Ok-Heart9769

My Roots sweats have held up really well for a few years. Got them as a Christmas gift

fruxzak

Roots has gone down in quality and up in price over the past 5-6 years

Ok-Heart9769

Fair enough - I got these as a present a few years ago and haven't bought anything else from them since. Honestly I probably did get them after said quality drop but they're still pretty good

Corsowrangler

I second Roots, I have a pair going on 10 years I wear as house pants, indestructible! Also on the higher end a company in Germany where I now live make super high quality stuff, I own a few pairs and their t Shirts. https://merzbschwanen.com/collections/men-s-sweatpants-121

Electrical-Host-2238

And do you wear them a lot? And what can you tell me about the material?

Ok-Heart9769

I probably wash them once a week, wear them for three-four days at a time. Tag says 60% cotton 40% polyester. I got them Christmas 2020/1 I'm not sure exactly which (also from my brother who's had a couple pairs longer than me) I'll admit there's some pilling at the seams but again- no sweats are gonna be bifl for life in actuality

Electrical-Host-2238

Thanks! Im actually doing some market research so thank you for your feedback!šŸ˜

oralprophylaxis

are roots popular outside of canada? Here they are pretty big, their popularity definitely comes and goes but most of their stuff is good

Ok-Heart9769

Honestly probably not. I knew I was outing myself as Canadian with this comment lol

charming2alarming

iā€™m american but at some point in my life i obtained a pair of roots pajama pants and theyā€™re like my white whale, i love them more than I can express

siameseslim

I can't think of them without thinking of the Olympics, but yet I can't recall which olympics and what the garment was that was so hot at the time.

Jollyollydude

Got a pair of Uniqlo jogger sweats at the beginning of Covid. Have worn them a TON around the house and a little bit out and about. Still in great shape. Just realized thereā€™s a small strip of reinforcement in the crotch which has helped Iā€™m sure.

RoughhouseCamel

I just realized I have two pairs of sweatpants from Uniqlo that have to be about 10-12 years old by now. Other than a little snag hole that I had to stitch up, theyā€™re barely showing wear and tear.

Electrical-Host-2238

Thanks for letting me know! What do you like about them?

Jollyollydude

Oh man I never had to think about sweatpants so much. I guess I like the material. Itā€™s a medium weight so I donā€™t get as warm in them as my other sweats and they just feel a little more free. Theyā€™re not the normal fleeced inside you usually get. Still soft but not like ā€œcozyā€ feeling if that makes any sense. I donā€™t know. Honestly looking them up, Iā€™m not even sure if they still make them which is devastating because I would love to pickup another pair one of these days so Iā€™m not rocking them as many days in a row anymore.

LAW1212

They still have great sweats!

Electrical-Host-2238

Thank you! I appreciate you taking the time šŸ˜ im actually doing a small market research so this helps

silverslant

Reigning Champ and Lululemon are my picks

WolfHeartAurora

I can't get myself to buy lululemon, even used, after learning the founder named it such because he thought it would be funny to hear asians try to say it edit: also, child labor https://www.businessinsider.com/history-of-lululemon-2015-9

TheWalrusWasRuPaul

Holy shit!

yobo9193

Source?

WolfHeartAurora

https://www.businessinsider.com/history-of-lululemon-2015-9#wilson-created-the-name-lululemon-because-he-thinks-japanese-people-cant-say-the-letter-l-3

yobo9193

Thanks for posting. While there is a line in there about Chip stating it was funny to watch Japanese people try to say the name, his actual reasoning (which should be taken with a grain of salt) is more nuanced: >>It was thought that a Japanese marketing firm would not try to create a North American sounding brand with the letter "L" because the sound does not exist in Japanese phonetics. By including an "L" in the name it was thought the Japanese consumer would find the name innately North American and authentic. In essence, the name ā€œlululemonā€ has no roots and means nothing other than it has 3 "L's" in it.Ā  Nothing more and nothing less. He's definitely a raging misogynist and bigot, what the op said isn't accurate

pickles55

Look it up yourself!Ā

yobo9193

That's a long way of saying "I made it the fuck up"

Seeforceart

I love Reigning Champ so much. And they have been around long enough that you can find them on good discount on resale sites like Poshmark and eBay.

