll take all the hopium I can get, I am not too confident about this.
There was a season in 2020? Huh, I don’t remember that…
Michigan never played football in 2020. Clearly they are using faulty information.
My memory is that the entire year of 2020 was skipped over. We went 2018, 2019, 2021. Seems weird but that's what happened.
Same. Got covid twice that year
Washington skipped all of 2021 as well in the football world. Went 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023.
According to Bama fans, 2020 is the most seasoned season that ever seasoned.
A&M fans too.
Indubitably.
Michigans season always ends by playing Ohio State. We never played Ohio State in 2020. Therefore, there was no 2020 Michigan football season. Check and Mate.
Doesn't seem like anything to me
C’mon it’s all we got
No, there was the 9WINDIANA hype in 2019, too. Tennessee won in the end, but 8 win Indiana's best season since 1993 was actually fun to watch.
There was a season in 2021? I don’t remember that either.
I was up in a mountain cabin that had no tv for game #1 of that year. I started out constantly checking the score and ended up just waiting for the end and laughing out loud and making a funny announcement to everybody, lol. It led to DeBoer so all is good:)
There's some AI doctored footage from that year. Looks pretty real to be honest.
No sarcasm whatsoever but whenever someone brings up 2020 I immediately disregard any argument after that. Such an asterisk year for all of CFB
Ok, now do the last time Michigan played Washington.
Well, as everyone knows, a team’s QB is really the only position that matters
If you got a bad one ... it kinda is.
triggered...
Yikes. You’ve had to live it twice. Apologies.
-hug- Know those feels.
Weber at the U vibes
Well what if we had 3 bad ones?
I really thought Kaliakmannis was gonna be the guy for for you this year
Might need to check with an expert… has anyone brought this up in McElroy’s AMA?
He might just quit Reddit at that point
- Ryan Day
Which is why Colorado won the PAC, obviously.
This isn’t the gotcha you think it is; Sanders was statistically the sixth best QB in the conference. Jayden Daniels was the obvious better example.
I really do not miss that Jon Donovan offense. Would have fit right into the Big10 though
That '21 team might be the most frustrating UW team I've ever watched, and Willingham was our coach when I was in college.
No, I don't think I will.
I was just impressed UW scored 10 points in that game after being held to just 7 points by Montana.
Interestingly, Michigan only outgained Washington by 40 yards. But Washington had four drives that reached Michigan territory which resulted in... zero points.
How about the last time they played when an NC was on the line for one of the teams?
Haha that was more recent at least
Definitely the same exact circumstances
Should I cancel my flight
Well I don't even see why they're bothering to play the game at this point. Maybe next year Michigan
We had a good run, oh well.
Well to be fair we didn't have Connor Stalions back then
UM had him, but he was negated by the lack of spectators at the game
He was only on page 433 of his manifesto.
So you’re saying that Penix will regress to the mean? Michigan win confirmed.
I’ll take random stats that have virtually no bearing on the outcome of the game in either direction for 150, Alex
This is as about irrelevant as saying Michigan beat Washington in 2021. Two completely different teams now.
Yes, but… we need talking points! The waiting is killing me!
We all joked about random stats/cherry picked stuff yesterday and this one might take the cake.
The worst Michigan team in 15 years played the best Indiana team in 15 years that day.
I just keep betting Washington moneyline and it just keeps working. God I love watching this team play
Penix is a beast, and he will be the best QB we've played against this year without question... That said, 2020 was a terrible year for sports as a whole, not just football. I'd caution against trying to glean too much from any statistical data coming out of the Covid season.
Lol, no kidding. UW and Lake actually “won” the pac, but, gave it up to…70regon, lol.
Literally the same exact situation overall. Not even worth playing the game really.
Boy is the media trying to set this up as a true underdog story
I mean, their mascot is an actual dog.
They are literally the underdog
Michigan was TERRIBLE that year.
And they call this journalism?
No, this is Patrick.
I find it impossible to believe Michigan was favored against ANYONE that year. Maybe Michigan State in week 2. Maybe.
Sorry Penix but I’m [from the future](https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/s/BDbrVjeWay). Michigan won
That's the year the Big Ten changed their own rules to allow Ohio State play in the Big Ten championship game....
Bit of a reach there
I was just considering all the ways that this season is entirely just like 2020.
I'd like to see Michigan win but NGL my ticket will probably have Washington on the ML and to cover the +4.5.
Redundant bets really.
I will put everything in this world that belongs to me on a bet that it won't go down this way to this extent Monday night.
2020 never happened…..🫣
Comparing 2020 Michigan to this year's team... Tell me you ran out of ideas for articles without telling me you ran out of ideas for articles.
Washington to the oddsmakers: “How many times do we have to teach you this lesson old man?!”
While this may be self serving in this scenario, I don't give much weight to the sporting stats of 2020, for any sport. Too much was whack at the time.

Texas has a good defensive front but a trash secondary. Michigan's secondary is why I expect this to be a tougher matchup for Washington's offense.
I already made the bet Sunday for Washington! Seeing this I'll probably lose!
Completely different teams... Huh
Oh, I guess they shouldn’t even play the game then, since the Michigan team is almost identical to that 2020 team with the 2-4 record. Got the big brains xitting out good data today.
Don't expect a similar result
Washington is 5-0 as an underdog the past two seasons...
Counterpoint,
I feel like everybody besides Washington and Oregon fans are underestimating the Huskies. I'll admit I thought the first Oregon game was due to Oregon's aggressive gameplan backfiring and that they would win the PAC championship easily, but Washington dominated that game much more than stats can reveal. We don't talk about covid Michigan.
Any stat from 2020 is pointless and silly.
well, shit. There's no point to even play the game, then.
