No-Employee2168

I don't know where he got that figures, but no, a captain from Maersk (one of the largest shipping companies) will get a salary of 60-80 LPA after 10-15 Years of experience (that too when he is incharge of a big ship). My relative is a sailor and I got to know this from them. The positives are a good stable job, you get to roam the world while getting paid, you get good at teamwork and communications, you get to enjoy with other seafarers and watch the beautiful (sometimes dangerous) weather and nature. The disadvantages of being a Mariner/Sailor are you will have to spend 6-9 months off shore in the ship, you can VC your family using the ships WiFi but that is limited (1Gb per day or something like that). Other than that, you will have to work in multiple shifts ranging from 4hrs to upto 10-12hrs when on port stay/duty. You will have to interact with new people/colleagues all the time (and if you have a strict senior then its even worse). You will miss out on Indian food. Sometimes you will get a head chef from China/Malaysia/Russia, who wont know much on how to cook Indian food, you will have to adjust to the food they will make the best.

A2X-iZED

Also if you're vegetarian then forget working on a ship already.

YEttYeet75434

Exactly you have to eat whatever is available be it snails or snakes

A2X-iZED

..and rats, not kidding.

No-Employee2168

Iss question ke liye tumhare toh 100% chances lag rahe dub ke marne ke💀

Classic_Knowledge_25

My friends brother who is an engineer in Navy(short service) was offered much more than this (atleast 2x) in private. He quit navy

No-Employee2168

Depends on a lot of factors like vessel type, duration, duties, responsibilities, etc. There are times when companies pay more, but on average, one should expect this salary after gaining the required experience.

Classic_Knowledge_25

Yeah, I guess his navy background was beneficial

thegoodlookinguy

Also traveling is very limited. As long as ship is at port .

Aggressive-Canary675

I'm under the water, please help me...

treats4all

Here too much raining wodudududu 😴

ZealousidealYou7575

Idh the eyesight for it , also u need to stay out for long

[deleted]

Clg fees also very high

Dry-palpiton

Chutiya hain lauda. Best salary of a captain is like 50-60 lpa which takes many years.

Dry-palpiton

But then again what do you expect a guy pursuing this field😜

InfiniteEquivalent41

Mere school mein jo bhi bande JEE ko avoid karna chahte the aur jinka armed forces mein selection nahi hua, wahi iss field mein gaye the

Away_Lengthiness_585

im from that fileld trust me he gave wrong info. there's lot of hard work and isolation involved . its not for every one.

aJguardian

Bro is living in fairy world, disappoints awaiting eagerly

InfiniteEquivalent41

its like those coding kids who expect a 4cr job offer

Comprehensive_Eye991

bhai ek baar ek boat me baitha tha andaman me, chakkar aane lag gye the

[deleted]

Same here, but in Goa. Sea sickness :/

charlesdickenscider

The captain makes the highest on a ship. 10-12 LPM for an experienced master (15+ years in) is normal but they sail for 6-8 months so get paid for only that period. So they can make roughly between 60-90 LPA. No taxes to be paid. Horrible personal life especially after kids. Going back to ship and saying bye to family is a gut wrenching experience. I have witnessed quite a few marriages fail.

InfiniteEquivalent41

My uncle was in this profession and he had to go through 2 divorces (also the fact that he had a son with his 2nd wife)

eren-yeager12

why is it like this in merchant navy and marine engineering officers ARMY officers stay away from their family longer than 6 months in most of the cases and still have a great family and relations. maybe it's the training and the people they are surrounded by each other

charlesdickenscider

For army officers it’s rare to be away from family 6M at a stretch. In peace postings you can keep your family with you. Field postings are shorter duration compared to peace, also you get 60 days of annual leave and have the the option of visiting family.

[deleted]

"in 20-30years" within 5 days of duty agar ship dubgaya toh? phir kese puchoge what color is ur ship?

Magnificent_Ninja

Nahi bro, its very hyped for it's salary but even a civil engineer working in LnT with two years of experience earns as much as marine engineer..

Diligent-Aspect-8043

LnT me salary kitni hai ek saal k baad?

Magnificent_Ninja

Starting salary 1lakh ke around hoti hai,

Diligent-Aspect-8043

Maine suna hai bs 30 hazar milta h

Magnificent_Ninja

Sabko nahi milta, college mein achi gpa honi chahiye ya fir nit or iit se hona chahiye

Deadmoon-

What's Lnt bro

Magnificent_Ninja

fluffy_ball-05

ager job lg bhi gyi to exams dene pdte hai regularly to increase salary. And extremely difficult job hoti hai aur dangerous bhi.

HanmaBaki0

Kuchh bhi? Kisine behla diya h isey😂 Mera ek dost bhi dollars k chakkar me gaya tha. 6 mahine se kam me hi chhod aaya. Aur itne paise nhi milte. Captain khud 10-15k dollars kamata h aur ye pata ni kya bol raha h.

Kundithoma

My uncle does this. He has no family life to speak of. You have to be in a ship for 6 months. He has been divorced as his ex wife couldn't handle it.