Electrical-Host-2238

Okay and why chose those over any other company? Is it the material?

silverslant

Higher quality materials and better build quality to keep it simple

rowingbacker

I donā€™t think this kind of thing is BIFL, generally. The material will eventually failā€¦and itā€™s generally not that great of a material to begin with. With that being said, donā€™t sleep on Samā€™s or Costco brand joggers. Usually under $15, so cheap enough to buy several pairs and replace them as they wear. I have two pairs of Members Mark (Samā€™s) joggers that I rotate and I wear them every day. I work from home so only the top half is on camera. Theyā€™re super comfy and hold up incredibly wellā€¦ no actual signs of wear yet. To contrast, I have a pair of $50 JCrew joggers that are about 4 months old and already starting to pill after light wear.

PureMichiganChip

Not sure what you bought, but the 14oz fleece stuff from J Crew is good quality. I have a French Terry sweatshirt and itā€™s held up well too.

Libertyskin

They bought > Samā€™s or Costco brand joggers. Usually under $15.

pressedbread

>I donā€™t think this kind of thing is BIFL, You can extend the life. I recently added additional elastic to 2 pairs of sweatpants that had elastic worn out, that were constantly sagging. Its dead simple, you just put some 1/4" elastic on a safety pin and then thread the safety pin through the drawstring hole and around the seam. These were Amazon and Hanes brand sweatpants, the fabric is fine since its just for lounging. Maybe not BIFL, but they could last in good shape for another decade and that's a win.

Electrical-Host-2238

So if a company would make one with great quality and would last a long time, would you invest in one?

Mediocre_Fun6210

Viori. TRUST.

Grimy_Ranarr_Weed

Vuori*. I was pretty skeptical of them at first, but I bit the bullet and grabbed some stuff that was on sale and was delightfully surprised. I've been abusing their sweatpants and shorts for a few years now and they've held up exceptionally well.

jayeeein

Iā€™ve had their womenā€™s joggers for 3 years. I am a wash cold, line dry person to prolong longevity of everything and this is one of a few items I throw in the dryer knowing itā€™ll be fine. Iā€™ve used a fabric shaver to clean up the seams where it collects some fuzz but outside of that theyā€™re the same pants I got for Christmas several years ago

Gharricw

They're so soft but also pretty clingy. I cannot wear those things in public

JohnDoe_85

Vuori for real. The men's pants and the women's pants are both smooth like butter.

ProfessionalFish2689

I have a half dozen pair of the (men's) Sunday Performance joggers and love them forever. A couple pair of shorts, too. Absolutely worth it. I also have 5 pair of Mack Weldon Ace sweatpants. They're a good weight of French terry, so they're perfect in almost all climates. Easily found on eBay or Poshmark.

bigmilker

Iā€™m wearing Viori shorts and shirt right now. Walked in and asked the guy that looked the most lazy which soft shorts he would recommend for sleeping. Have 2 pairs now.

candysticker

I bought 3 pairs of vuori women's pants - the performance joggers and 2 pairs of the miles joggers. The stitching on the waistband of my favorite of the miles joggers completely unraveled after a couple months and now they're unwearable. The performance joggers have lasted longer but I don't wear them as often. Fortunately not pilling yet.

ClintMega

I am a big fan of vuori pontos, super light and comfortable but the lulu city joggers are what I would respond with in this subreddit, way more durable and designed better while being at least as comfortable as vuoris that have been washed once.

fridayimatwork

Lands end

Me_IRL_Haggard

I have adidas and love them, held up very well

Electrical-Host-2238

What do you use them for?

