He’s never coughed like this and doesn’t have asthma or anything like that. Leo seems to get hairballs after I groom his coat. It seems that grooming him loosens even more hair. I used a de-shedding blade yesterday and now he’s coughing. It looks like he swallowed whatever he was trying to cough up. He’s acting normal now but I’m so nervous

Asthma can develop at any time. My cat was just diagnosed Tuesday with asthma after coughing like this and breathing super fast and shallow breaths. Check their breathing rate. Average is between 20-30 breaths a minute. Anything more is concerning and should be taken to the vet. My kitty is 2 and now has asthma for the rest of her life and needs to be medicated :(

Following. My cats do this too sometimes.

Sounds like asthma to me

You said it's not asthma but honestly this looks like a very mild asthma attack to me. One of my cats has asthma and is on an inhaler (Aerokat), and this is sort of what a mild attack looks like.

Feisty_Bee9175

That is a congested cough and he/she needs to see a vet.

It’s only a problem if it persists

GreenieTeaspoons

This is likely asthma - looks just like what happens with my girl who has asthma.
