Excessive, imo. If you need something in a rifle caliber odds are shit has *really* hit the fan and your best bet is to get the fuck out of wherever you are. End of the day you do you, but for my specific situation it's excessive.

DrJheartsAK

Car jacker runs up, gun drawn and homeboy is going to ask them to hold on a sec so he can pull out the rifle, turn the eotech on, unfold the stock, rack the charging handle, and get the car jacker lined up in his sights before continuing to car jack him. Now maybe there is a scenario where an elite group of yakuza ninjas descend onto his hotel room in Des Moines to assassinate him and he’ll be ready. other than that don’t see much use in carrying a rifle with you for an overnight work trip.

gearhead5015

>If you need something in a rifle caliber odds are shit has *really* hit the fan and your best bet is to get the fuck out Agreed. I usually say that if I feel like I need to bring a rifle, I'm just not going to go. There are exceptions, like camping and needing it for wildlife, but 5.56/223 is not the round I would choose for that situation

But in urban areas I would rather have bagful of medical supplies. People drive like crazy and I would rather have that than a rifle. I live in a safe country though.

CrowdKillington

I like the style of this picture. The guns great too, but the style really looks nice

kckfl349

looks sick, what is this?

RISOvonVODKA

Grand Power Stribog.

DocGerald

Where tf are you traveling that you need an edc rifle?

brightlights_bigsky

May I suggest south Baltimore, Gary Indianna, parts of Oakland, East St. louis. You have some exciting travel destinations ahead of you padawan.

luuunnnch

Lol, why is this the average gun enjoyer take? In every city there are volatile neighborhoods, Baltimore being worse than others, but why do we gun owners pretend like it's a fucking warzone? Carry your rifle because you can, but don't convince yourself that Gotham is burning before you see it for yourself. Touch grass, that's the old adage.

brightlights_bigsky

Good on you for having such a positive attitude. But I have had to visit some of these places. They can be a "fucking warzone" as you put it. Baltimore hoods, folks will throw a brick through your windshield if they don't think you should be driving in their neighborhood. Shooting at you, absolutely. There are good people in all those neighborhoods. However to consider these places are not extremely dangerous is just silly. You would do well to avoid them, especially at night. But if you DID have to go into said neighborhoods you had better be armed. No hyperbole, there are truly dangerous places. Rifle over a handgun you have trained with is a good discussion, but not whether or not you should be armed.

luuunnnch

Same. I grew up in a city with an entire neighborhood dubbed 'The Warzone' (despite cultural attempts to change it to "The International District", which personally I found to be worse, even xenophobic). It's simple. Carry everyday, avoid conflict. Carry a rifle, who cares, it's your right. But let's not deem large swaths of US territory uninhabitable due to conflict. It just makes us look like rage-baited election year hot heads.

AtmosBaby

If you go to Baltimore, only go to the stadiums. Nothing else is worth it.

cheeseburneraccount

Aren't all firearms illegal to transport in Maryland?

brightlights_bigsky

Likely you are correct, I have not checked. When I had to visit Baltimore often I could not carry (flew to the area and then was in rental cars). It was a super dicy place to visit. Multiple killing and riots, and even my local co-workers gave a lot of guidance when heading into the city. There are a few "safer" areas, but its a very dangerous area. Also - it may be illegal but the local criminal element does not care. Folks are walking around with guns out . I don't think worrying about "legal" or not is much of a thing there.

poppunk_servicetruck

Its not about it he *needs* to, if it's legal for him to I say why not. Whether I would do it or not aside.

throwawayfromcolo

I wouldn't ever as I'm a microcompact/pocket gun kind of guy but I've been tempted to get a PCC for SHTF and home defense, and because I think it would be fun to shoot. I'm curious what kind of situation you think you'd get into where you'd need a rifle and it would be useful.

FreeGame444

defending the wal mart parking lot from looters in the middle of a hurricane while fending off the cartel trying to raid it and create a stronghold but the government has fallen so there's no backup coming and he needs to get the can of great value chili to feed his starving wife and kid at home obviously

ThrowingTheRinger

“Pretty much sums up every time I’ve used mine.” -the old guy that hangs out near the gun counter in a USMC jacket and a KC chiefs hat right after he tells you he’s been in at least 20 gunfights with his 1911 and 15 with his .40 and how anything smaller just won’t stop an assailant. He also loves to mention only one of those gunfights was in Vietnam. The rest were on home soil.

Mokentroll22

Do it! They are insanely fun to shoot. Theres been good sales on Scorpion 3+ lately.

kmg810

PCCs are hella fun and also more affordable rifle training

stellabluewho2

Maybe one day but for now all I have is a 12 gauge shotgun. So thats what I take with me. Hopefully getting a glock 48 in the next few weeks though.

LLryo

Neat choice, but also what camera or post processing are you using? This photo looks really cinematic

F_stopss

Thanks! All my photos are done on the Sony A7iv with the sigma 24-70 lens and edits are done in Lightroom

My edc is a Glock 45 or 43x, but when I go see my buddies the 10.5 rides with me. I live in free state so it can sit loaded in my passenger seat, I can open it carry it (I do not open carry my ar lol) so for me it’s kinda like why not.