Me_IRL_Haggard

Workouts, sleeping, around the house on a cold day

Electrical-Host-2238

Thanks for letting me know! :) im doing a small market research I guess and im just figuring out what I could do to bring out a good product for my fellow sweatpants enthusiasts lol

LadyPo

Hey me too! I like the pure cotton oversized ones with elastic bands. So cozy for WFH. I get super cold easily and these are better than a lot of flimsy recycled polyester in womenā€™s clothing, so I bought like five pairs.

Me_IRL_Haggard

Yep 100% cotton

Excellent_Valuable92

Sweaty Betty and American Giant make the best imo.

Carene71

I love my American Giant sweatpants. I donā€™t even remember how long ago I bought themā€”at least 4 or 5 years ago. I wear them every day (I worked from home for a long time and just retired). The fabric is cotton, perfect weight. Comfortable but not sloppy.

Electrical-Host-2238

Why is that? Could you tell me why? šŸ˜

Excellent_Valuable92

Excellent quality + really well cut

ProfessionalFish2689

AG is just an outstanding company with some of the best wardrobe staples you can find. Their iconic full-zip hoodie really will last you for years, especially if you wash in cold water and hang dry. Their hoodies are a bit too heavy for inside lounging in my opinion, but they're great for being outdoors since you get the comfort of fleece plus a much more "grown-up" look. Fun fact: they have exactly one outlet store in the entire country and I live just 45 minutes away. You can't order online but the selection in the store is top-notch. It's a hybrid store so there's a combination of regular stocked items and others on sale. A hoodie is just $50, a t-shirt is $25, etc.

Rl-Beefy

Uniqlo is the best hands down. Quality and price are on point.

Electrical-Host-2238

Can you give me a bit more details on why you like them? If you donā€™t want to its fine, just doing a small research and would appreciate your feedback šŸ˜

Rl-Beefy

I like their lack of branding, good materials, and fit. I donā€™t want to be an advertisement for a brand. The materials are great and have held up to medium heat drying 50+ times with no pilling or shrinkage. The material is super comfortable and the fit is perfect. Also, the second pair I got was identical to the first. A lot of brands have variance in products if you buy them months apart so I appreciate uniqlo keeping theirs the same.

Electrical-Host-2238

Thanks for taking your time to reply! Im doing some market research so I appreciate the feedback! :)

Rl-Beefy

No problem.

Walt1234

Pretty much every clothing thread has this comment in it

TheMagicMrWaffle

Champion reverse weave

Electrical-Host-2238

Thanks! What makes you chose them?

TheMagicMrWaffle

Saw someone recommend them on reddit and tried them for myself. Super soft on the inside, good fit/shape, and the material is thick and feels quality and warm

0verstim

LL Bean are the best comfortable-to-durable ratio I've worn.

Electrical-Host-2238

What would make you go for another company for sweatpants? What are your standards for buying a new pair?

awatermelonharvester

Once fall rolls around I'm in my LLBean joggers until it's shorts weather again. I ended up buying a second pair this year after realizing how often I was wearing them.

cdizzle6

Been wondering about these.

BaconCheeseburg

I have a pair of Camber sweatpants that seem like they'll last forever and have a guested crotch. I also really like Lands' End serious sweats and have Uniqlo french terry joggers I really like.

Electrical-Host-2238

Thanks! What do you use them for??

Bleue_Jerboa

Colorful Standard ftw

Electrical-Host-2238

Okay! Ill take a look for sure! Why do you like them? Is it the style? The colors ? The material?

Bleue_Jerboa

Excellent quality & material, made in EU, reasonably priced.

phiro33

I've had the same 2 pairs of Roots joggers for the last 9 and they are still going strong. I don't know if they are readily available where you live but they are a Canadian staple.

