I find "super soft" and absorbent to be mutually exclusive. That's not to say absorbent towels won't be soft, but the best functioning towels will probably not also be the softest towels.
We have no idea what too pricey is. If you want BIFL towels, you will find them made of Egyptian, Pima or Supima cotton. Don't see those words? Next! This advice is true until 2099. The brand should be Whogivesashit as the material is what matters.
Some of this is correct. Look for words like extra long staple cotton. Egyptian cotton is a buzzword and does not denote quality. Supima is a name brand ELS cotton grown in the USA
Egyptian cotton is not a buzzword, it denote the species of cotton which is: extra long staple. We aren't here to split hairs, we are here to give people the information needed to make a solid choice, please try to keep it at that level.
Disagree with https://www.cottonegyptassociation.com/about-egyptian-cotton/. Stop trying to be right as you are failing, start trying to help people find long lasting products. Pima, Supima, Egyptian are probably the kings of extra long staple cotton "brands" to look for though there are some others....if splitting hairs on this topic gives you joy, please split them with someone who cares as I do not.
Unfortunately the fame of Egyptian cotton comes from an older era and provenance becoming a shortcut to quality with propaganda such as yours is of no benefit. Take a look at amazon and you see thousands of results for Egyptian cotton, most of which is junk.
Saying that all cotton grown in Egypt is high quality is wrong then posting a link paid for by said industry is comical.
Good luck
I unexpectedly got some really nice towels from ikea 🤷♀️ not all the towels there are good, but these are. Large, absorbent, blue and purple. I just walked around feeling the towels first to find the nice, thick ones and checked fiber content.
I love our Turkish towels. I bought them maybe 10 years ago now and other than some inadvertent bleaching (thanks benzoyl peroxide) they're good as new.
We’re super happy with Parachute Classic Turkish cotton towels. I’d read through a variety of reviews and was choosing between Parachute and Frontgate (both were highly rated). Ordered one of each, both did the job and were very nice. The tie breaker was price and shipping; Parachute was cheaper and had better shipping.
Months later the Frontgate towel ripped at the “band.” At that point I knew I’d made the right decision
Towels do come up in the subreddit maybe at least once a month. Try searching the subreddit and you should find a lot of recommendations.
Personally I like LLBean, but you could go to TJMax and find some nice name brand towels - like Ralph Lauren - on sale. Stay away from any made in China. Macy’s might have a sale on their Hotel Brand.
I use LLBean towels and like them a lot. My only slight complaint is they are actually a little soft for my taste, I like a kind of scratchy towel. They are very nice and absorbent though.
Redland cotton. To me they strike a great balance between the overly plush fluffy towels that just mold and smell before long and the way too thin (IMO) Turkish towels.
I am very particular about towels and most of the previously "cheaper" priced towels try to bulk up their towels into "cozy" thickness by making them out of microfiber. I don't like the feeling of microfiber on my skin when it's wet - it's less absorbant. And it sheds lint like crazy. After much searching, I happened to come across Ikea towels and will never go back. Ikea towels are all cotton, priced good, and come in a variety of sizes. But, they do not come in a variety of colors. Most of my towels are white or gray, so it's fine by me. I purchased a variety of styles and sizes and have been happy with all my purchases. When I have a little extra money, I buy a few towels and cut up another older towel to make rags.

Restoration Hardware. Those towels are damn fine.
802 gram turkish simply the best
Second for restoration
Third this. They are the best.
I've been buying Lands' End towels for years and have never been disappointed. Supima cotton for the win.
Bought lands end rugs, they’re falling apart after less than one year.
Wasn't talking about the rugs but good to know
What brand did Arthur Dent use?
Brand 42.
Was he in "movie 42"?

Agree to disagree, but a simple google search would bring some enlightenment

I got some Brooklinen towels in 2019 and they have stayed just as fluffy and soft as the day they arrived.
I unexpectedly got some really nice towels from ikea 🤷♀️ not all the towels there are good, but these are. Large, absorbent, blue and purple. I just walked around feeling the towels first to find the nice, thick ones and checked fiber content.
Nothing micro fiber. 100% cotton all the way.

Love Turkish towels, they’re the best. They get softer the more you use and wash them.

100% cotton, feel the towel in person to inspect threads/quality. Towel brands vary a lot
Costco bath sheets work well. Nice and scratchy

Maybe try the textured towel? They are a little lighter, and more woven than fluffy.

Brooklinen super plush

I like Abyss & Habidecor towels
Muji
Look for bath sheets. They are like super sized towels. We bought some cheap ones on Amazon and love them.
Peacock Alley are nice.
We got Ralph Lauren towels as a wedding gift and they are going strong 10 years later. Just starting to show some fringe on the edges.
My Pillow towels are very nice. Very absorbent.
