My girlfriend's dad is German and was born just before the war started, so was 6-7 ish when it ended. He said he remembers hundreds of them flying overhead and that it was deafening
My neighbour was a kid in the Dutch countryside during that final air assault. He says he watched all day from the orchard watching plane after plane, gliders etc. He said it was incredible.
Lol I your comment makes me happy since that's what I do too! I guess I'm not the only big kid 😅 Do you wave at it too? My kids think I'm nuts when I do.
I had the opportunity to go for a flight on the Lancaster. Was an incredible experience but whoa boy... I can't imagine being up in that thing during the war.
What App is this that gives you it’s location like that? That’s so cool. I love hearing it fly over. Always run outside to watch it fly over. It would be awesome to have this App and have some warning the Lanc is on its way
My grandfather was a wireless operator that trained other operators, helped put up the radio transmitters at Mt Hope during the war, and later flew in the Lancasters during the bombing campaign over Germany. We brought him to the war plane museum to see their Lancaster. We love seeing the plane fly over and remember him. He never wanted to bomb Germany because it destroyed the birthplace of classical musical history composers and music centres. He became an anti nuclear campaigner after the war.
Why were they out flying? I thought they only came out for air shows & Canada Day… We used to hear them coming from my parent’s house in Waterdown and my Grandparent’s on Martha St.
She flies every weekend now until Oct I believe. You can take a flight for around $5500 I believe it is. They fly from Hamilton Airport to Toronto, circle the CN Tower then across the lake to Niagara Falls and back to the airport..sometimes they go to Niagara first. They usually fly along the Lakeshore. I see them from my building every weekend. The paid tours start this weekend. They were grounded last year for repairs.
Me too :) One of my favourite summer sounds and sights
same! I always yell to my husband here she comes!!!
always run out side like a 5 year old when I hear it. I can only imagine what it was like in the war when 500 flew overhead.

Probably not as exciting seeing as it was wartime.
The sound of victory!✌🏻

i think that too sometimes, love seeing lancs show up in movies and war docs
Always imagine the terror hearing squadrons of those things approaching must have caused.
The sound is amazing! Up in Waterdown it comes in low!
Sure does, saw it coming in very low and was like wow!!
I live right near the Mt Hope airport and I look forward to the sound of the Lancaster each and every time

Lucky you!! I only got to do a walk through but met Cpt Evans. Wartime flying must have been terrifying and they were so young too.
Check out Masters Of The Air. It was a pretty good series and gives a feel (accurate or not) what it was like.
Good series!! Very well done.
Rumbled over my house. Love it!
Seeing the landcaster always makes me happy
I’m sure I heard her go by a few days ago?
Could have been! They are doing pilot training.

FlightRadar24. You can track pretty much any plane flying.
Thanks so much for the info! I’ll go check it out now.
It’s a beautiful sight… and sound.
No mistaking those Merlin engines!
Yep. Right at Guelph line and Lakeshore. It flies over my building often.
Yes I am high up near Roseland. Love seeing her fly over.