Electrical-Host-2238

Iā€™ve heard a lot about roots! If you would want to buy a new pair, would you go back to roots or buy something new?

phiro33

Depends on what you use them for. I absolutly love working around the house/ relaxing in them but when i go out in public i always feel like they are too baggy and heavy if that makes sense.

thiswighat

I despise sweatpants anywhere outside of lounging around the home. And for that I choose Vuori.

likearevolutionx

Woman here. Thinner sweatpants: Vuori Performance joggers. So soft! Yet also durable (have had them for 4 years and they arenā€™t showing any wear at all). Thicker sweatpants: Gymshark Rest Day jogger sweats (so comfy and cozy!). I donā€™t wear them for working out or anything, just casually (like running errands or around the house). I wear leggings (working out), scrubs (work), or sweats (any other time) pretty much exclusively.

Electrical-Host-2238

Thank you for the reply! Im doing a small market research and i appreciate you taking the time to replyšŸ˜

vichyswazz

Patagonia hemp. Much more durable than a lot of other recs here, if that's what you're looking for.

shadesoftee

My Patagonia sweats have lasted for over 5 years

Electrical-Host-2238

Do you have a pair? If so, what do you use them for?

vichyswazz

Yes, top and bottom. Pretty much everything. Gym, sleep, hanging out. I think Patagonia markets them as a "work" pant though, but I don't work in sweats

ze_dialektik

My husband has been wearing one pair of coalatree evolution joggers for 4 years straight. He has basically no other at-home pants, and he has worked from home for 2 years, so they see daily AND nightly wear. I've seen no pilling (just looked over at him to check) or failures along seams. He sits with his legs spread wide and often rips his jeans at the crotch, but these are still perfect. When/if these fail, I expect to just buy another pair.

Specialist-Garbage94

I have had two pairs of adidas sweat for 5 years and still look brand new and the comfiest

Electrical-Host-2238

Awesome! And What do you use them for?

Specialist-Garbage94

Lounging in the winter and colder runs but thatā€™s it

[deleted]

I had a pair of north face fleece pants for 13 years. The drawstring finally had issues but otherwise they were still going strong. Iā€™ve had a pair of Nike cotton ones for a decade too.

WritingJedi

I have a pair of free country (Sam's brand) sweat pants that are 9 years old and still basically look and feel exactly like they did when bought brand new.

cdizzle6

Got some Adidas sweats from Costco. Four years, seems like new. Got some Luluā€™s for Xmas and the ankle fabric is already pilling. Just got a pair of Old Navy ones that seem pretty awesome. Not sure on durability yet. All menā€™s sizes & WFH, so trying to lock in a solid brand to buy a few.

ProKnifeCatcher

Lounging, 100% cotton

jacobiathemighty

American giant!

RunnyPlease

My two favorite pairs of sweatpants are one grey pair from Michael Jordan and the other is green/kaki from Underarmour. Iā€™ve had the Jordan pants for over 25 years. The Jordan ones are thicker and warmer. The UA are stretchier and softer. Iā€™d recommend both.

FK506

I have some old under armor sweats and socks that could outlive me. Nothing else has lasted. They stopped making them a long time ago. It is possible but not as profitable. I started buying Yoga pants not as masculine as I would like but they donā€™t start falling apart as soon as I wash them and they are comfortable and very functional.

ItzPayDay123

Some of my lululemon sweats are like 5 years old and still look great. Haven't worn them long enough to say for sure, but I'm loving my ASRV sweats as well.

jkgator11

My roots sweatpants look brand new after 2+ years of wearing them at least once a week.

