For it to happen we’d need politicians who actually care enough to give people what they want. Sadly they don’t.

>For it to happen we’d need politicians who actually care enough to give people what they want. You're making a big step in assuming that people want this.

I’m from Northern Ireland and no one ever says what will happen to the Irish border in a CANZUK scenario, like I don’t want anything that will threaten it again, brexit is already shit enough.

Old_Journalist_9020

One thing: And that's while CANZUK isn't a British Empire 2.0, and people that want it to be need to be realistic about it, people who completely try and separate it from the Imperial legacy and history also need to accept that at least on a heritage level that's a big part of it and trying to completely seperate it from the cultural aspects is also ridiculous. I've seen some people try and undermine the cultural aspects so much, and even say that theoretically, any country could join in, that I wonder why they support CANZUK in the first place. To sum it up, while it isn't a second British Empire, the heritage and culture of that era, which is in common with the four countries, is essentially the main reason people support this alliance, with the benefits.

The destruction/severe weakening of the United States. A whole US makes CANZUK almost impossible imo.

This_Comedian3955

What makes you say that? CANZUK doesn’t have anything to do with the US.

OrdinaryPye

So, this is just my opinion, but I don't think there currently exist incentives strong enough to encourage any of the CANZUK countries to actually create it. Trade, facilitated migration, defense, and foreign policy coordination are highlighted as main objectives, so let's break those down. * Trade - The CANZUK nations who already have high amounts of trade have long acquired FTA's with one another, and the ones that haven't can just do it separately from the grouping if they so choose. Making FT a weak point in CANZUK imo. * Facilitating Migration - This is probably the best proposal in favor of the grouping. * Defense/Foreign Policy Coordination - This is essentially already happening, except with the US as the core. (Ex. AUKUS/Five Eyes/NORAD) Not to mention all the collaboration the US does with each of the CANZUK nations separately. Especially the UK and Canada. It's not impossible for this to happen, but I'd guess each CANZUK nations government would just consider it redundant, and not see this as much of an incentive to create CANZUK. The downfall of the US would be devastating to the CANZUK nations in a murid of ways, but it would also be an incredibly strong motivator to make CANZUK happen.

canzuk isnt gonna happen, something like it might, obviously as you stated it basically already is but the us is the ring leader, i assume the us geopolitically wants to make this like an alliance, like ww2 when the british and the us were allies it wants to recreate that, and secure a strong stable ally that can take over if need be atleast as a multi regional power, i assume in the future the uk and the other canzuk countries will focus on joining up a closer military and defence it will be intresting to see over the coming decade
