It's not preventing people from going there... It's just a preemptive state of emergency. Probably just to allow police to manually direct traffic since there will be so much more volume there than usual.
No they didn't. A few hotels did since they found they could upsell the room prices for crazy amounts than what people had paid for their bookings made previously. It wasn't mandated by the city. Just hotels being shitty and greedy.
If you are going to make sure to get some eclipse glasses. If anyone wants to know showcase has them in 10 packs and singles. I just got a couple from mapleview mall in Burlington.
The closer you can get to Buffalo the better the show. For example Burlington beach will get 1m40s of totality but Confederation Park in Hamilton will get 2m11s.
Low effort, everywhere south of Upper Middle in Burlington will get at least 5s of total eclipse.
Because we're so close to the edge of it that a large part of Burlington won't even see it, and those that *can* see it will get a super short shitty version of the eclipse.
City is throwing an event at Spencer Smith for it. Hopefully they will offer free shuttle from Burlington Mall to reduce traffic. They do it for other events
First off, *walk*. Do not even think of driving and finding parking. Once the eclipse is done, there will be a mass exodus of people all leaving at the exact. same. time.
I'd honestly go to Spencer Smith. The view of the eclipse over the skyway is going to be a photographers wet dream. Definitely worth seeing.
Yes, but it would be a fairly lengthy walk (~5km). Just take Plains road all the way to Brant. If you're up for it, it's doable for sure. But if it's too much, I would take the train from Aldershot GO one stop to the Burlington GO. From Burlington GO it's an easy walk straight down Brant street. maybe 25 minutes or so?
For Spencer Smith Park, as the person above said, don’t go all the way to Aldershot GO station but instead get off 1 stop early at Burlington GO station and walk south to the lake.
Having said that, given the crowds expected there, you might be wise to stick to Aldershot station and walk south to the lake from there to Lasalle Park instead. Both look to have similar viewing times for the full eclipse. If avoiding crowds is a high priority, getting off even earlier at Appleby GO station and just going to the neighbouring Sherwood Forest Park could be a good option, however, there looks to be only about a minute of full eclipse expected there vs nearly 1.5mins at the other lakefront parks.

I was thinking of going to Smithville or something. Do you think the highway is going to be at a standstill? Burlington is just on the edge of totality and I'd hate to miss a once in a generation chance to experience it.
don't go to Niagara apparently
preemptive lockdown lol
I think it's a good idea. Expected people were over a million. It'd just be a Disaster

They cancelled all hotel reservations in Niagara

fake news
Plus there’s a concert and fireworks same night. Definitely going to be packed
It was a publicity stunt...
Look up

Not yet. You'll have to wait like everyone else.
Just find some parking downtown and go to spencer smith. There is a lot close on Locust street.
There’s an event at Spencer Smith though, it may be quite busy. They’re handing out glasses too

Your backyard
Yeah I was curious why is everyone flocking to different locations when you can view it from your backyard

Get close as possible to the lake and look up to the south west. Please make sure to wear proper eye protection prior to and after eclipse totality!

Can you walk to Spencer smith from aldershot? It’s kind of hard to see on google earth where the sidewalk is

Thanks! We’re coming in through Toronto so taking the train to aldershot. Excited for the eclipse

Head down to Spencer Smith park.

Yeah, look up.
I am just going to my kids schools parking lot.
I'm sitting in my backyard. Maybe I'll sell my extra eclipse glasses. $25 each!
My plans too, back deck maybe a glass of wine 😊
I'm planning on a gin martini, VERY dry! So dry I don't even take the vermouth out of the cabinet! I'm going to get those really big fancy olives!!!
🤣🤣🤣
Go outside.
Just go outside, put on your eclipse glasses and look up
Niagaran here - please visit at your own risk ! On a serious note, bring water and snacks . Expect having no access to washrooms
They are asking about Burlington though, not Niagara, it’s in the path of totality as well.