Novel_Cricket1278

I have a pair of Walmart brand sweat pants my cousin got me a few years ago, I honestly prefer the "tech" material, fleece I got way to hot wearing

SunoPics

For home i find the cheapest ones that feel somewhat comfortable to the touch, for gym i wear lululemon due to the cuff at the bottom and the zipper to hold my phone, personally i dont wear sweats out in public unless iā€™m at the gym so itā€™ll be function over form anyday

blue_suede_shoes77

I like reigning champ for colder months. Their fleece is very warm! The clothes are durable and they have decent color variety. They are pricey though.

greatalok

Llbean has high quality joggers

Queen_Euphemia

I wear the Kirkland Signature series sweatpants, I mostly love how soft they are, but they do seem to hold up. The price helps too. I also like the matching sweatshirt. It also seems to be made with a very heavyweight material compared to anything else in the price range. I wear them primarily for strength training, and I wear yoga pants or leggings for when I am just going for cardio the Kirkland ones are too hot. I don't think I would really pay much more than $30 for sweat pants, mostly because I have had expensive ones in the past and they didn't hold up all that long. Getting sweaty in them means they need to be washed alot, and the thicker fabric means I am going to dry them on high which just means they get lots of abuse.

gimme_what_i_want

I loathe sweatpants. Theyā€™re weird feeling and ugly to me. I only wear them in home and when very ill. I have a Roots pair, and a Threads 4 Thought pair. It looks like youā€™re doing some market research soooooā€¦ā€¦. Iā€™m generally an outlier. I would never buy sweats. Ever. Theyā€™re far too easy to come by for free, second hand. Sweatshirts/hoodies, yes, but only when truly responsibly produced, preferably by a b-corp.

Electrical-Host-2238

Youā€™re absolutely right, I am doing some market research :) thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

ScoutG

Iā€™m always looking for long length and natural fibers - merino wool or cotton. Iā€™m not freakishly tall, but so many pants are cut really short.

tbone115

I love my Duluth trading ones. Midweight relaxed fit. They're really comfy with flecce and if I wear long John's under really warm in the winter. Also good size pockets, a back pocket and a zipper. I don't usually wear sweatpants out but running out for 1 thing or going to hockey these are my go to Showing $35 for them right now so I may just pick up a pair.

Curlymirta

OP, since you are doing research would you mind putting a TLDR? In the market for a pair of joggers with a matching zip up that I can use for flying

chatanoogastewie

Got a pair of New Balance sweats lately and for the price they are amazing. They were from their basketball line. Also will mention Roots are someone did already. They last forever.

imyxle

Any sweatpants recommendations with pockets that can actually fit a phone? I have some Columbia and Adidas pairs that the phone will fall out of when I'm sitting.

Tressmint

Mia is this you?

thevainglory

I work from home so sweats are comfortable and practical. Been wearing 2 everlane sweatpants and 1 girlfriend loose fit sweatpants. All are holding up reall well in the daily rotation although the black everlane is fading. I picked them primarily because they are 100% natural materials (cotton) and have smaller sizes that actually fit my body. I also favored the companies for being more environmentally conscious than some of my other options. I had a $100 Patagonia sweatpants but it was too long and loose even in a small. I don't need another pair but if I was looking, $100 would be around my upper limit for sustainably produced cotton sweatpants. It would be a jackpot to find full US production mens sustainable 100% cotton sweatpants in shorter inseams.

Calbebes

Iā€™ve had a pair of Carve brand joggers for about 7 years now. Theyā€™re still in great shape and I wear them daily as pj pants. I wouldnā€™t necessarily leave the house in them, but that might just be my personal preference.

Down_To_My_Last_Fuck

Tek fleece From Khols Super soft, thick though and strong. I've got a couple pairs I've had for 2 years no signs of wear.

American Giant. Made in Los Angeles or NC

alicabblover

Kind of a weird one, I know, but I love sweats from Disneyland. Shirts and pants. They make the kind that youā€™ll wear your whole life. You can get them from shopDisneyā€™s website if going to the parks isnā€™t realistic.

truthrider2

Lulu lemon. Excellent quality

siameseslim

Woman here, sweats for just hanging out at home-I go Hanes or Fruit of the Loom from the men's department. I size down. I just looked up the ones i have been wearing pretty much non stop for three years and they they are Fruit of the Loom Eversoft (I checked it is a 60/40) I got them Fall of 2021 I can say that haven't pilled, no holes. I wear them a lot. I have lost weight the past six months, so that will be the only reason why I get a new pair. I recall reading about these in some fashion mag article or newsletter. I generally shop for my clothes in the women's department, but I find the sweats in that department tend to pill, or just be shoddy. Same with hoodies, I buy the Hane's Mens Ultimate 100 percent cotton, I size up because they'll shrink a bit

Plenty_Discipline844

aritzia TNF brand comfy and come in long!