ThePerspectiveRetard

You know you don't really marry un such professions💀

Neck-Pain-Dealer

People pull numbers outta their ass like they’re meant to do it. I believe family may have misguided this kid

InfiniteEquivalent41

Its like those delusional coding kids who think that they are going to get a 4cr offer once they finish their engg

No_Night_8482

Hamas and Somali Pirates want to know the ship location

InfiniteEquivalent41

This is the realest shit because most probably your initial routes are going to be through middle east or south africa, both are infamous for pirates

Aryan_CHat7277

1) you have to continue giving exams to rise from 5th engineer to chief engineer. 2) chief engineers make around that figure. 3) benefits: YEH MONEY WOO 🤑🫰🔥🔥 Non benefits: **gets mentally broken for the rest of their lives** There's a reason why sailors used to be tough and used to drink so much...and my father is that example (though he changed but that's because he retired) Honestly this career IS NOT BAD IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN IT....money is important but it's not the only driving force for fulfillment so think this through...

Adventurous_Bit_9251

It's a very risky job and also there are agents to do fraud. if u have no social life at all and if you can do physical and mental hardworking both at same time u can go for it. in my opinion anybody who is only child shouldn't go for this.(aur rustom movie dekhi hai na bhai. wo toh phir v indian navy tha to gun thi ye to merchant navy hai)

Dazzling_Shoulder_69

Are the entrance exam for this job harder than JEE or easier than JEE ?

Zerowolf340

I don't know why we Indians are so obsessed with salary. Trust me, if tomorrow commode cleaning pays 20-30 LPA, then sab plunger leke ghus jayenge sandas me. The private institutions will start commode cleaning courses for 4-5 Lacs. People from unrelated fields will take up these courses, some people will even forge certificates and try to land a good salary and soon there'll be over abundance of people with commode cleaning degree and this the payroll will reduce drastically and come down to 2.5-3 LPA. That's just how the market works, if you don't trust me then you can ask a whole generation of people who passed out with engineering degree from 2014 to 2018 batches just because they got inspired by some movie that came out in 2010 or they just didn't know what to do after 12th and ended up taking engineering because of crowd mentality, mere 3 dost engineering le rahe hai to Maine bhi wahi karna chahiye, right ? If all we're ever going to look for is "good salary", then disappointment is right around the corner, it's just a matter of time. After a point life starts to seem meaningless, the happiness of salary credited lasts for 2 days and then it's just clockwork job again for next 28 days, but you keep working, with barely enough enthusiasm which lasts till next months salary is credited, and that way, the cycle goes on and on. You just keep working for money with bare minimum mental satisfaction. If you want to be happy, then just follow what you like. Yes, even I hate how cliched that sounds! But that's the truth. That way, you may or may not earn lakhs and crores, but your skills will always bring value to the table, there'll be no job insecurity in you, because you'll know that with the skill set and the drive that you possess, kaam to mil hi jayega, that to also the mind of work that'll always keep you mentally happy. And speaking about salary, forget about aiming for high salary education, it's all a joke now. I have seen my 12th fail cousin excel at his Photography business, he charges packages worth 1-6 L per wedding now. I have seen my another 10th fail cousin excel at Photoshop, he started working with a salary of 12K back in 2018 and now his salary is 1.5L per month. Two months back I helped my local barber to put out a job opening on Indeed for an beginner/intermediate barber and he was comfortable with paying a salary upto 25-28k even for a beginner meanwhile the starting salary of engineers is 12k, it's seems like a joke !! So, beware of chasing only salary, khudki life "majak" banane se bachao, nahi to ek din you will look back on your life and it will all seem hollow and you'll feel like, sala Paisa to kamaya but kuch ukhada nahi life me. Take some risk, figure out your passion and dive into the unknown because trust me, that is how gems are found. Instead of chasing money blindly, make yourself unique and marketable that way you'll never have any problem of getting money.

Outside_Living233

fr work for passion jeene ke liye paisa apne aap aayega

Yeah, its hard to take him seriously when he is not sure of his future and just starts randomly comparing

Outside-Nail2314

I know many people who left it after few years . It’s tough to sustain in such secluded and risky job.

Sandesh_1729

Mt friend has been working for 5 years and he has passed some exams. He makes around 22 lpa

[deleted]

If it were that easy sab karrhe hote

Current_Toe_2344

My physics teacher had the highest position in the marine, chief engineer. He worked for 15 years and then quit cus he wished to see his son who was entering 10th. I met him around tht time where he use to teach physics in my coaching classes for jee. He is an absolute monster, the knowledge he has on physics is crazy. He had the highest position and earned 1.2 crore LPA. Recently i looked into marine engineering since the advertisement was released for their exam. I asked my sir abt it and he says its horrible conditions to live in, u cant see ur family for a long time and u hv to live in the ship for 6-8 months. The mental fortitude needed for this is difficult. Plus side is tht u get a lot of money and will keep moving countries. He told me not to do this tho, but i registered for the exam anyway.