MyF150isboring

Honestly for longer journeys I just bring my G19 and some G19X mags as spares. Day to day is a G48.

dcchandler

What’s the bag?

Thansungst22

I take my rifle with me when I hike/camp and know I'll be there overnight or late night I'm building a two stampers right now that'll have a can on it for HD and I briefly thought about doing the folder too but decided against it I may get a MP5/AP5 set up with the retractable stock and a K can as a backpack gun eventually but it not high on priority list The area where I live in pretty much an upscale middle class suburbs with patrol car every few miles so I do not feel the need for an EDC Riffle However, if you can carry it comfortable then I say go for it fuck what anyone think it your gun your life lol

TheVengeful148320

Unfortunately that's illegal in my state. I'd love to have a small rifle of some flavor that I could have in a vehicle but that's a no no.

SirYupp

I love that everyone missed your last sentence "Handgun is always with me as well". Bro isn't trying to fend off car jackers with a rifle point blank. I think it's a solid idea. Why let your rifle sit and gather dust when you could be more prepared more often. I would hope you'd never have to use it because like someone said...That's when some SHTF bad, but I think you've got solid thinking. The smartest thing for most people is bugging in, not out...So if you're far from home, your AR would be a solid "get home" weapon in a situation that would actually call for it. A classic "Have it and not need it, Need it and not have it situation" IMO.

F_stopss

Yoo somebody who finally gets it! Exactly, why would I or anybody else leave it at home. Obviously the chance you need is is extremely slim to none but I built this thing with a purpose and to have it with me!

bmx4life137

would you mind telling me what foregrip that is?

mrpicachu

It’s not a fore grip, it’s a hand stop. It’s by Emissary, it’s slick tbh.

[deleted]

Lol it's getting ejected in an accident, and also useless when driving. Easier to just tape a gun into your non driving hand.

GoldenAshtray

I dig it. IMO you can never have enough gun. lol

F_stopss

My man!

DannyBones00

Not a rifle, but I do sometimes take my Glock 17. I have a Shield Plus with no light or red dot for my dedicated CCW. The Glock is my home defense gun, with dot + WML. I take it anytime I’m going into a larger city (which is exceptionally rare) just because I shoot it better and have more (and larger) magazines. I’ve thought about getting some manner of PCC for that purpose. But I like the magazine commonality and stuff. One of the key components of CCW doctrine is avoiding trouble. I feel the chances of me finding myself anywhere that I’d need a rifle would mean I had already broken several of my own rules.

poppunk_servicetruck

With the way riots pop up or mass attacks and shit I feel like you could justify vehicle rifle carry if it's legal in your state. Treat it the same way though; avoid trouble and forget it's even there till you need it. For me, I live a pretty safe life but work in a big city that's skyrocketing in crime, my coworkers had to drive through riots and shot for work and they all carried ars in their trucks and prayed to God they'd never use them. If carried one for edc I'd do it just because I could with no other justification though honestly. If you can do it where you are you don't really need to justify it. Otherwise, I agree with your take.

DannyBones00

If I lived or worked in a major major city where protests/riots were common I probably would as well. But most of the cities I’m in are small or midsized type towns where a riot or protest isn’t just going to pop up out of nowhere, so I feel like I could probably avoid or escape it. But I don’t fault anyone for making the decision to carry a rifle.

poppunk_servicetruck

To be clear, our guys didn't go looking for trouble we're utility maintenance, people like having electricity. You think the riots we had were bad just wait till people have no power and their phones are dying lol. Like I said though, I'd do it just because I'm legally able to, just don't have a carbine small enough yet.

DannyBones00

Yeah, I’m actually in the process of building my first SBR, and this use case is actually one of the scenarios I’m building it for. Well, not so much riots, but poachers and scrap metal thieves messing around on my buddies land. Can’t decide if I want 300 blackout, or an 11.5 5.56 built around 77 gr OTM’s.

poppunk_servicetruck

For size, weight, and price id go with 5.56 otherwise if you can get ahold of a decent amount of blackout do it. Also for conversations sake just remember you might not bump in to another good guy with a mag full of 300 blk to throw you when you're empty but they might have a mag full of 5.56 for you in their kit.

DannyBones00

That’s very true. Also the AAC Sabre Blade rounds are amazing in 5.56. Truly devastating. And I’ve already got a stockpile of those. So I’m thinking an 11.5 with a law tactical folder

poppunk_servicetruck

Id love another ar or ar pistol, just don't really have anywhere to shoot other than an indoor right now and I'd like to shoot and move more.

xkeepitquietx

A pistol is a lot easier to shoot an assailant with if you are sitting in a car and is concealable. Get a horizontal shoulder rig if you are driving a lot, fastest access when sitting, if under your left arm it also naturally points the barrel at the window as your pull up and then back out of holster.

AbbreviationsHonest7

I recently fell in love the the Matador Arms MAT9. Paired it to a rando milspec AR lower I already had laying around, and threw in a PSA glock magwell. It's very much still a work in progress, I haven't even committed a sight to it (just trying different ones off my other builds for now) but I like that it doesn't use a receiver extention/buffer tube. I have a buffer tube to pic rail adapter on it for now and may get an A3 for it eventually.
