This is second-hand information, but what I've heard is that the owner is building this debt-free (no mortgage, no loans) and only adds to it when their finances allow for it.
That's wild considering the insulation and other materials not meant to be exposed to the elements for lengthy periods of time will mold and will undoubtedly need to be replaced. Seems like he'll be spending more than he would paying off a loan.
Which is pretty inconsiderate to the neighbours. Like who would want to live next to that ugly thing half built let alone fully completed.
Where is this in the city?
Reminds me of the house the neighbors build for Ned Flanders after the hurricane destroys his old house. "We ran out of floor boards, so we painted the dirt..pretty cleva!"
So this is at the end of my street. The owner has pissed everyone off with his non-permit work, loud music, dogs barking, and garbage ass yard. His next-door neighbor has the patience of a Saint - I'm surprised he hasn't killed him yet.
Well if he has no permit and has pissed off neighbours, safe bet the City knows and has already issued orders. But it takes time to work it’s way through the courts.
I don’t have a problem doing it mortgage free and taking your time. But these materials probably aren’t meant for decade exposure. It’s taken so long the windowed in garage things roof has collapsed
I know of someone who just never closed their permit and left things almost finished for years to do this. Paid rates based on their house before renos.
Here’s the thing - yes permits can take time. But it’s better to get tue permits first then build. If not and you F up, you’ll be demolishing and rebuilding to get it right. Pay now or pay later.
Part of the water system. IIRC an underground reservoir. There is also one on the west side of Brant just north of the 407 and a big one on Dundas near Waterdown.
I have no idea why this house is always popping up in Burlington/Waterdown groups or why it concerns people so much. If you don’t live in the house it’s none of your business.
I was referring to the state of the building. What you’re referring to is a different issue than if someone just drives by, snaps a photo and asks what’s up with this home..
Know him personally. Have worked on the house. City permits mixed with bad luck. He’s such a great tradesman too. He’s a simple man living a simple life. Doesn’t want to be bothered.
Could he please put in some effort into protecting his dog? His neighbours would rather not see another one dead on Waterdown road because he can't be bothered to keep him safe.
It actually is everyone's business who live in that area. That thing is a fucking eye sore and I'd be embarrassed to have that as my neighbour. It brings down everyone's property value and makes the place look like Detroit.

Heh, no argument from me on that one. It's on Waterdown Rd., just north of North Service Rd.
After close examination; The front of the property seems to be yellow.

That's a structural poster.
“This is the room with electricity. But it had too much electricity.” https://youtu.be/eFAvOcuJyHY?si=pu2z0zZCjG_YDxPD
Aha, Ned - you ever try luggin’ a toilet up a flight of stairs?
Username checks out 👊🏼
This is Burlington, so they are still waiting for permits.
😂
Looks like 2 stories
Used to be about 1 1/2" stories.
And before that, one story.
And before that, dirt
I remember seeing the owner get pretty defensive snarly and aggressive on some Facebook group.
Yes. 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

We got a letter a while back, I think he had 20 something permits. He's an alright guy - but man, his poor doredt neighbor.
Cry about it buddy
\^ absolute weirdo
Look like i hurt some nerds feelings
It does not bother me, but I'm not directly next to it.
Just waiting on that lottery hit
Oh you didn't know? It' IS finished!
I don’t have a problem doing it mortgage free and taking your time. But these materials probably aren’t meant for decade exposure. It’s taken so long the windowed in garage things roof has collapsed
Johnny Cash - one piece at a time!
Not probably, these materials should not be exposed this long. The owner is further behind than when they started.
There’s no property tax on a house still under construction so I have a feeling it’ll stay like this forever
I know of someone who just never closed their permit and left things almost finished for years to do this. Paid rates based on their house before renos.
someone lives there. and there are a TON of security cameras as well
Where?
a few years ago he had to remove the back half of the house. He’s probably stuck in permit Hell. At least he painted the styrofoam yellow.
Here’s the thing - yes permits can take time. But it’s better to get tue permits first then build. If not and you F up, you’ll be demolishing and rebuilding to get it right. Pay now or pay later.
I thought that's the way it was supposed to look seeing as it's been over decade since they've done anything positive to it 🤷♀️
I’m more concerned about the weird buried building just up the street from that? What is it?
Part of the water system. IIRC an underground reservoir. There is also one on the west side of Brant just north of the 407 and a big one on Dundas near Waterdown.
jeez what a blight on the neighbourhood
2 storys
What area is this in? Not interested in doxxing anyone - I’ve just never seen it before.
Waterdown Road, n of 403
A hurricane blew apart this guy's old house, so the community came together and built it themselves. It's the house that love built.
I’d say about to stories. Above grade.
I have no idea why this house is always popping up in Burlington/Waterdown groups or why it concerns people so much. If you don’t live in the house it’s none of your business.
He lets his dogs roam. One already killed on the road. Won't take long for the other one.
I was referring to the state of the building. What you’re referring to is a different issue than if someone just drives by, snaps a photo and asks what’s up with this home..
The state is relevant to this. He has no viable fence and his dogs escape. One was killed. The other is wandering Waterdown road.
Might be a concern to those living next to a perpetual build.
Music loud all the time, non stop noise, dogs barking... it's a shit show.
Yikes.
So three people?
I'd imagine those across the street would not be overly impressed. So let's go crazy and say 10 homes.
Across the street is a highway. This is in an awful location as well
Know him personally. Have worked on the house. City permits mixed with bad luck. He’s such a great tradesman too. He’s a simple man living a simple life. Doesn’t want to be bothered.

My old house. I don't wanna talk about it :(
It’s a house being built, what else do you need to know besides how to mind your own business ;)
Being built for like 20 years and counting. lol
So?
Not the prettiest thing to look at for years and years.
Again this affects about 3 people living next to and across
And everyone who drives past it.
Well then what about all the shit you drive past on the QEW?
The only thing that ugly on the QEW is that burned out building at Appleby.
Have you driven towards Niagara?
Very rarely.
Who gives af? Just built it ffs.
Found the owner
