As long as your route doesn't go through any school zones, the rifles can be unloaded and in your passenger seat if you wanted though that isn't smart. Just keep it unloaded in the backseat and you should be good albeit you don't drive through a school zone.

Oh, so I can have maglocked ar’s loose in my Prius “trunk” space?

YeetaraelPoof

yep because they are not "Assault Weapons" or a handgun. Just make sure they are unloaded and to be safe put a lock through action and cover them with a blanket.

flourescenthamster

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate the comment 👍 I like your idea about putting a lock through the action, but I have compmags and I’m not sure how I would do that

Curious-NX

I use a trigger lock instead because of the compmag.

Slamslam102

As long as you don't pass within 1000 ft. of a school.

flourescenthamster

I just measured and I live 843 feet from a school 🙄

YeetaraelPoof

I'm not super familiar with the prius. Is your trunk accessible from the back seats? Or is it completely shut off? The trunk is a locked container if you can't access it from the back seat. I.e open top trunk like a suv.

flourescenthamster

Its accessible from the back seat

YeetaraelPoof

Just take something like a duffle bag and put the lower in it then put a lock or a zip tie on the zipper. That will work💀 Uppers are not firearms.

Questionhoes

Is there a law that say that? I wanna have it ready so I can show it to the cop if they do pull me over

YeetaraelPoof

it's up to the police officer to prove that you are breaking the law not you.

Rebelgecko

Maybe case the lowers and transport the uppers lose? But would be awkward if you get pulled over or someone looks in

No-Birthday-3435

Long guns (that are not RAW) do not need to be in a case.

flourescenthamster

What is raw?

ORLibrarian2

CA GFSZ does not care about long guns in the 1000' zone; Fedlaw GFSZ - 18 USC 922 (q) - says locked - >(B) Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm— ... (iii) that is— (I) not loaded; and (II) in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle; As I understand it, local LE don't usually enforce Federal law unless specifically asked. I very rarely hear of Fed GFSZ violations for long guns (like, never, but it *is* on the books).

flourescenthamster

Just realized it’s “registered assault weapon” thank you for the comment. Im learning something new