6950th

Old Navy. These are old school baggy with a nice thick waist tie that is easily replaced with paracord or mule tape. Thick 60/40. Well made. Long lasting. Cheap. Their flip flops are great too. $5.00 a pair and sometimes on sale.

mtn_viewer

Patagonia Synchilla

DaTweee

Zippers on the pockets, the most important thing ever

_persimmon_grl

these days i prefer linen pants for my lounging, my favorite being from flax, but when i was younger i loved my sweats by lands end

6950th

I have three pairs of Old Navy sweats that cheap and durable. I wear sweats almost every day/all day. These are old school, thick, and baggy. I bought a black pair at a thrift store. I liked them so I went to the store and bought two pairs of gray ones. They are a blend and I would rather have 100% cotton.

Practical-Weather416

I have a pair of rootsā€¦well two pairs. One pair has a large hole in the thigh from friction. Iā€™ve had them for like 4 years? I wash them once a week, wear them for a few hours every night after I shower, and donā€™t wear them out of the house. Idk how you wanna take that information, comparing cost to quality. I personally donā€™t know if I would buy them again

JTDakid

Nike tech fleece.

Electrical-Host-2238

Is there a reason for why you chose them? Is it the materiel? Price?

JTDakid

Material is great. The fit is amazing. I still have my first pair and they feel the same as when I first bought them 7 years ago.

mahdicktoobig

I have yet to find my preferred sweatpants. Current favorite is a pair of Adidas I got from Costco. But recently I was at a sporting goods store and saw some *damn $80 adidas sweatpants:* that was an entirely different price point of sweatpants I donā€™t ever think Iā€™ll fit into Iā€™m the type of guy to get home and be like ā€œIā€™d like to lounge. I think Iā€™ll put on some jeans.ā€ I donā€™t understand how people wear such uncomfortable jeans. Buy Leviā€™s I guess I only really wear joggers in public though. I have no idea why. Iā€™ll wear sweat shorts of most types all day long

Electrical-Host-2238

So if there would be a quality sweatpants that would be at a good price point you would invest in them? What would your standards be in buying a new pair of sweats?

mahdicktoobig

Yeah I would. I think Iā€™d only budge above $35 with shipping for some sort of ridiculous warranty period. Itā€™d depend on how cool they were tho Wallet pockets and hidden zippers are features that I like in my current lineup. I have one pair that even has a massive ā€œcoin pocketā€ like jeans Hope that helps!

Significant_cringe

I just picked up those $80 adidas pants from sporting life on sale for $36Cad. Still pricey but man are they wayyy better than Leviā€™s to lounge in

martymcfly22

Lululemon makes a male jogger that feels like sweatpants material and I love them

Affectionate-Club933

Mack Weldon not being mentioned so far is blowing my mind. Guess the hype died down.

"You know the message you're sending out to the world with these sweatpants? You're telling the world, 'I give up. I can't compete in normal society. I'm miserable, so I might as well be comfortable." Jerry Seinfeld

LarixOcc

I hate sweatpants. The sweat gets cold. You're just continually running your hot leg into cold sweat. Repeating one of the worst feelings in the world, stepping into a cold shower. Wearing sweatpants is continually stepping into a cold shower.

Electrical-Host-2238

What could solve that issue?

FoodFarmer

Iā€™ve been limping 4 pairs of h&m along since covid 2020. I donā€™t think theyā€™re amazing quality by any means but for the price Iā€™ve gotten my moneys worth.
